?Using Sound Blaster to record ta

I have a Sound Blaster 24-bit external device ( Model: SB0490) that I am trying to configure,?I want to record tapes and?eventually transfer the audio files to my husband's IPod. I have used the device before to record tapes and LP's and that worked well. The system is the same and so are the different componets. I am using a simple tape player that only has an earjack plug for the out.
I can not get the device to recognize the sound from the tape player, the level guide stays flat and does not show any changes. I do make sure the box is checked to allow for the level to be seen visually.
When I did?the recording?before I know that I had to figure out the set-up as the paper documention?and support files did not cover the needed configuration. Yet I did figure it out at that point. I do not?remember now how I connected everything then. The speakers are working in my normal set-up, I have a simple set-up of 2 speakers. I have hooked them to the "front" plug and tried putting the tape player in both the "mic-in" and "line in" outlets and neither plug registers a sound in the level gauge. I believe that when I did it before that I had to use a splitter, this may be due to needing to listen on a head-set so that I did not disturb others while I was recording. I have tried so many configurations and still can not seem to enable Sound Blaster correctly. Even when I can hear the tape player the system still does not register on the gauge. I have tried adjusting both the sound level manually on both the tape player and Sound Blaster with no difference. I should add that I am trying to tape a booktape which uses a dual outlet plug adapter as each side of the tape has two tracks. After the taping of one track I change to the other outlet and record the other track. I don't know that this would make a difference but it may. I am a novice when it comes to this so I'm probably over-looking something simple in the set-up. And although I figured it out before I am at a loss now. If anyone has?a solution?I would appreciate a reply. Thanks much!?

jutapa - Thanks for the question on the ITunes. The tape player I am using is not a good tape player, i.e. it doesn't have any way to adjust things like the sound quality, etc. Just a plug for the earphones, whether I want to play a CD, tape or radio.
I am using book tapes on the tape player as my item to record and I don't have another tape player available. Wondering if something in Windows programs was overriding the sound Blaster device I tried to forego?the Sound Blaster and plug?the player?straight into the computer and the computer does not recognize it all. Likely because it's not a digital device. I did use?the radio setting last night?to see?if there was any difference, the same lack of sound happened. When I recorded before I didn't have too much problem figuring this all out - listening on earphones while I was taping - was the biggest thing. I?believe I used a splitter for that. I use Itunes for CD's all the time with no problems. In?the current?situation I get sound in my ear-micphones. ?Maybe the problem is in the ear-mic phones - perhaps I used a different earphones before? I think I have used up options with the cords, all kinds of Rube Goldberg configurations starting out with what seemed to be logical ..... my thinking was that sooner or later something?is bound to work. I checked all the levels and the volume is set?at full for mic, line-in, etc. I'm going to hit Radio Shack later today and see what they have in cords - maybe my cords are damaged in some fashion. Again thanks for your comment. If I figure out the problem I will post the solution in case anyone else runs into the problem. Thanks again.

  • Creative Sound Blaster Not Recording Microph

    Hi guys,
I am totally frustrated. Just recently I had to do a system restore. I have the good ol reliable Sound Blaster 2NX model SB0300. I use this mainly to record my elvis impersonation (lol).
But as is the case with System restore; The creti've application was effecti'vely rendered useless. I have lost the isntallation CD so I tried manual download here; that did not work so then I did the auto.
sound blaster is working, playing music, in fact it sounds better than before. After system restore I also updated all the computer drivers...so they're up to date.
Now then, I can hear my voice and music an all but, its not recording. When I press the record button an error message appears to effect "The recording format is not supported". I am unable to even use the other appliactions I use to record music eg REAPER etc and now I am not able to recod vocals. At fist I thought it was the sound card mixing but now I am suspecting the Blaster.
I have read most of the threads here and have played arround (ie sound mixing?& selecting "what U hear", in fact i've tried all the selections exhausting all possibilities; so now I'm seeking help from the experts.
    Help.
    What to do!?

  • Start SOUND BLASTER LIVE recording from the command li

    Hi everybody!
I have a Sound Blaster Li've card and have installed Creative Wave Studio ver 4.06
I leave the computer turned on all night long. What I would like to do is find a way that
the Sound Blaster Li've card could start and a way to stop recording automatically at
a set time; for example start recording a radio show at 4am and stop recording at 5am.
( For now I am using Windows task scheduler to call up a program I wrote to begin
the recording by issuing keystroke: "control r" but I am having problems stopping it by
    issuing "control t")
Could someone tell me if there is a way through command line to start and stop?
Perhaps just writing a batch file?
    Thanks,
    Frank

Well, I found that one of the problems was the screen saver kicked in and would
keep certain software from getting its Windows Message through to the acti've
window. So now I am experimenting with no screen saver.

  • Using Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 as a decoder for an external DVD-pla

Can the Sound Blaster Li've! 5. soundcard be used as a dolby digital decoder for an external DVD-player? The way I was thinking to do this is to use an RCA to 3.5 mm audiocord from the DVD-player and plug it into the soundcards line-in. Will it decode the dolby digital signal and pass it to the speakers?

the line in (2.0 channel) can never decode a dobly digital signal you need an coaxical or optical cable to pass it trouch the soundcard and listen with you speakers, and btw and audigy li've 5. cant support digital input you need a newer soundcard like a audigy 2, 4 or xfi with the external dri've bay

  • Using Sound Blaster Digital Music (ext. snd ca

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to configure my computer to use the above mentioned sound card solely as a input device,
i.e. use my internal sound card for playback, but plug my mic in or line in devices via the Digital Music external sound card for recording?
or is it a self defeating, silly thing to try to do?
    thanks,

  • Sound Blaster Live24 record

I have checked out the archi'ves, but have found nothing to help me there...
The problem is I don't seem to have enough volume when recording thru the blue input jack.
I am using a VCR for the source, with a recorded VHS Tape and using only the sound tracks from the tape...
According to the help files, I can do this. Only thing wrong is the volume indicator is staying way down in the green, with no sign of any amber, or red... In other words there doesn't seem to be enough volume...
Any help would be appreciated... Thanks...D

I am aware of the -5V.I have a OCZ modstream 520 watt and that is listed as having the -5V line.I suppose I could check it with a meter.
I will go to Creative and download their driver for their SB live card and try that.

    Hi,
I've been using?Sound Blaster Li've! Platinum 5. on my pc running Win ME for years. I've just formatted the PC and installed Windows XP Professional on it and now when I try to install Sound Blaster from the original installation CD, I get the error "Sound blaster li've 5. is incompatible with this version of windows". It still allows me to install but then I get all sorts of errors when playing back audio files etc.

  • Sound Blaster Cinema with z87 g45

    Hi to all.
I have the z87 g45 motherboard and I can't use Sound Blaster. When I open it, there's this text:
    Quote
The current audio device is disabled, not present, not supported by the application, or has unplugged jack connestions. Do you want to select another audio device now?
    And if I click Yes
    Quote
There is no supported audio device available.
I already have installed che realtek hd audio, so what's the problem? Thanks.

Same Problem here. System is irrelevant. Got the Problem on Win7 64b; Win8 64b and Win8.1 64b ... Seems to have happened after updating Sound drivers on my PC. Couldn't even get it back with reinstallation of Windows in general!

Not quite sure what your asking but here goes anyway, 7. is obviously the better due to having 7speakers and a sub which equals more channels, more speakers, greter effects.
If you have a creative home theatre that is 7. such as 'Creative GigaWorks S750' and your sound card doesnt support 7. then the theatre system does allow you to upmix 5. or 6. to 7., but this is not as good as having true 7. because for example if you watch a movie that has 7. surround sound support the sound will only be played in 5. or 6. but the theatre system will upmix it to play on all 7 speakers, to explain in more detail if the film you are watching is trying to play sound on just the middle speakers if the sound card only supports 5. then the sound will get sent to the rear speakers insted and the theater system will upmix it and send it to the middle speakers as well, which would reduce what ever sound effects it is that the movie is trying to put across. So for the best performance and entertainment value a 7. theatre system with 7. capable sound card is the best option.
    Hope this helps
    Michael

  • Can't record with Sound Blaster Live Va

I have a Sound Blaster Li've Value (on-board) card and can't record streaming audio with it. It plays streaming audio fine, and seems to record it, but the resulting wav or mp3 files are "empty", playing them results in silence. I noticed that there was an old thread about this, but I couldn't find a reply. I tried to find out if this sound chip was indeed full duplex, but couldn't find that information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

I have the same message error.
"The SBPCI Interrupt has been routed incorrectly by the system. AudioPCI Inacti've. Use Automatic setting in the Device Manager."
I have a Compaq computer and win 98. Ever since we moved, the speakers stopped working.
I tried going thru system properties and Device manager...it shows that the device is working properly. And the Automatic setting box was already checked. I bought new speakers thinking the speakers were bad but I still get no sound. I followed all the steps for Sound Troubleshooting. I did notice when I went to control panel, multimedia, devices, audio...one of the sound cards said: driver is enabled but inacti've due to an unknown problem. But it didn't tell me how to fix the problem?
I don't know how to get the sound.
Can someone help me? I really don't know anything about the computers.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Recording audio from a digital source on sound blaster M

This is my setup: DVD player > optical cable > optical-in on Sound Blaster MP3+
I'm trying to record the STEREO (not 5. or DTS) audio off a DVD I have, but it won't record or playback anything on either the SPDIF input or Wave/MIDI/CD input when selected. Everything else works fine (analog, line-in, etc.). Another thing I noticed is that all of the inputs seem to be connected to my built-in regular laptop microphone. When I press record in any .wav recording program, I can hear my voice/other background noise.

The issue I see with iTalk and similar iPod apps is that the iPod has no line-level input, so you'd have to use one of the earbud/microphone combinations or an external microphone like this one which will be limited as to quality. There are some other options here. But if you want pro quality, and particularly want to tap straight off of a mixing console, a device like the Alesis is going to be necessary, though there may be something less expensive that I can't find.
If a microphone works for you, then iTalk might be fine. There's a freeware version of iTalk, iTalk Lite, you can try, to see if it will do the job. It doesn't have the advanced playback controls and has a limit of 2MB per recording, but it should allow you to test it out. Voxie is another possibility.
    Regards.
