Using the 9i client's provider towards Oracle8i

Will the OraOLEDB provider supplied in the Oracle9i client function towards an Oracle8i server?
And do I gain anything from it: Is the Oracle9i provider more stable, or more feature-rich, even towards an Oracle8i server?
Thanks for any answer.

  • I'm trying to distribute a DB Application using the Instant Client provided

    Hi!!
I'm trying to distribute a DB Application using the Instant Client provided by Oracle.
I've checked the FAQ of Oracle and says the Instant Client supports all existant versions of Oracle.
But I've also seen in another posting that the oci.dll needs the same Oracle version file it was created with.
I need to distribute an application that provides all the 8i, 9i and 10g versions.
Do I have to distribute the oci.dll for each version?
I just wanted to check if this was true.
One more question, when I uncompress the Instant Client, many files appear from which
I only left oci.dll, oraocci11.dll and oraociei11.dll and erased them all, but the program
    still works. Is it ok?
    thanx

I am not sure what you mean if you say that you "need to distribute an application that provides all the 8i, 9i and 10g versions".
If you mean that you want your application to be able to access Oracle Databases of versions 8, 9 and 10, then you can use Instant Client 10.2.0.4 which is able to connect to all of them.
If your application does not need more than the three DLLs you mention to run, that should be fine.

  • Sending an email using the gmail client on the iPhone

    Hello,
When I send an email using the gmail client on the iPhone, the message I send then shows up in my 'in box' and not my 'sent' box. Mail app on my computer behaves in the same manner. Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks for your help.

Hi, its because gmail treats each message as a "conversation" rather than emails sent or recieved. so your sent email will say "from me" all in the same inbox. check this on the web based gmail...

my mac's launchpad is working but i am not able to use the apps that are provided in the launchpad

Well, everything that you have bought with her Apple ID prior to getting your own Apple ID is forever hers. Apple will not transfer content from one ID to another. But in the case of the Mac, contact iTunes Customer Service and request that they send your issue to the Account Security Team and ask that the Mac be released form your mother's account so you may register it with your account. Then you can accept the iLife apps into your account for any future updates.

  • Using the same client for both regfree and out-of-proc COM

    Hi,
    Here is the context:
    1. We have the same set of COM objects that can be deployed as in-proc COM servers (dlls) or out-of-proc COM servers (exe).  In-proc servers are called through regfree COM.
    2. We have test projects that use the in-proc COM servers through regfree COM.
I would like to use the same test client projects for both regfree and out-of-proc COM servers (but not at the same time). For example, I would like to first run the client using regfree COM, then delete the in-proc dll and register the out-of-proc com server,
and then run the client again without having to recompile.  But I have not found a way to do this.
Instead, what I have to do is modify the project settings of the test client project, removing the regfree stuff (the manifest dependencies) before I can use the test client project with the out-of-proc server.
Is there a way to do this without recompiling?
FYI, I have tried regfree COM by changing the client project's Project->Properties->Linker->Manifest file->Additional Manifest Dependencies, or by changing the client project's Project->Properties->Manifest Tool->Input and Output->Additional
Manifest Files.  Either way works with regfree COM.  And either way I have to remove those settings before making it work with out-of-proc COM (and hence recompiling, which is what I am trying to avoid).
    Thanks,
    Nick

Try Manifest Tool > Input and Output > Embed Manifest = No, and change Linker > Manifest File > Manifest File to drop ".intermediate" in the middle (or just rename the file after the build).
A manifest doesn't have to be embedded into the executable, it could be a standalone file named like ApplicationName.exe.manifest and sitting in the same directory next to the .EXE. Then you can simply delete or rename it back and forth to switch between
    registered and reg-free COM.

  • Using the SAF client from the wlfullclient.jar in Tomcat or Jetty?

I'm trying to use the SAF client in Tomcat and Jetty and if I use the wlfullclient.jar I get the following error when I start the application:
java.lang.InternalError: error initializing kernel caused by: java.lang.AssertionError: Duplicate initialization of WorkManager
If I use the "thin" client jars everything works fine. Unfortunately I need to be able to use the full client in some cases. Is there some way to get this to work or is there a conflict between the Weblogic classes and the other Servlet containers?
Edited by mhellkamp at 08/30/2007 3:42 PM

I believe the conflict here is with the Tomcat/Jetty WorkManager. I don't think the client was inteneded to run insides another container. That's why you're getting that error of duplicate initialization of WorkManager.
Why not replace the Tomcat/Jetty with another WebLogic instance? :)

  • Can v use the same Client for setting the ALE ??

Can i use the same client like 080 for my ALE configuaration ?

Configuring is a Cross-Client(Client Independent) activity.
Check whether you have necessary access/authorizations to Configure.
This should be always done in Development client.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it okay to use the mail client?

I have not been using the mail client that came on my iMac for fear of downloading malware and other troublesome attachments that I get on my pc account. Am I being over cautious?

I'd say yes - it's not simply your email client - it's your ISP as well. Use the filters available, see what protection your ISP offers and use it all and then go for it! And, be careful who you share your email address with - I rarely have a problem and PC virus attachments can't hurt your Mac; the most they'll do is something bad to a PC user's machine if you forward it.

  • Installing and using the instant client

Hi, we are having some troubles with understanding how to use the instant client.
We are using a windows client, connection to our Oracle database via odbc, so we can make some staticstics.
We used to use the full oracle client 8 install, but when that gave us some troubles, so we wantedto switch to a newer release, and saw that there was an instant client. Thinking that i didnt need to install the full oracle client i downloaded the basic package and the odbc addon.
I unzipped the two archieves in c:\oracleodbc on a clean computer.
I added the c:\oracleodbc path to the %path%
I added TNS_ADMIN system variable pointing to c:\oracleodbc
    i ran the odbc_install.exe program.
I would now think that i could access the oracle database via odbc without having to install the full oracleclient, but it does not work.
When i try to add a odbc connection in microsoft odbc manager i get the following error when i choose the oracle odbc driver:
"The setup routines for the Oracle in instantclient10_2 ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126"
When i click ok to that i get a new error window with the title: "Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed" and the error text:
"Could not load the setup or translator library"
I was not planning to use any TNS files, but just use the quickconnect string, to connect to the right oracle service.
Do i still need to install the full client for it to work or what ?
    Hope someone can help out.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm replying to an old thread, but did any of you ever got this resolved?
I've got a fresh Windows 2003 Server install, from which I'd need to establish an ODBC connection to an Oracle database.
I've downloaded Instant Client Basic and ODBC add-on, unzipped them into D:\oracle\instantclient10_2\ , added the path into PATH, TNS_ADMIN and ORACLE_HOME environment variables and run the odbc_install.exe successfully.
Trying to create an ODBC connection (System DSN) results in "The setup routines for the Oracle in instantclient10_2 ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126".
I don't have MFC71 on the server and I couldn't figure out where to get those - I won't install MS Visual .NET just for this. MFC42 appears to be included in the OS.
Where can I get an older version of Instant Client instead?

  • When configuring a datasource for Oracle using the thin client, I get an Oracle error.

We have had no problems using Oracle up to this point, and have been using ColdFusion and Oracle very happily for a long time.
Due to security requirements where the ColdFusion server is hosted, the following changes were made to the Oracle client on the Oracle RDMS machine which caused ColdFusion to be unable to connect.
In the sqlnet.ora file, we had to add the follwing line:
    SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION = 10
That parameter was required, it is not optional and we cannot lower it.
    Info about our ColdFusion Server:

    Adobe Driver Version
    4.1 (Build 0001)
    We are using Oracle 11.2.0.3
Once that change is in place, connections from our ColdFusion server get refused with the following error:
    ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol
I have verified that I can connect to the database with our credentials, and verified that the connection is valid:
From the local server's ODBC Data Source Administrator console, I create a system DSN using the Oracle OCI client driver (ojdbc6.jar) by indicating that the TNS Service name is the same as defined in the TNSNames file, and it tests out fine.
Everything I have found on the net indicates that I would need to make a change to the Client, but the Client in this case is the ColdFusion server.  It doesn't seem like other than the fact that it seems to be using the correct driver, that it is making any use of any of the additional settings, including those found in the sqlnet.ora file.
HELP!  I don't know where else to go... i don't believe that this is an Oracle error, since everything seems to be functioning correctly.  I believe this to be a ColdFusion issue.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you VJ, however that didn't provide any help.  There are no pointers at all within that post.
Please keep in mind that I don't believe this to be an Oracle issue.  The Oracle client is functioning fine when I use the ODBC tools in windows to verify the connection.
I can google, "SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION = 10" and get a billion links that say basically nothing too.
I believe this is the way ColdFusion is configured to use the Oracle drivers... Which is why I can't ask Oracle, they'd just tell me to go to Adobe!
But, I have searched Oracle Support, and there wasn't much there either, so I am turning to the community in hopes that someone has seen this and solved it.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Receiver Determination is using the wrong client

From this message, I can see that for some reason the sap client is set to be 001, where I really need it to be set to 100.
I have no idea where such a setting is made. Can somebody please advise me?
    Kind Regards,

    Hi Anthony,
Can you give some details of your end to end scenario ?
What is your sender system - XI - receiver system ?
Please give some details of scenario ?
Is it file to file scenario  OR  you are using any R/3 System also ?

  • CX300 Polycom Phone using the Lync Client, not relinquishing computer audio.

    Hello,
I am lead technician for a university library, and we have just recently upgraded our phones in our building to CX300s and CX600s Polycom VoIP phones.
First I would like to say that I have posted this issue on the Polycom Community site and they suggested that I post this in the Microsoft Endpoint forum.  I could not find that section, and since Lync is apart of office now, I posted it here.
We have a recurring issue with the CX300 phone with several of our faculty.  The phone is taking control of the audio on the computer and it will not relinquish it.  We tried using speakers, headphones of all platforms,  (USB, 3 1/4 jack,
etc...), reinstalling the sound driver, looking at the settings in BIOS, but the sound always is comes from the phone.  There were instances where we could get headphones to work, and sometimes a sound bar / traditional desktop speakers, but there is
one faculty member where everything that we have tried has failed.   All of these users are on Dell Optiplex 760s or higher, and we are using the onboard sound (front and back ports in some cases).  They are all connecting the phones through the
Lync client.  All of these computers are also running a Windows 7 Service Pack 1 build.  Any insight to this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Do you mean the speaker is the speaker of cx300 and phone is the telephone receiver of cx300?
There is a speaker button on the cx300 to switch the voice coming out from telephone receiver to speaker.

  • Unix/Linux: How can other OS-users use the Instant Client?

    Hello,
I have a question concerning the practical use of Instant Client. I'm new to this topic and followed the installation guide for Instant Client and installed the software from CD as "oracle"-user belonging to "oinstall"-group.
    My question:
How can I now grant access to the installed libraries which belong "oracle:oinstall" with a completely different user, lets say "tsmith" who belongs only to OS-group "users" ?
What is the most recommended way to grant access to other users?
(in the documentation I found the following statement "the only user accounts that should belong to the oinstall group are the Oracle software owner accounts. For example, the oracle user"....that would mean, it is not recommended to put the user "tsmith" into the "oinstall" group, isn't it?)
Please tell me, how do you grant the access to Instant Client from other user accounts in daily life?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
    Regards
    FireFighter

Oracle tends to be as restrictive with access permissions to the installed software, which is good in principle, but often leads to problems and bugs.
I'd say that if Instant Client is the only Oracle software you have installed in this Oracle Home, you can safely loosen the permissions on this Oracle Home.
I'd change directories to 0755, normal files to 0644 and executable files (files that have executable permission for the owner) to 0755.
