Using stored proc with database control

I have a beta copy of sp2 for wl8.1 and I see that you have added the ability to
call stored procedures that return output variables from a database control.
I am trying to figure out whether there is any way to return a ref cursor as an
output variable.
Thanks,
Robin

  • Using stored procedures with dabasae controls

    Hi. We have two questions.
    Answer 1:
    We are working with Sybase and we are trying to use stored procedures (SP) with databse controls but we don't know how to obtain SP's return. We can to use SP normally if that SP don't have any return. Next example works fine but "stored_procedure_name" actually returns an number (error code) and we need to obtain it:
    * @jc:sql statement="{call stored_procedure_name (?)}"
    Answer 2:
    Do you know how to call SP dinamically? This mean to call an sql statemente where stored_procedure_name and its parameters could be pased as paremeters. That looks as:
    * @jc:sql statement="{call {sql: spName} {sql: listOfParameters}}"
    Thak you very much for your comments.

  • Problem with database control returning multiple rows as Array  using Oracle

    Has anybody using Oracle gotten a Database control that
    returns multiple rows to work returning an array?
    The only way I can seem to return multiple rows is by returning
    a RowSet. Returning an array gives me a NullPointerException
    (when called within a pageFlow). When calling a database control
    that returns an array from a web service I get a
    "java.sql.SQLException: ResultSet has no more data." error.
    The samples using the pointbase database seem to work, but when I
    converted the CustomerDBClient web service to use Oracle, it starts
    failing on calling the database control that returns an array
    with: "java.sql.SQLException: ResultSet has no more data."
    Has anybody gotten this to work using Oracle?
    I'm also having some problem returning an Iterator. It seems
    to work when called from a web service, but returns nothing
    if called from a page flow.
    I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 and WebLogic 8.1.
    Eric

    Do you need a particular service pack installed to return an array of custom object?
    I am getting a ResultSet contained no data error when trying.
    Thanks,

    Unfortunately, returning an Iterator to a JPF (or JSP) from a
    database control is broken in WLW 8.1, though it will work inside of
    a
    JWS or JCS.
    There shouldn't be a problem with returning an array of objects out
    of Oracle to the JPF, and if you need an Iterator specifically, youcan
    wrap the array in an Iterator implementation.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    I get the same error that Eric reported when trying to return an Array
    of objects.
    It is really frustrating because I can't use much of the built-in control
    logic
    that WLW provides. All I did was create a data pool for Oracle and a
    datasource.
    I modified the sample app in C:\bea81\weblogic81\samples\workshop\SamplesApp\WebApp\callJavaControl
    to point to that datasource and I get the error that Eric reports above.

  • Getting result set from stored procedures in database controls in weblogic

    I am calling a stored procedure from database control which actually returns a result set

    Thanks for you reply!
    1) The stored procedure has head
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE X_OWNER.DISPLAY_ADDRESS
    cv_1 IN OUT SYS_REFCURSOR
    AS
    err_msg VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
    --Adaptive Server has expanded all '*' elements in the following statement
    OPEN cv_1 FOR
    Select ...
    commit;

    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    err_msg := SQLERRM;
    dbms_output.put_line (err_msg);
    ROLLBACK;
    END;
    If I only run select .. in DBArtisan, it display all 2030,000 rows in 3:44 minutes
    2) But when call stored procedure, it will take 80-100 minutes .
    3) The stored procedure is translated from sybase using migration tools, it's very simple, in sybase it just
    CREATE PROCEDURE X_OWNER.DISPLAY_ADDRESS
    AS
    BEGIN
    select ..
    The select part is exact same.
    4) The perl code is almost exact same, except the query sql:
    sybase verson: my $sql ="exec DISPLAY_ADDRESS";
    and no need bind the cursor parameter.
    This is batch job, we create a file with all information, and ftp to clients everynight.

  • BPC5.1 - Data manager package to Stored proc with custom return codes

    Hi all,
    Does anyone have experience passing the return codes from a stored procedure back into the eData "view status" package progress or event log details?
    When my stored procedure throws errors, the offending SQL code shows up in the pacakge details, which is helpful. But what I'd really like is to structure my stored proc with return codes
    0 = everything's wonderful
    1 = invalid category / time combination
    2 = unauthorized
    3 = no data to process
    And then handle these codes as either "completed" "warning" or "error" in the package progress.
    And ideally, I'd like to put some meaningful message about the warnings & errors, directly into the log details, so the user can fix the problem themselves rather than ask the IT guy to trouble-shoot.
    Any tips? I've started playing with using the on-complete, on-success, on-failure routing of different tasks within the DTSX package (SQL 2005), but I'm just working on a trial-and-error basis right now. (With # of errors = # of trials.)
    Thanks,
    Tim

    In case anyone's interested, I've solved this by tracking my return codes as a package variable.
    Within the package, I have conditional logic moving from task to task, evaluating the return code to check for various conditions, and selecting which tasks to perform accordingly.
    In the last task, I run a final stored procedure which posts some data (completion time & status) to a custom transaction log table, and then if the return code is not zero, I script and execute some SQL which I know will throw a "fake" error. The SQL statement itself includes the key information I want the end user to see. For example
    Select InvalidEntitySelection [USEast1],TransactionID [12340]  from ThisTableDoesntExist
    Select UnauthorizedUser [Tim], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
    Select WorkStatusIsLocked [USEast1 Actual 2008], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
    It's not exactly elegant, but it gets the message across, which is all that I need. In this way, the end user sees that the package failed with an error, and when they look at the package details, they can see the problem. They can pass on the transaction ID to an administrator to look into the details, if they can't figure it out on their own.
    Sorin, I never managed to figure out how to use a VB task to send the information back to the user, plus force the package to end in an error. I'm sure there's a way to do so, but this seems to work for my requirement.
    I'm not entirely happy with the "fake error" approach, but I don't know if BPC has any support for "intentional" programming of errors in the DTS scripting toolset.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hey

    Its works when connecting to a data source that is a Table, however when the datasource is a Stored Procedure the following error is generated.
    The table 'PNL_STATUS_REPORT' could not be found.Error in File C:\DOCUME1\mckennac\LOCALS1\Temp\temp_9b3cb2f4-7e37-4e34-bd18-af7b06c85139 {ACBDC2D4-A275-4CAA-B3C0-E3C92F615007}.rpt:The table could not be found.
    The problem is when setting table.Location. I've tried prefixing this with the package name that the stored proc is in, but no luck. If I set the table Location to the package name, I get no error, but the report returns no results.
    Any ideas why this doesnt work, is there a different way to handle stored procs??

    Any guess why I get this?

  • Using stored procedures with a timestamp parameter with Delphi  and ADO

    Dear Oracle experts,
    I have a problem concerning using a stored procedure with Delphi.
    I try to use a stored procedure which hast two input parameters ( a integer and a timestamp).
    The timestamp parameter is my problem since I would like to use the "to_timestamp"
    Oracle-function to create the timestamp parameter to be inserted into my procedure.
    If I insert the to_timestamp statement as a adodatetime I have to perform the conversion to the oracle timestamp in my application.
    If I want to use the to_timestamp statement I have to use the ftstring datatype but in that case I get an error because I use a string as input for my procedure were it awaits a timestamp.
    So the problem seems to be that the function call "to_timestamp" is not interpreted if it is transferred through my ADO component.
    Do you know how to use a procedure with Delphi (ADO) with a function as input parameter ?
    Best regards,
    Daniel Wetzler
    P.S. :
    This is the Delphi code to use my Procedure.
    FactsTempDS:=TADODataset.Create(nil);
    Sproc1 := TAdoStoredProc.Create(nil);
    Sproc1.Connection := TDBConnection(strlistConnectionstrings.objects[iConnectionIndex]).Connection;
    Sproc1.ProcedureName := 'ECSPACKAGE.PROCFINDINITIALSWITCHSTATE';
    Sproc1.Parameters.CreateParameter ('SwitchID',ftInteger,pdinput,0,0);
    //Sproc1.Parameters.CreateParameter ('StartTime',ftdatetime,pdinput,50,0);
    Sproc1.Parameters.CreateParameter ('StartTime',ftString,pdinput,50,0);
    Sproc1.Parameters.Findparam('SwitchID').value:=SwitchID;
    Sproc1.Parameters.FindParam('StartTime').Value:= 'to_timestamp(''2005/12/30 19:36:21'', ''YYYY/MM/DD HH:MI:SS'')';
    Sproc1.CursorType := ctKeyset;
    Sproc1.ExecuteOptions:=[];
    Sproc1.Open;
    Sproc1.Connection := nil;
    FactsTempDS.Recordset:= sproc1.Recordset;
    if FactsTempDS.RecordCount=0
    then raise Exception.Create('No line switch variable found for switch '+IntToStr(SwitchID)+' before starttime. Check BDE dump filter.')

    I have my entity manager setup in a singleton.
    I'm finding it's costly to generate the emf, but if I don't close the em (enitity manager) and emf (entity manager factory) my open cursor count climbs until I exceed the max number of open cursors on the database (11g RAC)
    I'm committing the connection, and uow, and closing the em at the end of each call.
    But until I close the emf, the open cursors aren't released.
    TransactionhistoryPkg tranPkg = new TransactionhistoryPkg(conn); //Class created over database package via JPublisher
    tranPkg.transactionhistoryInsSp(insertTrans.getCardId()); // executes db package
    tranPkg.closeConnection();
    conn.commit();
    uow.commit();
    uow.getAccessor().decrementCallCount();
    em.close();
    Am I missing something really obvious here??
    btw - I found this link helpful in troubleshooting the max cursors issue: https://support.bea.com/application_content/product_portlets/support_patterns/wls/InvestigatingORA-1000MaximumOpenCursorsExceededPattern.html
