Using SKYPE while sailing in the Bahamas

I presently use SKYPE in Florida with family.
In order to use the computer face to face with a person in Florida while I am sailing in the Bahamas and have wifi connection - do I need a special subscription to SKYPE?  Do I have to purchase minutes even though I would not be using a phone?

If you have a wifi connection you don't need anything else to make a free Skype-to-Skype call to anyone on your contacts list.  Calls will be the same as when you make them from home.
And just to be clear, Skype WiFi is a service that allows you to use Skype credits to pay for wifi where that wifi isn't free...a restaurant, airport, etc.  If you have free wifi available you don't need Skype WiFi.

  • Can't use Skype and PhotoBooth at the same time?

I recently updated my Skype to the new version. I used to be able to have my camera on PhotoBooth and Skype working at the same time, however since I made the update I cannot. Depending on which programme I open first, the other will not work. If Skype is working, then the error message 'Camera offline' comes up. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype and that has not solved the issue. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

    Never seeing this problem.
Are you using a MobileMe IMAP account or another provider and account? Is problem when using the Apple Mail application in OS 10.4.11 on your listed G5?

  • Using Skype While Deployed

My spouse deployed a month ago and we heard that you could use Blackberry Messenger overseas for free, so I went into the store and asked about it and was told that it was, in fact, true, but now we are being charged roaming fees, atleast $50 for just a few days. I called VZW to find out about this and the lady I talked to said that it would be cheaper to sign up for a Skype international deal and that I SHOULDN'T be charged for roaming fees. I don't understand how a Verizon employee that recommends using an app like this wouldn't know or wouldn't be able to find out whether a customer would be charged for something, but obviously many of their employees don't know whether you will be charged for things that Verizon offers. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has used Skype with Verizon in Afghanistan before and/or if you know whether or not we will actually be charged for roaming fees? We're not necessarily trying to make phone calls, we're mostly interested in using some messenger service so we can talk to each other as often as possible. Thank you.

    jlaw729,
Hi there! I do think Skype is a good option and they have some great pricing options. If your spouse has access to Wi-Fi overseas I recommend shutting off data roaming (under Manage Connections>Mobile Network Options) and connecting to w-fi. That way the Blackberry Messenger (BBM) will be accessible and your spouse won't be connected to a data cellular network.
    I hope that helps!

Hi, Azd14, and welcome to the Community,
The list of countries and vicinities where Skype Numbers are currently available appears here :http://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA269/in-which-countries-are-skype-numbers-available
If the location you wish to have a Skype Number is not listed, unfortunately it really is as simple as it looks: if the location is not listed, Skype Numbers are not available for one reason or another.

  • Is it possible to use skype without wireless on the new 4g ipad?

I work in a school with several buildings, only one of which has a wireless network available. Last month, I bought the ipad 2  with wireless plus 3g because we need to skype in someone to meetings we hold in one of the buildings w/o wireless. (I've already been told that facetime won't work at all with 4g, only wireless.) The 3g did not work well at all, the skype session was spotty at best and not clear. So, when the new ipad came out with 4g, I took the ipad 2 back and am planning to purchase the new ipad as soon as the money is refunded to our account. Does anyone know which carrier would be best, ATT or Verizon, or if it makes any difference?
Another question: I coordinate a model United Nations for elementary and middle school kids, and am planning to use my new ipad to videotape the conference, and had gotten the ipad 2 with 64 GB of memory, in case we might use it for the whole two days of the conference, but am not sure if I need to spend the extra $100. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • HT4534 I installed facetime on my computer in May 2011. It worked great at first, but now the volume goes out when I am on calls. What can I do to stop this from happening? Its not my speakers,I have used Skype and Google+ and the volume never goes out.

The volume on my facetime goes out very frequently. I can hear the person just fine, but they can not hear me. I have checked my app store to see if there have been any updates to the version of facetime that I bought in May 2011 and it's not. Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?
By the way it is not my speakers. I have used Google+ and Skype, and they both work just fine and the volume does not go out.

Thanks, it seems that it doesn't like to play games, which is a bit of a bummer as i bought this specifically because it was capable of doing that.  To be fair, it is capable... I just need to get used to a sound like sitting by a washing machine on spin cycle...  Wish they would make people aware of this in the Apple Store, its very misleading and not at all desireable.

  • Using Skype and TeamSpeak at the same t

Exactly this is what I intend to do. Generally it is possible, some friends of mine using onboard sound are able to speak in Skype and in Teamspeak at the same time.
I myself use a Soundblaster Audigy Gamer - and I *can't* use both applications at the same time. I'm quite sure that it's possible since I once had a SB Li've running Half-Life ingame voicechat as well as Teamspeak at the same time. This is essentially the same: two programs open the same DirectSound input device at the same time.
I haven't found an option in the Audigy driver settings, neither my knowledge database search nor my forum search was a success.
How do I make my Audigy work like this?

    *bump*

  • NSA USING SKYPE TO SPY ON THE WHOLE WORLD!

I am user of Skype. It was a great innovation when it was developed by its creators in Montenegro. But since it was bought by microsoft it has become a precious tool for the US in its ilegal & inmoral spying activities.
How can they say that OUR phone calls, emails, tweets, videos is THEIR property? Did WE give it to THEM?
The other issue is "privacy". It has been a lie all along from Skype, Microsoft, Google, etc. etc. All of them ARE IN BED with the US goverment as far as spying on all of us in concerned. Why are all these companies SO QUIET as if nothing is happening after the revelations of Mr Snowden? - Their business depends on the millions of people who have accounts with them! - It is time to look somewhere else, other internet companies who are NOT american and who may respect better our privacy.
HOW CAN SOMEBODY USE THE "CLOUD SERVICE" offered by american companies? Is anybody ready to sell himself / herself to the US for free?

You can see Microsoft and Skype's response here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/Press/2013/Jun13/06-06statement.aspx
and btw: Skype was (and still is) developed in Estonia and not Montenegro

  • In order to use Skype, can I purchase the $49 iPhone 3 or do I need to purchase a newer version?

By Summer 2011 I will need to make and receive phone calls from South America. Friends have suggested Skype. Will the $49 iPhone3 be sufficient or must I purchase a newer, more powerful version?
Thank you, in advance for whatever light you can shed on this question.
    paul229

Regarding Skype or any other VOIP service, the iPhone 3G or 3GS will be sufficient for voice calls.  You'll need the iPhone 4 for video calls.

  • Using my ipod touch while soaking in the tub

Will the steam or moisture hurt my ipod touch if I use it while soaking in the bathtub? I like to read books on it. Thanks

There was an unscientific experiment where an iPhone was allowed to get cold, and taken into a warm place, where the typical moisture in the air could condense on very cold surfaces. This caused the iPhone moisture indicator to turn pink.
    <http://cputer.com/2010/02/20/winter-weather-may-trigger-your-iphones-moisture-i ndicator-broken/>
I would expect a nice hot bath to put out the kind of moisture that might reproduce the cold weather experiment.

  • While on vacation in Europe, can I use Skype to ca...

    Hi,
I live in the US and am going to Europe on vaction.  I would like to know if I can use Skype to call within the countries that I will be visitin and between European coutries.   I will not be using my US mobile data plan so I understand that I need to be connected via wifi.
I will be in France, Belgium and The Netherlands.  I will be using my Android (v4.4.2) phone or an iPad3 (v8.1) I am also assuming that all calls will be to a landline.
Will I be able to use Skype in this manner?
    Regards

    Hello WCMack,
That was a great explanation on the situation. Just to confirm, Europe uses GSM for their wireless network. There are third party apps that will allow you to make calls via wi-fi on a wi-fi enabled device. This is largely due if wi-fi is available and if it's free.
From my experience, I was able to make wi-fi calls on my Iphone 4 in Greece without any problems last month. Since we don't own any towers in Europe, the service is hit or miss. Feel free to update us when you get back.
    Enjoy your trip!...

  • Travel and using skype

Wondering about using skype while traveling to Spain and calling home to Canada. When buying credit do I use Canada as the country I will be calling. I do not see where it asks for the country I am calling from. Anyone help me with this. K

Check the rates page for Canada to find the cost and it doesn't matter where in the world you're calling from, the rate is the same.

  • Interruptions when I use "Write" and "Read" in the same vi.

When I use "Port Write" and "Port Read" together in the same vi and I set the output to be high level, the signal becomes oscillatory. I have read one anterior message about similar problem (using "Write to Digital Line" and "Read from Digital Line" instead of "Port Write" and "Port Read") and I proceeded as the solution suggested in the answer. However, it didn´t work.
Attached, I am sending the vi I used to test the solution.
How can I fix this problem?

    Hi Spencer!
The device I am using is a PCI6024-E board. I have contacted the NI Suport and now I see what I was doing wrong: in fact, I was calling a DIO Port Config.vi for each of the ports ("Port Read" and "Port "Write"), but it was done inside of a While loop (usually, most of the applications here in the lab are recursive, so it´s common for us to use big while loops for the whole program). Putting them outside (as you said, at the beginning of the program), it worked! Actually, I can´t see any reason for the program to work when the calling is outside the loop, but the important is that now it´s running properly.
    Thanks a lot, Spencer!

    Hello
Not all users can pay using Skype Credit. If the option isn't presented in the purchase flow it's not available to you.

I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac
