Using RMAN to create single instance standby from 2 node rac
Any advice on the RMAN command to take a non catalog full rman backup from a two node 11gr2 rac node and use it to create the STANDBY single instance.
The RAC two node instance is in ASM (Linux)
The Physical Standby is Normal File System (Linux)
The command that I get from Metalink suggests:
rman target sys/passwd@primary catalog RMAN/RMAN@RMAN auxiliary sys/passwd
RMAN> run {
allocate auxiliary channel C1 device type disk;
duplicate target database for standby;
When I took the rman backup I did not use catalog. Please suggest how to accomplish the same task without catalog. Thanks

Using RMAN for creating a Dataguard Standby db.
Hello,
I have two 11.2.0.1.0 oracle instances running on two cloned Red Hat Enterprise Linux (rhel98 and rhel99). Linux version:
Linux rhel99 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed May 25 17:46:45 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/LinuxI am trying to perform a "duplicate target database for standby" as part of the list of steps to get a Physical Standby located at the rhel99 server with DB_UNIQUE_NAME ORCL99. But I am missing something because it keeps failing with this error:
RMAN-05556: not all datafiles have backups that can be recovered to SCN 2818790
RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 5 found to restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 1 found to restoreI double checked the directory structure on primary (rhel98) and standby (rhel99), and it's the same. As control file is restored during the duplicate process I cannot perform the catalog start with, so the backups were placed on the same locations at rhel98 and 99.
According to that error message it is not finding any of the datafile backups.

Edited by: martin.morono on May 29, 2013 8:56 PMThanks Hemant but the issue is the same with sequence 6 or 22. I posted the RMAN log from an old duplicate I ran yesterday using sequence 6, but as you can see below the error is not changing with setting "until sequence 22"
Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Your database datafile backups are as of Checkpoint SCN 3100062 which is higher than the archivelogs (and certainly higher than SEQ#6).
Possibly SEQUENCE#22 will cover the database checkpoint SCN. Therefore, the minimum UNTIL SEQUENCE would be 23 or higher.

Hi,
Oracle Version:11.2.0.1
Operating system:Linux
Here i am planing to create single instance standby for my 2-node RAC database. Here i am creating my single instance standby database on 1-node of my 2-node RAC DB.
1.) Do i need to configure any separate listener for my single instance standby in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin in ORACLE user or need to change in Grid user login.
2.) Below is the error when i am duplicating my primary 2-Node RAC to single instance DB. And it is shutting down my auxiliary instance.

RMAN 11gR2 DUPLICATE TARGET FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE - Issue -HELP
First question.
Can primary and standby database have the same SID name?
As I recall it is yes.
I believe they must have different GLOBAL or DB_UNIQUE_NAME?
Anyway, RMAN I believe is telling me it is having problems copying control file on first and dies.
Permissions Issue on STANDBY machine?

ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle serverHi,
Permissions Issue on STANDBY machine?First problem I see is the sysdba password must be the same on both sides (target and auxiliary dbs).
From the documentation.
The source database and auxiliary instances must use the same SYSDBA password, which means that both instances must have password files. You can
create the password file with a single password so you can start the auxiliary instance and enable the source database to connect to it.Check all prereqs for the standby db duplicate here.

10.2.0.4 patch on single instance standby database
Hi All,
We have production database 10.2.0.3 running with RAC having 2 nodes on Solaris 10. We have patched this
databases to 10.2.0.4 (both nodes) on production without any issue.
We have a physical standby database (10.2.0.3) with 2 nodes on solaris 10. But we have stopped node2 sometime
back and currently it's a single instance standby database. Whe nwe are trying to apply patch to standby dataabse
it's showing both node during installation and installation fails when it tries to search for node2.
What's the solution for this problem? Any document on how to patch the single instance standby database when
production is running in RAC.I think you are basically saying that you have a 2 node RAC cluster with 1 node down (possibly permanently) and you want to just patch 1 of the nodes?
It's not overly a surprise the installer is trying to patch the other node, when as far as your inventory is concerned you have a 2 node cluster.
Have you tried running the installer with the -local option?
This should just patch your local node. Obviously the dictionary changes will get applied via MRP from the primary db.
jason.

When executing 'duplicate target database for standby from active' the system tablespace/datafile (datafile 1) is not cloned. All other datafiles clone successfully. The RMAN process aborts with the following errors while attempting to clone the system tablespace/datafile.
ORA-19558: error de-allocating device
ORA-19557: device error, device type: DISK, device name:
ORA-17627: ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
ORA-17627: ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Here are the details:
Primary is 11.2.0.2 RAC database on an Exadata platform
Standby is 11.2.0.2 Single Instance database (same patch level as primary) on a Red Hat Linux box
This is an ASM to ASM duplication.
This is not unique to this database. We tried another database and go the same behavior - all datafiles clone successfully with the exception of the system tablespace/datafile.
We have traced the RMAN execution and it seems to fail when it is trying to assign a NEWNAME to the system tablespace/datafile.
We even issued an explicit SET NEWNAME command but RMAN ignored it.
We also shutdown the primary and started is up in mount mode thinking that something had ahold of the System Tablespace/datafile.
We also opened up the network firewall to allow permit any,any traffic.
We increased the max_server_processes
and added TCP.NODELAY=yes to the sqlnet.ora file.
There seems to be some artifact present in our Primary System tablespace/data file that is preventing it form being cloned.
checked all alert files grid, asm, and dbhome - no abnormal messages.
We are in the process of restoring the database from a backup but we would prefer to get this working using the 'Active Database' methodologyI successfully created the standby database using RMAN backup and recovery.
I started the managed recovery. Archive logs are being sent from the primary to the standby ( I can see them in ASM), but the standby is not applying them.
I get the following messages in the standby alert log...

Automate creating single PDF file from multiple documents
Hi everyone ! I am testing the Adobe XI version, especially because I need it for a very specific function.I haven't found it yet, maybe you guys can help ?
Basically, I need to make a user friendly system, that in one click will create a single PDF document from multiple files :
To be more precise : I have in a folder on the network 25 different documents (Word and PDF mainly). Some of these documents change weekly. What I need as an end result is a single PDF, that combines these 25 ones in a specific order, and the tricky part is I need to automate this so that someone with absolutely no knowledge of Acrobat can perform this task, with just a click.
I have found of course the procedure to manually build such a combined PDF, but as you can see it does not fulfil my needs.
So that's it, as simple as that
As a bonus question : I am still struggling with the construction of these documents : in the Word documents I use, there are both internal links within the document, and links between the documents (pointing to other Word files, or PDF files). I keep losing those links when I combine, is there something I am missing ?
Second bonus question : I would like to have multiple levels of signets, but for some reason all my signets are at the same hierarchical level. Anything I am doing wrong ?
A free electronic doughnut for anyone giving me a hint !When you combine you have many PDFs together in one, new PDF. Your orignal links are from one specific file to another specific file. A combine does not change the link in the original file. So the link is now from the PDFcombined to the second specific file. However, "second specific file" won't be present - so, "broken link".
Be well... -
Using DBCA to create ASM instance; no member disks found
OK, we've been struggling with this for two days and we can't seem to find the magic mojo to get it working.
I've got two Redhat 64-bit machines running Oracle 10.2.0.3 on them. Clusterware is installed fine and communicating properly. We've installed ASMLib and created our ASM disks fine and they list correctly using the oracleasm utility.
Our problem is that when I go to create the ASM instance (using DBCA) the member disks do not show up. I have tried changing the "Disk Discovery Path", I've created listeners, started DBCA from different Oracle homes, re-installed, etc... nothing seems to work.
I've even seen a few threads where people have experienced the same problem but have not seen solutions. Anyone have ideas how I can resolve this issue?Actually, it needs to be root:dba, sorry for the confusion:

How to create a physical RAC standby from a RAC primary on Std Edition 11g
Hi All,
I need to create a physical RAC standby with ASM (2 nodes - Linux) from a RAC primary(2 nodes - linux) with Standard Edition 11g. But I don´t want to use dataguard.
I know that to use dataguard is possible only Enterprise Edition.
Does anybody knows about any documents ID on metalink or any article about this ?
I appreciate if may help me.
Thanks.

Create single-value measure from a measure array
I need some education on MDX.. :) I have Measure A which gets calculated across Dimensions Dim X, DimY and DimMonthly.
is there a way or maybe function to create Measure B derived from measure A but selects only single Measure A value attributed to LastMonthValue (e.g. relative to today, Nov 2013 for today) and crosses DimMonthly on Nov 2013?
What should I use
filter - Filter Nov 2013?
Tail function with item(0)?
or create Measure B based on default named set = Nov 2013
or it could be done only using SELECT?Thank you, I realize that. I was just trying to mimic current report layout, which was not OLAP. As a workaround I just set filter to show certain month (Nov 13) and supplied all metrics for that single month - MTD,YTD, LYMTD, LYTD, AVG, Growth rate, etc.
Will see what user will say :)! -
Creating single page pdfs from a brochure designed in spreads format
Hi there,
So I've been asked to take a brochure that is in spreads, and save each panel as a single page pdf. So basically, in document setup, the page size is 17.75 x 8.5). There are four panels, each panel is roughly 4.3708 x 8.5. The problem is, each panel was not created as a single page in indesign...instead, it's set up as a 17.75 x 8.5 document and the panels are created within that document size.
I guess I wanted to find out if there is an efficient way of creating these single panel pdfs from what I've been given.
Anybody know? It's either copy/paste into a properly laid out facing pages document (the best choice if it will need editing in the future), or place the pages, each one twice, into a facing pages pages doc and crop the wrong half off each page. In either case, you'll need to rearrange the pages into readers' spreads.

being a new programmer in XML world,my question might sound a bit stupid but your answers would mean a world to me. i have to generate a single XML document from my database by querying more than one table. for example i have 3 tables i.e HR_EMP_NAME, HR_PRODUCTS_DETAIL, HR_PAYROLL_SUMMARY. all three tables have completely different columns except one ID column which is a foreign kay from HR_MASTER_LIST. i want to get any insert operation on these tables as a single document. so far as i have studied, one option is to generate XMLDoc using XSU and then add child nodes using JAXP but i am ot geting the logic right.
please do reply.
thanks a lot
usmanThis is an SQL/XML based answer so how much it helps you is hard to say, but it would be one option. You can have the SQL statement build the XML for you as shown by this simple example.
SELECT XMLElement("root",
XMLForest(emp.dummy AS "emp_name",
prod.dummy AS "prod_lvl",
pay.dummy AS "pay_scale"))
FROM dual emp,
dual prod,
dual pay
WHERE emp.dummy = prod.dummy
AND emp.dummy = pay.dummy;which produces (formatted for human readability)
<root>
<emp_name>X</emp_name>
<prod_lvl>X</prod_lvl>
<pay_scale>X</pay_scale>
</root>Whether that works with what you are trying to do via Java you will have to decide. -
MAIN STEPS IN MOVING 9i single instance TO 10 g RAC
Hello Guys,
colud you give me some basic steps, general idea how to move normal single instance database 9i (windows platform) to 10g RAC (linux)?
Maybe these are correct steps ?:
1 Migrate database to 10g ?
2. Migrate to ASM
3. Duplicate this db twith RMAN to 10g RAC databasE?
Best Regards
RadekSince you are moving from one OS to another - is export/import an option for the move from Windows to Linux? If yes then here are high level steps:
Export/Import Option:
1) Install and configure CRS/RAC on Linux
2) Create a RAC database on Linux
3) Pre-create tablespaces as it exists in your Oracle9i database
4) Export from 9i and import into 10g.
If not:
On Windows:
1) Install Oracle10g
2) Upgrade your Oracle9i to Oracle10g
3) Install/Configure CRS/RAC on your Linux
4) Create a RAC database.
5) Use RMAN's CONVERT option for cross-platform move of tablespaces from win to linux (check this http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/dbxptrn001.htm#sthref1383 for more information on this)
You almost got all the steps for the second option, except that I have just included step 5.
HTH
Thanks

Multiple databases/instances on 4-node RAC Cluster including Physical Stand
OS: Windows 2003 Server R2 X64
DB: 10.2.0.4
Virtualization: NONE
Node Configuration: x64 architecture - 4-Socket Quad-Core (16 CPUs)
Node Memory: 128GB RAM
We are planning the following on the above-mentioned 4-node RAC cluster:
Node 1: DB1 with instanceDB11 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 2: DB1 with instanceDB12 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 3: DB1 with instanceDB13 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB21 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB31 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance41 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Node 4: DB1 with instanceDB14 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB22 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB32 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance42 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
Note: DB1 will be the physical primary PROD OLTP database and will be open in READ-WRITE mode 24x7x365.
Note: DB2 will be a Physical Standby of DB1 and will be open in Read-Only mode for reporting purposes during the day-time, except for 3 hours at night when it will apply the logs.
Note: DB3 will be a Physical Standby of a remote database DB4 (not part of this cluster) and will be mounted in Managed Recovery mode for automatic failover/switchover purposes.
Note: DB4 will be the physical primary Data Warehouse DB.
Note: Going to 11g is NOT an option.
Note: Data Guard broker will be used across the board.
Please answer/advise of the following:
1. Is the above configuration supported and why so? If not, what are the alternatives?
2. Is the above configuration recommended and why so? If not, what are the recommended alternatives?Hi,
As far as i understand, there's nothing wrong in configuration except you need to consider below points while implementing final design.
1. No of CPU on each servers
2. Memory on each servers
3. If you've RAC physical standby then apply(MRP0) will run on only one instance.
4. Since you are configuring physical standby for on 3rd and 4th nodes of DB1 4 node cluster where DB13 and DB14 instances are used only for failver, if you've a disaster at data center or power failure in entire data center, you are losing both primary and secondary with an assumption that your primary and physical standby reside in same data center so it may not be highly available architecture. If you are going to use extended RAC for this configuration then it makes sense where Node 1 and Node 2 will reside in Datacenter A and Node 3 ,4 will reside in Datacenter B.
Thanks,
