Using scanner on an HP C7280 all in one when printer component doesnt work

I have an HP C7280 that has been having problems not printing for a lot of reasons that are not fixable. However, I would like to use the scanner portion of the printer. Is there a way to get the printer to scan/copy only and eliminate the printer side of the "all in one"?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you would like to retire your printer and only use it as a copier/scanner.
To better assist you, would you please give me some information on the reasons why the printing side is being retired? I’m asking because there are some errors that can occur that will stop you from using the scanner/copying features, in particular copying as it will use the printer side of things. In addition would you please let me know how the printer is connected (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?

Hey Spider! First off welcome to the forum.
I would recommend removing all the ink cartridges, unplugging the USB cable from the computer that connects to the printer, and then shutting the printer off completely by removing the power cord. Then restart your computer. Turn the printer back on but leave it disconnected from the computer. After it has finished its power on cycle go ahead and insert the ink cartridges back into the printer and be sure to seat them properly.
After you have all the cartridges back in the printer properly then connect it to the computer. See if this resolves the issue. If not post back with any findings.

Can I print documents from my 4S Iphone with my HP 6500 series all in one 709E printer? It states that it cannot locate printer when I attempt to print.

If the printer is not AirPrint compatible but is wi-fi capable, you will need to get one of the many wi-fi printing apps available at the app store. HP has an app. Some of the wi-fi printing apps have more capabilities than others.

I have an hp photosmart c7280 all-in-one series printer won't print. error message, system problem

I have an HP Photosmart All-in-One C7280 series printer/fax/copier/scanner. I have been having issues with printing for the past few weeks. It is a wireless printer, with a jack into the wall (for fax) and it is plugged into a power source. I never used to have issues with it before, but recently, it won't print when I send a document to it to print. It will print its configuration pages, reports, etc if I select them from the Printer's menu but not when I send a doc to it to print. First it was saying it was offline, but I figured out how to override that by operating as an administrator and selecting "Use Printer Online" from the dropdown menu when I right clicked on the printer from the control panel. But now it says "Error: Printer failed to print document. System error".
Noooo clue what to do now. This is the only color printer we have so we kind of need it to work. We bought this printer off the shelf at a office store (before I started working here) and so we don't have any designated technichians to work on it. I asked the guy who services our Image Runner Copier to look at it but he had no clue what was wrong with it. Hopefully someone can help?

HP C7280 all-in-one duplex printing problem - Long and short sided binding!

I use a HP 7280 all-in-one printer and have the duplexer attached. Up to installing snow leopard I have been able to print two sided documents from ipages no problems. But now every time I try to print a two sided document in flips the second side vertically (basically meaning it is binding is always long edge). When I change the setting from long edge binding to short side it makes no difference at all!!! I know this used to work, but it appears snow leopard changed that!! Any suggestion to fix the problem, thanks

One of the common issues with automatic duplexing, is the requirement of increased margins due to the way that the process works. It is not a defect, it is simply the way that the process needs to ensure print quality when auto duplexing. In contrast, manual duplexing does not have the same needs, as it draws directly from the tray. From testing of other brands, I can say that I have seen the margin issue occur with other manufacturers as well. Seems to be a necessary evil when auto duplexing.

IPhone 5s can't connect to HP C7280 All-in-One wireless printer

I'm trying to connect to my IPhone 5s to my wireless HP C7280 AiO printer. I just downloaded HP AiO Remote app. My printer is connected by ethernet to
the same wireless network as my phone. My phone can't locate the printer when selecting this wireless configuration. My printer is in the list of supported printers. Please help. Thanks!

The printer needs to be connected through the same WiFi network as the iPhone in order to use AirPrint. Connecting via Ethernet will not work.

HP Photosmart C7280 All in One - not printing

have replaced black & cyan cartridges but still get printer message saying Out of Ink. Have restarted printer and computer, downloaded printer driver, unplugged and reconnected. Control Panel shows cartridges all have ink, but still get Out of Ink in Print menu.

I would like to help you with this. I suggest removing the cartridges and reinstalling them, if an alignment does not begin automatically, I recommend performing an alignment manually. Please follow the instructions below.
Remove the cartridges.
If the alignment page does not print, press the Setup button ( ) on the front screen of the printer
Press the Down Arrow button ( ) to select Tools, and then press OK.
Press the Down Arrow button ( ) to select Align Printer, and then press OK. The product prints an alignment page, aligns the printhead, and then calibrates the product.
After the success or failure message appears on the control panel display, press OK to continue.
If the issue persists, clean the printheads
Open the HP Solution Center, click on settings
Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The Printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
Click the Device Services tab.
Click Clean the Printhead.

HP Photosmart c7280 All-in-One Mac 10.7.1 (Lion) the "Two-Sided" option is grayed and cannot use?

I have a HP Photosmart c7280 All-in-One printer and a Macbook Air that runs the Lion operating system (10.7.1).
I am trying and needing to print via the "Two-sided" option that appears under the "Layout" pull down tab option, however, the "Two-Sided" option appears to be greyed out as if you are not allowed to use it. I am sure that that is not the case I just do not know how to unlock it yet I guess?
I just made sure that all of my software was up to date and it is currently.
Everything else is perfect about the printer and I have been using it for years, so thank you! I would just like to know what on earth I am doing wrong or need to do to unlock that "Two-sided" setting, so I do not waste a ton of paper! Thanks again!

Hi DAP413,
In order to actiate the Two-Sided duplex accessory, you have to enable it from the printer settings:
-Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan
-Double click the Photosmart printer name to open the Print Queue.
-Click the Printer Setup button
-Click the Driver tab and make sure the Two-Sided Printing Accessory option is checked.

Scan menu on C7280 All-in-One has changed

The scan menu on my Photosmart C7280 All-in-One used to have a "Scan to iPhoto" setting. It has disappeared. It will still scan but when the scans go is anyone's guess. Can anyone help?

Yeah, they used the software update to dumb it down by removing a bunch of options, including resolution, type of scan and ability to name the folder and file name for the scanned item. Mostly made it useless - a big step backwards. When mine dies it will not be replaced by an HP unit; I'll find something that actually allows me to control what happens with the scanner. What a joke.

Since I installed Mountain Lion operating system, I cannot print. I have a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer. I get a message when I try to update the software "Server not available The software update service is currently not available."

After installing Mountain Lion, my printer doesn't work. I know it is connected as it shows up, The message is:
"The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software for this printer or conact the anufacturer for assistance."
I used the disk that came with the printer as when I go to the HP site, it tells me that Apple has the drivers needed. I unistalled the printer and reistalled. Previously, I just went to the HP website an everything worked fine for drivers, program, etc. I never had to use the CD that came with the printer. My printer is: HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one, it is wireless, but I even took the computer and plugged it into the printer to make sure that everything was connected. Can someone please help me to get this working,

My HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One printer won´t print out documents, just pictures. I´ve used the printer, since it was new on the marked, and it has worked perfectly until a few weeks back. There is no problem printing out pictures, but only blank pages comes out when I´m printing out documents. Regardless if it is Word, Excel etc.
I´ve never used anything else than original cartridges, and the printer is used on Mac OS X 10.7.4. I´ve tried to reinstall the printer several times without any success.
Can anyone help me?

Printing borderless 4 x 6 photos from iPhoto on HP C7280 All-In-One?

I'm trying to help a friend with a printing problem and can use some help.
My friend uses a Macbook Pro running the latest version of OSX. He has a Hewlett Packard C7280 All-In-One as his printer.
My friend Joe likes to print 4 x 6 borderless photos from iPhoto but can't seem to make it work. Each time he tries to print a 4 x 6 borderless photo the photo comes out on 8.5 x 11 paper. The filled photo paper tray does not engage. He has "told" the printer that he wants 4 x 6 borderless on photo paper by making the appropriate selections.
This problem does not occur if he prints the pictures using HP Printing Solutions, the photo management application that came with the printer. When he uses the HP application he gets what he wants, 4 x 6 borderless prints.
I suspect that there is some setting currently unknown to us that needs to be adjusted in either OSX or iPhoto to enable us to print 4 x 6 borderless pictures in the same way we can with the HP photo management application.
Can anyone help?

I don't have any HP, I use Canon, but if I give you the steps I need to take from iPhoto 09 to print borderless 4 x 6, then you may be able to apply this to your friends printer.
In the iPhoto 09 print dialog, I need to select:
Printer: Canon MP980
Presets: Photo on Photo Paper
Paper Size: 4"x6" (borderless)
Print Size: Borderless
Now when you press Print, the print dialog will appear. Here I have to select Presets again and set to Photo on Photo Paper. I then change the iPhoto menu to the Canon quality menus to set additional information about the image quality. Now it is ready to print.

HP C7280 All in One Error B042EBCC

My Photosmart Express HP C7280 All in one printer was all flashing lights last night. It would not power off with the power button, so I unplugged it. Now when I plug it back in it immediately shows "B042EBCC" on a blue screen and goes no further. There is also a little blue flashing light under the camera picture next to the slots for the photo memory cards. Any help with resolving this and getting me back to printing will be greatly appreciated. Jere' in MS.

I recently had the same problem with an HP Photosmart C7280, the same model as yours. I eventually managed to get through to HP Technical Support, and they advised that the unit would have to be replaced.
Before calling technical support, I tried all the steps that have been recommended in various posts (the printer reset with *6, removing/reinserting ink cartridges, using a different power outlet in my house, etc), but nothing helped. To the best of my knowledge - and I really tried to get my printer working - the unit is dead.
(Although this is an old post, I came across it when trying to fix the same issue. So, hopefully this will help anyone else who stumbles upon this post. Some other codes my printer showed on the HP "blue screen of death" were B83FCB56, B0075110 and B02BAEC3.)
