Using Skype on internet enabled smart phone

I just set up a free Skype account to use from my home computer. Can I use this same Skype account via my internet enabled smart phone (Android operating system) or do I need a new Skype account?

Hi, Rescue11rfd, and welcome to the Community,
Of more importance is to check ahead with the cruise line to ensure they will permit the use of Skype at all!  Many cruise lines impose limits on their WiFi services due to bandwidth restrictions and other issues related to their satellite uplink systems.

  • Using Skype-to-go as a phone home alternative from...

Hi all, just some quick questions. Can I use skype-to-go on any mobile, basic included? Can I set up multiple skype-to-go numbers? Do I need wi-fi to be able to make a call or will the local broadcasting network work and finally, will it always cost the same to phone the UK no matter where I am? Pre-emtive thanks!

It costs you what a local call costs you plus the skype cost see the rates for this. Useful if you have inclusive minutes. Otherwise check your Voda rates to see the per minute calling cost.

When making a call using Skype To Go, do we use the phone's dial pad or do we open the Skype app and dial from there?

When I call a Skype contact who has no phone number and who is logged into their computer while I am calling from my Verizon Skype To Go app in the US, I expect Verizon to keep track of my time as if I was calling from the US to a US phone number, no matter where the contact happens to be located, right?
    2. The result will be for me to use US Verizon minutes and my Skype plan will incur no additional cost for the call from the US to Canada.  Right?
    Hello,
    1. I believe so but please check with Verizon.

  • Using SKYPE to Go from Cell Phones?

Does anyone use a Vodacom Cell with Skype to Go? I'm looking for cheapest way to call the states when my internet connection is shoddy here in South Africa.
When making  a SKYPE to Go call, will my Vodacom account be using all it's minutes?
Any other ideas of ways to make calls to states? Not sure if Telkom cards are any cheaper.
    Thanks.

  • I purchased the 5s yesterday and wanted to dock the phone into my Bose Sound Dock that I use for my IPOD and used for my previous Apple smart phone.  What steps do I need to take to use the feature of Pandora on this IPOD dock

I purchased a Apple 5s yesterday replacing my two year old Apple 3G.  With my old phone I used it to dock into a Bose Sound Dock to listen to Pandora and other music outlets.  The Bose dock also is used to play my IPOD.  What steps do I need to take to use my new phone on this dock to continue playing Pandora

This is the only thing I could find but it does not answer my question or even what I was told by the Global Support Rep.
Verizon has confirmed (here and here) they WILL unlock the SIM on the iPhone 4S, allowing for use of local SIM cards while traveling abroad (no word yet on whether this will allow for use on AT&T and T-Mobile.) This is different than the jailbreak unlocking method; SIM unlocking through Verizon is permanent and will not affect your warranty in any way.
    1. Meet the following requirements:
    * Must be a Verizon Wireless customer.
    * The iPhone 4S being unlocked must be active on a Verizon Wireless line of service.
    * The line of service must be active at least 60 days.
    * The line of service must be in good standing for the past 60 days.
    * Only one SIM Unlock per line every 10 months.
If you don't meet one or more of the above requirements, call anyway. You may still get lucky.
    2. Insert a foreign SIM into the SIM card slot on the side of your phone (only required to confirm that the unlock is successful.)
    3. Call 1-800-711-8300 (Verizon Global Support) and ask the representative for a SIM unlock. Occassionally a representative may not know exactly what you are referring to; make sure you are not transferred to a different department. You are in the right place. Explain that they should have a walkthrough on how to do this, and that it allows for the use of local, non-Verizon SIM cards while traveling abroad.
    4. Get confirmation from the rep that the unlock has been applied to your account, then check your phone to make sure it recognizes your SIM and can connect (if successful it will roam on AT&T, assuming you are calling from the USA.) You will NOT see an unlock confirmation in iTunes as that is for a factory-applied unlock only.
    5. Enjoy your new unlocked iPhone 4S!

  • IPhone 4 gives terrible headaches on whatever side I use the phone (within minutes), and whatever pocket the phone is carried in.  Do I need to give up my smart phone usage?

I know this has been a briefly discussed issue a few years ago. I also have seen on other forums that people reply with sarcasm and disbelief. I love my iPhone 4; however, I get screaming headaches after using it for any length of time (obviously worsens the longer the phone call). Whatever pocket I carry it in (now no longer do) I would experience muscular pain. I didn't realise it was the phone until whenever I got a pain, my hand would land right on the phone. I had a heachache issue with my old non, smart phone LG when talking on it for over 20 mins. Has anyone discovered a solution or know of a worthwhile case that will stop the issue? Anyone know what the actual problem is? I would like to keep using it, or a different smart phone if it ends this issue. Thanks in advance.

I have these headaches too after a week of having my 4s phone. I tested it myself with a 3-axis RF field strength meter and its really crazy - when the phone rings or you access email, the field goes crazy- about 100 times the normal level- all this is to say is that we're getting an awful dose or radiation. Of course, I also tested my old phone which is actually supposed to have one of the lowest radiation and an old flipphone but it was even higher than the 4S!  I give up. I think all the bad stuff gets tucked away in the marketing.  Anyway, I didn't get a doctrate for nothing- I love my iphone but I'm returning it and getting something else or using skype on the itouch or something-- if that doesn't work, its back to the dark ages.

    Detail:
I've recently purchaced a 4TB Thunderbolt drive to store my "vast" music and photo libraries. iPhoto had an issue reading the moved library, so I bought and used iPhoto Library Manager to "rebuild" it. Apart from much of the original data such as date taken & camera used etc, it appears to be working well. The aforementioned mpg video was taken some 9 years ago, using an early model "iMate" smart phone, and opens and plays fine on iPhoto, but I cannot open it with anything else, (I've tried iMovie, VLC players, Wondershare and Handbrake) nor can I share it. I just want to edit it, and share it with family.
    Any help would be appreciated...

No - not iMovie, VLC, Wondershare or Handbrake... Quick time starts with a "CONVERTING", then I get
I've looked at the "tell me more" links, tried downloading some of the movie players there. I'm begining to think the file is corrupt.

  • After a Windows 8.1 automatic update yesterday my other wireless devices like smart phones, tablets, etc can't use my routers wireless signal unless my laptop is turned on

Hi guys, please help, I'm desperate.
After an automatic update to my windows 8.1 yesterday none of my other other wireless devices like smart phones, tablets, etc. can join my wireless network unless my laptop is turned on.  If I turn my laptop off, after a couple of minutes my iphone,
my wife's iphone  and my Galaxy Tab lose connection and are unable to join my router's network. When I turn my laptop back on, all the other devices are able to use my router's wireless internet without any problems.  How can I fix this???
    Thanks.

    Hi,
First, I suggest to reset the router, meanwhile disable the network card and enable it again, because it is obviously network issue.
Then, as you post this happened after windows update, try to find the update that was already installed on your computer
Restore your computer by following the way listed below:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
Hide the  update if it is not an important one and related to wireless internet according to this article:

I hope it works for you .

  • Smart Phones with Proxy enabled....

    hi,
i have an issue with one of our customer , they have a wireless network were users are using laptops and smart phones as well to access the network. to get internet access users have to enable proxy.
using laptops they will connect through wifi and they can access all internal network resources like emails and other internal applications, but they need to enable proxy to get access to internet. this case users who enabled proxy will also do exclude proxy for internal ip range.
but unfortunately smart phones normally doesnot have an option to exclude proxy for some ip ranges.... so smart phone users while they enable proxy they are able to access internet but internal resources will not be able to use as all the traffice from smart phone will be forwarded to proxy and proxy can forward its traffic only to its gateway.
how narmaly you guys fix this probelm ..i belive this probelm faced many of us before.
    proxy is BLUECOTE
    thanks,
    Anvar

    Hi,
You can use dhcp option 252 (automatic proxy discovery).
Inside the script that you will create you can define exclusions for internal subnets similar to web browser.

  • Signing up for Skype on smart phone and on desktop

I signed up for a Skype account today on my android smart phone (HTC Rezound).  I entered a user name and password.  Tomorrow I want to set Skype up on my desk top computer after I get cable Internet and a Logitech webcam installed.  Do I have to set up another Skype account with a different user name and password for my desktop or can I use the same account set up today on my mobile phone?  Thanks!

You can use the same account.
If you install Skype on your computer for the first time then you might be presented with registration form, but just cancel it and sign in with your current account

  • Best way to use Skype number with phones/PC?

I am considering switching my home business phone to a Skype number.  The ideal useage solution would be to be able use Skype on my PC while at my desk, and route to the phone (or my cell) at other times.
I see that you offer the FreeTalk Home adapter, and also Skype enabled phones, but it is not clear which combination of devices/services I need.
Advice on how to do accomplish this would be appreciated.
    Thanks much.

If I take what you said in the first paragraph as what you want to do, there are ways to do that without buying a Skype-specific phone or that adapter.  You would need to use Call Forwarding, pointing to a phone number that your Skype account would send unanswered calls to.  You would need to either purchase Skype Credit or a subscription to cover calls to that phone number.  For more than a handful of calls a month, a subscription would probably be the best (and cheapest) option.  You could set the Call Forwarding to send calls to several numbers simultaneously, and then Skype would connect the call to the first phone from that list that answers the forwarded call.
If you have a mobile phone that can run a Skype app, you could also use that to be logged into Skype.  You could be logged into Skype from both the computer and a mobile phone.

I need to access and use Skype from overseas, and am considering buying a a Chinese phone called the X10.  It's an unlocked quad-band GSM phone - which is fine - supports GPRS & WiFi, but is not 3G. It supports Java but is not Android.  Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in features that will allow Skype use, and what I should avoid? Many thanks.  Steve
You probably want an Android or iPhone for use with the Skype mobile apps.  Phones with the Symbian operating system - mostly Nokia phones - can also use a Skype app, but lacks some of the features available in the Android or iPhone versions.  If you are able to confine your use to Skype to WiFi, not having 3G or 4G/LTE on your mobile phone is probably not an issue.
I have a Nokia N8 mobile phone, which uses the Symbian operating system.  Nice phone, compatible with GSM/UMTS networks around the world.  The Skype app for it is not great, but works on WiFi or 3G data networks.  What I ended up doing was also purchasing an iPod Touch, which is compatible with apps for the iPhone, and a WiFI hotspot app for my N8.  Then I use Skype on the iPod, connecting to the Internet through the N8's hotspot app via WiFi.  It takes two devices in this case to use Skype, but I'm making use of the better Skype app on the iPod over the N8.  Or I can just use the iPod if I have access to WiFi wherever I happen to be.
    Hope that helps!
