Using Smart Build with Text of a Title

I’m brand new to Keynote. I have successfully put in text for a title where the words of the title are in separate text boxes and move into a straight mid line. I tried to put a smart build of a sunrise in the background, but for some reason I could only have success seeing the text if I limited the sunrise to one pictures with the text moving onto the screen and aligning one at a time.
Any suggestions?

1. Create your titles with build in/out and move action build(s).
2. Click the Smart Build.
3. In the Build Inspector, click the "More Options" button and it will reveal a drawer.
4. Click on the 1st line in the drawer.
5. Click the "Set separate timings for elements".
Now you can reorder the animations so the text builds in, moves and out between stages of the Smart Build. There are options at the bottom of the drawer if you want stuff to happen on a click, with or after.

Using perspective tool with text in AI CS5

Hi,
I am new to AI CS5 and was wondering if someone could please tell me how to use the Perspective tool with text? Also, does the text have to be expanded in order to use the perspective tool or is that not recommended?

Use of MIN with text data

I am not familiar with using MIN with text data as in the sample below and could use some help in deciphering what it is doing. This SELECT statement is taken from a larger CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW statement. The first line of the WHERE clause is making the connection to look at the correct user's information. The section after the first AND is what I am trying to interpret correctly. I have moved into a new position and wasn't around when this view was created. The statement is designed to assign the correct DOMAIN_ID to each user based on values in the elms.elms_dom_lkup table ed. This table consists of 4 columns: DOMAIN_ID, PROC_LVL, LOCATION, AND POSITION. The DOMAIN_ID is the only field that is not nullable. The primary key for the table is a combination of the 4 columns. The section after the first AND matches the PROC_LVL from the ed (lookup table) to the PROCESS_LEVEL in the cd (reference table) and confirms the process level is associated with the users primary position. It then looks for one of three conditions:
1. process levels match and LOCATION and POSITION are NULL
2. process levels match and LOCATION matches user's location in a reference table
3. PROC_LVL is NULL and POSITION matches user's position in a reference table

My question revolves around the priority on those matches. The ed table is not organized in any manor. The records are in the order they were entered. Does the MIN in the SELECT statement cause the DOMAIN_ID

Welcome to the forum!
If v is a string column (such as a VARCHAR2), then MIN (v) is the first string in collating order (that is, alphabetic order, but with numbers and punctuation symols given particular values in the ordering).
It lookw like the code fragment you posted is a Scalar Sub-Query , that is, a sub-query used where an expression is exprected. For example, in a query like this:
SELECT *
FROM    scott.emp
WHERE   sal     > 1200
;You can replace the literal 1200 with any kind of numeric expression, even
SELECT *
FROM    scott.emp
WHERE   sal     > (     --Begin scalar sub-query
                SELECT AVG (sal)
                FROM    scott.emp
            )     -- End scalar sub-query
;You have to be careful that a sclar sub-query produces exactly one column, and either 0 or 1 rows. You'll get a run-time error if the sub-query ever produces 2 or more rows.
People sometimes use MIN in situations like yours when the sub-query might otherwise return 2 or more rows, and either:
(a) all the non-NULL rows will contain the same domain_id, or
(b) it doesn't matter which domain_id is used, just so long as it is one that actually exists in the result set.

Rows in a relational table are never in any intrensic order.
It looks like the question got cut off. Does the MIN in the SELECT statement cause the DOMAIN_ID to do what?

Using Smart folders with front row

I have several video files on my Hard Disk, and would like to see them without having to move them to the MOVIE folder.
Creating aliases doesn't work because I always have new files and can't synchronize all of them manually!
Best way would be to create a Smart folder INSIDE movies that will be automatically populated with all the videos on my computer.
Any ideas on how to do it?

I don't think a "smart folder" is going to work. A "smart folder" is not really a folder itself, it's a text file that remembers the criteria you selected for a search. It's a little Mac OS X magic that makes the Finder think it's a folder. Front Row thinks it's a text file. You won't be able to browse the contents of a "smart folder" with Front Row. Now, why Apple couldn't add smart folder technology into the Front Row interface, I have no idea. I would think they could implement this. I would send them some feedback and request this option:

In our web site project we use ReportingService2010 Methods to show and operate folder and report which stored in Report Service, in our project configuration file, we use windows authentication mode for Report Service.
In requirement 1.User can do any operation in folder “A” and folder “B” (we can create and delete report or folder) in web site. 2.User can’t use “Report Builder” to save reports which created by Report Builder to folder “B”, Reports which created by Report

As far as I know, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), have no permission extension. In Reporting Services, it is use role-based security to grant user access to a report server. There are two types of roles: Item-level roles and System-level roles.
Based on my test, if we assign user with System User System-level role, the user will have permission to user Report Builder to create report. However, if we only assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role to the user, he/she will have no permission
to publish the report to the report server. In this situation, although user have permission user Report Builder to edit the report, it will have no effect of the report in report server. User who has assigned Browser or Report Builder Item-level role will
have no permission to delete report in the report server.

Using Smart Objects with Aperture

I want to start using smart objects in Photoshop, but I really like Aperture as my main platform. If I use Photoshop as an external editor in Aperture, can I then use my plug-ins inside of Photoshop, returning flattened images to Aperture? Or will I have to convert to Photoshop as my main platform?

To the best of my knowledge , Aperture saves the PSD file created when you open an Image with PS as an external editor with layers — and, because PS Smart Object are contained in layers — and Smart Objects intact as a new Original. (Here in the Apple Aperture support forum we have followed Ernie's helpful distinction and call these "Quasi-Originals".) Don't rely on my word, though — this is easy to test for yourself.
Note, though, that flattening a file that is open in PS _always_ eliminates all layers, including layers that contain Smart Objects.
In my workflow, I _always_ flatten PS files prior to closing the file in PS. That workflow works for me (I don't value being able to undo/redo changes I make in PS). I do this with a macro (using Keyboard Maestro).
Decide what works for you. Afaik, the choice of whether to save layers (and Smart Objects) is independent of your use of Aperture to catalog and adjust your Images.

How can I use Smart Print with IE10 without using the Bing bar.

I have used Smart Print for a long time but after upgrading to Windows 8-64bit it seems that the only way to get it now is with the Bing Bar. I like windows but I have no use for Bing.

Are you launching IE 10 from the Start screen, or from the desktop? Smart Print will only work if you launch IE 10 from the desktop.

Having Problems Using Smart TV with Uverse

I just purchased an LG Smart TB with internal WiFi. When I bypass the DVR and go right to the web to watch Netflix, I constantly get "loading" and error messages. I am guessing my Pace America 3801 HGV gateway is not adequate to run this service to my Smart TV.What can I do to resolve this problem? Is there an alternate gateway I can upgrade to? Or do I have to drop UVerse and seek another solution?Frustrated in Texas.

It may be the wireless of your PACE/2WIRE 3800 Residential Gateway (RG). It could be line issues leading to your Gateway. It could be congestion between the networks. Kind of hard to tell with as much information as you've provided.
Things you could try to nail it down:
1) Temporarly run an Ethernet Cable from your TV to the RG to see if things work better when directly connected.
2) Try watching Netflix from a computer, especially a wired computer, and see what the difference is.
3) Try watching Netflix from a wireless computer near where the SmartTV is
4) Visit http://SpeedTest.Net from a PC both wired and wirelessly from where the SmartTV is and see what kind of speeds you get.
5) Download and install SSIDinsider on your wireless PC and see what it says about signal strength near where your SmartTV is. See if there are interfereing networks nearby.
Once you have some idea of the actual cause of the problem, then you can look at what the solution might be.

Using smart playlists with my iPod to manage podcasts

I see that a few people had the same problem as me, where I can't advance my podcasts to the next segment without returning to the main menu each time. My old iPod did this without a problem, but the bad thing was that podcasts were treated the same as songs and when I hit "shuffle songs" on the main menu, I'd have to forward through the podcasts. I don't have that problem on my new iPod which is great, but I'm afraid if I use the smart playlist solution that was suggested here I will go back to having podcasts shuffle in with songs. Anyone know if that's the case?

All you can do is the standard fixes:
Try:
- Reset the car system
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Using ALT+_ with Text Entry

I am trying to use Alt+A as the shortcut for several text entry boxes, but I can't get it to validate. As I searched for a solution, I did find this thread (where someone was trying to use ALT with clickboxes) where Adobe responded:
The problem is with actionscript 3. It does not send “Alt” keydown messages to event listeners in actionscript inside browser. In actionscript 2, there was a utility class named “Key” which has since been removed in Actionscript3. Using “Key” class we could determine whether “Alt” key is down in AS2. Now we have don’t have those means."
Does that mean that I can't use ALT as a shortcut?
I am using CP5, publishing to an exe file, on a windows 7 machine.

I'm afraid the answer is Yes. Many keystrokes are problematic this way. You'll need to find another shortcut to use.

How to use Flex builder with blazeds and JBoss

Following the instructions it is pretty easy to set up a project to work with the turnkey tomcat. However, I am having problems with JBoss because the app has to be deployed as a .war file. I can create a war file manually and depoly it no problem. How do I get flex builder to deploy to a war file? I want to be able to debug in flex builder and run at the click of a button.

Hi, I am trying to configure BlazeDS with JBOSS Application Server. I have downloaded BlazeDS binary version - blazeds_bin_3-0-0-544.zip from Adobe. But in the installation steps, it says that copy blazeds.war, samples.war and console.war into <JBOSS_HOME>/server/default/deploy folder. But in this zip, it contains only blazeds.war file only. I have copied it to <JBOSS_HOME>/server/default/deploy folder. I have restarted JBoss. I didn't get any error. But when i give http://localhost:8080/blazeds ... i am always getting "Page not found 404" error. Please help me, if you have detailed steps to configure BlazeDS on JBoss. Thanks for your time.

What is the best file type to use when dealing with text data?

I am trying to read off text information from a file stored on the phone. I am currently using a txt file to store the data; however the input streaming process is very slow. Is there another way, or file type I can use which is much quicker?

Can I use Folio Builder with my Adobe ID on another computer?

I'm working in Windows XP. I have a folio hosted in my free acrobat.com workspace, with the source files on a network drive. If I sit at someone else's computer in my workgroup and log in to Folio Builder, I can see my folio and can edit and save the articles just fine but I cannot Update them. Any attempt to Update an article in Folio Builder produces a 'content generation error'. Any attempt to get a Preview produces the same error.
Back on my own computer, everything is hunky dory.
Is this expected behaviour? Do Preview and Update rely on temp files in my specific Application Data folder, perhaps? I have ditched InDesign prefs on the computer in question but it makes no difference.

Yes, the ability to relink (much like you can do with media in After Effects, Premiere Pro, and InDesign) is what I had in mind. I actually did look for a place in Folio Builder that would let me redefine the location of the parent folder for all of my folios. In the video production world we have to move and share source and media files with other people frequently so I was surprised to learn this wasn't yet supported with ADPS.
For us the main reasons for some sort of relinking ability are:
- When you need to update files on a work trip, from home, or some other mobile situation.
- For instances in the future when you have backed up a project and need to restore it to make updates.
- When you need to hand over a project to someone else at a different workstation or even another facility.
Of the two choices you mentioned, I think the ability to "fix" the broken links makes the most sense for the situations I've encountered so far. Assuming it's straightforward I would have no problem going through the process when switching machines. I would assume that print designers are familiar enough with linked assets that they wouldn't have a problem with this either.
