Using Sears Optical Lens Cleaner to clean my MacBook's screen

Is it alright to be using Sears Optical Lens Cleaner to clean my MacBook's screen? I spray it on a micro-fiber cloth first, of course.

Hi jsnlvy, welcome to macbook forum.
well,.. apple recommend to use slightly water damped micro fiber soft cloth to clean the screen.
I sometimes sprayed lightly water based glass cleaner to that dampen fabric to get rid of stubborn smudge, and after that I use dry cotton ball in circular stroke motion to get rid the streak mark.
I am afraid that the Optical lens solvent is to strong for your screen and might damage your screen. But if you want to try it, dampen the cloth with water first as I did and applied at a small area and check it is safe.
Good Luck.

  • Any mac user use some kind of apps to "clean" your mac???

i know that a lot of software are build for "CLEAN YOUR MAC", software like clean my mac, mac keeper, ccleaner. etc
they all said that when we use our mac, there are a lot of "dummiy files " like language pack or used history .ect that need to be cleaned.
if we dun clean it, it will make the system laggy.
i know some ppl on the internet said its true, then other ppl said that all these softwares are jus malware, its totally unecessary to use all these.
the mac ox system will clean itself.
    which one is true???
did Apple claim or announce anything about these software???
If its true, the softwares can clean your mac, how come all of these apps CANT go to Mac App Store???
IF its true, you guys use what software to run the cleaning process???

Macs do not need "cleaning". Apps such as the ones you mention have the ability to wreck your Mac.
If its true, the softwares can clean your mac, how come all of these apps CANT go to Mac App Store???
Because they are not safe to use.
There are apps in the App Store that suggest the ability or necessity to "clean" memory or unwanted files. They are worthless and are only capable of degrading performance and wasting power. They will also waste your time and your money. Deleting localization files will cause problems and cannot be un-done without reinstalling OS X. Language files use a negligible amount of disk space.
IF its true, you guys use what software to run the cleaning process???
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left my icons stuck on the right side of the desktop. I want to move them but there is no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Suggestions?

A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left me with my icons stuck in the grid on the right side of my desktop. I had the ability to move them and have them stay put in various sectors of the desktop, which I found very useful.  The clean install upgraded the OS to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8. I want to move them again but there I see no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Has the upgrade deleted that option? Suggestions? I am new to this community and if not new to Mac, I often feel that way. This is one of those times.

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.

  • If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes?

    I have two questions...
    1) If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes? (because I don't have them)
    2) Has anyone ever seen anything like this before on their computers?
The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

You don't lose them.  You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.
    "Buy, download, and even redownload.
You can install apps on every Mac you use and even download them again. This is especially convenient when you buy a new Mac and want to load it with apps you already own."

  • Cleaning MacBook Pro screens

Does anyone know if it is safe to use Kensington's Screen Guardian to clean a MacBook Pro screen? The product contains: Water, 2-Butoxyethanol and Ethanol. Also can this cleaner be used on an iMac and a iPod Touch screens. Thanks for your help.

Apple recommends against using any cleaner with alcohol or ammonia to clean any LCD screen. Those chemicals may damage the screen coating. The best way to clean a laptop screen is to use a microfiber wipe (such as those sold to clean eyeglasses) or a damp ( not wet) soft lint-free cloth. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
Butyl cellusolve, a component of Screen Guardian (according to their material safety data sheet), is neurotoxic among other toxicities, by the way, so I'd avoid it even if it weren't risky on LCDs.
    Regards.

  • Cleaning/ clearing out my MacBook for better performance

How can I clean out some of the temporary files and/or cache from my MacBook  2008. I think it could be why it's slow sometimes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check the status of your hard drive. Control click the hard drive icon and select Get Info. On the new pane, the critical numbers are Capacity and Available.
    Empty the trash.
Delete emails you do not want and then go to Mailbox (in the menu bar) / Erase deleted items / In all accounts.
    Safari / Empty cache.
p.s. Under no conditions should you use software that claims it will clean things up... macleaner, mackeeper, macsweeper, what ever it's called, you do not want to use it.

  • ErlyOnyx clean-up of my MacBook OS X10.6.8 says: /System/library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext "not installed prop

An Onyx clean-up of my MacBook OS X10.6.8 says: /System/library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext "not installed properly & cannot be used" .
I can move it to trash, but how do I "properly" reinstall it?  What are the consequences if I don't instal it.  I do not us an ethernet connection on this computer.

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, copy and paste the entire following line into it, and press the Run button:
do shell script "chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" with administrator privileges
If it doesn’t work, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide /System/Library/Extensions/ as the path, throw the AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext item away, and reinstall iTunes.

My iPad screen is extremely damaged, I need to wipe iPad clean but can't see the screen. Can I control iPad settings through my pc/iTunes?

    You can try an alternative.
This is the quickest thing that came to mind, but if you want to wipe it with no care of the data on the device at all:
Place device in recovery mode (turn off device > hold home button + plug in to iTunes (WHILE HOLDING BUTTON)).
iTunes will give you an error saying it detected a device in recovery mode, you need to restore to use device. Restoring device is a factory reset. AKA a wipe of the device

  • Using the optical drive of a MacBook Pro from new iMac for iTunes

Can I connect my macbook pro to my new iMac (no optical drive) with ethernet cable and use the optical drive of the macbook pro to upload CDs to iTunes on the new iMac?

On my 17" MacBook Pro I use the eSata port for Black X Duet Hard Drive Docking station where I put 2 1TB Hitachi internal drives. They are swappable and are about $80.00US. I use the USB port for my system backup and a G-force 500 MB bus powered portable drive on the FW800 port just for the heck of it. It works out really well for me.

  • Can I still use the Optical Drive if I install a SSD in my MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I'm looking to replace the standard hard drive in my MacBook Pro with a 240GB SSD, my question is, does this effect the usage of the DVD/CD Drive? As i've seen in some videos people taking that out and putting the exsisting hard drive there.
I don't want to do that I will turn that in to an extra external hard drive.
Any information would be very welcome.
    Thank you,
    James

Yes you can still use your optical drive just as you do now if you don't remove it.

  • Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal.

  • Using an optical mouse with my s10e

    Hi
I am not able to use any optical mouse with my s10e. Ayn driver available?
    Thank you

Hi, but that didnt solve your problem...
I have a little quest for you, to near the fences around the wild mice ...
Did you use the factory installed XP  ?
    in that case...yes..
in case of no jump to END
Did other usb devices recognized , like flashdrive/external hdd/keyboard ?
have you try it on both ports ?
    if not ...
have you activate /installed Quickstart ?,
    if yes .
. then plug in the usb mouse and
start QS for testing...external mice/keyboard  should be recognized...
    if the answer is yes...
i think its better to set the XP system to fresh factory recover ,
if you answer all upper quest with no your S10e mainboard could be broken , so you have to call for service..
    END
Did you install the system self... ?
    yes
Did you have complete XP with SP3 install ?
    yes
Did you have shrink windows with nlite ?
    yes
Did you install all drivers chipset and so on ..
Did you have yellow signs in the system device manager ?
hope that you find the solution...
