Using SG300 directly as a router?

Hello, I am building a new home with several Cat6 ethernet ports wired throughout (at least one to each room) and I want to connect them all through a rock-solid reliable gigabit switch like the SG300 or SG200.  I am also going to use wireless N (something like the E4200) but I would prefer not to use the wireless device as the router since I want a solid, reliable connection from my ethernet-connected devices and the Internet and I honestly don't trust consumer-level devices like the E4200 to be reliable without dropping my connection.  I have computers that need a constant VPN connection and I have other computers that do bittor...umm, network intensive activity that usually bring wireless routers to their knees
So what I would really like is to connect the internet cable modem (Ubee) directly to the business-class switch (SG300 or SG200), and have that business-class switch do the routing and NAT to my entire network, and I'd just use the E4200 as a wireless access point.  I'm not a network admin and the idea of the CLI scares me, but I can probably use it to at least switch the SG300 to Layer 3 mode...that looks simple enough.  I'd definitely want to use a web GUI for everything else.  From what I've read, the SG200 is a Layer 2 device so it couldn't be used as a router, but can the SG300 in Layer 3 be used as a router connected directly to the cable modem?  Will it support NAT and UPnP and all of the other features that the E4200 would (minus the wireless of course)?  For example one thing I will want is to be able to have multiple XBoxes connected to the switch all with an "Open NAT".
If the SG300 can't do this, what's the best rock-solid business class device that I can connect directly to the cable modem that will support things like UPnP and NAT?
Thanks everyone in advance for their advice!

  • How do I use AO update in the Route signal.vi

    Hi support,
My goal is to create a waveform (to buffer it) and output it using the analog card (PCI-6713) N times and with the frequency F. Apperanlty this is done using a (actually 2) digital counter(s) on the PCI-6602 card.
This is done using route signal.vi using "AO update". However I have not managed to get it working. I only get error -10341. So my questions are how do I do it? More specificly how do I use AO update in the Route singal.vi Do I need to conect the cards in any perticular way (cabels or so)? Also do you have more information about how the vi route signal works (the help file does not help me much)?
    Grateful for all help.
I'm using labview 6.0 as developpement platform, and using the PCI-6601, PCI-67
13 and a PCI-7344 cards. Since the program is quite large I will only send a portion of it, the pulseGen is supposed to generate the waveform (loaded as a text file, also submitted) the digital output used is in case 1 (in pulseGen) the analog output is in case 3. The MissingWaveform.vi is just to ensure that a waveform is supplied to the pulseGen.vi
    Sorry about the mess.

Cabling and Interfacing between Boards: You have capability for direct simultaneous connection between 6713 and 6602 (also 6601) via the RTSI bus, but you need to get a cable to connect between the boards. You can connect between the boards using the I/O pins of their respective signal conditioning hardware. These connections are slower. There are also PFI (Programmable Function Interfaces) connections that are set within the VI's.
All that said, it is not obvious why you want to use the RTSI. You can use the PCI-6713 to generate AO. Presumably you have some signal conditioning accessory; which ever pin of that accessory the AO appears on, you wire it over to the SC accessory for the 6601 and the appropriate pin for the counter gate or
    source you want to use.
Suggestions: Don't try to work in the context of your big VI for now. Get the AO bit and the counting bit to work together by themselves. Then shoe-horn them into the big VI. Also, consider a call to the NI help line. They are very good. 800.433.3488 (800IEEE488)
In case you hadn't noticed the DAQ cards and Counter/Timer cards come in different flavors and there are specific example VI's to suit. 6602 uses NI-TIO chip, but PCI-671X are DAQ-STC. Again the NI help people are good at catching this kind of stuff.
Your question is rather large and hard to manage. Perhaps if you break it down into small chunks the advise will be more free flowing.

  • How do I limit access of a computer that is plugged directly into the router?

I have an AirPort Extreme, Version 7.6.1  I need to limit access of a computer that's plugged by usb directly into the router.  I have the MAC address for this computer and have had restrictions on it the in the past, but it was connected by WiFi then.  How do I do this?  Do I limit access to the Ethernet ID?  I don't want to lock myself out trying to figure it out; I did that last night.  Can someone advise please.

You could use OpenDNS's parental controls:
    http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls
It can restrict access according to your specifications for everyone on your network.
    It's free.

  • Can CRM 2015 Online use the CRM 2013 Email Router?

We are trying to plan our upgrade to CRM 2015 Online from CRM 2013 Online. We currently use the CRM 2013 Email Router and want to know if we need to upgrade the email router immediately after the CRM server is upgraded or if we could wait a short period
of time. I searched but could not find any information on the Email Router compatibility. Does anyone have any information?

Why are you using the email router if your Exchange Server is also Online?  Dynamics CRM Online has Server Sync built in so it will directly communicate to Exchange Online.  Much better solution than rolling up an email Router.
Also, if you don't have access to the Exchange server, I' doubt there's much you can do, since you don't have all the tools you need to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Can't make direct connection to router

I cannot connect to Internet. The cable Internet router was connected to my Airport Extreme, but connection kept going down. Service guy tested all lines and put in new router with latest firmware. He then bypassed Airport extreme and made direct connection of router to IMac for testing. It worked for about an hour, then connection lost again (link light on router is down-Internet connection tested on IMac, but no connection detected). Put in new Ethernet cable, but no difference. Service guy uses MACS so tested my connection software and settings, but seems okay. Argh! I plug in PC laptop and connection with modem is fine. Service person said he has seen this before, IMac onboard card (ethernet) has failed.
Is this possible? have rebooted, tried diagnostics cd, unplugged/plugged all cables, etc. IMac 2 yrs. old. How is this fixed & is it costly? Thanks.

With Apple Care extended warranty it would be covered. I believe that the Ethernet port is on the logic board so that may need to be replaced. A new logic board is easily US$600.00.
But your explanation is a bit hazy. First the wireless connection had issues and now the Ethernet has issues?

  • New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS.  FiOS does not use modems.  Your cable modem is useless with FiOS.  Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers.  The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet.  The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports.  If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet.  For slower speeds, coax is the default.  Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work.  Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay.  If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time.  You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models.  The Verizon routers are good devices for most users.  People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down.  You can't run any other router firmware on them.  WiFi range is decent, but not great.  I'm quite happy with my Quantum router.  YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want.  However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router.  They won't even mention it as an option.  That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service.  If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one.  If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues.  This will allow you to call their support. This FAQ is very helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 Good Luck.

  • I just bought a new iMac and I am using a apple air port router.  How do I connect mt windows PC to the air port router do I can move files

I Just purchased a 21.5 iMac and connected it to the Internet using a apple air port router.  How do I connect my windows PC to my air port router so I can transfer files.

It makes life easier to install the airport utility for windows.. which has a couple of different apps in it.. if you airport is new type then the utility is too old.. but is still valuable for Bonjour which provides network information for shared devices in the apple world to windows.. and a disk access agent..
It will also help the Apple computer access shared directory in the windows computer.. nowadays this is pretty easy.

  • Using D-Link DI-624 Router for "G" Wireless Purposes

I want to use an old D-link router in another part of the house to provide wireless "G" connectivity to my older devices, so I can use 5 GHz band for "N" connectivity exclusively via my Airport Extreme (Older version, not Gigabit).
I go upstairs, plug the D-Links WAN port to the jack that connects to one of the Airport Extreme's LAN ports downstairs. I shut off dhcp server on the D-Link. I turn on the D-link's wireless capability (unencrypted for now, just for testing).
When I plug a computer in to one of the LAN jacks of the D-Link, I have full connectivity to the internet. And I see the wireless signal from the D-Link which has a unique SSID. Unfortunately, while I can connect to the D-Link wirelessly, I cannot get to the internet.
I'm sure I have something configured wrong.
    Questions:
    1. I have the Airport Extreme set to hand out ip addresses in the 10. range. Should I set up the D-Link router to get a static IP address from the Airport Extreme? How do I do that. Some sites suggest a 10 series IP address, but outside the range of the DHCP addresses that the Airport Extreme usually hands out.
    2. Any ideas on configuring the DI-624? I've shut off DHCP server (everyone says to do that). But Are there any other settings?
    3. Some tech help sites suggest not using the WAN Port at all on the D-link, but rather, connect to one of the LAN ports. Does this make any sense? Going from one of the LAN ports on the Airport Extreme to one of the D-Link's LAN ports.
    4. Once I get the wireless G network running, I'll fix the encryption.
I think that in order to answer this question you'll need some first hand knowledge of the DI-624. Unfortunately, the DI-624 is now a discontinued product and there is little information available on D-link's web site.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    kenny

If a Mac plugged into a LAN port on the D-Link gets internet access, the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and D-Link are both configured properly.
The wireless side of the D-Link should also be acting properly since LAN access is working.
The most likely problem is that your Mac has incorrect DNS information in the System Preferences->Network preference pane->AirPort area.

  • Business partner migration using lsmw direct load .

    Hi,
We need to do business partner migration using the direct load method.
We are thinking of using direct input method of lsmw for the data transfer.
Could someone suggest a proper object/ subobject for the same.
Alternatively has anyone done the same using LSMWbapi or LSMWidocs.
Inputs will be highly appreciated <<text removed>>

Does this solution give any way to update the customer fields too ?
We have few customer fields added to BUT tables ... How can we update these fields using LSMW and IDOC ?
Could you please give your opinion on thesame.

I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • How to use the direct bytebuffer in JNI? Accessing JDBC from C application.

I am working on a project to access JDBC Driver within C application. The invocation JNI is used.
To get better performance, I use the preparedStatement for dynamic sql. This need to transfer much parameter data from C to JDBC for PreparedStatement object in JVM. I think this maybe get improvements by using the new direct bytebuffer function from JDK1.4. However I cannot find an example code to get start. Could someone provide some ideas for this?
Currently, I directly call JDBC API in C application through JNI, so there is no java codes. Only c file using JNI call.
My understanding is to use the direct bytebuffer feature, I also need to have java codes to process the JDBC API call and then can share the same memory between Java and C. Please correct me if wrong.
    Any input is appreciated.

I am trying to get the best performance for the solution, using JDBC libs in a C application. So I am considering to use the direct bytebuffer in the solution to pass parameters to JDBC and get result sets from JDBC side.
    For your questions,
    1. Why don't you just write the database access in C?
You mean to directly call JDBC API in C through JNI, right? My plan is to wrap the JDBC API by java and expose seldom interface to C native code, so reduce the JNI call between C and JAVA. If directly call the JDBC API call from C, the number of JNI call maybe more.
No I mean what I said. In C, no java at all, why don't you write code to access the database?
    2. The database access itself is going to be slower than anything that you do in C or java.
Exactly. I just want to find each potential points to get performance improvements for the whole solution. I also did some optimization work for the database call. The goal is to get the best performance from C application to database through JDBC libs.
Then I suggest you profile it.
    3. Why don't you use import/export files and the database tools? This is often significantly faster with volume processing.
Sorry, I am not very familar with some functions of JNI. Could you explain, " +Why don't you use import/export files and the database tools+"?
Nothing to do with java, jni nor C.
Major (or perhaps everything that is a real 'database') comes with additional tools. Amounst those tools will be command line tools capable of importing and exporting data from the database. In processing bulk data they will always be faster than anything you can do in JDBC.

Help.I uninstalled ios8 using the directions on the web site and now all my apps, mail are gone.I backed up to iTunes first but when I try to sync to get everything back,it starts and then says it has failed. What do I do now.Thanks.Jane

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • Using macbook as a wireless router for non-apple devices

im trying to use my mac as wireless router for my xbox. i went into share under system preferences, and made a network with a WEP password. I can see the network on my xbox but it requires an IP adress...
i guess what im really asking is, if the mac can automatically assign IP adresses to devices on the network

I use my MBP regularly to share internet connection with PCs. Usually the PCs do a 'search' for a network and then 'connect' to the network name set in the Airport options... drop down panel. They get the IP automatically.
In the system preferences>share> there is a button on the right bottom which says 'airport options..' and in the drop down panel, you set the name or SSID and the WEP key.
Maybe you should check XBOX settings if the network settings are manual or automatic?
    Hope that helps.
