Using Skype to call canada while traveling in asia

I am not sure if there is an appropriate skype service for me to use while I travel in Asia (Seoul, Hong Kong, Japan). I will be calling and receiving calls from Canada. Also, do all services require that I am conncected to wifi when making/receiving calls? That the person I am calling is connected to wifi when receiving my calls?
Thanks!!

Hello,
1. With Skype (or any VoIP carrier) your location is irrelevant. To make calls to Canada from anywhere in the world (including from within Canada) you need either the Unlimited USA/Canada Plan or some Skype Credit.
2. Not necessarily. You require a high speed internet connection.
3. as 2. above.

I will be travelling in Europe for a month and want to call home (Canada) from my Ipad at WIFI hotspots. Can I purchase a subscription to do this. The subscriptions say calling to Europe but I wonder if it is reciprocal.

  • Travel to Japan and use Skype to call AT&T calling...

    Hi,
I'm going on a business trip to Travel later this year and I'm looking for a best way to make some personal business calls during that time. My company already provides me AT&T Calling Card for daily business operation while I'm in my home country(now) and I can later reimburse the fee. Since I will stay in Japan for just a month, apply for a mobile/landline number there seems not practical to me. I just checked AT&T website and know my calling card should be available in Japan but I'm wondering if I can use Skype to call these Japan numbers? I took it a try here(outside of Japan) to call AT&T Japan calling card number but it got disconnect with 0 sec duration. I know it may because I don't have any Skype Credit balance but I don't want to risk my money to buy it and then find it's impossible to call in this way. Any idea?
In short: Can I call AT&T calling card Japan access number by Skype?

    Hello,
As far as Skype is concerned the answer is "yes". You can call virtually any # worldwide with Skype Credit.

Yes. It will completely disable the cellular radio. You can turn WiFi on while the  phone is in Airplane mode, so you can used data when connecte to a WiFi network.

Can someone explain to me how the payment is made when I use skype to call abroad?

Hi, Brianbarry, and welcome to the Community,
Skype provides two methods of paying for outgoing calls to fixed or mobile numbers:  a Skype subscription or Buy Skype credit.  Skype-to-Skype calls are always free of charge.
In the case of Skype Credit, the cost of the call is debited from your balance as the call progresses.  When you reach the equivalent of "2" in whatever currency your account is set to, the credit will attempt to "top up," or the call will drop.  In the case of a subscription, the subscription covers the cost of the outbound calls.
    Regards,
    Elaine

the Wifi storage options are interesting but it seems they only allow to read files from the device on the iPad but not transfer files to the storage device via WiFi.
I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
    any suggestions?

Check out pogo plug device, it allows you to upload camera roll via wifi.

  • Using skype to call u.s

i am traveling in france can i use wifi to call back to the states? what package rate is available?

    Hi,
In short answer would be yes, you can call back to US over wifi and available subscriptions can be found: http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/prices/pay-monthly-extra#US
Regarding subscriptions, it only matters where you are calling TO, it doesn't matter if you are in France, Germany or any other country. Make sure you purchase a subscription that covers your calling destinations.

  • I want to use Skype to call an International landl...

I'm overseas and need to join a non Skype conference call at home. How do I enter the meeting ID once  have connected to the landline? Can  just use the keyboard? I haven't done this before.

You didn't say what kind of G4 you had, but bear in mind some Macs have a mic-level input and others have a line-level input. Those with the latter (eg the latest G5 dual core Macs) don't pick up enough sound from a normal microphone without an amplifier. It's confusing because both inputs use a 3.5 mm headphone style plug and they look identical.
So if you're buying a headset that you might want to use if/when you change Macs, USB is the way to go.
I use the Logitech 350 USB headset and avoid the mic input altogether. It's best to use a headset rather than a mic, because the incoming audio from your caller won't 'feed back' into your microphone. You can use non-usb headsets coupled with Griffin's iMic USB adaptor as well, but that's an expensive solution.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using Skype Video Calling

Does anyone know if you can make a Skype-to-Skype video call between an iPhone and an Android-based phone running Skype mobile?
Skype's video calling sure works great between my iPod touch 4 and iPhone 4. I like it better than FaceTime.

This Skype page says that Skype video calling is not currently supported for Android:

  • Contacts' name not appearing when called locally while travelling !!!

    iPhone 3G 3.0
When called locally abroad during travel the contact name does not appear. I have stored all my numbers in Int'l format.
Is there a fix / tool to sort out this issue?

I used to experience this. What I do now is store multiple versions of the same number, with and without the country codes. Mostly I use the country code version to dial out, while the phone uses the non-country code version to ID in-coming calls.
For example, Contact "Buddy #238" may have two phone numbers, even though he really has just the one:
    78 (555) 123-1234, and
    (555) 123-1234
I'd use the first to call out, but the in-coming calls may tend to show up as the second. Coming to think of it, which of the two number formats does your caller ID display when your friends call? Does any of this seem applicable at all? If you notice a different format for in-coming calls, just add that number to the existing contact(s).

  • Using iPhone with WiFi only while traveling

I will be traveling to Europe in a few months and will be taking my iPhone4 with me. I want to avoid spending a fortune to use my phone while I'm there and have the Line2 app (I will forward my normal calls to my Line2 number) and will pay for a month's worth of service. I know that I can disable cellular data and data roming but I want to know if it is possible to ensure that my phone does not connect to any local cell networks and only connects to available WiFi networks, is this possible?

I live in Germany and I can tell ya now that you will not be using your phone much unless your hotel has free wifi. There are not many places that have free wifi. I was in the states last December and most stores and restaurants had wifi. It was great! Traveling within Europe I cannot use my phone outside of Germany without racking on roaming charges. I have had a couple of large bills when my husband and I got lost in a few different places and used the maps app. Cheaper to buy a European navi. Make sure whatever hotel you stay at has free wifi.

  • Using Skype as call center

    Greeting to all
I am establishing a small business and I'm thinking of installing Skype as a call center service thus lowering my costs. Do anyone, by any chance. now if I can proceed with this idea or is it against the terms of use?
    Thank you in advance

Skype connect is the type of platform a "proper" call center would use.  They would have it integrated into a piece of 3rd party software like 3cx which acts like a PBX.  Note that skype connect rates are significantly higher than normal skype rates.
As for skype to skype, yeah I'm sure you will have no problem doing that as long as the recipient of your call has skype
