Using Sony Ericsson w900i as GPRS modem on Vodafone UK

Hi Folks,
I'm having real trouble using my w900i as a modem to connect to the internet. I can make the connection to vodafone's GPRS server and get an IP address. It connects fine but I am unable to load any web pages. There doesn't seem to be much receive activity.. There does however appear to be send activity. I have deactivated header compression and ppp packet echos but i am still having problems.
Any ideas peeps..?

The best thing to use is a modem script you can get from
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
look through the list of available modem scripts for your model of phone and download it.
Then follow the readme that comes with the modem script.
I have been using Ross Barkmans modem scripts for years and they always work.

Deleted my original reply. I misread your message and thought you said W600i. Had a solution for that one! Have a look at this page anyway. It might help you out:

  • Unable to use Sony ericsson w200i iSyc plugins

    Hi Guys
This is ,y mew iMac and I am new to this world. I have bought iSync plugins for Sony Ericsson W200i and I am not able to install iSync plugins. And can you please also tell me that how can I use my w200i as a modem to connect my iMac to internet. Thanks in advance.

I am not able to install iSync plugins.
You'll have to contact whoever you purchased the W200 iSync Plugin from, or follow the instructions they provide with it. Setup varies between different third-party plugin providers.
can you please also tell me that how can I use my w200i as a modem to connect my iMac to internet.
You need to have a working internet connection on the phone (i.e. you can browse the web using the phones browser). Then connect the phone to the Mac in *Phone Mode*, and go to *Settings > Connectivity > USB > USB Internet > USB data accounts* on the phone - and choose your working internet profile. Then choose the *Turn On* option. In the Macs Network system preferences pane some new ports will be detected. If you choose one of the 'Sony Ericsson' ports, these will need to be set-up with the GPRS scripts from Ross Barkmans page. If you choose an 'Ethernet Adapter' port, the phone will be provided with an IP address for connection.
(Note that the above is from memory as I haven't done it this way for some time, but hopefully it will put you on the right track if its not all 100% correct!).

  • Using Sony Ericsson Z710i with iSync

Does anybody know of a free solution to configure iSync/ address book with a Sony Ericsson Z710i?
I found a lot of spam from a company that starts with Fei and ends with sar.
Please don't post a link to them.

I found an article on editing the plist for iSync.
    Article link:http://www.briantoth.com/razr_v3c/editmeta.php
    The gest:
    1. Locate iSync.app, usually in your Applications folder.
    2. Right-click or ctrl+click iSync.app and choose "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu.
    3. Dig through the following folders: Contents > PlugIns > ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice > Contents > PlugIns > PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin > Contents > Resources. In that folder will be a file called MetaClasses.plist and icons for all the supported phones.
    4. Open MetaClasses.plist in a text editor or preferably Apple's Property List Editor which comes with with Developer Tools package. You did make a backup first, right?
    5. Once done editing, just save the file. You may or may not need to re-add your phone to iSync afterwards.
Add this block this block of text at step 4:

    1. You can't. The disk that comes with the phone is useless on Macs. But in fact you don't need it. You can transfer files to and from the phone either by Bluetooth or USB cable. No software required.
    2. When connected by USB, the K750 essentially is a camera connected to the Mac. You can't use iTunes directly with the phone anyway. It won't appear as a device (like an iPod would).
You have everything you need to synchronise Contacts and Calendars to your phone, and to transfer Photos & Music to it. Unlike Windows, everything is built-in to the Mac OS.
Your phone will not play iTunes Store purchased tracks, but any unprotected tracks (AAC or MP3) that you have ripped or acquired yourself will play.
There are a number of free apps for transferring music to the phone, if you don't want to do it manually using the Finder or Bluetooth File Exchange.
Check this link for details: http://mobile.feisar.com/other_sw.html
If you want to use iSync for synchronising your Contact and Calendars from the Mac Address Book and iCal, you will need a Bluetooth connection.
If your Mac doesn't have Bluetooth built-in you should purchase a D-Link DBT-120 (no other) USB dongle.
Lots of other info you may find useful is available at my site: http://mobile.feisar.com/

  • How to crash a tiger using sony ericsson k800i

follow these steps to crash a tiger in kernel panic mode:
    1. plug SE k800i using USB cable to your Mac
    2. select Phone Mode when prompt at the phone
    3. wait for few minutes
    4. unplug USB cable from your Mac
    whola!
I am not sure what is wrong with this release, prior 10.4.9 this problem does not exist, i m not too sure whether this is a bug so i only report when my Mac submits the error report to Apple online.
    thanks
MacBook Pro 2.4GHz 4GB RAM 160GB HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Who Needs PC for Java Enterprise Development?

Well, i am assure there are nothing wrong with your hardware, i did this to my iBook G4 that 100% original hardware and original Apple certified technician work (cause in my country here, there are no counterfeit retailers of Apple, sounds more successful than MSFT huh? sorry, back to topic).
And this same error happening in my current MBP which is also 100% same s h i t s. What else could we say?
There are 2 workaround to get our SE to charged using USB:
    1. When first plug in the cable connection, SE normally will ask which mode you prefer, choose File Transfer mode, then after drive been mapped to your phone, immediately Eject it and leave it on table. (noted that during File Transfer mode, you won't receive calls or text messages). Then unplug the phone without Kernel Panic.
    2. When first plug in the cable connection, choose Phone Mode, then immediately launch iSync, do some simple synchronizations and quit the program. Then unplug the phone without Kernel Panic.
    Hopes this helps!

    Hi all,
I have "Sony Ericsson GM29 GSM modem" connected to my PC with RS232 cable.
please tell me if someone know the port setting to use with Windows HyperTerminal  ?
if it works in Windows HyperTerminal i can finish my LabView application immidiatelly.
    any help appriciated.
    Regards
    Mor

    Thanks all for your messages.
until now (3 days) i can:
    * read first SMS from my GM29 gsm modem
    * i figured that i need to read all "Bytes in Port" after the Write Command.
i do that in While loop, each iteration i  re-query the  "Bytes in Port" and
read the port until  "Bytes in Port" equals to ZERO...
its work fine ONLY IF i put "Wait Until Next ms Multiple" (1000ms)  inside the while loop
if i dont do that i read again the same string from the port, its "too fast" ,  i dont know why its behave like this.
    now the problem is :
the SMS message have some format like this -
    +CMGR: "REC READ","+657577575757",,"05/09/30,10:59:44+12",145,4,57,8,"+6748480032",145,64

  • Need modem string for sony ericsson S710a

After spending an hour-plus with an Apple Care specialist we think the reason the iBook isn't communicating with the S710a is that I possibly don't have the correct modem script selected. Cingular told me Ericsson Infrared should be fine. Sony said they couldn't find the information. CAN ANYONE HELP ME AND TELL ME WHAT THE MODEM SCRIPT IS THAT I SHOULD SELECT? At this point I can't get the computer to dial any number in address book at all.

  • Using Bluetooth to send SMS and dial my Sony Ericsson S710A

Hi there. I can't send SMS or dial my Sony Ericsson S710A phone using the Address Book's standard bluetooth connection (no extra aps, plugins or widgets). I was able to do this 6 months ago, before I upgraded my OS to Tiger and using my Sony Ericsson T610. I don't believe this is an issue with the OS/phone compatibility, because like I said, my T610 used to work fine - unless the new OS is "no longer" compatible, albeit a step backwards is this is the case. Does anyone have any advice, please?

If you were running Mac OS X 10.4.x you could SMS people direct from Address Book, but Apple removed that feature in Mac OS X 10.5

  • HT204387 Can I use the Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 with an iPad?

The iPad doesn't see it when I turn bluetooth on.
It works great with my iPhone but not the iPad.

Turning the device on will not put it in pairing mode.  Consult the manual for the Sony Ericsson device on how to put it in pairing mode.
