ORACLE SOLARIS 11 EXPERTS
How can i do for using the slices from s10 to s15 on a Solaris 11 x86 system ?
I have the information that i can do this using the "fmthard" command...
Where i can find a tutorial or a technnical article or web site where list a complete explanation
abot this topic.
¡¡¡VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO THE OTN COMMUNITY!!!

Thanks for the answer...
¡¡¡I SOLVED!!!
I have to do is a "custom file" for example "full_slices.vtoc" with the following format
using the command:
#prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c4t1d0p0 > full_slices.vtoc
* /dev/rdsk/c4t1d0p0 partition map
* Dimensions:
* 512 bytes/sector
* 63 sectors/track
* 255 tracks/cylinder
* 16065 sectors/cylinder
* 2609 cylinders
* 2607 accessible cylinders
* Flags:
* 1: unmountable
* 10: read-only
* First Sector Last
* Partition Tag Flags Sector Count Sector Mount Directory

8 1 01 0 16065 16064
10 0 00 14731605 2104515 16836119

15 0 00 25254180 16627275 41881455
Now i just run the following command as the "root" user and dont forget to poinT to the "SLICE 2 - WHOLE DISK":
# fmthard -s full_slices.vtoc /dev/rdsk/c4t1d0s2
¡¡¡Now i can use this slices as RAW DEVICES for my Oracle DB or new ufs file systems!!!

  • Last kernel patch for Solaris 10 x86 screwed up my kernel

    Hi,
    The last kernel patch for Solaris 10 x86 (sorry I cant remember the patch id, but the revision is 30), available from Sun Update Manager screwed up my system.
    The system is still booting but in maintenance mode: smf can't start because of repository corrupted. Given instructions to restore the repository does not work because / filesystem is mounted read-only...
    As I am not a solaris expert, I will reinstall it from CD. I hope I won't loose the filesystem.
    I was used to blindly trust Sun solaris patches, that was a mistake.
    Laurent.

    i dont know why but still i do get default log in into the single mode
    after startup
    Requesting maintenance mode
    (See /lib/svc/share/README for aditional information. )
    Root password for system maintenance (control-d to bypass):i did removed the patch installed before so now
    SunOS jorgito 5.10 Generic_118844-26 i86pc i386 i86pcand finaly i do have milestone like this

    dont know what to do else, also tried to synchronize boot-archive from solaris failsafe ...

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

    I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
    If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

    For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

  • JRock Kit for Solaris 10 x86/x64

    Hi,
    Why don't exist a Jrock Kit distribution for
    Solaris 10 x86/x64?
    I have Bea 8.1, 9.2 for Solaris 10
    x86/x64 and now Oracle 10g Rel 2 and I don't understand why
    BEA don't release it.
    Thanx
    Giancarlo

    Porting JRockit to new OSes/architectures is very expensive, so we have to prioritize the porting effort based on customer interest, and there has been very little demand for JRockit on Solaris/x86. Most customers purchasing Sun x86 hardware use Windows or Linux.

  • Mod_jk2 package for Solaris 10 x86

    I need a mod_jk2 package for Solaris 10 x86 so it will be part of my installation, thus build is not good enough. Can anyone help?
    Oren

    Creator is now integrated into NetBeans. Download the Java + EE
    distribution of the NetBeans 6.1 release from netbeans.org.
    When you create a project, you will be led through a series of panels,
    where the last is Frameworks. Select the "Visual Web JavaServer Faces"
    framework. You will be familiar with the rest, and of course it will
    work on solarisx86.
    Have fun!

  • Oracle 9 for Solaris (Intel) x86?

    Did oracle drop support for Solaris (Intel) x86? I run a shop with a large scale intel server running Solaris 9 (x86) and would like to try out Oracle 9i on it.

  • Boot image for Solaris 8 x86?

    Does anyone know where I can download the image for the boot floppy for Solaris 8 x86?
    Mine got corrupted, and since System Commander 2000 doesn't recognize the partition, that and the CD are the only ways I can boot the system.
    Thanks in advance,

    Are you considering any particular cards ?
    I have had good luck with DEC21040 (10baseT) and DEC21140 (100baseT) cards
    in Solaris 7 through Solaris 10 on x86.
    The same can be said for 3Com 3C905C-TX cards.
    Solaris 8x86 will recognize many chipsets natively,
    and a number of third party developers have created working driver packages.
    Most of their driver packages are free, but a few are not free.
    Solaris 9 works with a few more, and Solaris 10 works with yet more adapters.
    The Solaris 8x86 HCL list has the native cards.
    This other Sun web page can direct you toward 3rd party sites.

  • Where to obtain Update 3 for Solaris 10 x86

    Hello all,
    For some reason my smpatch is broken and won't download patches. I need to locate Update 3 for Solaris 10 x86 but with all the new changes to the website I'm completely lost and can't seem to find the download link.
    Can anyone help out?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi
    google "download solaris", first hit, at the bottom of the page "Looking for prior versions of Oracle Solaris?"
    Here it says
    "Note 1: Previous versions of Solaris 10 are no longer necessary as the latest release includes support for all Solaris 10 supported platforms and includes important enhancements not found in earlier releases."
    and "Solaris 10 10/08" (aka Update 6) is the oldest available.
    Note that you now need a support contract to access all patches except for patches to the "Oracle Solaris" compiler (if installed) and to the patch system.

  • Cross compiling apps on solaris 8 for solaris 10 x86 and x64

    Hi All,
    We have a few applications built on Solaris 8. and we want to build the same apps on Solaris 10 x86 and x64 but the problem is clearcase does not support Solaris 10 yet.
    Can we cross compile the apps on Solaris 8 for Solaris 10 x86 and x64 ? and how ?
    waiting for any info on this.
    TIA,
    warm regards,
    Girish

    FYI, I noticed the reply on Sun Studio General Forum:
    If you build an app on one version of Solaris, the app will run on later Solaris versions. So in particular, you can build an x86 application on Solaris 8 and run it on Solaris 9 and 10.
    Unfortunately, an x64 application must be built on a Solaris x64 system, which first became available with Solaris 10.

  • URGENT! SEGV-errors when using Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris

    I often (not always) got SEGV-error with core dump when I use Oracle Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris. This Error is always got in the call of the the function xmlinit(...) with all params as NULL but the first required for the error code and the second which i assign a macro that evaluates to "US-ASCII". Does anyone knows about this problem?
    I am using a very short, wellformed and validated XML document.
    I would be very glad for some help about this!

  • Compiling ant 1.6.2 for Solaris 10 x86

    Hi,
    I need to compile Ant 1.6.2 on Solaris 10 x86 edition (S10 x86 comes with ant 1.5.4 but some of the newer ant syntaxes are not supported in 1.5.4). When I tried doing the compile using Ant 1.6.2 sources from ant.apache.org, I get the following error:
    src/main/org/apache/tools/ant/types/AbstractFileSet.java:48: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class ModifiedSelector

    import org.apache.tools.ant.types.selectors.modifiedselector.ModifiedSelector;

    Note: Recompile with -deprecation for details.
    10 errors

    ModifiedSelector class has some unresolved symbols. And this is present at many places.
    Any idea what I should do to get over this error ?
    Thanks,
    Murthy

    I had the same problem on Solaris 10 sparc. The problem seems to relate to symbolic links with
    long names not being extracted correctly from the tar file (resulting in @LongLink files popping
    up around the place). If you use the .zip source file then the build goes fine.
    Philip.

  • 64-bit JRE for Solaris 10 x86

    I understand that this is not one of the supported configurations at this time. Could anyone comment if there are plans to support 64-bit Java on Solaris 10 x86?
    Cheers,
    ~george

    On the x86 solaris 10 system I'm looking at there is
    a client VM
    /bin/java -client -version
    java version "1.5.0_12"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_12-b04, mixed mode)
    and a server VM
    /bin/java -server -version
    java version "1.5.0_12"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_12-b04, mixed mode)
    For the client the 64bit VM is still in development. I don't
    think there are dates established for that yet.
    If you can use the server VM, then you need to down
    load the 64bit binaries. Then you will see
    /bin/java -server -d64 -version
    java version "1.5.0_12"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.5.0_12-b04, mixed mode)
    The downloads are at (look for the release you want)
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
    Hope that helps.

  • Kernel patch updation for solaris 10 x86

    I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
    If anyone done this please guide me..

    Patch 118855-36 is the latest kernel patch for Solaris 10 on x86 and its dependencies are:
    113000-01 117435-02 118344-14 119043-09 119255-14 121264-01 122035-01 123840-01 (or greater)
    Whether you should go ahead and install the patch is up to you, if possible try it out on a test box first. For better advice on this matter, I would suggest posting in the Solaris 10 forum as this forum is for the Sun Update Connection, Patch Manager & PatchPro toolsets.
