Using Revel on iPad while offline

I'm nearing the end of my 30 day trial of Revel, and, after uploading around 25,000 images I am delighted with the results. it is very liberating to be able to view, and particularly to edit, any of these images on iPhone and iPad. Many thanks to the developers for a truly useful set of capabilities.
At this stage I would be grateful for some clarification on how best to use Revel when disconnected from the internet:
When travelling, I like to load new camera images to my iPad for viewing and temporary storage. Can I add these images to Revel from the camera roll, using the iPad app, but while disconnected from the net?
Assuming this is OK, can I then safely delete the images from the camera roll (to save memory), and be confident that the Revel app will store copies on the iPad until such time as I am back online, and can upload them to the cload?
I'd appreciate any guidance on the best "offline" workflow...

Hello,
Thank you for the positive response for Adobe Revel. We do hope you enjoy using Revel. To download your images to the camera roll from the Ipad you do need to be connected. This is because Revel downloads the full resolution of the image from the cloud to the camera roll.
When you upload images for the first time in Revel on iOS and MAC we create Thumbnails, Loupe previews (loupe is the view when you tap an image to view it larger) and cache them. We also cache the originals. The images are stored in the cloud.
When you use Revel on iOS and MAC and open a library for the first time we cache the thumbnails for the image thumbnails you are viewing. We download loupe previews and originals for editing on demand and only cache them as you view them. On MAC we take an additional step and cache the originals for the library. (This original downloading is not done on iOS)
You can view your images offline but unless you view each image while "online" you will see a lower resolution thumbnail image. When you view a single image in loupe view it will download the full resolution thumbnail.
Here is an example of what I did before. I have an album of car images. When I view a few of the images I do see the full resolution. I then turned off my wifi on the ipad. I went back to Revel and viewed the next image in my album. It did show but it was a little bit blurry. This is because Revel can not connect to the cloud and download the full resolution image. I can still see a the cached thumbnail. I turned the wifi back on and had to go back to the main library and then clicked on the image that I saw that was blurry. Now with the WIFI turned on Revel downloads the full resolution of the image and is cached for offline viewing. Granted it is always best to be connected, but yes you can view your images offline but may be blurry. I hope that helps answer your question regarding the viewing of images offline.
I would suggest to make a back up of your images to your computer or external hard drive if you wish before deleting them since you have so many images.
Let me know if you have any other questions
Thanks
Scott

  • Can I use my new IPad while it is charging

Can I use my New IPad while it is charging?

You can use the iPad while it's charging, however, it will take longer to fully charge.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • How do I load a website folder onto the ipad of offline use?

I have a website that I want to load onto the ipad for viewing without interntet.  I have the entire 1000+ page site and images on my laptop's desktop and I can view it there. How do I put it on the iPad and use it there?
    Thnaks for the help.

I have been doing  some research on this matter and thought I would share the result of my experiences - the overall aim is to have multi-page websites locally viewable on my iPad with navigation using normal hyperlinks
There are numerous suggestions on the web many of which diod not give me what I wanted - my solutions below work for me but may not suit everyone
    Case 1 - downloading website from a web-accessible location
I use the iPad app Offline Pages to capture websites - this app works well for this style of website - remember to set the download links to download all that you require - "Intelligent" is good
In theory you can use the app to download websites from the desktop but I haven't been able to get that working routinely
Case 2 - multi-page website on desktop that DOES NOT use relative addressing
You need to process all the links so that it contains well behaved relative addressing
For this I use the Mac app WebCopier which gives good results - this requires that the website is accessible via the web but that can be local to your desktop (see below)
Once I have a processed website then I proceed as below
Case 3 - multi-page website on desktop that DOES  use relative addressing
Firstly make sure that you have installed the Offline Pages Bookmarklet in your desktop browser (use the gearwheel settings icon top right in Offline Pages)
Secondly, turn on websharing in the desktop's System Prefs>Sharing panel - this gives me an address for the computer's website and a link "Open Computer Website Folder..." - use this link to navigate to this location on your desktp computer and now move the source (processed if required) website until it is in the computer's website folder structure
Thirdly, select the starting point of the source website (usually an index.html file) and click on the Save to Offline Pages Bookmarklet
Lastly, go to the iPad and wait until the inbox is updated (the inbox at top left shows a number and spinning wheel while it is downloading) - if only 1 page is downloaded by Offline Pages then display that page and click the Page Info icon (square with tick at top right) - change Download Links to "Intelligent" or whatever you require and then click  "Update Now" - this should then report the number of pages that are in the downloaded website.
    Enjoy !!

  • How can I use the Netflix app on my iPad while traveling outside the US?

Is there any way to use the Netflix app on my iPad while traveling out of the country? I am curently in Russia. I downloaded software to mask my IP address on my laptop. Is this possible for the iPad?

There's no way to mask or hide an IP address on an iPad that I am aware of. As to using Netflix from outside of your country, ask Netflix about that.
    Regards.

  • HT200028 i want to use my Apple TV while camping using my hot spot on my iPad as my wireless network.

I currently have my Apple TV set up using my wireless network in my home.  I plan to use the Apple TV while camping and thinking I should be able to use my Hot Spot on my iPad to display on my TV while camping.  What I'm not finding is how to find my network on my iPad?  What do I need to do to assign my Hot Spot as a network?  Can this be done or do I need a remote router?

So when I connect my ATV to my TV, I turn on my hot spot and go to Netflix.  I can get Netflix on my iPad for streaming movies, but it won't share with my TV.  The TV is telling me it doesn't recognize my network.  When I go to settings, general and network on the TV screen, I'm asked to select a network.  If I select other, I don't know what network to use?  Does the iPad have a network assigned to it?  If so, how do I access?

  • How do I move files in iCloud while using my mini iPad?

I just recently got an iPad mini with retina display.  This is my first iPad.  There are many things that are new to me.
At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how to move or delete files in iCloud Drive while using my mini iPad.  As I understand it, the only way to look at, organize or move files in the iCloud drive is to login to iCloud via a browser other than installing a separate specific application that lets me do that.  However, I have found that even if I login to the iCloud drive using a browser, I still can't move or delete files while using the mini iPad although I can view the file list and folder list, create file folders, and use files for which I already have an application installed.
How do I get around this so that I can do those things?  Do I really have to get a separate application to do that?  If so, what's a good one to use?

Hi Files get sent to iCloud when you backup this happens Automatically When you charge your iPad Since ios 7 Almost everything can be done over your WiFi Software updates  apps& data can all be synced over WiFi We have  2 iPhones & 3 iPads & have not used PC for over a year. For Apple Devices. Go to ibooks download iPad user guide its Free. Cheers Brian

  • Im traveling to New York in a few months and considering buying the new iPad while im there. Can anyone give me advice on what i need to buy while im there so as to be able to use to use it back here in the UK?? Any advice is much appreciated.

    Mark th

Buy the "AT&T" model iPad, not the Verizon one (which does not support SIM cards used most everywhere in the world).  The ATT model comes with a SIM card, but you can then get one from a UK provider.  Be sure it's a "microSIM" card, not the larger kind when back in the UK.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • I'm wondering how to passcode specific apps, like email, while allowing use of other iPad apps,,, any suggestions?, I'm wondering how to passcode specific apps, like email, while allowing use of other iPad apps,,, any suggestions?

I'd like to password protect my email while allowing other use on my iPad, for business. Any ideas?

right now, there are none.  the device was built more or less on a one user model.  you can either passcode the whole thing, or not.  you can set restrictions on certain things.  and for email, simply do not use the email app, but rather use web mail, where you have to log on each time you want to use it.
There are a fair number of folks with the same problem as you, but as of now, there is no easy answer.

  • Am i able to charge my ipad (while in use) on board SQ economy class?

Am i able to charge my ipad (while in use) on board SQ economy class? Do I have to buy an adapter or a different travel plug? As i will be departing Singapore for London, i hope i can use my Ipad throughout the journey.

That would be a question for the Airline.   Whether or not they offer outlets in Economy Class.  And if They do, what type of connection it is.
Contact the Airline to find out if they have outlets in economy.  As long as the IPads Charger can plug into them, you should be able to charge it just fine.
If they offer USB ports only, you'll need to ask them if their ports offer enough power to charge an iPad.

  • Is it okay to use the iPad while it is charging? Will it affect the battery?

My iPad battery sometimes runs low and I plug it in and continue to use it while charging. Is this safe for the battery to do so?

Yes it is safe to do so. I am using my iPad while it is charging right now. When the charge is complete, it will quit charging on its own. You will not hurt the battery.

  • Can i use my ipad while it is charging?

Cna I use the ipad while it is plugged in and charging?

Yes, but that will slow down the charging since you are using energy at the same time.
