Using the Cisco Local Director

Hello All-
We are attempting to set up a server farm that is load balanced with the Cisco Local Director and are experiencing difficulties with some clients whose networks have multiple proxy servers. We have used both the generic sticky command as well as the cookie-insert sticky without total success. Our next option looks like we should put our own proxy server in front of the LD and use SSL. Has anyone experienced these problems and come up with a solution. Unfortunately we don't have weblogic clustering licenses so our state is lost whe a client gets redirected to a new server. Thanks for your time!

In directed mode, the client browsers are configured to point to a proxy to a virtual IP address on the Local Director. I know the Local Director does not support a real server that does not have a virtual address defined so it can't transparently forward like the CSS.

I would like to know if the Cisco Local Director redundancy feature can work between separate physical locations.

The two Local Director for redundancy needs to have the serial failover cable connected to each other for the heart beats. So your Local Director redundacy wiil not work even if they are more than few feet away.

  • Fmt:message not using the correct locale

    Hello,
I have a webapp which uses struts and jstl. I use the following code snipped to display localized strings
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt" prefix="fmt" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-html-el.tld" prefix="html-el"%>
    <fmt:message key="label.help"/>
My resource file is specified in struts-config.xml as follows:
    <message-resources parameter="com.ibm.psdui.resources.PSDText"/>
I currently have the base file PSDText.properties and a German version PSDText.properties_de.
If I have the language setting in my browser to de, I see the German strings. However if I set the languages to en-us followed by German, I still see the German strings. It seems like fmt:message is using the wrong locale. Just out of curiosity I replaced fmt:message to bean:message and I see the right localized strings. I have to use fmt:message. Am I missing some configuration setting or something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kumar

BTW... fmt doesn't support Struts, that I'm aware of... it's a JSTL tag library. So it probably does what I said because I'm not sure that java.util.ResourceBundle will load the default bundle for it... or maybe it does (I forget) but it could be just looking for properties files on it's own. So I don't think that setting message-resources in the Struts config file is going to make a difference if you aren't using the bean taglib.

  • Cisco local director

now that the local director is eos. can anyone suggest what could i use that would serve the same purpose as the local director for the 2950 switch?

The logical Cisco replacements would generally be the Content Services Switch (CSS 11500) or the Content Switching Module for the CAT 6000 (CSM)

  • Want to hear about vCAC when used with Cisco UCS Director... How are you seeing this done?

I have a client that has both VMware vCloud Automation Center, and Cisco UCS Director.
They wish to constuct a net-new (Greenfield) data center and are hearing from both VMware and Cisco.
I have researched, and found little regarding the merger of the two.
I realize that very likely vCAC is teh "main" management platform, while Cisco UCSD will handle the more "physical hardware" tasks.
REST API's will be leveraged as well.
What have you seen written and done in this space when using BOTH?
Please send me any thoughts or links to relevant data.
I am having a hard time locating good data so that I an advise the client in a good way.

    Bahi,
just to illustrate what mess this is, I tested for you on Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) using the same wide gamut monitor. Here are two screenshots from that experiment. I converted the screenshots from my display profile to sRGB to show you what I see and scaled down 50% (this is a 30" behemoth). First Leopard.
You see they are all the same, but different from the sRGB export you provided. The GB sticker is too blue and the tint on the car is wrong. I doubt anybody but a photographer would notice though.
    Next is Snow Leopard:
Here the 320 pixel, the 480 pixel and the 960 pixel image are different from the 720 pixel, the 720p and the 1080p ones. Neither is strictly correct as they are all different from the sRGB display. This is consistent with their being no real color management, just gamma corrections and color space transforms (video is usually not stored as RGB but as YUV, necessitating a transform for display). Annoying, but not much you can do about it.
Just doing some quick googling I came across many mentions of issues such as this. It clearly is just a big mess.

  • Anyone using the Cisco RV220W instead of the HH3?

    Hi there,
Has anyone had any experience good or bad of the Cisco RV220W router in place of the Home Hub?
It supports PPPoe so on paper should work.
I'm after a router that has wireless, can do VPN (IPSEC & PPTP) and dynamic DNS.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

Haven't used that router but as you say it supports PPPoE then it will work without any problems.
I've tested several different makes of router and not had a problem.

  • I can use the Cisco TelePresence Server MSE 8710 without VCS or CUCM

    Hi all,
We are planning install Cisco TelePresence Server MSE 8710 for our customer.
we haven´t install this equipment, then we need know if is possible install the Cisco TelePresence Server MSE 8710  standalone, like a MCU, without a CUCM or VCS.
    Regards,
    GSilva

It should be possible to reach the device via ip for sip and h323 without a call control,
but as the TPS does not have an IVR this might not work out for the typical IP dialing target group.
Even if its a bit outdated (seems not to be EOL though), the 8510 MCU can be an option as the stand alone IP support  might be better.
If you want to move to the TPS 8710 later you can migrate it later as well, its the same hardware.
It would be interesting to hear how the current deployment and setup looks
like and what benefits you see on deploying it without CUCM or VCS and how your requirements / use case are.
This here seems to be a special case, for new setups I would recommend to use CUCM, Conductor and TPS.

  • Firefox is configured to use the Cisco ScanSafe proxy but althought IE manages local webservices correctly, Firefox does not

We are testing Cisco ScanSafe, a SaaS proxy/web protection solution. You use it be filling in a proxy server on port 8080. In IE everything works fine but Firefox seems unable to distinguish local from internet sites. I have a host that I approach with http://bugzilla2 that Firefox keeps on sending through the proxy which it shouldn't as I have configured the exception in the no proxy setting to exclude 192.168.0.0/16.

go to '''TOOLS '''then '''OPTIONS''' then '''ADVANCED''' then '''NETWORK tab''' then '''SETTINGS tab''' and select the options '''NO PROXY''' click '''OK''' and '''OK '''again in the next screen. With that you have disabled the proxy settings.
''if you like to not disable the proxy settings choose'' : '''Auto-detect proxy settings for this network''' (it is in the same session)
    thank you

  • How to determine which locale uses the specific process

    Hi,
I would like to get to know which locale uses the specific process.
I mean that when the process starts it should use the current system locale.
Where I can check that information which locale are used by the running process?
I ask because I would like to make sure that for example when the locale are French or Japanese the process/deamon use the current locale.
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
currently we are in the process of consolidating our databases. One of the neccessary steps is to figure out which user connects to the database at all. That's easy, we implemented a logon-trigger and log the collected information into a separate table. It could have been even easier by turning on the built-in audit feature.
If a user with objects (e.g. tables, views, procedures) exists - but this user never connects to the database - does that automatically mean that these objects are not used at all? No need to say that this is not true. But how can we figure out if a connected user has selected an object of this user?audit would be a good choice.
Our porblem is that we have alot of schemas in our database - but the developers don't know if this schema is not used by an application or not (sad but true). Not sure what developer will do with used/not used application.
To enable auditing would be one choice to figure out if an object was ever used or not. What's wrong in auditing ?
Even though audit may have a footprint on performance, that would probably be less costly than any custom solution.

  • Home Use for the Cisco 1230 AG Model

Hi, Does anyone have instructions for using the Cisco 1230 AG Model at home i.e. using Home DSL or a Cable? So far, I assume I can hook a router into the cable modem, and
hook the AP into the router. Then, the AP will act as a DHCP server? If someone can help or point me to a doc, that would be great.

The router will act as a DHCP server, not the AP. Set up a DHCP scope on the router and put the AP on the router with a static address in the range of (but not the DHCP scope of) the vlan.
    for example, assume a 192.168.1.0 /24 subnet.
    network is x.x.x.0
    gateway is x.x.x.1
AP is .2 thru .10 (in case you want more!)
    These are statically assigned
DHCP on router should be configured starting at .11 or above

  • Local Director

Hi!, I have a question: Is there any way using CISCO Local Director instead of WebLogic Clustering feature ? because that our production folks insist on using "hardware" solution. We us iPlanet Web server + WebLogic Application Server in our application. Very appreciate if anyone can answer my question.

Not yet. First, I do not believe that there is a hardware load balancer
that "understands" WL stickiness, especially WRT failover. Only WL's
plug-ins understand that, so right now you must use them.
I expect that WL will eventually be able to route a request to the "right"
server if it shows up at the "wrong" server, meaning that eventually each WL
instance in a cluster could be used as the front-end of the cluster, so a
hardware solution could work very well for non-session requests (where it
doesn't matter which WL instance gets the requests) and for session requests
(where it must go to the "right" server) it will re-route automatically.
Right now I suggest using NAS to front the cluster; it appears to be the
best solution. If you use a hardware load balancer, then a group of Apache
servers on Linux would be as good or better of a solution to front the
cluster (i.e. load balancer distributes to a set of Apache servers that are
              working independently of each other).
