Anyone know of a way of using an imac strawberry, with tray loading cd as a monitor for a new mac mini. my daughter adores this machine, but needs to upgrade

Yes I know what you mean. I'm working on an iBook G3
700 MHz 14.1" with Airport that I repaired. It was in
a 95 MPH car crash and the LCD was smashed, frame was
bent and the Combo Drive was also bent. Replaced the
LCD with an eBay one, pounded out the frame but the
Combo was too bent to bring back to life. Then it
suffered the classic GPU failure but had it reballed
and it's working great. Total cost $250. I'm amazed
how well these G3 antiques work with Panther or
Tiger. Only occasionally I see a mild slowness.
Since I got this I'm seldom on my G4 tower only for
photo editing, Excel or the like. I love it as you
say because of the portability. I also just sold
another one I fixed to a client. It was a 12". She's
a reporter so now she can work anywhere. Even in her
car on stakeout!

My daughter is going to be going to college in Ohio. Do you think that you could rehab something inexpensive for me that would run the Mac Cats? It would be great to have a book, but a desktop would also be wonderful. We're flying out in July for Orientation I. However, I'm thinking of taking the train for the second Orientation and her move in this August.
You seem quite the rescuer and rebuilder of Macs. Most of what you write about zooms over this newbie's head. (I used to worry that I was bothering you bright lights with my piffling problems. However, Boomer assured me that all questions are welcome...no matter how newbie!

But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used. Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash. If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first. Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control. Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

In Snow Leopard you update Java from Software Update (in the Apple menu). You can check your version by opening Terminal and typing
java -version
(don't get creative and type anything else)
The latest version is 1.6.0_65.

OS X errors are cryptic. error code -50 says error in user parameter list.
You need to give us WAY more info if you want help.
What is WD for Mac? If it's an external drive - did you install any software for it? (shouldn't need to)
How much free space on the Mac HD? Size of the file(s)?
Is it a USB drive or Firewire or Thunderbolt?

Help for using camera raw in PSE 8/Bridge for Mac for the Canon 7D

Recently purchasing the Canon 7D, taking a few test photos in Raw, then trying to use Camera Raw in PSE8/Bridge for Mac is a problem. I cannot figure it out. Can anyone help this frustrated, novice computer user?

You need to update the camera raw plug-in for bridge and PSE 8 separately (they use two different copies). In Bridge, just go to Help>Updates which will install, I think, ACR 5.7, which works with your camera. (You can't update bridge beyond that version).
For PSE 8, go here, download the latest version and follow the instructions in the readme file.

Note that the directions may tell you that you can overwrite the old plug-in. That isn't true--you must remove it before putting the new one in there.

HP Support site suggests that with the current Mavericks OS X 10.9.x
their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that
already had been known to be working under OS X as of that date in a

Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x

Can I use 24 in iMac as screen for mac mini?

I can see that there is no way to use the iMac screen thru standard methods. As the iMac is out of warranty and the DVD/CD drive no longer works I am willing to have the iMac's case opened and have some jerry-rigged solution installed. Does anyone have an idea as to how that can be done

Using MobileMe calendar with MS Outlook Calendar for Mac

For some reason my calendar items in MS Outlook 2011 for Mac aren't syncing with my MobileMe account. When I use iCal, all calendar items are there. But, when I just loaded MS Office Mac 2011 with Outlook, i set up my MobileMe account and it synced my email, notes, and contacts, but not my calendar items.
What am I doing wrong?

That's a very general statement of yours, and the 'pros' using FCPX and 2k, 4k, 60p, 100p, 120p will tell you, 'not supported by Mac' is silly wrong (I'm using 1080/50p almost daily on a Mac ...)

There is no version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 that will work with the iPod mini. The last version of iTunes for Mac OS 9 is version 2.04, and that will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods, plus third-generation full-size iPods which are running version 2.0x of the firmware. All third-generation iPods and iPod shuffles can be used as an external hard disk in the Finder. Mac OS 9's iPod updater will only work with first and second generation full-size iPods.

How Do i sync office for mac with contacts,calendars for mac

I am trying to integrate the MS office for mac and the standard mac calendar and contacts. i would like them to sync as i use outlook for emails and Calander in mac and appointments don't sync nor can i get the contacts to sync.

Sim[le answer is that you can't. Unless and until Microsoft add the functions needed to Outlook. Right now if you want to sync Microsoft Outlook you'll need to use Microsoft Exchange
