Using RSS Feeds and Podcasts

I've spent some time trying to figure all of this out but for some reason I can't quite grip how it all works, and how to do it. If anyone knows of any links that would help me how to create a podcast and use the RSS Feeds in iWeb, that would be great. Or if anyone knows an easy way to explain it.

Hi Josh,
I'm having similar problems as you -- I created a website on iWeb, and made a podcast in mp3 format that I put on the site. I wanted to submit the RSS feed to iTunes, so the podcast would be available through the iTunes store. But neither iTunes nor Feedburner recognizes the URL for the RSS feed. I'm wondering if I got the URL wrong, or if iWeb's automatically-generated "Subscribe" button doesn't work, or what. Any tips? Whatever happened with your podcast? I've spent hours and hours online trying to figure this out. Thanks!

  • RSS Feed and  Podcast Categories Issue

    Hey everyone,
I'm having a lot of problems publishing my podcasts with iweb. I create them on Garageband and then send to iWeb where they're part of a larger site. Anyway, they were working at one stage, but now seem not to be at all.
I ran the RSS feed through fee validator and it's telling me the categories chosen are not longer valid itunes categories. I want them in video games, but there's no choice for this when I'm going through iWeb.
The issue is that I don't know how to get to the RSS feed to edit it. I only see the iWeb format, but I want the actual source code etc to go in and change that around if possible. Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks in advance
    Tracy

    Hi,
Thanks for the help, that is much appreciated. Sadly I'm still having the same issue. The two old dead feeds are still on iTunes after weeks of me asking for them to be removed and also after me putting the block tag into the rss feed. My new one still hasn't shown up even though it was updated on Saturday... it's really a nightmare.
    Can someone please please help.
    Thanks

  • Maximum Number of RSS Feeds and Podcasts

    Hello All.
Can a single web site created with iWeb have multiple podcasts, blogs, etc.?
I ask because I am concerned that having two different podcasts, for example, may mess up the RSS information causing problems for people who may have subscribed to one podcast, but not both.
    Does that make sense? Thanks.
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Potsnpans,
I can tell my experience with my double Podcasts.
First I started the original Podcast inside of my existing Blog site.
A couple of weeks later, I realized I should set up my Podcast as an individual site, separated from Blog. So, I created a new Podcast site with slightly different site name. Then, what happens to me was:
    • The old Podcast was gone from the iTunes Podcast list. Though I typed in and searched, the answer was "not existing." But actually the files were in my iWeb, and could view on the net. (I call it "Exile" files.)
    • Also, the strange things happened to the new Podcast site.
Although it was delivered by RSS, I couldn't search.
Therefore, iWeb is supposed to be rejecting "doubled" Podcasts from one .Mac account.
This iWeb has a million of uncertain conditions, I think (and hope) Team .Mac is improving so many functions and delivering conditions. We'd be better waiting for the new version or patch ups.
    Did I make it clear?

  • Can anyone tell me the difference between the rss.xml and podcast.xml?

I have the Podcast maker program. Can anyone tell me the difference between the rss.xml and podcast.xml? How do they differ? What do I use each of them for? Where should I put them in my directory?

Podcast Maker sets up your podcast from media files you enter into it; you enter the summary and description. It then publishes to your iDisk or other server, and in the process created the podcast.xml file which you can submit to iTunes.
It doesn't create an rss.xml file: it sounds as if you are also creating the podcast in iWeb, which does. This has the advantage of creating a web page; it will also create the rss.xml file.
Both are valid - of course if there are any differences between the version in Podcast Maker and the version in iWeb then the xml files will be different. But basically you seem to be creating two versions of the same podcast - if you are making it in iWeb then the Podcast maker version is really redundant (though I prefer it for podcast creation). If you want to go on using both I should use the podcast.xml feed it creates.

  • RSS feeds and tags for blog series?

    Hi,
We are trying to establish a blog series for news regarding our small OS/DB platform (DB4). Granularity of Categories regarding SDN blogs is far too low to shrink the contents suitably for our target group by using RSS feeds for a Category. And I suppose there is no way to create a dedicated category for the small amount of contributions to expect.
So, the current approach is to tell people to subscribe to the RSS feed pointing to my personal account. This is only a bad workaround. I'd prefer tagging the blog series with a specific keyword so other members of our group could contribute to the series, and blog contributions to other topics by me could be filtered out.
    Any suggestions? Thanks a lot,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
My suggestion would be to use the SCN wiki
Each space has its own rss feed. I believe there is also a new way to work with specific wiki pages and labels.
I recommend you reach out to Moshe Naveh from my team and he'll assist.

  • RSS feed and DOMParser. Confused and urgent.

Hi, I'm VERY new to RSS and have decided to give this application a try.
I'm trying to create a java application that reads
    http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/081/c00234
and prints out informations such as "Title, link, description", and etc.
However, I don't know how to use a DOMParser to read the URL.
    I have tried
    DOMParser parser = new DOMParser();
parser.parse("http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/081/c00234");but have not yet tested it with the nodes. I'd just like to ask before going in further if there is any one who has done RSS feed and DOMParser know how to do this. I'm at wits end and have been googling for few hours now.

  • ITunes U RSS feeds and Firefox Live bookmark

It seems there is a problem with rss feeds and ffox live bookmarks.
I tried subscribing to - http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Feed/itunes.stanford.edu.1524698736 .01524698739. However I do not get the plus sign indicating there are additional items.

Apple allows you to interact with iTunes U as an administrator through an XML-based web service. It's described in the iTunes U administrators guide:
    http://tinyurl.com/5nm73n
In particular, you're looking for the UpdateGroup web service directive:
    http://tinyurl.com/bmh2xw
If you send Apple an UpdateGroup directive, referring to a specific group (tab) within a course that feeds from one of your RSS servers, you're asking Apple to process the feed "now" (where "now" is defined to be "as soon as possible") as opposed to having to wait for an overnight feed refresh.
Have a look at the documentation ... if you're a little bit of a developer, it should make some sense. If not, I owe someone from Apple a favor and might give you a simpler way of using the directive ... without requiring you to write code yourself.

  • RSS Feeds and own domain -- sorry but this is kind of a long question

I've been reading the very useful advice on RSS feeds and how they work with your own domain name.
I am trying to update my blog to my hosted site and I can't get it to follow the RSS path so that the subscription link works. (I am getting a file not found error message.)
I updated and published the site on .mac, where it is fine. <http://web.mac.com/lisajacobs/iWeb/Immigra/Blog/Blog.html>
Then I published the site again to the same folder I used when I put the site up this morning. Since I only wanted to change the blog pages and not the entire site, I ftp'ed up the Blog folder to my own domain site <http://www.immigra.com/Blog/Blog.html>
The published web folder on my desktop has in it folders along the lines of Extraordinary_files and Extraordinary.html and so forth for the different pages of the site. However, there is no corresponding Blog.html file.
I am thinking that this missing file may be the cause of the RSS problem -- but where is it? Why didn't iWeb make it for my folder? (I have an old Blog.html file on my site but it is clearly from the last iteration of the blog, as the latest blog entry is not there.)
Or is there a different cause of the problem that I am not diagnosing? I am reluctant to ftp the entire site up every time I change the blog for two reasons 1) I made an edit to the html code on the welcome page (so that links would open a different page) and 2) it takes a really long time to upload the whole thing, which makes it a pain to have quick blog updates.\

    However, when I uploaded
only the blog folder and its contents, it did not
    appear on my site.
I see the last entry as May 10, so that's the old one right?
My guess would be that you did not actually upload the new blog folder. Depending on how you have things organized, you may still have your old one there somewhere, and you may have selected it by mistake with your ftp program.
I would double-check the Blog folder on your drive to make sure it has been updated, and that this is the folder you have tried to upload.
Does publishing to the folder in itself change the
entire structure so that the whole site has to be
    FTP'ed up again?
    No.

  • Using RSS feeds with keynote

Does anyone have an idea how to use RSS feeds within keynote? I don't believe there is any embedded function, but hopefully there is a workaround. Could you download the RSS feed, then somehow reference the text in keynote? Any ideas?

    Welcome Wolf12358
Easy to do this in Quartz Composer a free developer tool for visual programming. Other route is if you have Keynote08 you can make a hyperlink to a webpage. Save the slide and open in Keynote09 in which this function has been depreciated for whatever reason. Not sure if the RSS feeds will render but give it a try. If you don't have KN08 but can post the URL somebody will make it and post it for you to dl.

  • How do I subscribe to RSS feeds and manage RSS feeds?

I can't figure out how to subscribe to RSS feeds and manage RSS feeds?

    Hi TedEvansJr,
Subscribing to a feed is pretty easy in Firefox. Just take a look at [http://kb.mozillazine.org/RSS:_Live_Bookmarks_overview_%28Firefox%29 this article] and you should be ready to go.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • What is RSS feeds and how it can be used in Portal.

    Hi All,
Please someone have any idea , "How can we use the RSS feeds in portal " . This is a new concept for me , so I m totally aliegn for this topic.
    Thanks in advance.
    Mayank kumar saxena

    Hi,
We already done some development based on rss feed, but it was not for any portal content.
We generated these files outside portal then scheduled to upload to km folder.
In portal, we have to use km repostitory to store these file. By setting these folders for anonymous access, user can subsribe to this Feed, which will get updated with out login.
The basic requirement to develope rss feed is to understand the xml format. With the help of internet you can learn, its simple.
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <rss version="2.0">

Try to put this code in km as xml file and browse it. This file will act as Feed. Search internet for more info about feeds.

  • RSS Feeds and a Today Smart Mailbox

How can I have posts from RSS feeds I am subscribed to Not show up in a Today Smart Mailbox?
I tried to add a condition to the smart mailbox but I don't see parameters that would cover not showing the feed posts.

Your Store page is at https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/drunkards-and-dragons/id602663440?mt=2
The Store isn't using the feed you linked to, but the one at
    http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/34731626-drunkdnd/tracks
This has three episodes, all of which play in the Store and the two I checked downloaded on subscribing.
Your feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/drunkdnd has four episodes; it can be subscribed to manually in the Store and the episodes download OK, so I'm not sure what the problem is. However this feed uses different episode media URLs; they are hosted on archive.org and are using https rather than http, and although the iTunes application handles them when subscribing it's possible that the Store itself is baulking at them. It would be better if you could provide a direct http URL to the files.
If you want to move the Store from using the soundcloud feed to the feedburner one you will need to add an 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to the old feed, containing the URL of the new feed. The process is decribed in detail here:

  • Changing RSS feeds and a broken feed

Hey everyone. I'm changing the RSS feed for my podcast, and am wondering how to bring down the old stuff from the other RSS feed. I'm also having trouble with this new feed, iTunes keeps saying that it is having trouble downloading the episodes. I tried so many different things to try and get it to work, and I'm certain that what I have now should be working. If someone could take a look at my feed and let me know what I have to change, that would be great!

  • Can't validate the feed and podcasts not downloading

after hours of trying various things and my eyes hurting now :0) here i am asking for help.
i can't seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong in terms of validating my feed. and due to that none of the podcasts are downloading. I went to the techspecs and followed instructions on the code and re-traced my steps...
the message that comes up at the feedvalidator is:
line 9, column 1: XML parsing error: <unknown>:9:1: unbound prefix
here is the link to my rss xml feed:
    http://www.spheresofessence.com/rss/empodcast.xml
any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!
    thank you

I don't see anything specifically wrong with your xml - however the previous post regarding the itunes duration tag is wrong. I have used durations up to and exceeding an hour without any problems.
    <itunes:duration>01:00:02</itunes:duration>
Your length is likely represented wrong, as it appears as 12.6KB, which would be an impossibly short mp3. If the length is actually more like 1.26Mb or 12.6Mb, then the length would be represented by 1321206 or 13212058 bytes respectively.
Neither of these should invalidate your feed though.
One other thing to check is - are your mp3 files actually located at the url you've used? I get an error trying to link directly to them.
