Using Skype Wi-Fi on an original Doid that is not ...

I have an original Droid that I purchased from Verizon way back when.  I am no longer a Verizon customer.  The phone has been sitting in a drawer for a few years.   I just now set up the phone to work any Wi-Fi Hotspot either at home or on the road.  Obviously I have all the features except making cell calls.  I downloaded Skype Mobile so I can call home from a hot spot (or vice versa).  I can make a call to home and home can call me however, the sound quality is not reliable.  Is it because I must have a cellular provide still (which I don't care to have) or do I need to purchase Skype Wi-Fi credits and if so do I need to purchase credits both on my Droid and also my home computer?

In the U.S. with AT&T, if you request data or internet access via AT&T's cellular network be blocked for your line/number, data or internet access via AT&T's cellular network is blocked for your line/number. When data/internet access is blocked for your line/number with AT&T, it isn't possible to "accidentally" download/upload anything via AT&T's cellular or internet network - blocked/disabled means blocked/disabled.
If doing the same with Rogers provides no guarantee, you don't want to have anything to do with such a carrier for any reason, even for the iPhone. Run away and stay away from such a carrier.
In regards to you not wanting data or internet access with an iPhone, you should consider a different phone anyway. The iPhone is designed to always have an internet connection as along as there is an available wi-fi network you have access to, or cellular reception. With the iPhone's visual voicemail feature, visual voicemail messages are downloaded to the iPhone via the cellular data or internet network only - at least with AT&T in the U.S., and this is likely the same with Rogers in Canada.
If you disable data or internet access via the cellular network for your line/number, you are giving up a significant design and intention for the iPhone, and doing away with one of the best if not the best phone feature - visual voicemail access.
If you don't need to use Rogers as your cellular provider, I would stay as far away from them as possible based on Rogers not being able to disable data or internet access via their cellular network when requested by a subscriber, and if you need to use Rogers as your cellular provider, you should consider a different phone that isn't designed to always have internet access.

Purchased content MAY be available for redownload - Music for sure.  I think books are NOT available for redownload (not sure).
Best practice is to keep the content on a desktop computer to be able to resync when necessary (or use a cloud service like Drop Box).

  • When using Skype my IPad sounds like ocean. This is not a problem when I am on FaceTime or using other apps with sound.  Recently updated to newest IOS 7. First there was no sound for Kype and found that had to turn microphone sound on.

When using Skype my IPad 2 now sounds like the ocean and I can barely here my contact.  This happened recently after IOS7 update. I did turn the microphone on for Skype as it was required after update.  Now my sound is terrible but only a problem when using Skype video call.  It is okay for FaceTime.

Thank you!  Resetting resolved the issue with terrible sound when trying to use skype.  Sounds much better!
I am not sure what all changed when reset was applied to settings --- assume it defaults back to basic settings.  I have no idea what I had customized, so will slowly figure out.  I have noticed several things.  So far I had to add back my wallpaper and reenter password to get back on my wi-fi.
At least SKYPE is now audible.

  • How do I use the location bar to search for phrases that do not contain spaces?

When I type phrases that contain spaces into the search bar, it brings up a google search as specified by my about:config under keyword.URL
However, when I type anything that *does not* contain a space (e.g. potatoes), firefox tries to connect to http://potatoes/, returning a "cannot establish connection to server at potatoes"
my keyword.URL is set to: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
    browser.fixup.alternate.enabled is *false*
browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled is *true* (though I don't think this has anything to do with it)

hello jywang74, please update to firefox version 33.0.2 - there you'll see a different behaviour (keyword.url is no longer used btw, the address bar uses the same search provider as set in the searchbar).

  • Aperture stuck relocating a master (original) file that is not there.

While relocating original files, Aperture stops on a certain file or two that it thinks is there. When I search for the exact file, it does not exist. The issue is on files that are usually named with a number at the end for duplicates or copies like DSC_1234 (2).NEF. I have had corrupted cameras, memory cards, bad memory card readers and new MacBook Air issues so I will admit my Aperture library is probably not incredibly stable. I have rebuilt it using the Command-Option dialog and this issue still persists. After this I will be exporting projects out of this library and start a new but was wondering if any one had any solutions in the mean time?

    Logging out worked!
I tried quitting, pressing escape, and tried force quitting by holding the shortcut Command-Option-Shift-Escape button for 10+ seconds and nothing worked. Instead of force quitting I tried logging out and a second window came up saying it was "Updating for sharing previews" then it quit and logged out.

  • Using a hierarchy but also showing work orders that are not in hierarchy

    good morning bi people,
i have a requirement to show data from a hierarchy which includes Operation and Maintenance information. for example it has an account broken into labour/material/trucking and below this is the pm acivity type and secondary cost element (concatenated). this hierarchy is a manually created hierarchy that is uploaded to BW and is not in ECC. The users do not want to see the concatenated field at the end of the hierarchy, but instead, want to see the Work Orders that have the PM activity types.
At the present time, we have the report using the hierarchy but we need the work orders to replace the pm activity type/secondary cost element concatenated field. the work order field is a free characteristic and when we drag in the work order in analyzer, it works correctly.
    1) is this possible to use the hierarchy and somehow map the work order field to the end of the hierarchy within crystal?
    2) do you have a suggestion to change the hierarchy, without being a manual nightmare?
    all conversations are welcome.
    Erik

    Good Day Ingo,
i have created a word document with screen shots of the hierarchy from BW, a screen shot of the BEx showing the free characteristic of Maintenance Order and a screen shot of the crystal report with the PM Activity type concatenated to the Cost Element. Once again, we do not wish to see the concatenated field, but rather see the Maintenance orders that have a PM Activity type the same as the concatenated field.

Can i use the airport express with a desktop computer not wifi- I want wifi for my iphone

I can't seem to find any information anywhere.  It seems like it should work since the AX is showing up on his wifi settings on both his iPhone and iPod.  Not to mention the Apple "Genius" told him that it should work.  However, they also told him that it came with an ethernet, USB and the stereo patch cables...

  • Can I use this app to log on to computers that are not in a network

I'd like to be able to log on to a few clients' computers who are not on one network and be able to provide remote tech support.
Will this Remote Desktop app work for that, or does it only work for computers that are all on the same network?

Thanks so much.  I couldn't tell by reading all the literature if it was possible or not and no one at Apple could help.  I had a feeling it wasn't going to work the way I wanted it to.  I will check out LogMeIn and see if that suits better.
Appreciate very much your responding to me so quickly.
    Thank you!

  • I've tried to convert the obkect into bytes and store it. But while retreiving it using JNDI, its giving me an object. That's not the object I need.

You must convert and store the object into Base64. On read of the attribute convert from Base64 back into binary.

  • When I use You Tube I get a dialogue box that will not go away.

It says 'Adobe Flash Player Settings'. Then 'Local storage s.ytimg.com is requesting permisission to store information on you computer'. Trouble is I can't Close it or Allow or Deny it. It is completely unsesponsive. It just sits in the middle of the screen so I cannot see the video. I have unistalled Adobe Flash Player but that hasn't helped

Does this happen immediately after you log in? If so, one of your login items is probably causing it.

  • My brother in law who is visiting us tells me that his iPhone 3G does not let him use SKYPE anymore.  Is that the case?

    Hi,
My brother in law who is visitng me in the US from Germany has iphone 3G.  He tells me he can no longer
use SKYPE on the phone app.  Is that the case?

I believe the latest update of the Skype app requires a version of iOS that the iPhone 3G is not capable of running. The 3G maxes out at 4.2.1.

  • Using SKYPE while sailing in the Bahamas

I presently use SKYPE in Florida with family.
In order to use the computer face to face with a person in Florida while I am sailing in the Bahamas and have wifi connection - do I need a special subscription to SKYPE?  Do I have to purchase minutes even though I would not be using a phone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you have a wifi connection you don't need anything else to make a free Skype-to-Skype call to anyone on your contacts list.  Calls will be the same as when you make them from home.
And just to be clear, Skype WiFi is a service that allows you to use Skype credits to pay for wifi where that wifi isn't free...a restaurant, airport, etc.  If you have free wifi available you don't need Skype WiFi.
Please note: I do not respond to requests for help via Private Message.

  • While on vacation in Europe, can I use Skype to ca...

    Hi,
I live in the US and am going to Europe on vaction.  I would like to know if I can use Skype to call within the countries that I will be visitin and between European coutries.   I will not be using my US mobile data plan so I understand that I need to be connected via wifi.
I will be in France, Belgium and The Netherlands.  I will be using my Android (v4.4.2) phone or an iPad3 (v8.1) I am also assuming that all calls will be to a landline.
Will I be able to use Skype in this manner?
    Regards

    Hello WCMack,
That was a great explanation on the situation. Just to confirm, Europe uses GSM for their wireless network. There are third party apps that will allow you to make calls via wi-fi on a wi-fi enabled device. This is largely due if wi-fi is available and if it's free.
From my experience, I was able to make wi-fi calls on my Iphone 4 in Greece without any problems last month. Since we don't own any towers in Europe, the service is hit or miss. Feel free to update us when you get back.
    Enjoy your trip!...

    thanks,
so , now what is the benefit of hyper-v role on essential 2012r2 .  it that means that I can install only one operating system on it only one instance and no more. also I can run some applications on this server  just like you say with RDP licence
for each user to acces this virtual server!
and if I want more instances then I have to get datacenter.

  • How to use skype when away from your country of origin

Hi All,I am going overseas but don't want to take my mobile. How do I use Skype in the country I am staying to confirm reservations and also to call back home. Am not very technologically minded so hope you can help me.thanksKrys

    Hey Krys great question!
You can use your laptop or tablet if you are taking them with you.
You can also use a friend's device (mobile or desktop), go to an internet café, or use an airport or even hotel computer.
    Basically, any device will do!
The device needs to be connected to the Internet - most hotels, cafes and airports provide free wi-fi nowadays, I always use those.
Download and install Skype on the device or launch it if it is already installed.
Login with your existing Skype login and password. (Don't forget to log out when you're done with your calls!)
You will see all your Skype contacts and past conversations, and you can call them for free, just as you would do it from home.
If you want to call a mobile or a landline back home or in the country you are travelling to, you can also do that with Skype Credit or a Skype subscription. Calls to landlines and mobiles are not free as we need to connect you to a network operator. However, they are usually much cheaper than what you would pay using your mobile! Check out our rate pages to find the best plan for your needs: https://www.skype.com/en/rates/?nu=subs-calling
    Enjoy!
