Using songs as ringtones?

When I buy a song from Itunes, is there a way I can use that as a ringtone?
If not how do I get that same song as a ringtone, or any normal songs?
When I go to the Itunes store, it seems like all there is for ringtones are like sounds of animals, car crashes, sex noises, cell phones, etc.
Thnx. for any advice,
Matt.

You need to know what the music in your iTunes library is composed of as far as the type before you will be able to do convert any of your existing music in your iTunes library into a ringtone for your iPhone.
You don't know what a Google search is or how to do it? You have never searched for anything on the internet? If not, you are missing out on one great resource where you can search for and learn things on your own - like going to a library years ago before there was internet access.

  • How to use songs for ringtones like prior to ios7?

Prior to the iOS7 upgrade, I had 'custom' ringtones assigned to my contacts.  The custom tones were ringtones that I created.  When I upgraded, those were all removed from my contacts.  I can't figure out how to get them back.  I have verified that my ringtone files are still on my iphone..but I just can't figure out how to access them.  The only option is to use the apple provided ringtones or buy them via the store.
    Any ideas?

    Hello gawoodruffs
I would recommend re-syncing your iPhone with iTunes. Ensure that they are on there. Then they should all be grouped towards the top by the Buy Ringtones and Default ringtone area.

  • N97 - using songs as ringtones issue

If i choose a random contact and push edit I can choose ringtone. I get a menu with different folders, and i would pick the music folder. But, just a few of my songs from the musiclibrary shows up. But if i go to the musicplayer I am able to take whatever of my 500 songs and link it to a contact. has this something to do with type of file or?
    Thank me by Kudos me.

I solved it! I had a musicfolder with som music just inside that, and more music inside folders in the musicfolder, and when i deleted those other folders and just put all my songs in the musicfolder - it worked. Seems like the n97 has some trouble handling lots of folders inside folders
    Thank me by Kudos me.

Following are 2 sets of instructions on how to do it using iTunes:

There are also a number of apps available. If you do an internet search for something like "iTunes ringtone maker" you should find a number of possibilities such as the following: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ringtones-for-iphone-ringtone/id380908399?mt=8  I've never used an app for that so can't give you any input on which one.

  • I use an iphone 3gs can i set one of the song as ring tone or i will only be able to use the inbuilt ringtones?

i use an iphone 3gs can i set one of the song as ring tone or i will only be able to use the inbuilt ringtones?

    yes you can
    A. how to make a ringtone using iTunes
First, open up iTunes in order to make a ringtone using iTunes. Find the song you want to turn into a ringtone by browsing through your music library.
Next, find exactly what part of the song you want to make a ringtone using iTunes. For example, if you want to use a specific section of the song from 21 seconds to 40 seconds, make a note of where you want the ringtone to begin and end.
Now, right click on the song you want to turn into a ringtone. Click "Get Info". Now, in order to make a ringtone using iTunes, click the "Options" tab.
Check the "Start Time" check box. Type in the point in the song where you want the ringtone to start in the format "minute:seconds" (e.g. the second mark would be 0:20). You can also be more precise by adding a period and putting milliseconds in after that (e.g. 0:20.150, would be 20.150 seconds). Also, click the "Stop Time" check box and enter where you would like the ring tone to end. Keep in mind ringtones can only be around 39 seconds maximum. Press "Ok". We are almost done making a ringtone in iTunes
Now, right click on the same song. Select "Convert AAC Version". If it is in another file format, you can go to "Edit" then "Preferences" and under the "General" tab click "Import Settings"; change the file format to AAC. After you select "Convert AAC Version" a new file will be created, but it will only be the segment of the song that you specified earlier.
Now, you have to find the file you just created. Right click on the new, shorter song and select "Open in Windows Explorer". The file extension should be .m4a. Rename the extension to .m4r by right clicking the file and selecting "Rename".
Now you can delete the shortened version of the song in your iTunes library. Then, double click the .m4r file and it will loaded into your iTunes Ringtone list. Now you can make a ringtone using iTunes!

    Pick a song
Get Info and set the start and end points to less than 30 seconds (undo this step when you're finished)
Make an AAC copy by right-clicking in your list view
Drag the AAC copy to your desktop
Rename it from m4a to m4r
Drag it back into your iTunes Library

  • Using iTune songs as ringtones problem?

Hi all, my very first post and no doubt its been asked a million times but I did a quick search and couldn't find it so hence my question!
I have over 200 songs in my iTunes that I used to put on my iPod Shuffle. I upgraded my Blackberry Bold to an iPhone 4 that turned up yesterday. My problem is, that I can't seen to get any of the songs that are now on this phone to work as a ringtone. I did a search online that showed how to use songs bought off iTunes and downloaded straight to the phone as ringtones and also a thread on appleblog? that showed how to shorten down a song to be used as a ringtone but it then had posts underneath the thread saying it wasn't a compatible way of making ringtones with the newer iPhone 4.
Do I have to repay for songs I already have and have already bought through iTunes again to make it a ringtone as thats a bit of a swizz isn't it or am I just doing something wrong?
My iPhone knowledge is basic as I've owned it now for a day lol !!
If its needed its an iPhone 4 I have with OS 4.1 installed
    Thanks in advance

hey everyone, i was hoping someone could help me with something ive been trying to figure out. actually, i dont even 100% know that its possible im just going by word of mouth. I have a friend who apparently uses songs from his itunes library for his cell phone, or so he says. i wanted to know if any of you have done this, if its possible, and...how do i do it?
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

I have had same problem. I have done this before, and just attempted again on my new iphone 5, using this link http://smartphonething.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/make-free-ringtone-for-iphone-5-v ia.html
but even though i can easily change my file to m4r, i dont have the option in itunes 11 to do the 9th step, as it no longer has the 'keep file' option. Any ideass how to overcome this?

  • I am trying to make a ringtone from my itunes on iphone 5 and ios7.  It says "this song cannot be used as a ringtone" on every song in itunes.  Any ideas?

I just upgraded to an iphone 5 and using ios 7.  I downloaded an app and trying to make a ringtone from my itunes but every song in itunes that I select it says, sorry, this song can't be used as a ringtone.  Anyone know why?

    Hey csumner1,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are receiving a "Not enough free space" alert when attempting to sync your new iPhone 4s. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
    Resolution
Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
    1. Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
    2. Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    3. Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
    4. Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
              - If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
    5. Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
              - Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
              - Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
              - Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
              - Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    6. Restore using iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Problem in setting locked song as ringtone in Noki...

I have had X6 for about a week now, previous phone was Nokia 1100. Now I am having a problem setting songs as ring tones. Now I just cant seem to do this with My new Nokia X6 as far as I can tell you have to go via settings...Personal...Profiles...Options...Personalise.. Ringing Tone. Also I have downloaded songs via Nokia and I can't seem to use those as a set ring tone. It says thay are locked... Wat to do?? Somebody help me!!!! ....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If they are WMA files then you can't use them as ringtones, this is nothing to do with Nokia - it is a decision of the record companies who decided top license the tracks music playback only, not tones - it is the DRM (Digitial Rights Management) preventing the track being used as a tone.
Furthermore, if you have downloaded free using the Ovi Music Unlimited service the DRM is even tighter, restricting the tracks to being played on a single phone and a single PC registered to the OMU service. There is no such thing as a free lunch, not without heavy strings attached, anyway.
If you buy MP3 files from the paid Ovi Music Store, these have no DRM and can be used as tones.

  • How to convert songs to ringtones?

On iTunes I paid for Beatles songs that were labelled as ringtones.  I changed the extension to .m4r on a couple but they are too long to be used as ringtones.  How do I take a chunk of a song and convert it (shorten it) suitably to be used as a ringtone?  I am using a Mac computer.

I used this ringtone trick and it worked for me plenty of times before but now it does not seem to work.
    ~I selected the options tab
~I clicked start and stop buttons and hit ok
    ~I created AAC version
    ~I showed in folder
~I renamed .m4r and dragged it back into iTunes
Usually at this point it'll play under the "Tones" tab on the left, but now it only plays under "Music" and i cant drag it into my iPhone or into "Tones"
I just updated to iOS6. Could this be a problem? I really cant figure it out. It was originally a .wav then i converted to .mp3 since that always worked for me. I used this a lot in the past and now im not sure why it doesnt work. HELP!
i am running on macbook pro 10.8.1 and itunes 10.6.3
