Using TASCAM US-122 with GarageBand...doesn't seem to work

And not only with GarageBand...the software that the US-122 came with isn't even picking up the signals omitted from the TASCAM itself. I hooked up a keyboard to my TASCAM using a cable (I'm not sure what it's called...but it's the same thing you would use to connect a guitar with an amp), plugging each end into the INPUT (TASCAM) and OUTPUT (keyboard) jacks. The interface is showing me signs that the connection to and from the keyboard works via flashes on a green LED...but when I try to clarify the connection on my computer, the software (tuner, buffer, etc.) won't show any signs of connection. The USB cable is connected, I set my sound up exactly the way the instruction manual for the TASCAM said to, but it's just not picking up. It could be the interface itself, however...I can't hear anything when I plug a pair of headphones into the US-122. Do I have to use a MIDI cable, or is my interface not operating properly? Help me, please!

You didn't mention the kind of track in GB you are trying to create, but if you are connecting the keyboard with a guitar chord to the Tascam, you will need to set up a Real Instrument Track in GB to hear anything. If your keyboard has a midi out, use a midi cable to the midi input of the Tascam, create Software Instrument Track, and you will hear something. But with a guitar chord, it won't send the right signal to a Software Instrument Track. The headphone jack in the Tascam monitors the signal coming back to it out of GB (if you choose the US-122 as your monitor in GB's preferences), so you wouldn't hear your keyboard if the track is not set up correctly. It could be the drivers, but since you didn't mention the type of keyboard or the type of GB track, I thought that might be a possible answer as well.

Adding users to group www with NetInfo doesn't seem to work

I've added several users to the www group using NetInfo. As you can see, it seems to have worked:

Any ideas as to how I might get the addition of the group to actually kick in? The system won't let either user assigned the www group edit files with group www.

I wouldn't edit the www group if I were you. That group is used internally by OS X and meddling with it could have unintended consequenses.
I recommend creating your own custom group and adding the users you want to it. Netinfo Manager is not the easiest tool to use for this. Instead, download the Server Admin Tools from Apple and use Workgroup Manager. It makes creating custom groups a snap.

Auto eject volume with SuperDuper doesn't seem to work

Not sure if there's a problem with my system or what. I use SuperDuper to backup and create a clone of my MacBook Pro and have checked the feature for SuperDuper to eject the mounted volume after the backup is complete. Once the backup is finished, I quit SuperDuper and the icon for my external hard drive then disappears from the Desktop. But the external drive is STILL spinning and doesn't stop -- even if wait a minute or so to keep checking it. Fearing that I will damage the drive, I then go to Disk Utility to select the drive there and eject it. It stops spinning and I disconnect the firewire cable.
I have already contacted SuperDuper. All they can tell me is the feature works for them and that SuperDuper sends the call to Disk Utility to unmount the volume. If so, why would it still appear in Disk Utility when I go there?
Any insights are appreciated.

Can't say, as I don't have Aperture installed- actually did, but trial ran out- to test definitively.
 
 Either someone with same experience will come along and say, or you could try a small controlled experiment to see if perhaps you didn't select All photos on importing the xmp file, etc.

"Always allow" with Keychain doesn't seem to work after Keychain update?

After updating the Keychain with the latest update, all my internet programs keep on asking for permission to use the Proxy settings , almost every time I wake the computer from sleep. I don't think this was the case before the Keychain update.
Anyone else?

Here's a possible solution. Make sure that the "login" keychain and the username keychain do not lock automatically.
Go to Keychain access, select the "login" keychain, then go to the "Edit" menu and click "Change Settings for Keychain 'login'". When this opens, UNclick the ticks in the two boxes about locking after 5 minutes, etc. Do the same thing for the username keychain.
This SEEMS to be solving my elemental problem of constantly being asked for the Keychain password when opening Safari or checking for email in Mail.
In addition, when you open Keychain Access, be sure that both the "login" and username keychains are manually clicked "open," that is, if you're computer is secure, as at home.

Lightroom 4 resizing on export feature - using the "long edge" resize option - doesn't seem to work

In previous versions of Lightroom (prior to 4), when I used the resize feature while exporting, I often used the "long edge" value to resize.
Previously, when I selected 2500 as the "long edge" value, I would receive exported JPGs in a size of something like 2500x1650 or so for landscape shots and 1650x2500 for portrait shots.
With LR 4 (not sure if this started with the RCs or 4.0), using the same settings, I'm getting landscape shots that are 3700x2500 and portrait shots that are 1650x2500. This is acting more like I said I wanted a dimensional resize of _____ X 2500 instead of long edge of 2500.
I tried playing around with some of these settings, but nothing seems to give me the old behavior of 2500 on the long edge, even though that's what I've set it for.
Anyone else seen this type of issue?
I'm currently running LR 4 RC2, but also noticed this on RC1, but not sure of 4.0. I'm a Mac user, running the current version of Lion (10.7.3) on a 2010 Mac Pro.

With RC2 on Windows 7 (64 Bit) I get 2500x1667 for landscape and 1667x2500 for portrait, as expected. Seems to be an issue in the Mac version only.
A workaround might be to use "dimensions" instead and leave one of the fields empty (LR inserts "0" there, but one cannot enter "0" manually). I think this is equivalent to "long edge", but I am not 100% sure (edit: ok, I think I am nearly sure that it is).

How to reflect db changes - Verify Database doesn't seem to work

I have changed a database (MS SQL Server) column from varchar 255 to varchar 1000, but the designer doesn't pick up the change.
I read that db changes can be picked up by using 'Verify Database' feature. It doesn't seem to work for us though. Is there any configuration to turn on for the feature to work properly or any work-around to refresh the database changes?
We are making the database connection using JDBC (JNDI) option since the report is being used in a Java web application.
Any comments or insights will be very much appreciated!

Are the reports connecting directly to the database table, or is it a stored procedure, business view, universe being used?
==> Through a business view.
By the way, after trying so many things, I was able to figure out the reason. Since the report is using a view, not directly the table, the view itself had to be recompiled to reflect the table changes so that the view could pass the changes to the report. It was a very good thing to know. Your last question could have been a very helpful insight for this issue! Thank you so much again!

How do I use a bluetooth headset with garageband? I can't get it to work after many tries.

I can pair the headphones with the computer but the sound from GB is distorted and muffled. I can barely hear it. The set works with iTunes, but not with GarageBand.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Anyone using the Tascam DM-3200 with Logic? Sure seems like an easy solution combination of converters and DAW control, plus onboard effects.

I have this combination. I like it so far. I'm not really a "mixer" person but I am resolute in learning how to use this thing in depth!
Anyways, as far as controlling Logic, I got it working pretty easily. It seems that the faders don't seem as "sensitive" as my Logic Control (I think I mean resolution, perhaps?). I also have not played with the Tascam enough to know what other features are mapped out besides just level faders. It is very easy to switch between a fader layer and the Mackie control layer: just one button press. One thing though is if I have logic set to auto-sync in, and play, it will receive some timecode from somewhere and then stop after 2 bars. Don't know why this is, and it means I'll have to disable the Tascam's midi if I want to sync Logic to, say, Protools.
I connect my old 828 via Adat to Tascam and it sounds so much better than the Analog ins to the Tascam, so I'm happy about that. I have also the 8 Analog input card so I have a total of 24 Analog Ins which is nice too.
If you have any specific questions, I'll try to asnwer them, but so far, i like the combination a lot. My one complaint - they put the Control Room volume way up at the top of the mixer. My keyboard (Roland XV88) protrudes a bit from the front of the mixer, so i can see myself getting back spasms if I reach that volume control a lot!! I guess I'm shorter than the average user! Anyways, the mixer sounds good enogh to my ears.

I've tried using Caleb's approach (which is the same as I used with Lion), but the programme doesn't respond now that I have installed Mountain Lion.
My problem is that I do not want to use IE7 but that a programme I need regular access to will only allow IE7 and I've been told by the developers that it is too expensive to upgrade this programme to allow it to be used by other browsers.
So, my puzzle remains the same. I could access IE7 and use the programme using Caleb's solution with Lion. I can't do the same with Mountain Lion. I do (I think!) understand your point about the programme requiring IE7 specifically, but if it worked on Lion, why isn't it working on Mountain Lion? Or was I just lucky before?
I'll try mende1's approach, though I doubt I'm technical enough to virtualise anything!

Most microphone output a low voltage signal that must be put through a preamp.
The computer needs to have a line voltage signal level instead.

you can also get a splitter cable that goes in to your in/out port so you can have 2 (or more) separate ports
