Using speakerphone with flip closed

Unlike any other flip phone I have used I am unable to activate the speakerphone and then close the flip while on a call.
I activate the flip by pressing the (.OP) key and the try to close the flip and it disconnects the call....
Is there a way around this?  I have 13 days left on my return policy, Thanks for any help that might be avalible!

I too would very much like to be able to use the 8220 speakerphone with the flip closed.  In fact, along with not being able to toggle SureType and MultiTap without using the menu, this is one of my ONLY two peeves about this otherwise excellent and perfectly delightful little Blackberry.

  • Thunderbolt display problems using MBP with lid closed

I am experiencing a very reproducible problem since purchasing aThunderbolt display to use with a recent (1 month old) Macbook Pro 13"2.7GHz i7.
I use my MBP with lid closed with myThunderbolt display. If Ithen allow the MBP to sleep and power down, on restarting it the WiFi hasstopped working- the menu bar says I am connected by WiFi but Safari will notconnect to the internet and Time Machine cannot connect to the Airport/TimeCapsule to backup. Nothing I do will fix it (shutting down all programs, turingWiFi off then on) and so I have to shutdown/reboot BUT THEN the MBP freezesduring shutdown (waiting 15, 20, 30 minutes!) and I have to hold down the powerbutton (hard reboot). Once I reboot everything works fine UNTIL I take a breakand the computer goes to sleep again.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the MBP lid open, but I needto test this a bit more to be sure...
On top of this the Bluetooth trackpad now keeps going on andoff; connected, not connected despite being near or the computer. Veryirritating at best, unusable at worst. This only started to be a major problem(every 10-15 minutes or so) when I started to use the Thunderbolt display.
These problems seems to be in some ways similar to anotherthread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16205098#16205098
("Major problemswith Thunderbolt display & MBAir")
I have applied the recent Thunderbolt Firmware update, and SMC& PRAM/NVRAM resets. Interestingly these seemed to work initially but thenafter a prolonged power-down period the problem has recurred. Back to square 1.
    Any ideas out there?

Just to be clear, have you installed everything that you find on this page?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4644
I just talked to Apple Care about Thunderbolt issues in general and even though I already had the Thunderbolt Software Update installed, he had me reinstall it.  If you go to this page:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16889000#16889000
you can read in detail about the issues I was having which have for the most part been remedied (for now at least!)
The Thunderbolt cable definitely transfers heat for some reason even when there isn't a high CPU utilization.  The process 'kernel_task' seems to be where the API for thunderbolt is running.  But for some reason, the behavior of CPU Utilization to Fan Speed is amplified when connected to the TBD.
    Apple Care is researching it.

  • I REALLY need to use MB with lid closed...

Sleepless doesn't work after the upgrade, does anyone know of ANYTHING that will work right with this new update? I'm not using external keyboard/mouse btw.. thanks!!

Are you trying this when the Mac is in motion, i.e., in your backpack? If you move the machine much when it is awake, you risk killing your harddrive. If you are trying this with the Macbook on a desk, just leave it open.
Leaving laptops (eps. Macs) on and closed keeps heat from espcaping the way it is supposed to, possibly damaging your system. Apple designed their machines to sleep when shut for a reason.
    Just go buy a Nano.

  • Using MPB with lid closed?

I'd like to use my MBP 13" for iTunes that powers my remote speakers and airTunes etc.
Thing is, I'd like to be able to close the lid and leave it going (my charger is in my AV cabinet which the MBP only fits in when closed), whereas currently whenever I close the lid the MBP goes to sleep and all the music stops.
I've read on these forums about Clamshell mode? But I can't find any more information about how to set it up?
    Many thanks,
    Dan.

Your MBP is not an iPod, and it will be in serious danger of overheating if you pack it away in an enclosed space (especially an enclosed space that contains other heat-producing equipment) while it's running. If you insist on doing so anyway, you'll need the aid of a third-party hack that prevents sleep, such as Caffeine or InsomniaX. I don't recommend this at all.
Instructions for using your MBP in clamshell mode (which won't accomplish what you want) are here:

  • Safe to use MacBook with lid closed?

So my MacBook (early 2009) was in sleep mode when I put it on my desk, plugged it in, then plugged in my monitor. The monitor turned on and my desktop appeared, with the menu bar and dock on it. When I normally use a monitor with my MB, the MN screen is my main screen. Obviously it woke up when I plugged in the monitor and USB mouse. My question is, can I use it like this all the time? I prefer to use the external monitor as much as possible, and being able to close the MB lid when it's on my desk would save a lot of room.

  • Repeated dropped calls while using speakerphone.

I'm having problems that whenever I'm using my speakerphone, and my phone shifts position ever so slightly (no, the screen does NOT get bumped) that my calls often get dropped.  At one point I thought it was just between myself and another smartphone user and had them restart their phone and we tried the call again.  The calls continued to drop off so long as I was using the speakerphone, but would be fine if speakerphone was turned off. I was frustrated to find out that it was not just with other smartphone users, but with standard cell phone users as well that this issue was continuing to happen.
Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions as to what might be causing it and what I might do to solve the problem?
    Thanks!  =0)

    Thanks for posting itisme1!
I can imagine how frustrating it is dropping calls.  This is something different, however, I am confident we can get this resolved together.
When did the problems with the dropped calls start?  Did you notice the problem after downloading any particular applications?  Do you use any type of case, cover, glove or screen protectors on your device?  If so, have you tried the calls, using speakerphone, with the accessories off of the device?  Have you tried soft resetting your device by powering it off, removing the battery and reinserting?  If you have completed all of these steps, I would like you to try master resetting your device.  This will remove any corrupted files or faulty applications, and allow the device to start afresh.  Please ensure your device data is backed up prior to performing the reset.
Please let me know how that works out for you.

  • Does apple have a link or video showing how to use this program with Flip

Ultra HD I tried dragging the files and other things from the video 1000 part thanks?

I had been using a Flip MInoHD with iMovie '09 for over a year with great results. My Mac recognizes the Flip as a camera and imports directly. I can also import the files from the desktop indirectly after downloading them from the DCIM folder in the camera. I had no problems. However, with the upgrade to iMovie '11 things are a mess. All seems OK until I "share" a edited movie with my Gallery or the media browser, or presumably other. The audio gets badly out of sync, and even drops out altogether at the end. (The audio progressively lags the video.) To make matters worse, if I try to reedit and export old projects that worked fine, the new problem appears. That makes useless a hundred or more saved projects. The same video clips still work fine on other machines with iMovie'09. You will see other reports of this problem in these discussions. I called Apple Support and they said they were unaware (despite the posts) and blamed it on a "Content" problem. However, I had no problem with content for the previous year! I tried to deal with Flip support, but they essentially brushed me off that they do not support third parties. I would have thought they would have at least given me some info about the structure and format of their clips.
I am still trying to find some way to recover. It is risky to go back to iLife '09. You can separate the audio from each clip in the project and that seems to work, but is not a good long term solution as it messes with fades and transitions and other audio edits. For now, I have to say I would not buy a Flip product if I planned to use it with a Mac until the dust settles. I would also not upgrade iLife to '11 until I was sure I was not going to have that problem.

  • How do I back up Contacts on my  iPhone 3 I got back in 2008? With MobileMe closing down, is there a way I export my Contacts info to my laptop. Alternately can I use iCloud with an iPhone this old?

Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
Before syncing contacts with an empty Windows Contacts address book, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data which you want to select. Syncing direct with Windows Contacts via the iTunes sync process is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

The external hard drive must connect to your Mac using a USB or FireWire connection.
Note that the hard drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work correctly with the iPhoto Library and be backed up to the Time Capsule and with the backups of your Mac.
We are really talking about iPhoto uses here, so you should post in the iPhoto Support area for more details about this. The link is just below.

  • Using  MBP with with the lid closed

I have done some searching for tips on using the MBP with the lid closed and there is some conflicting information. I'm hoping people who use their Apple laptops in this way can help clarify a few things.
First, as I understand it, the MBP will operate with the lid closed if there is a connected power cord, mouse, keyboard, and external display. I plan to use mine with a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard. (More details from Apple can be found here.)
    These are my questions:
    1) I've heard people issue warnings about laptops overheating when running closed, but it seems Apple endorses using the MBP this way. Is heat really a problem, or are people just spreading misconceptions by predicting an early demise for a laptop used in this way?
    2) Can the MBP be turned on/off when closed, or only put to sleep? I want to keep my MBP on a shelf that makes it inconvenient to open every time I want to shut down or power up. I suspect putting it to sleep will be good enough, but if I can shut down and power up without opening the lid, that would be preferable.
    3) I've read that the MBP can be glitchy when waking from sleep in the closed-lid configuration. According to some people it sometimes won't wake up and requires at restart. Am I fooling myself into thinking sleep can replace shutting down?
    Thanks.

    1) As long as you don't place anything between the keyboard and screen, you should be fine. There have been worries about display damage due to heat rising up from the keyboard, but no substantiated reports of real damage occuring.
    2) You can obviously turn the MBP off while closed by choosing Apple > Shut Down; powering back on requires pressing the power button. Another option would be enabling the Wake on LAN feature in Energy Saver preferences.
    3) AFAIK, the problems are with deep sleep and occur regardless of whether the lid is closed or not. I've not had any problems waking my MBP from sleep, but I always shut it down for the night.

  • Audio & video via HDMI to an external monitor with lid closed.

I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.
I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI. Any ideas?

Seems like there may be two separate questions here.   Audio working in either configuration   and video from HDMI when lid closed.  First, you are doing this with the Mac running off of AC, not battery, right?
    Audio:
Is the HCMI cable you are using able to carry the audio?  Some cables don't.
The only way I've ever used external displays with lid closed is with the thunder port (or DVI) adapter, not with the HDMI.  I see the specs from Apple:
    HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
So have you tried varying the screen res to determine the results?  I can find no specs regarding what ports remain operational in clamshell.   Like you, I would have assumed all of them.
I suspect only the thunderbolt port would support your desired config -- try a thunderbolt/hdmi adapter.
Finally, clamshell mode doesn't allow the MBP to cool efficiently.  Heat kills electronics, so if it's too warm or the fans really kick in, you might want to reconsider this setup.

  • EXTERNAL HDD NOW DISAPPEARS WHEN USING MY MBP IN CLOSED LID MODE

I have an 15" MBP 2.53 running Snow Leopard, which installed fine. When I go to use it with my Apple 24" Display and my external hard drive, the external HDD disappears when I go into closed lid mode.
The finder freezes too, and I can no longer enter into Time Machine.
The external HDD does show up in disk utility, however.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.
