Using "shuffle" on a Nano

Is it possible to exclude some tracks from the "shuffle" feature on a Nano please? I was told this was possible in the Apple store but when I was unable to do it I phoned Apple support and they told me it was not possible. Any assistance would be gratefully received.

sort of. you can try shufling within specific playlists on the ipod.
create a playlist containing only the songs you want to hear during a shuffle.
then, on the iPod, go into the "Settings" menu, and switch the Shuffle control within there to "Songs".
now head into the playlist with just the songs the want to shuffle, and start playing. the nano will now shuffle within that playlist.
(that's how i do this on green eyes.)

  • Using shuffle on iPod nano

When I use the shuffle option on my iPod my audiobooks also get shuffled. I think they are not being recognized properly. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I would like to just shuffle my songs. I have them in their own playlist and the audiobooks are also in their own playlists.

So are you wanting to shuffle a playlist(s) of songs as opposed to all the songs on your iPod which are not contained in playlists?
If so, navigate to Settings > Shuffle on your iPod. Switch this option to "Songs".
Next, go to Music > Playlists. Scroll your clickwheel where it is highlighting the playlist that you want to play. Do not click the Select (center) button now, but simply highlight the playlist of songs you want to shuffle.
Then, press the Play/Pause button on your iPod, and that playlist should begin to shuffle.
Is that what you meant? Anyways, I hope that works for you.

  • I cannot turn off shuffle on my nano 6th generation.  every play list is on shuffle and I am about to stomp on it!

I cannot turn off shuffle on my nano 6th generation.  Every playlist is on shuffle. Have reset, have tried everything. Help?

It needs to be dried out. Stop using it.. don't turn it on. Put it in a zip lock bag with some rice or one of those packets of dessicant for a day or two. That might do it.

  • 2 ipod shuffles + 1 ipod nano ON ONE PC

We started with using 1 shuffle on the fam pc but when we added the 2nd, my daughters told me that it messed both of their music lists up. We really didn't resolve this issue; we ended up using 2 separate PCs. Now my son has a shuffle and I need to know how I can (safely) use 2 shuffles and 1 nano on 1 PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Changing from a shuffle to a Nano

Yesterday I switched from a Shuffle to a Nano. I removed Itunes and all related info from the shuffle and downloaded new software that was included with the Nano, basically I started from scratch. For some reason when I buy a song from iTunes, it won't let me download to my Nano (my Nano was already connected to my computer). What gives?

Thanks for your input. I am fairly new at this iPod stuff, but I like to think I am pretty computer literate. When I "re-downloaded" the software, the songs I previously purchased did download into my nano. Amazingly, Apple still recognized my profile, etc. After I let the nano sync, I purchased a song and I could not "drag" it from my library or puchased area into the nano. Should I do the same thing you mentioned about deautorizing?

  • Using Shuffle for classical music

Am a new IPOD user and am looking for guidance on how to use "shuffle" with classical music .. specifically am looking for a way to have multiple tracks that make up one piece of music be treated as a "song" .. it would appear from what I have seen that shuffle will play a movement of a piece only (plays one track) .. Album is an option but would like a finer granularity if possible .. all suggestions appreciated

Thank you for resonding.  We were told at Best Buy all we would need is GarageBand.  So - I appreciate your honesty that this appears to be not what we need.
The situation is as follows.  My husband will teach in Aspen, CO this summer to Elderhostel people.  Back in the days of drop the needle this was easy.   But now - everything is digital.  And, so he has been downloading music to ITunes.  He wants to go to a section of a piece of music (say - within the 2nd movement and play where the "horns" come in.  And, then go to another section within the 2nd movement to show the change in tempo and "feeling".  And, be able to play that.  And, he can't take the time of "fast forwarding" and hoping he stops at the right place.   Once he has set these up - probably  40 to 50 start and stops for 6 lectures - then he would transfer everything over to IPAD.
We will purchase one -as we have wanted something small and portiable which has wifi.So we can access our emails and the WWW.
Does any of this make sense now?  Is there  MAC AP which would do what we are looking for.   This is what Best Buy kid said we/he could do.
I do appreciate your respondingto me.
    Thanks,
    Ann

In order to run iTunes 10 you need OSX 10.5 or greater.  You will have to upgrade your operating system, if that is possible.   What you can do to upgrade will depend upon your computer and software you run.  To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number.

  • I have a 1st gen shuffle and a nano that I would like to use with a new computer. What do I need to do?

I have a first gen iPod Shuffle with its software installed on a Windows XP computer. I installed the software for an iPod Nano, and was then unable to access my music library with the Shuffle. This is not my main issue that my question is about. I would like to be able to use both of these devices on a new Windows7 computer. What, exactly, do I need to do? (ie - deauthorize my old computer, uninstall or install/reinstall iTunes, etc.) Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

"Do I need to deauthorize my old computer first?"
Not unless you want to.  You can have up to 5 computers authorized.
" And should I install the Nano's iTunes software, since it is newer than the Shuffle's, before syncing?"
Itunes is itunes.  I don't know what you mean by "Nano's iTunes software".  You need to install itunes.
"Or, should I just download the most current iTunes software, and then plug in both devices and sync?"
    Yes.
    Hope all goes smoothly.

  • AAC encoding, using Shuffle-saved iTunes for a Nano, file fidelity question

Love the little shuffle but don't understand possible limitations. I only have a Shuffle but may add a Nano. I'm trying to understand file encoding, decoding, etc..
When I upload a CD into iTunes (iTunes having been loaded upon initial Shuffle set-up) are the files automatically encoded as AAC files or are they saved in iTunes as the full-sized files (I don't recall the correct encoding for full CD-quality fidelity), or are they saved already encoded as AAC files?
While the fidelity of the AAC file is acceptable for in the noisy car or while running/skiing I would like to know whether adding a Nano to my quiver would allow me to utilize the 1000+ CD's I've already uploaded into iTunes, and whether the files in my current iTunes would load into the Nano as the higher-fidelity files. I would like to use the Nano to play tunes through my high-end stereo system and realize CD-like fidelity, not compromised AAC-level fidelity. Anyone familiar with all this? I would appreciate any help.

Probably currrently set for 128kbps AAC... go to Preferences>Advanced>Importing
where you can set the encoder to be whatever you want as well as the bitrate.

That's dependent on how they were imported...(see above)

You can keep your music in the library as AIFF or Apple Lossless and
set iTunes to convert the higher rate files to 128kps AAC on loading to the shuffle.

  • How do I turn off the tiny Shuffle-sized iPod Nano (v6 with a touch screen) when not using its iOS?

    Hello and happy new year.
I decided to use this used iPod Nano (touch screen) as an eight/8 GB flash disk/storage (FAT32). I can access the files just fine. I can always restore it back to use iOS quickly and easily if needed.
However, it never seems to turn off/sleep. I tried holding down the big button on top right (next to the two volume controls [+ and -]), but it never does anything. Also, it says "OK to disconnect." when disconnected.
So, I restored its iOS v1.2 from an old 15" MacBook Pro (2008; Mac OS X 10.5.8) onto it and can turn off easily. However, I cannot access its drive since it is not a MS FS and Windows XP Pro. SP3 asked me to format. How can I turn it off and still use it as an 8 GB USB flash disk/drive without installing and using iTunes?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hey,
Holding in the play/pause and the menu (select) button will force the iPod into disk mode. This is the stand by mode you are talking about.
To turn your iPod off properly you will want to hold down the play/pause button until the screen goes blank and then turn the hold switch on. This is cause the iPod to go to the Apple screen when it turns back on.
    Hope this helps,
    Ms D.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?

Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.
