Using "Signal" to control iTunes Remotely

Hi all,
The new 802.11n Airport Express has got me thinking about streaming my iTunes library to my living-room stereo and using my iPhone as an iTunes "remote control." I see there's a program called "Signal" that enables this http://www.alloysoft.com
Has anyone used this program? Any thoughts? Any security concerns? Is it crap or does it work as advertised? Also, it's 25 bucks, which is a bit steep. Is there a comparable program that will do it for less?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chip

Helen,
Look on this website for instructions. I read one place on the web that LR 3.5 (but no earlier version) supports your camera for tethering, but the Adobe site doesn't show it in the list, so it might not work for you.
Make sure your camera is in P2P mode, not Mass Storage. Go to File/Tethered Capture/Start Tethered Capture.

  • Controlling iTunes remotely

I can without issue control my Powerbook from my Macbook via Desktop Sharing.
But all I need is to control iTunes - that's it, for that Desktop Sharing is a bit overkill and very slow.
I've tried a few apps but none seem to work. The Macbook runs 1.5 and the Powerbook 1.4.
I realize that Apple probably removed all possibility of doing this when Airtunes thingy was released, but please, for the love of god, I just need thato one thing to work and it seems a simple enough task. I'm not buying airtunes when I have a perfectly working wireless network.
To ease the understanding I've made a nifty diagram explaining what I want to do.

I'd like to do exactly the same thing. Airtunes has been buggy, at best. As a result, I've connected my old iBook directly to the stereo. VNC is kind of slow to use as a remote control.

  • Using Lightroom to control camera remotely

    Hello:
I want to setup my camera, Nikon D5100, for pole aerial photography.  I want to have the ability to connect my laptop to the camera up on the pole so I can adjust zoom, etc.
Can I achieve this with Lightroom?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Controlling iTunes from within Keynote 2?

Is it possible to control iTunes from within Keynote, when I'm using the presentation tools? I haven't been able to make it work, and it is an essential part of being able to use Keynote in my lectures. It would be nice to switch from Powerpoint.
Right now, I'm using Synergy to control iTunes, and PPT lets me do it, but control keys/functions seem to be locked out in Keynote. Am I missing something?
    Thanks for any help,
    Geoff

Games often hardwire their keyboard functions into the code which means you can't change them, and they override your own settings.
The best option I can suggest is playing Urban Terror from a new user account on your Mac, in which you remove all Dashboard widgets and add the iTunes widget. A quick click of your mouse scroll wheel while playing Urban Terror will bring up Dashboard (you may have to set this in advance) and while that is not quite "ingame" it is as near as you will get... unless someone else has a better idea.
(I am assuming that you don't want to use Command-tab to switch to iTunes itself while you are playing?)

  • Using apple remote to control iTunes volume

This must have been covered before. I searched through 12 pages and couldn't find the answer. I simply want to be able to control the iTunes volume with my white apple remote. Presently it will only control system volume and I'm going out to a different device where system volume has no effect.
This is for Snow Leopard. Appreciate the help.

I too play iTunes to remote speakers (airplay express, apple TV, IOS devices running Speakers app.)  The volume buttons on my Macbook Air control the laptop speakers but won't control the iTunes application volume when playing Airplay.  Going to iTunes to click on a slider is frustrating when there are volume buttons on the laptop.
Another App solution is Airfoil from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
There is a cost and I don't have a free Apple/Mac solution.  But with Airfoil, you can link the volume bottons to Airplay volume.  This is really a preference that iTunes should inherently provide.  But with Airfoil, I can push any audio app (Pandora, Spotify, browser audio, and even iTunes) to any number of speakers both Airplay and computer.  And Airfoil will link the volume buttons to the audio output on any of the speakers selected.  I no longer use the Airplay option from within iTunes but use Airfoil to push iTunes whereever I want and properly control volume.
Hope this helps.  Sorry it is a third party pay app as the solution when Apple could just incorporate this simple request.

  • A lost my remote control for apple tv. I want to use my phone as a remote but the applications can' pair with the Apple TV device , how can I pair them without remote?

A lost my remote control for apple tv. I want to use my phone as a remote but the applications can' pair with the Apple TV device , how can I pair them without remote?

    Setup for remote app: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1947
    Specifically:
Set up Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation)
On Apple TV, select Settings from the main menu.
Select General > Remotes > Remote App. If Home Sharing isn't set up on your Apple TV, you should turn it on.
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) uses Home Sharing to stream content from your iTunes library on your computer to your HDTV.  If  you connect your Apple TV to your iTunes library using  Home  Sharing, you can use Remote to browse and play content from any  iTunes library in the Computers   section of your Apple TV. You can also  use Remote to select  between available speakers to enhance  your  audio and video experience.

  • How can I use my Iphone as a remote control?

How can I use my Iphone 6 as a remote control?

If you are referring to an Apple TV or iTunes remote control then download the "Remote" app from the app store.
If you are referring to a remote control for your TV, Cable box, DVD Player etc then you cannot use your iPhone as a remote for these things unless they are wifi connected and have a remote control app on the app store.

  • HT201272 Remote app to control iTunes no longer works

I use Remote app on all of my devices to control iTunes. I had to restore three iPods and now the Remote app cannot be installed from iTunes or the App Store. The error message says I need iOS 4.3. How do I find this software? iTunes says my iPods are up to date. The Remote App worked fine before with the existing software.

After digging around more, I was able to do what I was looking to do.  I installed iTunes on the machine downstairs, activated hom sharing.  Then used the Remote app on my phone, connected to iTunes downstairs, then went to "more" within the app... Then selected "shared", connected to the library upstaris... and Boom, its worked!

  • HT1947 I can't seem to get my earphones to work on my iPad mini whe using iTunes remote. I can stream to any Airplay capable system perfectly. Just want to be able to listen to headphones iTunes "wirelessly"

I can stream to any Airplay capable system perfectlyvia Remote and control iTunes on my iMac as advertised.
Just want to be able to listen to iTunes on my iPad "wirelessly"

    Yay!
I discovered this lovely little forum entry that solved my problem!
(Remember this is for Windows, I'm not sure if the same will work for Mac)
    This is what you do:
1: Have iTunes up and plug in your iPod.
2: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down until the iPod shuts down.
3: When the screen is blank, release the Sleep/Wake and just hold the Home button down for about 15 seconds.
4: After then, iTunes will recognize an I iPod in Recovery Mode.
5: That's when iTunes will ask you to Update/Restore your iPod.
I'm pretty sure those are the steps.
(If anything is wrong, can someone fix it, please?)
    But that really does work.
The writer said that his iPod was "stuck on the apple screen, and not going anywhere after that."
That was my issue, so hopefully this will work for you!

  • I cannot get the remote application to control iTunes On a Windows Seven Dell Notebook computer

    Hey I need some help.
I cannot get Apple's Remote application to take control of iTunes on a Dell laptop computer.
It says to go to the Edit menu in iTunes On your computer, click on preferences & then click on devices & make sure there is a tick in the box that says look for a remote, but when you go to this Menu, There is nothing that says look for a Remote.  I cannot get my iPad third generation 64GB 3G+WiFi, iPhone five, or iPod touch fifth generation To control iTunes on a Apple TV Second generation Using Apple's remote application. I have checked everything to make sure the software is up-to-date.  I can get it to control  Apple TV fine, but it will not Take control of iTunes.
I have gone through the Pairing process but it still Will not work.  I've installed iTunes twice & checked the Firewall to confirm it is not blocking bonjour OR any other Apple software.   I have even tried completely disabling the firewall. It was perfectly fine last week,  then my friend got his house broken into & he asked me to go onto iCloud.com to try & locate his iPad,  ever since then, it has completely stopped working.  If anybody can help, it will be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    That is correct.
The Sync process is via iTunes...

  • Apple remote always controls itunes / frontrow

I just installed Snow Leopard and came to the conclusion that the 'Apple Remote' always controls itunes/frontrow/audio +/-. This is really annoying since I want to control thirdparty software like Plex Media center.
Is there a way to disable the remote for itunes and the audio? I already uninstalled frontrow, but that didn't help.

In order to control third-party software, you need third-party software! Check out Remote Buddy. This program allows you to configure your Apple Remote to work with other applications. Download the trial and see if it works for you. (Note: I haven't used this application, I just happen to know it exists.)

  • ITunes Music Locations - controlling workstations remotely via script?

I do storage administration at a company with over 2000 users scattered across the globe. Predictably, at least have use iTunes. We redirect the "My Documents" folder to a network location to force the backup of critical project data. This creates a huge problem for us. iTunes defaults to using the My Music folder in My Documents. This means we are storing and backing up at least 1TB of music.
I have found that iTunes stores its configuration in xml files in the application data directory in the user profile. I cannot readily figure out where in this file the location is recorded.
Has anyone confronted this problem, and if so, is there a way to control iTunes installs remotely to set the music folder location, via script, GPO or anything at all?

The library location is indeed stored in the iTunesPrefs.xml file. Look for the key "iTunes Library Location:1".
But I have a script that almost does what you want. Here is the perl source:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/itunesopenlibrary.txt
Here is a compiled EXE for it:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/itunesopenlibrary.zip
Anyway, the script basically works by setting the library location to a path that you pass to it. It does so by updating the iTunesPrefs.xml file. This file is very small, so you shouldn't need to worry about it!
Of course, the script only works if the iTunesPrefs.xml file already exists. It would be nice if you could include a template iTunesPrefs.xml in your new user creation/login script. If the path is the same for every user, well, then you're done I guess.
If not, you can run the script to set the path to what you really want it to be.
Existing users are a different story. You can run my script to change the library location, of course. But then you also have to move their existing library file and their music back to that location. Well, you don't have to; you can make the users do it themselves! Also, I don't know if that will work as I haven't tested it.
I haven't fully explained everything, but I don't have time right now. I hope at least I've given you some ideas. Of course the optimum solution is an Apple-provide GPO you could use. You can try asking apple for it via either a bugreport (if you have an ADC account), or the feedback page for iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • HT1947 Can you use a mobile hotspot on your iPhone 4s to control the remote app?

Can you use your Iphone 4s as a moblie hotspot to control Itunes via the remote app?

The camera roll is not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing these photos to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.  Youc an organize them on your computer and sync the to the iphone if you wish.
The photos sync from the computer to the iphone is one way.
The iphone mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.

  • Option to disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers?

I have noticed that with iTunes 10, the option to disable the volume control for remote speakers seems to have disappeared from Preferences>Devices. If you click the "?" button, the help window gives an explanation of what its for but the option to check/uncheck it clearly isn't there. Since iTunes 10, streaming my music from my iMac to my Denon receiver via Airtunes/Airplay with an Airport Express has been disappointing. The volume is far too low. With version 9 and every version prior, the volume control option was always there in preferences and I always had it disabled; music came through loud and clear but since this option appears to no longer exist, the volume through the Denon receiver fails to impress, even with the iTunes volume slider at max.
Anyone else noticed steaming volume too low? If so, agree that it's a bug?
Message was edited by: Brian I.

I wholeheartedly agree with "I also used to disable the volume control to reduce the amount that my computer interferes with the sound before it gets to the external DAC." There is no reason why Apple shouldn't restore this important setting option as the volume control does negatively affect sound quality in a high-end set-up and we'd rather not just take their word for it that the volume control's maximum setting is the same as disabling it. Why does the volume slider change the output level even when using the Airport Express' digital output? It shouldn't, and it seems the sound is now being force sent through a stupid digital volume control for no good reason. If for no other reason the "disable" option should be restored to avoid inadvertent volume changes via the Remote app for iPod Touch and iPhone. Strangely as compared to several other posts here, my perceived volume level now seems louder than before, not softer as others are reporting. People that are serious about sound quality do not want iTunes or AirPlay (formerly AirTunes) to manipulate the volume level or any other aspect of the sound at all ever, as it can't help but only hurt. I also thought the "disable" setting was available in the Airport Utility previously, but it's vanished from there too.
