Using ServletContext in JSP

I am trying to use the ServletContext in a JSP from a servlet that has not been accessed yet...is this possible? Or could I just create an instance of it in the jsp to use it...for ex)
MyJSP.jsp...
MyServlet servlet = new servlet();
ServletContext context = MyServlet.getContext();
Thanks,
jesse

gypsy617's right, it's application, not pageYes,thanks Leo, it is 'application indeed, however I took back my statement because I'm not sure that that was the answer that the poster wanted...
Are the JSP and the servlet in the same app context, or do you want to call a servlet in another context ?

  • Initializing JSPs using ServletContext

    Hi
    I have only the reference of a ServletContext object and I want to use this object for compiling a particular JSP file.
    I am trying to use RequestDispatcher's forward and include methods but they require ServletResponse and ServletRequest objects (which I dont have).
    So, is there a way to create dummy ServletResponse and ServletRequest objects ? or Is there any other way I can use ServletContext for this task ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Varun

    Yes, if you forward your request from the servlet to the JSP:
    request.getRequestDispatcher("/path/to/my.jsp").forward(request, response);You can then retrieve the request and response form the JSP's PageContext:
    <%
    ServletRequest request = pageContext.getRequest();
    %>Is this what you mean? Or are you wanting to initialize a JSP through init-params? I can't exactly tell from your question.

  • Associating two events with submit button using  javascript in jsp

    Hi
    How can i Associate two events with submit button using javascript in jsp. Firstly it should insert the data to database and secondly it should close the same pop-up window

    Have something like :
    <input type="submit" name="submitbtn" value="Click me" onClick="function1(); function2(); " />
    You just call both functions sequentially, it's that simple. Although using javascript to work with a database, that seems a bit tricky.

  • Help me!! How to use JavaScript with JSP ??

    I am using JDeveloper and I created a screen in JSP which uses a bean for database connectivity and retriving info onto the page.
    The page has a ListBox where list items are populated from the database.My requirement is
    whenever the list is changed the page shuold be refreshed with the selected item info.
    I tried to use 'JavaScript' for triggering the event with 'onChange' event of the ListBox.But the event is not getting invoked. I think JavaScript is not working with JSP.
    Please help me with how to Use javaScript with JSP or any other alternative where I can meet my requirement.
    I have one more question...I have gone through the JSP samples in OTN and I am trying do download the sample 'Travel servlet' which show list of countries...etc
    I have also gone through the 'readme' but I don't know how to extract .jar file.
    I would be great if you could help me in this.

    We have a similar need. We have used Cold Fusion to display data from Our Oracle Database. We have a simple SElect Box in HTML populated with the oracle data. When someone selects say the State of Pennsylvania. then we have an On change event that runs a Javascript to go get all the cities in Pennsylvania.
    Proble we are having is that inorder for the Javascript to work , we currently have to send all the valid data.
    Do you know of any way to dynamically query the the Oracle database in Javascript

              <%= (t2 - t1) %> ms.</p>
         </body>
    </html>
    please tell me the solution.

    Hi, I don't know if it may be the cuase of your problems, but you should narrow the Object obtained doing the lookup, like this:
    FirstHome home = (FirstHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ctx.lookup("FirstEJB"), FirstHome.class);

  • How to create an InputSelect using ADF and JSP

    I looking for some docs/instructions on creating "an InputSelect using ADF with JSP".
    Thanks,
    BG...

    Ok here are the Steps
    1) Open the JSP editor for the page in Question.
    2) In the Data Control palette select the item that you want to become the poplist and change the "Drop As" poplist to "Single Select List"
    3) Drag the field into the page. You'll get an empty poplist which implements the <html:select> and <html:optionsCollection> tags.
    4) With the JSP editor still open click on the "UI Model" sub-tab in the Structure pane
    5) Select the field you've just dragged in - then right click to get the context menu and choose "edit"
    6) Change the List Binding Mode poplist to "LOV Mode"
    You're then taken into a couple of screens where you can select the Source VO for the poplist, and the destination dataset, along with the thing you want for the Label and the Value.

    Can anyone tell me what shall i do to connect to the database(C:\db1.mdb) through JSP.

    in your code do you have any things that is suppressing your exception?? i.e. something lik
    try
    // do your stuff
    catch(Exception e)
    // do nothing??
    }if so you vont get to know of any problem that happened....
    also if there is an un handled exception the jsp page will sometimes come up as blank, because your print streem will be terminated abrubtly....
    this will probably happen if you dont have a try - catch block at all, or if you are not handling the exception that is being thrown.... try inclosing your code in a try catch block and doing ex.priintStackTrace() in the catch block to get the exception trace on the server console....
    also can you post some code for both your java client and jsp??

  • Using SQLJ from JSP in JDeveloper

    Hello,
    Has anyone succeeded in creating a JSP file by using SQLJ in JDeveloper 3.1 (Build 681)?
    In the whitepaper http://technet.oracle.com/docs/tech/java/servlets/jsp/whitepapers/jsp-oow99-paper.pdf
    it is stated that you can create an SQLJ-JSP by giving the JSP file the .sqljsp extension. This results in an "Fatal error: compiler internal error." in JDeveloper.
    In the same whitepaper, it is stated that you can also use the following JSP page directive to create an SQLJ-JSP page:
    "<%@ page language="sqlj" %>"
    This results in an "Error: (16) illegal character." error in JDeveloper at the mere sight of "#sql".
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to use EL in JSP

    Hi,
    I am trying to use EL in JSP,as EL syntax is ${first.secondvalue},but whenever i write this in my program and i run it,it is showing like this only not the value which it has to show.
    I think that EL is not being enabled in my jsp.
    I write <jsp-property-tag> in web.xml (DD)to enable it,but still it is not being enabled.
    So help me so that I can run EL in my JSP page.

    Google is your friend, so search on Google for Tomcat 6.0 and it will show you were you can get it from.
    Take a look at the Apache Tomcat Version Chart here:
    http://tomcat.apache.org/whichversion.html
    Servlet 2.5/ JSP 2.1 -------------- Tomcat 6.0.10
    Servlet 2.4/ JSP 2.0 -------------- Tomcat 5.5.23
    Since you want Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 which are required for JSTL 1.1, you could get Tomcat 5.5.x , instead of Tomcat 6.0.x
    Although I don't know if Tomcat 6 is backwards compatible with Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 , if it is then it's cool to get Tomcat 6.x
    web.xml - Servlet 2.4 Version
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <web-app version="2.4"
          xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
          xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
          xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd">
    </web-app>-----------------------------------------------------
    web.xml Servlet 2.5 version is different
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" version="2.5">
    </web-app>
