Using the built in encode selected video files won't sync to iPad

Hi, how is it that when I right click on a video file and choose 'encode selected video files' then select 1080p sometimes they will sync to my ipad and sometimes they won't. It seems odd that my ipad air can record and edit 1080p but mavericks encode option doesn't make compatible 1080p video files.
The video files are recorded on a camcorder and I wanted to put them on my ipad to use ios's imovie.
Any ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks

Restrictions are Off on the iPad. I was able to get the video onto my iPad by dragging and dropping it from the Playlist into the iPad on iTunes. I never had to do it that way before, but it worked. Very odd.

  • Chose "encode selected video files" to create apple pro res, but only gave me audio. now files are gone.

Hello, I chose the "encode selected video files" from the finder to convert some H.264 files to Apple ProRes. It outputed only audio (but still as a .mov file). And I also selected to delete the source files after finished, so now the originals are gone and i'm left with only audio. is there any way to get back my original files?

Sounds like you selected Audio Only
If you regularly back up your system, you could locate the copy of the original file and restore it .

  • MPEG-4 video file won't sync with iPod

    Hi,
I ripped a home made DVD (19 mins) using Handbrake to MPEG-4 and dragged the file over into the Movies area of iTunes. It's ticked in the left hand column.
Problem is I cannot make it copy over to my 30 gig 5G iPod Video. All of my music and photos sync just fine - iTunes set to automatically update.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

How did you convert the .M4v to an .MP4 file with the program? I've been trying and it wont. It's odd that you can download the .M4v file, but it wont automatically add to the video ipod.

Using the new iPad, what’s the best way to watch video files (away from home) which are stored on a NAS (WD My Book Live)?  Any help would be appreciated!

Before you go, move the files to I tunes and sync them down.  There is no viable way to stream from your nas drive to the pad.

  • Seeking best strategy for maintaining multiple encodes of video files

So here's what I've been doing...
Say that I have a home video that I've made in iMovie, shared it out to AppleTV format for my AppleTV, and imported to iTunes. I'd like to sync this to my iPod Touch. Ok, I need to convert it for iPod, no issues there. But, of course, now I have two copies of the same content in iTunes.
To distinguish them in iTunes and on my streamed AppleTV, I add "iPodTouch" or "AppleTV" to the Name of the file, and choose accordingly to view on the AppleTV or sync to the iPod Touch.
    My question to the group:
Is this the right way of thinking ?
Also, given AppleTV's lack of organizing my Shared Movies on the TV screen, of course I'm faced with 2x movie titles in the same vertical listing, only with different title suffixes to distinguish them.
Is this how everyone is generally managing their iPod/Apple TV content ?
I strictly stream to AppleTV at this point, but am aware that I can selectively sync files to the AppleTV and thus have the built-in option to stream, but won't I still be faced with the multiple titles issue when I see (unsync'd...aka streamed) titles ?
Wondering what everyone's strategy is here....
    Thanks much in advance !

If you uncheck a movie by its name it won't get listed on the tv. So there isn't actually any need to give the two versions of the same movie a different name.
So for the movie encoded for tv, check its name and it will appear on the tv.
For the movie encoded for ipod, uncheck its name so it won't appear on the tv and add it to a playlist for syncing with your ipod.

  • How do I use the built-in camera or webcam?

I know this may sound very elementary but there was no documentation with my Mac when I bought it new (except a thin flimsy pamphlet with very baic stuff in it) and the help menu comes up with nothing at all when I search for web cam, webcam or isight.
Where do I go to learn about how to use the built-in camera/web cam as a camera and also as a web cam?
    Thank you

There should have been a seventy page booklet in the box with your new iMac.  If yours is the latest version, clicking here will download it if you cannot find the physical copy.  If yours is an older iMac model, you can search for the correct manual from the iNtel iMac Support Page > "Manuals" link.
After that, Mac 101 is a great web-based information source.  If you don't need general help, take a look here for specifics about each application of interest.
VortexBoy wrote: ... and the help menu comes up with nothing at all when I search for web cam, webcam or isight....
If your posted info is correct that you are running Mac OS X (10.7.3), you should be able to get started by using your Mac's Finder > Help menu command.  Searching for "camera" (without quotation marks) on my 10.7.3 Mac returns Mac's Help article entitled "Use your Mac’s built-in camera."  This is the web version of the same help.
Other apps, like QuickTime Player (the Lion QT 10.x version), and iMovie (part of iLife that came with your Mac) can also use your iMac's camera.
iMovie Help or this web page version of the same help will explain how to "Record video directly into iMovie".
Use QTX Player's File > New Movie Recording menu command to record video with it.  You can configure size and quality of the recorded material by using QTX's preferences as shown in this image:

Different apps do not all work the same.  For function-specific help, search Help in separate camera applications; i.e., after you launch Photo Booth, iChat, QTX, iChat, etc., use the individual app's Help menu command to search for more info on the camera or what you want to do.
This article offers great basic tips about how to position, light, and use built-in cameras.  Although its subject shows it was written for iMacs, it is equally applicable to other reader's inbuilt Apple cameras, too.
For more specialized functions than those offered by the camera software already included with your Mac, you can search the Mac App Store for other apps that can use your camera.
For webcam help with iChat, use Apple's iChat Support page if you need more help that that provided in the dialog boxes and iChat > Help on your Mac.
To use your camera with FaceTime, search your Mac's FaceTime > Help or these web versions of the same Help topics that should be available on your Mac.
Skype or other third party webcam apps will offer their own Help menus of varying quality.  In additon to these app Help services, some apps offer comprehensive Support services via their web page.  If you decide to add Skype to your Mac, you can click here to review the excellent Skype Support pages.
If you need to start a new topic for specific questions after you get started, give as much detail about what you want to do and what you may have already tried unsuccessfully.  We will offer specific suggestions based on the details you provide.
    Enjoy your new Mac!

  • How can I use the built-in Isight camera with an external camera (usb/firewire) at the same time?

How can I use the built-in Isight camera and an external video camera at the same time?
I'm wanting to stream over Oovoo/Skype/etc. using 2 cameras.
    Thanks

Simple question with a not so simple answer.
    (a) If you mean that you want to run multiple apps simultaneously using a different camera with each app, you may encounter computing power limitations.  Digital video is processor intensive.  The only way to know if your Mac can do this it to try it.  If the video does not work together but each app works when it it the only app running, you are likely overloading your Mac's ability to process and/or move all the required data in your data bus.  You can get a better indication of whether this is the case by watching your Activity Monitor utility while running the apps you want to use.
    (b) If you mean that you want to have more than one compatible camera connected to your Mac simultaneously for ease of changing between video sources, some, but not necessarily all, apps you are using to operate your camera(s) allow you to select between your cameras.
How you select among connected cameras depends on which application you are using. Here is how camera selection works in a few examples:
    (1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see the "Camera" choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your cameras. In that case, consider the suggestions fromhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 for iSight problems or refer to your other camera's documentation for help.
This particular choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
    (2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie6 HD uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, and because my external iSight was not connected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting an additional Mac compatible webcam should allow you to choose either camera.
Other iMovie versions work slightly differently.
iMovie 9 (from iLife '11) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84285.html
iMovie 8 (from iLife '09) is slightly different as explained in this article:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
In general, you can use your Mac's help for the application in use to find out how to select among more than one connected camera.
    (3) Photo Booth in Snow Leopard 10.6.x and later uses the Photo Booth > Camera menu command to select which camera to use.
Note for readers with older Mac OS X: The previous version of Photo Booth that came with Tiger (10.4.x) is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless your built-in iSight is already occupied as the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use an external camera.
(If you have an external Firewire camera connected, it may be used in preference to any USB webcam. If that is a problem for you, merely disconnect the problem Firewire device.)
    (4) For FaceTime, launch the app and click the Video menu item.
If your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, a "Camera" section listing the cameras from which you can choose will appear there. Clicking on the desired camera name will let you select the one you want as shown in this image from my Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
If your Mac recognizes only one compatible camera, the "Camera" section will not appear in the Video menu, but FaceTime will automatically use the connected camera that is recognized by OS X.
    (5) I do not use Skype oir Oovoo.  For those or other apps, see Help for each app for info on how to select your desired camera.

  • Is it possible to use the built-in speakers when headphone connected?

I have a mini amp and speakers connected via the headphone jack on my late 2009 21.5" iMac.
First, is this the proper way to make this connection?
If I want to switch to use the built-in speakers, I can do so by unplugging the external amp. However, it seems that there should be a way to do this via software. But, I can't find it. Is it possible? If so, how?
I don't always want to make use of the external amp, I want to use it for music and videos, but not otherwise. And, I don't want to have to unplug it when it's not in use.
    Thanks.

    System prefs> sound> output.
select your internal speakers in there.
No need to unplug your mini amp.
This actually works on your Mac? I doubt it. This does not work on either the Early '06 iMac, nor the Early '09 Mac mini in my house. When anything analog is plugged into the audio-out port, the name of the device in Sys Prefs/Sound/Output simply changes from Internal Speakers to Headphones, there is no option for one or the other.
This has been asked over and over here, and I know of no way to do what the OP has asked.

Certainly it is unusual that you can still see the tables available in your MS Access database but cannot see the columns? I am assuming you are configuring an Open Statement step and are trying to use the ring-control to select columns from your table?
Can you tell me more about the changes you made to your file when you 'changed' it with MS Access? What version of Access are you using? What happens if you try and manually type in an 'Open Statement Dialog's SQL string such as...
    "SELECT UUT_RESULT.TEST_SOCKET_INDEX, UUT_RESULT.UUT_STATUS, UUT_RESULT.START_DATE_TIME FROM UUT_RESULT"
Is it able to find the columns even if it can't display them? I am worried that maybe you are using a version of MS Access that is too new for the version of TestSt
and you are running. Has anything else changed aside from the file you are editing?

  • Printing using the built-in print drivers launches a PowerPC App.

According to CNET: "Canon, Epson, and HP have all also announced that full universal binary drivers for their Apple peripherals will come with the iMac Core Duo as part of OS X 10.4."
So one would think that if you use said drivers printing would not require Rosetta. Alas - it does.
When I print using the built in drivers which are supposed to be Intel native I have noticed that PrintJobMgr is launched as a PowerPC application (I have been watching it in Activity Monitor). PrintJobMgr is Universal, so is lp and so is the App that gets created when you install the printer.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any thoughts? The driver that it is supposed to be using is the built in HP InkJet 2.7.1.

I didn't migrate from my powerbook - I only copied over a couple select files by hand (I rsync'd my iPhoto and iTunes and copied over my mail and documents).
I am fairly sure that I have the original HP (and supposedly Universal) drivers and I was aware of the migration bug. That is why I am concerned.
If you are using the built in drivers, print something while watching Activity Monitor. Does PrintJobMgr show up as Intel or PowerPC?
The printer in question is an HP 6840.

  • Can we use the built-in Row fetch for Multiple reports in a page?

I need to create a page with multiple report regions. Each of it is based on a table. Those tables are different. I somewhat remembered that we can NOT use the built in automatic row fetch process if there are multiple report regions, neither the built in DML process. You have to make your own fetch and insert/update/delete process if you intend to.
Also if I write my own row fetch and update processes, do I have to consider lock mechnism? or just simply write select and insert/update?
    Any input is appreciated.

I think I found the answer. Would Scott or other gurus take a look at the thread and confirm it, in case the limitation is not in 2.0?
    Re: automatic row fetch
What I am concered about is that the locking mechanism. If I have to write my own process to fetch and insert/update, other than the regular select and insert/update statements, do I have to put commit by myself, or htmldb can handle it automatically? Is there an example for this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a way to use the built-in Datalogging and programmatically log the front panel while the vi is running?

I would like to use the built-in Data Logging feature. There is the "Log at Completion" option, but is there a way to programmatically make a new log record while running? I looked around in VI server and couldn't find any methods that would do that. Currently, I am grabbing all of the front panel control references using VI Server and if there are any changes, the changed values are written to a log file along with a date/time stamp. I'm mostly dealing with buttons, which simply change from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0, so it's not too hard to visualize what was pressed. It works okay for reconstructing what happened, but it would be much nicer to use the built-in fe
ature because you can "replay" directly onto the front panel and actually see what the changes were. However, without being able to programmatically make a new log, it won't work for me.

    Jake,
    There are several options here.
I would suggest using your own code for datalogging. The datalogging you are referring to is primarily for debug, and one shot datalogs of front panel indicators (and controls?), not including graphs, etc.
If you go to the file functions, you will see a menu for datalogging. These functions will allow you to save your data, as you need it, simply, and in a compact format.
I recommend opening the datalog file, doing all your file operations, and closing the file before the program is complete. There are several examples of this in the examples database.
    Good luck

When using the built in web server, is there a way to specify a different error handler when you try to access a NON .CFM file? Right now I get the standard:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: filename.ext
Is there any setting to override this and direct the message to your own .cfm template? The missing template handler in the CF Admin work only for .cfm files.

The in-built web server for ColdFusion 8 is JRun. I am on ColdFusion 10, however, and so cannot offer hands-on advice. (CF10 replaced JRun with Tomcat.)
My guess is that you have to modify the file {CF_ROOT}/WEB-INF/web.xml. Don't forget to create a back-up first!
You may then proceed as follows.
    1) In the ColdFusion root (CF_ROOT), create the file myCustomFileNotFound.cfm. Give it some content, like
My custom File Not Found page. Current time: <cfoutput>#now()#</cfoutput>
    2) Open the file {CF_ROOT}/WEB-INF/web.xml in a text editor. Add the following error-handling specification just before the end tag </web-app>:
    <error-page>
    <error-code>404</error-code>
    <location>/myCustomFileNotFound.cfm</location>
    </error-page>
    Save the file web.xml.
    3) Restart ColdFusion. Test by browsing to a URL requesting filename.ext
