Using Sun Traffic manager in SC

Dear Gurus
Is there any specfic requirement using Sun traffic Manager in Sun cluster
i am using Sun cluster 3.1 on Solaris 9
Regard

I'm not sure which meaning of 'specific' you're implying here. You could interpret the question as:
A. Do I have to run Sun traffic manager with Sun Cluster?
Answer: yes, if you have multiple paths to the same storage, otherwise it is superfluous.
B. Does Sun traffic manager depend on other s/w to run with Sun Cluster?
Answer: no, just Solaris and relevant patches.
C. Can I use something other that Sun traffic manager with Sun Cluster?
Answer: yes, with EMC you can use PowerPath and with HDS you can use HDLM (?), but you can't use VxDMP.
Hope that helps,
Tim

  • Sun Traffic Manager not managing 2 QLC controllers

We have a V440 solaris 9, latest patch cluster and storedge traffic manager 4.4 with patches. 2 Sun QLC single channel controllers each see the same SAN disks via brocade switches.
Why wont Traffic Manager create pseudo controller details in /dev/rdsk & /dev/dsk? I have checked fp.conf, scsi_vhci.conf, qlc.conf for mpxio_disable="no" etc
reboot -- -r messages show multipathing enabled, auto failback enabled.
Help! Suggestions for further checks and gotchas
stmsboot -L shows the correct associations so somewhere STMS is not enabled but I cannot figure it out.
The local scsi boot disks are not dual pathed, they are mirrored. Running stmsboot -e errors immediately refering to the root mirror.

connected, configured, failed or failing, indicates that one ore more devices could not be accessed to complete the configure process
    during boot.
Keep in mind, that if you turn on STMS, and you have only one path, it will still create the pseudo device path for fibre-channel devices.
So work with only the one-path model for now.
    Try:
    cfgadm -c unconfigure c3::50060e8003286f10
    cfgadm -c unconfigure c4::50060e8003286f00
    devfsadm -Cv
make sure that the the above WWPNs do NOT appear in the /etc/cfg/fp/fabric_WWN_map
    init 6
Now there is one caviate that I forgot to ask you about earlier, there are certain array makes that require an entry in the scsi_vhci.conf. If your array is not a Sun Branded array, Hitachi,
or LSI-Logic array, it may require the "symmetric-option". Take a moment to evaluate this before performing the "init 6" above.
Once the system is init 6'd, take a look at
    cfgadm -o show_FCP_dev -al
Do you see all the luns, and are they in the unconfigured, unknown state?
If so, configure only one of the paths. If possible have a "tail -f /var/adm/messages" running in another terminal window. This will show you the messages that occur during the configure. If you get some WARNINGs, I'd suggest taking a look a the lun masking/security on the array. If no warning, check format, you should see your paths!!
Another question is if you turn STMS off, are all the paths able to configure successfully, and can they be seen in format with:
    cNtWWPNdN

  • Sun Traffic Manager problem

    OS/ Version: Solaris / 5.8
Software: SAN 4.4.8 (SAN Foundation Kit)
I installed the SAN 4.4.8 Foundation kit to implement STMS in order to have a dual path to both an A5200 as well as thru the SAN to a Hitachi 9500V storage subsystem. After the installation of software and patches, I rebooted the server with mpxio disabled. I then modified the scsi_vhci.conf file to enable mpxio. I rebooted the server once more and then updated scsi_vhci.conf with the "device-type-scsi-options" info. Upon reboot, I still do not see the drives under mpxio control nor were any addl devices created. I do and have been able to see the devices via format. A stmsboot -L shows the device and the corresponding STMS device name but there are no links or devices referencing this name. I even did a devfsadm -Cv to clean the links and rebooted with reconfigure but still nothing. What did I miss? Does mpxio work on Solaris 8 using QLGC single HBA cards for the A5200 and JNI FCE-1473N cards for the Hitachi?

Robert, where did you get the information about STMS not being supported on the 9000 series SANs? A search of the internal handbook on various models from the 9000 platform turns up no references to STMS being unsupported. Furthermore the 9000 series storage systems are " not customer manageable " systems, so any support and configuration questions regarding this platform should be directed to Sun Storage support.

  • Enabling guest/anonymous user accesss using sun access manager(opensso 8.0)

    Hi,
How to enable anonymous/guest user login through opensso? In otherwords, if I try to access my application protected by opnesso, the user should be not be redirected to opensso login page automatically. Instead the user can see the content which is allowed for guest login. If the user clicks on login button on our site then the user should be directed to opensso login page where the user will enter proper credentials and will be allowed to full site content.
How to do this in opensso?
    Regards,
    Pratap

    Hi Pratap,
[I just answered this over on the OpenSSO forum.|https://opensso.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectForumMessageView?forumID=1554&messageID=30801]

  • Sun Access Manager 2005Q1 session failover is not working

    Hi All
I m using Sun access manager 2005Q1,message queue 2005Q1, Sun Directory server 5.2 ,BerkelyDb 4.2.52 and radware hardware load balancer with sticky session.
I m have configured message queue and BerkeleyDB and both are running with any error.
I m using http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7644/ch5_scenarios.html#wp41008 doc for session failover.
Simple failover is working fine but the Session failover is not working.
Any body has done session failover with Sun Access manager 2005 Q1 I m trying to resolve this issue last two month.
    Please it is urgent.

It works fine in 2005Q4, after applying a patch 120954 if I am not mistaken. But 2005Q4 and 2005Q1 are probably different in terms of session failover (site configuration etc.)
    1. Stop both AM servers
    2. Set logging to debug mode in AMConfig.properties.
    3. Delete / move everything in /var/opt/SUNWam/debug
    4. tail -f /var/opt/SUNWam/debug/amSession
    5. Post that file here... you should be able to see if session failover is enabled etc....
    hope this helps.

  • BO Authentication with Sun Access Manager

    CA Forum: Authentication
    Hi,
Is there a way to use Sun Access Manager (Role base) with BO. We are using XIR2 but we are willing to move to XIR3 if this version can do this job. I know that BO can be configured with LDAP, AD, Enterprise but is there a Custom choice. Any idea?
    Thanks

    Post Author: TAZ
    CA Forum: Authentication
So quickly reviewing sun access manager it doesn't seem to be an LDAP server per se. It's more like a portal used for SSO. If that's the case then you would integrate LDAP accounts and then use technology like trusted authentication for SSO from the sun access maanger portal. In that case trusted auth will support just about any front end as long as the user info can be forwarded to us in one of 7 methods. You can read more about trusted authentication in the XIR2 deployment guide
    http://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/product_guides/default.asp
Integrations of this level typically involvel in depth planning and should probably be done with the assistance of a BO consultant.

  • Problems about Sun Access Manager

when I using Sun Access Manager, I found It is very slowly to access "http://host:ip/amserver" , but I also using OpenSSO, It is normal to access "http://host:ip/amserver".
Can anyone give any suggestions ?
    Best Regards!

    Hi,
I added a page to the wiki which adds more detail to the steps to create the sample app policies on the am/fam/opensso server console UI. This includes some screen shots as well.
This is one good thing about the sample app is that you have to learn to install the opensso server, install the agent, configure the agents properties for the sample app security and also use the opensso server UI to create policies.
It is a bit of work, but when done you will know how to use a lot of opensso features.
You do not need a directory server. The sample app readme refers to some directory things that really can be ignored. The wording should be changed.
Anyhow you can use this wiki page along with the readme to help you set up the policies, the subjects etc that map to the sample app
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/samplepolicy
I will try to make a getting started page for new users, though you have done most the steps now, and need to set up sample. But this page might be useful for others who want to get started http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/getstarted

  • SUN Identity Manager Gateway

    Hi,
Is it possible to provide access (Read/Writ/Execute/delete acccess) to Widows NT shared drive folders by using Sun Idenitry Manager Gateway?

I don't know. Why not ask at a Sun Gateway Manager forum?

  • Integrating siteminder and sun access manager

    Hi,
I need to perform the following integration. I have an client which generates a saml assertion using Sun access manager which is consumed by another system which is again having Sun access manager. Now the client wants to move on to Siteminder. Would there be any compatibility issues? Would the recipient system having Sun access manager be able to consume the saml assertion generated by siteminder?
    Thanks in advance.

SAML is a standard, therefore you should check SAML versions support in siteminder and do the proper configuration.

  • Getting the latest patch list without Sun Update Manager

    Hi,
I think this is not the best practice but merely exploring possibilities.
My boss wants to know if there is a way to get a list of the latest patches online. We just need the list and not an automated download and patching tool like Sun Update Manager. Based on the list, we can then manually download and apply the patches one-by-one.
We have used Sun Explorer and Sun Checkup/Griffon to come up with the list before. However, the list only includes the patches available in the EIS DVD and not the most current list available online.
    Can somebody help?
    Thank you.

configure and use use sun update manager

Check your AppServer to see it up and running or not.

  • How to setup Traffic Manager with Azure API Management

    Hello-
I have been trying to configure traffic manager as a Failover mechanism for Azure API Management (not sure if this is the correct terminology).
The gist is this: I have configured Azure API management to point to a set of Web API's hosted in a Cloud Service. I would like to use Traffic Manager as a Failover mechanism to route requests to a different data center, should the primary service becomes
unresponsive or goes into a degraded state.
When going through the portal, there is no selection that is available to configure API Management/Web API: the selections are Cloud Service and Web apps.
I've also looked into th Powershell Add-AzureTrafficManagerProfile using the -Type ["Any"] option with same result - it adds the endpoint but it is in a "Degraded" state.
I need to understand the correct way to accomplish this - I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.
    gigabit

    Hi Shaun,
For most Traffic Manager applications, endpoint health is probed in the same way on each endpoint.  That's why Traffic Manager profiles have endpoint monitoring settings configured at the profile level, not the endpoint level.
It appears your case is an exception--you need to configure a different monitoring path for each of your endpoints.  To do this, you should use
'nested' Traffic Manager profiles.  Create a child profile for each endpoint (with endpoint monitoring settings particular to that endpoint) and then join them in a parent profile.  Endpoint health will propagate up from child to parent and should
give the behaviour you're looking for.
There's no downside: We bill only for the actual monitored endpoints and actual queries received (so no extra costs), and the parent-child link will be unwound within the Traffic Manager name servers (so no extra latency).

  • Using BEA Weblogic Portal with Sun Access Manager

    Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has had experience with using Weblogic Portal (versions 8.1 or 9.2) with Sun's Access Manager tool (part of the Identity Management suite).
In particular, I would like to know what access control tasks were performed through access manager, and which were performed portal-side.
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi
Has any one explored the below question.
Is WLP 9.2 compatible with Sun Access Manager?
If yes, please let know the details.
    Thanks
