Using SCOV ( Coverage Analyzer) in Production

Hi,
Our organization would like to start using SCOV ( Coverage Analyzer ) on our Production system. From owr understanding, when the main switch is turned on, there are several jobs sheduled that compile all programs. This step should be very expensive in terms of system resources and when it is done on Production system - it could be crutual. My question: is there any way to make this step easier in terms of performance overhead? Maybe to run it on each Application Server seperately?
In general I would like to know if anyone has experience running SCOV on production system. Is there any effect on performance except the first compilcation step?
Thanks in advance,
Anna Lifshits-Agmon

you might want to take a look at OSS note 626215. We recently ran this overnight in our development system and it fell over, running out of tablespace in certain areas. Next time we ran it, we used the note, extended the necessary tablespaces and made sure we kept an eye on it. It took a day to run in our development system as it generates every program on the system. We've not yet tried it on Production.

  • Reg: Unicode- Coverage Analyzer- (SCOV)

    Hi
Can any one tell me how we can use the Coverage Analyzer (Transaction SCOV)as a tool for Unicode enabling. What are the sequence of steps that are to be followed.
Any Information, Documentation, Links, or examples that elucidates  the same are highly solicited.
    Thank you in anticipation.
    Regards,
    Sravan.

    Hi,
    I haven't used SCOV much.
In SCOV, 'global view' gives you a set of figures and graphical representation of system performance data. One of these graphs show the unicode-percentange of all programs that are unicode-enabled(one axis is time (month) and other axis represents percentage of programs that are unicode enabled). This is just to see how many programs have been unicode-enabled in the system. As long as you are not 100%, there is work to be done.
To force unicode-enabling (there may be programs which are unicode compliant but have not been set to unicode), you can check the profile parameter abap/unicode_check to enforce unicode syntax checks. (This has nothing to do with SCOV per se).
Now, how best to use SCOV when an object is being unicode-enabled and you need to make sure it is working fine?
After unicode-enabling the program you need to test it to make sure it works. But after running one or more tests successfully, how do you know whether all lines of code in the program have been covered in the tests?
SCOV can give you information whether all blocks of the code has been tested or not. If all blocks of a program/object have been tested after unicode-enabling (as reported in SCOV) then you can assume your testing to be complete. If on the other hand some blocks (let us say cetain subroutines in the program) have not been executed,  you can see this in the detailed view in SCOV, and accordingly run other tests to ensure that this code is tested.
I am sorry I can not give you a step by step for this, if you post your mail-id, I can probably mail you a document which talks about this in a little (not much) detail.
    cheers,

  • Unicode Coverage analyzer

    Hi,
Can somebody please help me with how to use coverage analyzer?
    Thanks,
    Yogita

    Hello
The Coverage Analyzer is a tool for entering the number of calls for processing blocks and executable programs separately according to periods, users and functional areas. The processing blocks and executable programs together with their keywords are shown in the following table:
    Unit
    Keyword
    Procedures
    form, function, method
    Dialog modules
    module
    Event blocks
at line selection, at pf<xx>, at selection screen, at user command, end of page, end of selection, get, get late, initialization, start-of-selection, top-of-page
    Programs
    program, report
The Coverage Analyzer is, therefore, a function for monitoring the system-wide execution of ABAP programs. It also
enables the success of test activities to be assessed for quality checks,
provides an overview of the use of programs for development purposes.
    The transaction is SCOV.

  • Using the VI Analyzer in a built application

I have a application that is being designed for a continuous integration server.  This application uses the VI Analyzer API (Labview 2009 at the moment) to run a set of tests on a folder of VIs.  The issue is that when the program is run as VI everything is happy, the folder is added using the "VIAn Add Item.vi" and the task runs on the four VI's in the folder.  But when the VI is built and ran as an exe, "VIAn Add Item.vi" appears to add the folder but the no vi's are analyzed and if a specific VI is given then error 53 is thrown by "NI_FileType.lvlib:Get File Type.vi".  Is this simply a case of not being able to use the VI Analyzer API in a built application that is being run as a exe?  I attached the front panel of the built app after it has been run and the back panel of the source code in question; there is more to it the rest of it is just for determining the paths to scan.
    Solved!

bp of built app.png ‏23 KB

It was decided the installing the editor environment on the server would not be a big deal, so I was able to get it working by writing a batch file that calls labview, passes the vi to it to be opened, and passes any user-defined augments to the vi.  In the VI, I set the "run-on-call" option to true, and added a "quit Labview" block at the end.  This way it "acts" like a built program, just with a long startup time.
I know its not ideal or "correct" (if there is such thing when using a product in a way that it not indented) but it only needs to be on the one server so in this case it is fine.
In the future this functionality (using the VI Analyzer API from within a built application) might be a nice thing to add to software validation tool set that is already in place, if its possible. (It may not be)
Anyway just my 2 cents on the subject, thanks for the help and quick responses.

  • Using SSAS to analyze sql server performance

    Hi Folks,
I have a database repository database where i store info about all 160 sql servers.
Can i use ssas to analyze that data i am dba is there any sample cube which does this stuff.
    Any help highly appreciated !!
    Thanks,
    Ashwin.

    Hi Ashwin,
According to your description, all 160 SQL servers information were stored in the repository database, now what you want is using SQL Server Analysis Services, right?
Analysis Services is a data source that serves as the Semantic layer for all your BI clients. It’s where you can define important business entities such as product lines or service offerings in one place with all the key metrics
supporting them. In your scenario, if you have created a multidimensional database based on this database, you can create several of KPI to analyze the servers' performance. Here are some links for you reference.

If you haven't create a SSAS database, you can refer to the link below to see how to monitor multiple servers.

  • Who uses the VI Analyzer?

I would like to know how people are using the VI Analyzer Toolkit to improve the style, performance, and robustness of their VIs. Do you use it more as a spot-checking utility for VIs as you write them, or have you utilized the programmatic interface to incorporate the VI Analyzer fully into your development process? What successes (or failures) have you had in doing so? Are there any tests that ship with the VI Analyzer that you have found particularly helpful, or are you finding holes in the test coverage?
For anyone who has not yet used the VI Analyzer, you should check out Mike Neal's VI Analyzer presentation, or better yet, try out the toolkit yourself with the LabVIEW Add-Ons Online Evaluation.

    Hi Joe,
Thanks very much for the feedback.  It definitely sounds your development team would not find the stylistic checks provided by the VI Analyzer to be useful based on your current way of doing things.  However, the VI Analyzer can prove extremely useful as a debugging tool, and I'm guessing that your development team does have to debug VIs on occasion.
Here's a scenario...imagine a very simple VI that uses the Increment function to add 1 to the value of a control and then sends the result to an indicator.  However, when you run the VI, the number does not increment.  A quick check of the wires shows that you accidentally wired the input wire of the Increment directly under the Increment's output terminal and straight to the indicator, such that it *looks* like you're wiring from the output of the function.  Now this scenario would be extremely easy to debug in this simple VI, but what if this wiring error was present somewhere within a very large application, and you had to spend hours debugging some incorrect behavior of your application only to discover this errant wire as the culprit?  There are actually two tests in the VI Analyzer that can very quickly discover this error...the Unused Code test would flag the Increment function as being unused (since its output wasn't wired), and the Wires Under Objects test would flag the input wire as going under the output terminal of the function.
Here's another scenario...imagine another simple VI that takes an input array and multiplies it by some constant value to scale all the values in the array.  However, when you look at the VI Properties of the VI, it takes up over 8 MB of disk space!  The reason for this is that someone, at some point, accidentally chose the "Make Current Values Default" option on the VI, and there were a million values in the array output indicator when they did it.  Again, an easy situation to solve when looking at this simple VI, but not so easy if this problem existed in a large application.  And again, there are two VI Analyzer tests that would help you discover this error...the VI Size test (for obvious reasons), and the Array Default Values test (which will flag any array control/indicator that is wired to the connector pane and has a non-empty default value).  This is actually a real-life example...one of my colleagues used the VI Analyzer as part of a code review for another group internal to NI and discovered this very problem in one of their VIs they were going to ship in a LabVIEW toolkit.
I could go on and on here, but the point is that the VI Analyzer is much more than a style-checking tool, although many customers and internal NI groups have found it very useful in this regard.  I would say that for your average LabVIEW programmer, the debugging potential of the VI Analyzer is by far its most compelling feature.
As for your other question, you are correct that the VI Analyzer is an edit-time tool, and does not perform run-time analysis.  I agree with you that a run-time analysis tool for LabVIEW would definitely be useful.
Finally, you asked if NI uses the VI Analyzer as a matter of policy.  The answer is yes, we have several groups internal to NI that use the VI Analyzer.  Some groups use it informally as an aid with code reviews, while other groups have completely adopted it into their development and build processes.
I really appreciate your feedback.  Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments.

Go to http://www.apple.com/asia/support/mac/app-store/ , click on 'iTunes Store Account and Billing' then 'Billing Enquiries' to get a link to email them. Ask them whether there is a way you can purchase Apps, perhaps by nominating one of the listed countries (Vietnam, for example).

  • Using OUI for installing custom products

    Hi All,
I want to use OUI to install a custom product that I have developed. So i have some doubts regarding that...
    1. Can OUI be pointed to a new Products.xml file which contains the details of the new product installation.
    2. Is there some link, documentation, APIs to do that?
Any sort of help is appreciated as it is crucial...
    Thanks,
    SaurabhS

    HI user784664
I'm afraid that you can't do that. Products.xml can be use to perform silent installed, When prompted by OUI, locate products.xml in the installation source directory:
    i.e connectors/framework/10.2.0.2/1.0/source/Disk1/stage
Oracle Universal Installer to install Oracle products in any of the three following modes:
    * Interactive:
Use OUI's interactive mode to use the graphical user interface to walk through the installation, providing information in the installation dialogs when prompted.
This method is most useful when installing a small number of products in different setups on a small number of machines
    * Suppressed:
Use OUI's suppressed mode to supply the necessary information by using a combination of a response file or command line entries with certain interactive dialogs. You can choose which dialogs to suppress by supplying the information at the command line when you invoke OUI. This method is most useful when an installation has a common set of parameters that can be captured in a response file, in addition to custom information that must be input by hand.
    * Silent:
Use OUI's silent installation mode to bypass the graphical user interface and supply the necessary information in a response file. This method is most useful when installing the same product multiple times on multiple machines. By using a response file, you can automate the installation of a product for which you know the installation parameters.
Herewith the detailled documentation about OUI:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16227/toc.htm
But may be a request via metalink it should be possible to get more details about that question. Oracle is using the OUI API for Grid controller, CRS, ASM and RDBMS so why not with your product.
