Using Siri for Dictation?

Not having grown up with learning to type, I first experimented with Dragon Dictate - at considerable expense and frustration. The annoyed when Dragion became obsolete with OS X and Dragon gave no credit for an upgrade. Siri appears to b quite effective but lacking in its ability to create long documents.,with  posting to  Pages or Word   Has anyone successfully learned to create full size documents and in what formats?

Have you tried the OS own dictation?

How can I use Siri for IPhone?

Siri only works on the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. If you have one of those devices, turn it on in Settings > General > Siri.
If you need more info than that, ask in the Apple forums.

  • Since I upgraded to os 5.1 for my iPhone I can no longer type in reminders. Any suggestions how to get around having to use siri for reminders?

since I upgraded to os 5.1 for my iPhone I can no longer type in reminders. Any suggestions how to get around having to use siri for reminders?

Unfortunately, I have a very similar problem. Since I upgraded to os 5.1 on my new iPhone 4S the reminders screen will not add new reminders or scroll up and down. What's more strange is the screen will still scroll side to side allowing access to the Completed list, and both the Completed list and Date functions work normally so this must be an upgrades glitch.

  • How can I assign 'Call Contact' in Reminders app without using Siri for it?

    Hi!
Just like the title states, I was wondering how can I assign a click to call a contact in Reminders without using Siri for it.
When I enter a reminder "Call mom" for instance (in the Reminders app), it does not sync with the same contact in my Contact list (for Click to Call), but it does when I use Siri for it. Anyway to resolve that?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    If the config the the module you are using doesn't support a certain type of form them you have two options;
    - Take a copy of the print program and change it to use the desired type of form
    - Create a type of form that is supported and use that to call your form.
    Regards,
    Nick

  • I can't use Siri for calling I have iPhone 4s

I live in Kuwait every time I tried to make phone call using Siri in my iphone4s always say I can't call can any one tell me what to do please

You need to talk to your carrier about cellular data.
Also check Settings > General > Cellular . turn cellular data ON or OFF.

  • Why can't I use SIRI and dictation on my iPad2 with release 6.1?

Why is SIRI and dictation not available on Ipad2?  I have the latest release of IOS 6.1.

Siri requires at least an iPad 3.
Here's an explanation of what features require which hardware.
iOS 6: Which software features does my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch support?

  • Best apps/hardware to use are for dictation transcription?

    Hi.
I've started transcribing dictated memos on my mac for my boss.  He doesn't want to use Dragon (or similar) at the moment and would rather I typed the memos out.
He records them on his iphone using Dictamus and sends the sound file to me on my Macbook (white 2008).
I was just wondering, what is the best software to use on my Mac to easily play, pause, slow down, jog back the audio while typing?  (The less I have to use the pointer the better)
Also, is there macbook compatible hardware I can get to make it easier?
I was also wondering is there a good app and accessories for this on the iPad?
    Many thanks,
    Sian

    Hi Sian,
we recommend Express Scribe by NCH Software for transcription. It's free, multiplatform and supports USB foot pedals, but you can also use it with keyboard shortcuts. We're not aware of specialized transcription apps for iPad.

  • Using Siri for To Do List

Is there native To Do function built in with Siri capabilities? I know about reminders, but curious if there is a simple alternatives where i can just list my tasks. Thanks!

I have the same, let´s call it, deficit problem from iCal. I have around 1000 contacts in my iCal computer and iPhone and it is difficult to manage a lot of customers and suppliers.
It would be thousand times easier to have sub-groups, as for example, Customers, then Customer_1, Customer_2 and so on ...
Meanwhile ... i did not find any solution
Hope Apple can think that is an advantage caracteristic for their software and does an update.

  • Siri is not working for dictation since ios 8.2 update.

Since updating to iOS 8 .2, I am having trouble using Siri for dictation in fillable form fields.   It works great on a blank field but if I reenter the field and try to enter more text Siri does not work.  This was not a problem in any of the previous iOS versions including 8.0 and 8.1.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

Duplicate post by the same user.
Since updating to iOS 8.2 I can not use Siri to enter text into a text field on a fillable form.  It works until I re-enter a field that already has text in it.  Thank you for any help you can provide me.

  • How to use Siri on Macbook Pro Retina

New to Mac. Can I use Siri for dictation on my Macbook Pro with Retina Display?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Siri can't be used in the Mac. However, you can use Dictation if you have Mountain Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5449
If you haven't got Mountain Lion, try Dragon as Kappy has already said

  • How can I set my privacy tighter with Siri and Dictation?

OK First of all, Apple needs to stop with the restriction of what you can say in posts. They keep deleting my stuff without allowing my QUESTION to be answered.
First of all, when did this massive invasion of my privacy happen? Did it happen with the latest update to iOS 8.1? I know I did not have these pop ups until this update happened this week.
I would like to know how to use Siri and Dictation WITHOUT such a massive invasion of my privacy?
Did I ever have such privacy prior to iOS 8.1?
I went to dictate a text message to my husband today and I get a pop up telling me that ALL my information is going to be shared. There is a "learn more" link and I click that and it has this long diatribe on how
Apple takes the things I say and dictate and records them and sent to them to process my requests. My device will also send Apple other information, such as my name and nickname; the names, nicknames, and relationship with me (e.g. "my dad") of my address book contacts, song names in my collection, and HomeKit-enabled devices in my home (e.g., "living room lights") (collectively, your "User Data"). All of this data is used to help Siri and Dictation understand me better and recognize  what I say. It is not linked to other data that Apple may have from my use of other Apple services...
there is a lot more but suffice it to say, it does NOT 'match' what is said about Siri and Dictation on the Apple privacy page. The phone privacy contract description has MORE things listed that are being recorded, used and stored.

It only matches what I quoted. There is a lot more in the phone.
I also had a lot more in my original post but Apple censored and then deleted it because they decided it was a rant.
Apple's policy in my phone's privacy policy says a lot more.
Apparently from your answer I am stuck with a massive invasion of my privacy? Are you so very comfortable with having everything you say recorded? What if you worked in a high security industry?
I also asked if this was in effect prior to this latest update or not.
What I had to omit. Check your phone's privacy page and compare to apple's web page I linked ( Settings > General > Keyboard >Dictation & Settings > General > Siri) and click on the About Siri or Dictation privacy...
It goes on to tell me I can restrict Siri's and Dictation's ability completely by turning it off.
It tells me that my personal information, voice recording and other things collected may be retained for a period of time to generally improve Siri, Dictation an functionality in other Apple products and services. <-- this right here contradicts the paragraph I quoted  by saying it indeed DOES use it for other Apple things. Also, HOW LONG is this "period of time"?
If I want to 'erase' this information I can simply turn off then on Siri and or Dictation and lose what I have had recorded on me. THIS fully restarts the "learning" process all over again and in turn NEGATES all the stuff it learned in the past. The KICKER is that since apple "retains what it collects for a period of time" HOW does turning the services off truly "erase" what was taken in the past?
Why can't the learning process be done directly on the phone itself without it being RECORDED and STORED by Apple?
Now, before you go off and say how Apple respects my privacy, I know all of that. I just don't believe or trust it since all this iCloud hacking has been happening lately AND I am VERY conscious of what I put "out there" for all to see and take. I don't use social networking either due to the massive invasion of my privacy. Plus I find it silly. I will not be reduced to a low level of conversation where the simple "like" is the equivalent of a reply.

  • New update siri and dictation

Iphone 4S. New update. Can I turn off dictation but still have Siri on?

To use dictation, Siri must be ON, but you can use Siri without using dictation.
Siri and dictation data are send to Apple to help make the user experience better but not your personal data.
If you're are not happy with that, don't use Siri or dictation.

  • Is it possible to use Siri to send text messages to groups? I want to be able to say to Siri "Send a text message to the people in 'group 4' category." I then dictate the text message, confirm, and out it goes. Groups of 100 to 250 contacts.

Is it possible to use Siri to send text messages to groups (categories, distribution lists)? I want to be able to say to Siri "Send a text message to the people in 'group 4' category." I then dictate the text message, confirm, and out it goes. Groups of 100 to 250 contacts. What app(s), if any, would I need? Is this in anyway dependent on my carrier?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.
