Using the aac converter

on my old computer, there was a function in the advanced menu called 'convert selection to aac' which would allow me to convert video files into music files so i could listen to them without having to watch the video. but then when i downloaded itunes onto my new computer, when i would try to convert my video selection it would say 'convert selection to ipod'. is this function still on here? thank you

You could try downloading a program called Wiretap, which will capture the sound if you play it. It will record as audio only, and you can lay it like that. Or import it into Final Cut, iMovie etc. and export it in that program as an audio file only. Not sure how you'd do it in iTunes though. I you have any of those other programs, that could work.

Are you converting a PDF to another format using ExportPDF, or converting a file to PDF? If you're using ExportPDF, the quality of the conversion depends on the quality of the original PDF file. dBpoweramp converter doesn't allow 24 bit files for Apple Lossless
iTunes doesn't keep the folder structure, is there any option to change that?

When iTunes does a format conversion, it stores the new file in an Album folder within an Artist folder. It does not matter where the original file is. It does not provide any other option.

After having installed Mavericks I have problems with PSCS5 and the RAW converter. The glider for Exposure goes back to zero, when I use the fill in glider.

Single click on the Home button. Then double click on the Home button. In the recently used row, touch and hold the Contact app till they start to wiggle and then tap the minus sing by the contacts app.
Also make sure the Contact program on your computer is closed.

Problem using the Plug-in, IE6

Me and my brother just started going to this site www.cokemusic.com, its a chat area. When I try to enter on my computer it says error on page in the status bar, I'm guessing its with the script they used for the site but my brother can get in and I can't. I then go to a site detecting plug-ins for the browsers, i check em all and they're workign all except the java one I was like, "Wierd I installed that already." So I go back and reinstall it and go back to the site and testing it again but it says "Not properly installed." I was like ....., so I came here hoping for some help. Please help me, I don't know whats wrong i've reinstalled the program several times.

I believe I found what is causing the problem in my case. I have a page running an applet and I created it running JDK 1.4.2 and used the HTML converter tool that comes with the JDK to generate the <object> and <embed> tag from the original <applet> tag.
When doing this it creates a clsid tag that is specific to the version of the JDK. This means you can only run it with the exact same version of the JDK/JRE and not with a newer version (such as 1.4.2_03 in my case). This is called 'static versioning'. The fix for this is to use dynamic versioning which involves using a different clsid tag in the page.

I have researched and found out that the AAC format rules over the MP3 format as fas as sound quality goes with lossy formats. Example: AAC at 128 is better than MP3 at 160 as so forth. My questions are: What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format? Will I be able to burn cd mixes with the tracks I import into itunes after importing using the AAC format? Does the AAC format have VBR like the MP3 format? Is there other ripping software such as dbPoweramp and Exact Audio Copy that does a better job ripping cd's in the AAC format? Please help!

It is a matter of opinion, but I suggest 256 kb/s, CBR, and leave all other settings on automatic.

Yes. Just put them in a playlist and burn.

EAC does a better job of correcting errors in damaged CDs, but for normal CDs iTunes does a fine job of ripping to AAC.

That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.

Using adobe DNG convert help me please!!!!!

I have Adobe CS5 and have just bought a panasonic FZ200. Rawimages cant be opened from this camera in CS5 so I have downloaded the DNG converter. All is well on my laptop but on the PC which is where I would really like to edit my images I keep getting an error message 'the source folder doesnot contain any supported camera raw files'. They are the same files! I have copied them on to both machines so why does the converter not see them? My laptop runs windows 7 and the PC runs Vista - is this significant? I am really fed up with this , have been trying to get these images edited all day!!!!

I think the problem you are having is that, when browsing using the DNG converter, you are opening the folder that contains your raw images. Notice that the prompt asks for the FOLDER that contains your raw images. Choose that folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter should convert the images that are in that folder. If you only want to convert one or two images, drag/drop them onto the icon that you use to start the DNG converter.

Has anybody successfully used the META2TTF utility?

Hey there, I'm trying to use a new function (new as of 11.5) called META2TTF (found in the 11.5's Docutoolbox reference guide), it converts Portrait Metacode Xerox fonts to a Windows TrueType Font.
I'm trying to use the utilty to, as my explanation above would suggest, convert Xerox fonts we own to their TrueType version so our users can see what their efforts in Documaker would look like while working on their sections, etc. However, in using the command line function, I keep getting the message "Device font in non-portrait orientation not converted." I'm pretty confident the font(s) I'm trying to convert are portrait oriented, so I'm just wondering if anybody else has by chance used this utility so I can figure out if it's user error or whether I need to open a ticket with Oracle...
i used the font converter wizard last week in 11.5 to successfully convert all of my Xerox fonts to PCL so I can print locally and see the true representation of what I create in Studio, but TTF is not an option in the wizard (unless it's just not called TTF and I'm missing the proverbial "boat" on this one).

I think there might be a mistake in the documentation which says to use /I= and /O= for the input Xerox font name and the output TrueType font name. Actually, you don't use /I= and /O=, just specify the input Xerox font name and the output TrueType font name.
For example,
meta2ttf C:\metafonts\HM108P.fnt "C:\My Fonts\HM108P.TTF"

About the AAC Encoder

I chose to use the AAC encoder. But after I encode a song, it appears to be .m4a .I thought it should be .aac .What is happening?

Nothing unusual: iTunes uses .m4a as extension for unprotected AAC files + .m4p for those that are purchased/protected.

So how long does it take to load a 160GB iPod using the Convert Higher ...

I have a 160GB Gen 5 that I bought when first released back in the day when they were $400. Through a number of changes, the most recent being the advent of the Convert Higher Bitrate Songs to 128bit AAC feature, I decided to look at what more music I could store. After all was said and done, I ended up with a bit of a disaster with cover art not being properly applied to the music being played. I decided to *restore the ipod* based on suggestions in the discussion boards, and equally important was following the hints and tips here.

The advice is especially important in very large library situations to ensure you have uniqueness in the albums you want to display. Hadn't really given it much thought until I had the ability to see the individual albums for the 40K songs on the iPod via the cover art view.
Finally the point of the post...

Finally to lend a bit more credence to the performance concern, my 32GB iPhone 3GS for only about say 28GB of music takes about 24 hrs to load from a 2.2GHz dual core intel laptop, again using the convert higher bitrate option.

With AC power adapter it takes 3-4 hours for a full charge. With the USB charger it takes 9-0 hours for a full charge. I am not happy with them removing the AC charger and other accessoreis at all. It's business but it still stinks.
I know I would rethink my purchase but would most likely end up buying the Micro anyway

The AAC/.m4a codec used in iTunes

Hi everybody, I just want to ask a few questions about the AAC codec used in iTunes 7.
I have read on the page (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/aac/) that the iTunes AAC codec has been developed by Dolby Labs but what I would really like to know is does this codec actually evolve (like new implementations, improvements of quality)?
AAC has been around in iTunes since 2002 or 3 if I'm not mistaking - so is today's codec better than the one used back then or is it the same?
I couldn't find any related information about this in the Apple site. All I could read about an eventual 'evolution' of the iTunes AAC codec was on hydrogenaudio's forum dedicated to listening tests (periodically comparing various audio codecs). The only update on the Apple website (shown above) regarding aac I've noticed since 2002/early 2003 is that recently the link to www.aac-audio.com (which wasn't functional for quite a while anyway) has been removed.
I'm asking all this not just out of curiosity but also because throughout this year I've converted virtually all of my CD's in AAC 128 kbps using the iTunes/QuickTime 7 codec and I just wanted to know is it still the best codec around at 128 kbps.

I am aware that AAC is part of the Mpeg-4 audio specs and it has been ratified as such, what I really want to know is has there been any essential improvements made in the iTunes AAC codec since its adoption by Apple (algorithms, implementation, whatever) resulting in better sound quality (through increased compression efficiency)?
I have started a similar topic in the "iTunes for Apple" forum but only one user has replied to me this far.
I could also post links to the listening tests mentioned above where iTunes 6's AAC codec came in 6th place in the 128 kbps category earlier this year. (Hope it's not against this forum's policy.)

How to install and use the CP2102 USART to USB Converter?

First off, I did a quick search and found that some people had had success in that the cp210x driver was already installed on their machines. I did a modprobe and it returned nothing (not an error).
I searched around on the net a bit and found a very useful USART to USB converter bridge (http://www.nexuscyber.com/cp2102-usb-to … Mgod5UQAdQ). The CP2102 is a programmable device with many settings insofar as the data framing is concerned. As such, a driver for the device must be used to interface and modify these parameters.
On the Silabs website I found this driver (http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/page … ivers.aspx) for linux (kernel > 3.x.x). The problem is that this driver is just a single C program with zero documentation. An include make file is about as useful considering it has a single line in it that fails (for me) at run-time.

There is no documentation aside from:

Can anyone provide some guidance on the steps to install this driver (or at least where to look) and why there is such a lack of documentation? Are there assumptions here that I am not aware of? How is anyone suppose to use this? If you look in the source there are structures being used as arguments to functions that are never defined as far as I can tell. Perhaps they are part of the header files included at the top, but I could not find some of those on my machine either.
Has anyone had success using this device?

First, I think you have a mismatched Baud. Check your settings in GtkTerm. It could also be the uController. I know you said you have it set for 9600 Baud, but are you sure? The divisor settings are dependent on your clock frequency. Are you sure you are using the correct divisors for the frequency of your crystal? And are you using a crystal, ceramic oscillator, or external oscillator for your time base?
I did not think the internal RC oscillators were that bad off, so I was using the internal 8MHz (DIV8 = 0 fuse bit). Taking your advice I just refused the AVR and set it to use a 20MHz clock (external crystal oscillator) to no avail. Which gives a a UBRR register value of 129 corresponding to normal speed (U2Xn = 0). This is all computed for me at compile-time via this formula:
20,000,000/(16*9600) - 1 = 129.2 ~ 129 truncated.
That the two devices can communicate tells me they both might be using the same wrong Baud.
I was also suspicious of this .. I do not have a trivial way to test this though. Perhaps some workaround using timers is about the best I can do; no oscilloscope here. Doing a quick high-level test I did find something rather interesting though. Both devices are set to run at 9600 baud. One device is operating at 8MHz (internal oscillator) and the other is using an external 20MHz crystal. I am getting UART communication between the devices, but certainly not the characters I'm sending..
The other problem is that I think you have "Local Echo" turned on in GtkTerm. This places the system in "Half Duplex" mode in which data are not expected to be echoed from the Atmel. That you are getting two characters when the pins are shorted tells me you get the local echo and the loopback. Then the loopback is missing, you still get the local echo. Also, make sure you have parity turned off.
GTKterm does not actually show you what you are typing into the terminal. That is, when you type a character then nothing is displayed to the screen. Presumably this character is sent out as you type it. I was under the impression that local echo would just echo what I type to the screen as well as send it out. Thank you for the clarification.
