Using shapes

I have a Numbers file that has several sheets, some sheets having multiple tables. Each table has at the upper left corner 2 lines of text that serve pretty much as a letter head. The upper line is the name of the owner of the document and the 2nd line is the year. For any given copy of this file, the letter must be identical on all tables. Since I want to stay the **** away from merged cells, because they are a nightmare, I am thinking of using textboxes (or shapes objects) instead. Is there a way to set up multiple shape objects such that when any one is editted, the changes are cascaded to all the others?
Perhaps not, but it is worth a try.

Instead of using shapes or text boxes for this letter head, could you use a small, two cell, table? That way you could have formulas that refer to master values or otherwise computed text and get the cascading behavior you desire.

I have drawn some maps in pages using shapes and arrows. When I delete a shape a little grey dot appears that cannot be deleted. Any ideas?

I am using shapes and arrows to create concept maps in Pages. After saving the document I have opened it again and tried to make changes.
When I delete an arrow or shape a grey "Do not" sign pops up. It cannot be highlighted or deleted. My map now looks like it has grey measles.
Any idea what is happening?

Select all the objects that you want in your map.
Menu > Arrange > Group
Copy, then Paste into a new blank page.

Quick tip help. How to add to vector layers using shape tool

This is something that's bugged me for a few versions and I'm sure someone has a tip for this.
When I use Shape Layer tool, I get a solid color with a vector mask. The tool always makes a new layer every time I use the tool. So to get around that, I draw my shapes (one per layer) and then use the Path Selection Tool and cut and paste between Shape Layer layers.
How can I draw another shape on a currently selected Vector Mask? (I want to build compound Pathfinder-like shapes)

Yes, press the shift key to add to the current shape layer (vector mask).

Text converted to graphics when using shapes from iWork

I'm in the process of constructing a web site and want to have a site directory along the right side of each page. I started off using square text boxes and making room for the directory by using iWeb's text wrap, adding an inline transparent square to a conveniently located paragraph and resizing it as necessary. However, I found that sometimes depending on which object was selected when I uploaded the site the square seemed to cover up my link box - possibly even when it was sent to the back.
Then I learned that I could use shapes from Pages and edit them in iWeb, so I created a polygon with an opening for the site directory, and used it for my text box on each page. That worked great in that the directory was no longer behind the text box. However when I uploaded the web site, I eventually realized that my text boxes were all converted to graphics.
As a test I created a page identical to an existing page with a square used as a text box, and it reverts to being text.

A couple questions:
1. Does this mean that shapes created using the drawing tool in Pages that are made editable and then modified in iWeb will always produce graphics when used as text boxes? Is there any way around this?
2. Is the same a problem if shapes are created in other programs (e.g. Illustrator)?
3. Is there any other way I haven't thought of to create the same basic design which would preserve the text boxes as text?

You know, I think it's possible to put a textbox
inside another text box......and in that fashion
still be able to wrap text in the main text box
around the interior text box. However, I am not sure
whether that will necessarily make all the text
converted into an image.
I tried that with interesting results. I couldn't resize the text box except through the Inspector for some reason. Once I pasted in the text, the box moved down below the site directory box to where there was room for a full-width text box; so it didn't accomplish the purpose.
About using iWeb's built-in text-wrap through adding an inline graphic:
This would work too...just make sure to select your
text box and click on the "Backward" button in order
to make sure that your main text box with the
transparent "placeholder" image is behind your
directory box that you want displayed. The same
thing can be achieved by selecting your directory box
and clicking "forward" so that it becomes the
frontmost element.
That makes sense. I tried that originally; maybe I wasn't careful about sending things to the front/back. The biggest problem is that if paragraphs don't line up with the site directory box, or if I edit text on the page, the text doesn't wrap very neatly around where I want it to. Otherwise this would be a good solution. I may end up doing this unless a better idea materializes, if such is even possible ...
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be interested to see if any better ideas appear; if none do in the next couple days I may just declare the problem solved as well as possible until iWeb 2.0 appears.

Dark path's edges after using shape builder tool or masking objects

hi,
i have a problem with path edges after using shape builder tool or masking objects. This problem occurs when i draw bright colored objects above dark colored object. After that i have dark path's edges. Like this: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2051/dlm2.jpg
I have one solution (pathfinder->dive objects and delete some dark elements on the bottom) but maybe someone know another solution for this problem?

Unfortunately, I don't have opportunity to print it, but as you wrote, it must be a screen artifact. I exported this file to tiff, then i opened it in photoshop. Everything is ok. All of the edges are clear.

Using shape detection on live video

Hi everyone!
I am trying to detect circles on my video extracted from USB webcams.
Therefore, I was thinking if it is possible to use shape detection on videos.
From what I have found, it seems that shape detection can only be done on images.
If it is possible, how do I go about doing it?

It's not too dificult, but you need the Vision Development Module to do Shape Recognition. If you have that, then you need to use IMAQdx (driver) to communicate with your USB camera. You can grab frames in the LabVIEW image format that way, and then process them as needed.

How do I use shapes I create in Adobe Shape?

All the shapes you create with Adobe Shape are stored in a CC Library. This means you can access them in other desktop, mobile, and web apps. Detailed instructions below.
How to access your shapes in Creative Cloud
Desktop: In order for this to work, you must have the most recent version of Illustrator and Photoshop.
Open Adobe Illustrator on your desktop.
Open the Libraries panel (Windows > Libraries)
Your shapes should be present in your Libraries. If you don’t see them there, select the libraries drop down to see if you saved your shapes in a different library.
Now, you can drag the shape onto your canvas.
At this point, you can continue working with your shape, by adding editing. Or, you can simply save the file. Of course, after you save it to your desktop, you can email, post online, etc.
Mobile apps:
Open Adobe Illustrator Draw and open a drawing.
Tap the Shapes icon to open the Shapes menu.
Tap a library name to view the shapes in the Creative Cloud Library. Tap Change Library to select another library.
Select your shape by tapping on it.
Active Slide or Tocuh Slide. You can use Adobe Slide or Touch Slide to place the shape on the canvas. Access Touch Slide by tapping on the circular icon at the top of the menu bar.
Place the shape. Once you have activated Touch Slide, you will see a light rendition of your shape on the canvas. Simply double tap on the shape outline to stamp the shape in place.

Can't use Shape Builder Tool - getting circle with line through it.

I can't find any setting or anything I can change to make the Shape Builder Tool work. Using latest version.

Without more info, it can only be a guess, but be aware that the tool only works on selected objects. PRE-selected, that is.

Using shapes for the background?!

Hello everyone! This is my first website with muse. I do love this program just ran into a few issue, first problem is im using a white shape to put my content on and while this works it now has allowed you to scroll right to see the whole shape. The left side stays hidden and is only veiwable when stretching out the website, I would love to have the right side to the same. Any ideas?? Also that damn footer how do i get rid of it?

Make sure you Snap these rectangles to the browser boundaries so that it gets stretched to the whole Browser Window.

Disable auto-scroll when using shape tool in full screen

I have a task that requires tracing in full screen mode on an image that is exactly the same size and resolution as the screen. Unfortunately when I draw shapes near the edges the screen scrolls even though there is nothing more to show. This makes me have to move the screen back into alignment over and over, or settle on using paint tools only near the edges.
Does anyone know how to turn off this "feature"?

i am trying this tut, but i can't do part 2 step9.
First i can't do "shape builder tool" while select both the under shape and the cap.
Second if i create another shape then do the "shape builder tool", the left cap is another "boated polygon" as the picture i attached. I guess the boat effect applied to the new polygon shape again.
How can i avoid this automatical-shape-change thing?
ALSO, i tried on other shapes too. I use effects on one shape, then i cut or delete part of it, i can't get the rest shape as i wished. Coz the rest part got the effect again and became a new one. For example i can't get a half flower when i use boat effect on a polygon shape, coz the rest half just became a new strange flower.
Is there anything i did wrong????

The problem is not what you did wrong, but that the instructions are incomplete, a common problem with online tutorials.
After applying the Bloat effect, go to Object > Expand appearance. Then you can select the two shapes and delete the unwanted part with the Shape Builder Tool. Select the new cap shape, duplicate, recolor, scale, move. Select both cap shapes, create blend as I think you did earlier in the tutorial.

Is it possible to get out the rotation angle between template and shape using shape matching.vi?

I want to determine the orientation of a particle shape.
Using pattern matching is influenced by the texture of the particle.
Shape matching would be the right but I don't see a possibility to get the rotation angle of the found shape and template respectively.
Any idea?

You could try using particle analysis to give you the particle orientation. There is an example of this that ships with the Vision toolkit. Go to the Vision examples and look under Funtions>Binary Analysis and it is called Particle Orientation Example.

FILLING an area without using SHAPE class

I am trying to implement the fill operation in a drawing application.
but I am not using the SHAPE class and also I do not know the co-ordinates.
I have just a very faint idea of implementing it, but am not able to path myself out.
If any appropriate method strikes to any of being, please pass on that to me kindly.

I think doing the fill operation in the paint() method is a very bad idea... how will yoou keep track of the fill action for the next time the paint() wil be called ?
In fact, you have two solutions:
1) Keep track in an array (or vectors or array list) of every object you create in your drawing tool. For example:
Object 1: Rectangle, bounds=[10,5,100,200], color=blue, fill=false
Object 2: Circle, bounds=[80,45,30,30], color=red, fill=false
Object 3: Shape, bounds=[10,5,50,60], color=green, fill=true
In this case, your paint() method only has to loop thru the objects and do the paintings accordingly.
2) Only keep track of the graphic area. The paint() method first has to recover the previous graphic area, then do the new paint action, and finally backup the graphic area. For example:
   // Call the superclass painting
   super.paintComponent(g);
   // Paint the previous graphic area
   if (oldGraphics != null) g.drawImage(previousGraphics);
   // Paint the new object
   doPaintAction(g);
   // backup the graphic area
   // NOTE: You'll have to find a way to get an image
   // of the graphic area!

If you're trying to use 'slide' tool with template shape patterns, you may want to try Adobe Line?

Adobe Shape= captures images and converts to vector
