Using sleepless with macbook

so is there anyone out there that can vouch for using sleepless all the time with the display closed? i am just too paranoid to let the display be closed cause i dont want anything to happen to the screen. just wondering what some of your thoughts on this are, thanks!

well, i think that is pointless...i mean, it is fine to have the display closed, but you should at least put the MB to sleep (in fact it only takes 2 seconds : press Command-Option-Eject for 2 seconds and the MB is asleep)

  • Use Creative with Macbook?

I have a Creative Zen Vision:M. Is there any way to use this with my Macbook?
When I plug it in nothing happens.

    Thanks.
So it really isn't anyway I can use it without installing something?
    Sad, but true.
I didn't quite understand the xnjb. I would just like to get my songs from my Creative to my Mac. But I guess that won't work in any way then?
While XNJB works quite fantastic with the Nomad players, it seems that Microsoft has added additional protection with the Zune players.
So right now XNJB can only show a list of songs and files on the Zune player, but can not copy to or from the Zune player.
So like a brody already posted, to get the songs (if they are not copy-protected) from the Zune onto a computer, you might have to use a Windows PC.
Maybe you can convince a friend or colleague to let them use their computers for that task.

  • How can I use airplay with Macbook Pro 9,2 Mid 2012/ Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5

What do I need to do to play Airplay on Apple TV from my computer.  The option is not in my display setting, so, obviously, I do not have the capability.  Do i need to upgrade my software?

    You can't.
    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs  that do not support Airplay and mirroring.

  • Terrible feedback/noise using jamlab with macbook

I don't know where else to post this. I'm sure it's a macbook issue, as I used the same jamlab with my mini.
Whenever I use distortion (i've been playing guitar for over 15 years, so I know how much distortion is too much etc... in this case, anything in the 'saturated' range) screams feedback, even when using headphones. I only use headphones.
I also bought a preamp to see if it was an input/gain issue. No Help.
Here are some things I've tried:
    - Using aggregate device to use headphones out of macbook, input of jamlab. No help.
    - Muting all unused devices (built-in mic, line-in etc..) No Help
    - Unplugging from power source. No Help
    - Using different USB port, turning off bluetooth, wifi etc. No help!
Something interesting to note; when looking at the meters and the noise is present, they sit flat, not necessarily redlining, but they're not pumping, they're hitting a wall. The screeching feedback only occurs in the absence of notes. When I select 'no output' on the channel the levels are empty and respond as they should when playing guitar. They bounce when I play, remain silent when I'm not playing. However, this is pointless because I want to hear what I'm playing. The meters also behave this way (normal) when I unplug the headphones (not routed to speakers or any other to-air output)
I'm been getting into amp sims lately, and this is just annoying the **** out of me. A noise gate would be of no use because I'm incorporating volume swells, rests, and sustained notes...for me a gate just ruins all those things.
Anyone else experience this? I have the latest driver as well.

You should have a line-in jack right next to the headphone-out jack on your Macbook, no? Then in GB's Prefs choose built-in for you input.
I strongly doubt that the line-in would pick up anything from an iPhone headset. You would have to untangle the in/out wiring of that headset, and then the level would still be much too low for a line-in. Think of all the stereo headsets that work with Windows machines but not with a Mac because it has a line-level input and not a mic-level.

  • Using Outlook with MacBook is frustrating - need help

One main reason I purchased a MacBook Pro is because I knew they had a compatable Microsoft Office program. Unfortunately now that i have it installed I cant sink my contacts, notes and calendars with the MacBrook Pro/iPdad Iphone. Does anyone know if this can be done successfully?

Microsoft Office does not support iCloud, you can't do what you want.
Use Calendars and Contacts, Reminders and Notes instead.

  • Using iphone with macbook air to access internet away from home

Can I use the iphone as a dongle to access internet on Macbook air. I find using the iphone fiddly and would prefer the laptop when away from home.

You can, but you have to pay an additional fee to AT&T. I think it's about $20/month for tethering.

  • Using iCloud with MacBook Pro from 2006, running iOS Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I have an old MacBook Pro (from 2006) running OS X Snow Leopard ver. 10.6.8.  I wanted to use MobileMe or iCloud to store content, but I have run into a problem.  iCloud needs version 10.7.5 or higher, but I can't seem to find a way to upgrade from my version to that version.  The free OS X Mavericks upgrade requires newer hardward.  I can't find a way to upgrade to Lion or any version - I keep getting into a support page loop.

You need to call Apple to purchase Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Using FaceTime with macbook pro and no video on other end

I can see and hear the person on the onther end but they can't see me. The green light next to the camera is on and I can see myself in the facetime window.

    Welcome to the forum.
You did not tell us about your system's I/O, i.e. the HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type and how you have them allocated.
Now, how to you get the material from PrPro to Nero?
Have you tried the great authoring program, Adobe Encore? It ships with PrPro and is a wonderful program for authoring DVD's.
As a starter, I would Export as elemental/elementary streams, i.e. non-muxed, video-only and audio-only, and then Import the video-only file into Encore as a Timeline, and the audio-only file as an Asset. From the Project Panel (looks about like the one in PrPro), just drag your audio-only file to the appropriate Timeline, where it snaps into place.
Encore ships and installs with a bunch of Functional Content: Menus, Buttons, etc., and these can be easily accessed and brought into the Project from the Library Panel. You can then Edit in Photoshop for about anything that you would want.
As for why Nero might be messing up, I have never even seen that module in Nero. Maybe others can help.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to use AirMirror with Macbook?

Can someone give me a step by step on how to do this?  iTunes has the AirMirror icon, so it should work.

When playing content in iTunes on the MacBook, select the Apple TV from the AirPlay drop down menu in the bottom right corner of iTunes.

  • Earpods with MacBook Pro

Used EarPods with MacBook Pro, v. 10.6.8.  Worked fine, but when I disconnected them from the laptop, no sound would emit from the laptop speakers.  Went to System Preferences-Sound-Output, where the only outbput device listed was "Digital Output".
Also shut down and restarted the laptop, with no success.
    Any suggestions?

After numerous attempts, this worked.  Thank you . . . but is there any way to avoid this problem? Kind of a nuisance to have to do this every time.

  • I have 2 macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only loged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk

I have 2 Macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only logged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk. Is it possible to update her account on my macbook using her external disk without overwriting my stuff on the same Macbook and vice versa?

Time Machine does not do individual accounts. It records the complete drive. So if you were to use her TM backup on your Mac it would make your Mac just like hers. Both yours and her account on your MAC.
Just copy the missing files over from her Mac to yours. If there are differennt programs on each then they would need to be installed on both.

  • I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way?

I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way? I appreciate that it is a different computer but I am now the end user of both devices and I was just wondering if it was possible.
    Thanks,
    Sean

The answer would be in your software license agreement for Aperture. However if you cannot locate it you can ask in the Aperture forum, the link for that is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/aperture
However I believe you can have Aperture installed on two machines however only one may be using it at a time.
On the new iMac launch the Mac App Store - Purchased - look for Aperture and download to your new machine.

  • How do I use the App store with macbook pro and mac pro

I currently use the app store with the mac book, but want to buy (share?) apps and music with the mac pro.
I can't find anything that specifically outlines how this works.
I use SplashID with the macbook and an iPhone, and want to use it (and sync it) on the mac pro as well.
If you buy apps for a macbook, can you use them on a second machine, or do you need to buy it a second time?

Your license from the MAS allows you to download and install the apps on as many Macs as you own or have under your control (institutional or employer supplied Macs.) The Mac should to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion. Open the MAS app on the Mac Pro and sign into your account to have access to download all of your previous purchases in the Purchased pane.
Simple apps can also be dragged & dropped over a network connection from the MacBook to the Mac Pro.

  • I dropped my macbook pro and the screen is broken can i still use it with an external monitor? Or can I or how do I transfer hard drive files to my mac mini?

I dropped my 17" macbook pro and the screen is broken. Can I still use it with an external monitor? When I plugged it into a monitor I had used it with before, I'm not able to see anything on the macbook screen to control it. It came on but I just got the blue screen with nothing else after typing in my password. (Didn't see the password form just assumed it was there somewhere and it did go from space to blue screen but no desktop icons, files, dock strip at top or anything else, just blank blue screen) so I can't access the system preferences.
Or can I / or how do I, transfer hard drive files to my mac mini? If not salvageable as is can I pull out the hard drive and make it an external harddrive? In otherwords is anything salvageable? It seems it's coming on I just can't access anything. BTW I was told it would cost aprox $1000 to replace the screen! I paid almost $4000 for this thing and it was running great - makes me sick to lose it!

I'd like to promise you that everything will be fine if you just get the monitor going - but it's hard to know what the hardware damage might be. It might be the monitor, or the damage might be greater.
Your best solution would be visit your local Apple Store and let them know what your situation is. They have access to diagnostics you don't, and they might be able to the best way to save your data and keep you computing. It's still not covered, but they can tell you what your current options are.
Um, you might consider investing in a backup drive.
And there other repair options, too. Powerbook Medic http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67 offers reliable repairs, and quotes prices well under Apple's.

1 Is it possible or do I need a Mac pc or change laptop to windows based ?
2 do I use remote access to NAS or use previews and sync catalogue ?
3 can lr exist with both file formats at same time ?

I use a similar setup, with a Windows desktop PC and a MacBook Pro. My photos are on an external drive connected to the Windows machine, and I sync the catalog and smart previews using Dropbox.
