Using the "consolidate" function has deleted 50% of my music files

Hi there, Any help appreciated: I stupidly thought that because I had music files in a couple of locations as well as itunes that using itunes to consolidate them would solve the problem. As the itunes help menu says for "consolidating your library":+Depending on how you've imported songs, videos, and other items into iTunes, your library can include items that are located in various places on your computer's hard disk or other locations. You can make sure that copies of all the files in your iTunes library are in your iTunes folder so that, for example, it's easier to move your library to a new computer.+ Now itunes can't "find" at least 50% of my tunes because it clearly hasn't copied anything: they are GONE. Supposedly "Files located outside the iTunes folder remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in your iTunes folder". This has not happened. I have searched my hard drive and they haven't been relocated anywhere I can find em, not even the recycle bin, or down the back of the couch. When I try to play or "get info" on a song I get an error message saying "the song could not be used because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to try to locate it?" Not only has itunes deleted half my music but it also created a big pile of folders by artist, with lots of handy subfolders by album, that usually contain NOTHING. There appears to be no rhyme or reason which music it has deleted. Has this happened to anyone else and is there a way to "locate" my lost music files and undo this?

After rearranging, it may look like lots of files are missing but they're probably just tucked into the Unknown Artist folder, where iTunes stashes any poorly tagged MP3.
Rest assured, iTunes always asks before deleting files, and actually it asks if the user wants to keep the file or "move to Recycle Bin," so the user can always retrieve from the Recycle Bin if he changes his mind.

Using the Null function to delete an attribute from a user in the metaverse

RC1 Update 3 adds a new Null function, which (to me) sounds like it should flow a null value into the destination attribute. I have a case where i am flowing a date from SQL into the metaverse. Just for testing, I tried a basic flow of:
Null()->employeeEndDate
This seems to function the same as this:
""-employeeEndDate
Both will add the employeeEndDate attribute to the metaverse object with a blank (not null) value. To me, Null() seems like it should be equivalent of mventry("employeeEndDate").Delete, but it doesn't seem to. Ultimately, what I want is to flow the value in if it is present in my connector space, and delete it if it is not. Something like this:
IIF(IsPresent(TermDate),DateTimeFormat(TermDate,"yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss.000"),Null())
Anyone have any thouse on this? Is there an easier to way to do this that I am overlooking?

So here is a new update on this, with somewhat of a workaround. I ran into a scenario where I wanted to delete attributes upon removal of a sync rule. Unless I am missing something, this can't be done normally. When my sync rule is removed,
the attributes are no longer flowed from the MV to the CS, but they aren't removed from the object in the CS either.
My Scenario:
Only certain users should flow their location info to AD for display in the GAL.
My Solution (these aren’t the real Set/Rule/WF/MPR names, it just makes it easier to understand):
1.
Create two sets: “Show Info” & “Hide Info”
2.
Create Sync Rule: “Flow info to AD”
a.
Dependent on a Sync Rule “AD Base”
3.
Create Workflow “Apply Flow Info to AD” to apply “Flow Info to AD” Sync Rule
4.
Create MPR to apply the “Apply Flow info to AD” Workflow on Transition In to “Show Info”
5.
Create a new Metaverse attribute for people called “nullString”
6.
Create Sync Rule: “Null Info to AD”
a.
Dependent on “AD Base”
b.
Flows the nullString attribute to all AD attributes that need to be blanked out
7.
Create Workflow “Remove Flow Info to AD” to remove “Flow Info to AD” Sync Rule
8.
Create Workflow “Apply Null Info to AD” to apply “Null Info to AD” Sync Rule
9.
Create MPR to apply “Remove Flow Info to AD” and “Apply Null Info to AD” Workflows on Transition In to “Hide Info” set.
Obviously, you’ll need a null MV attribute for each data type you need to blank out, but it works.
I haven't tried it, but it's likely this could also be done on inbound flows, provided you have unused attributes of each type in your data set (with a view you could
just create them). If X, then flow regular attribute from the CS in to the MV; if not X then flow the "null" attribute from the CS into the MV.

i had a rather large collection of existing mp3's, and recently purchased a ipod 30gb 5th gen for my fiance, and in the process of loading music onto it, seemingly half of my collection has gone missing, and itunes has decided to re-arrange my folders at random, which i had previously spent hours arranging.

Sorry I had to reply through your profile Gail from Maine, my PC has java issues. In any event, when I delete them directly from my device everything is perfect and cool. However, in the rare instance I want to add new music that I actually buy in stores (I know, quite the unique and old-fashioned idea...but hey Im an audiophile) once I upload the tunes, everytime I sync my library it re-adds everything that I spent hours deleting. In a perfect world, I thought I could maintain a massive iTunes Library, and add or delete (remove) songs from my iPhone to save both memory or keep my iPhone selections more current/apt to my musical "tastes" at that time. I know about the whole playlist thing, but thought there might be an easier way. ie - checking/un-checking the little box next to the song name, and then doing a sync. Again, everytime I do this however, whether everything is checked or un-checked it adds the entire library! So frustrating. Any suggestions. Thank you graiously in advance for your help.

You can't do it directly on the iPad - the new album functionality basically only allows you to copy photos into those new albums, you can't move them. The way that I think of it as working is that you are just creating pointers to the photos in those new albums, so if you then delete the original photo on the iPad you therefore automatically delete all the pointers to it.
If you want to re-organise your albums then you will need to do it on your computer and then sync those albums over to the iPad

Cannot download videos
This is caused by the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension. To fix it, disable the extension.
The RealPlayer plugin will still work.
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
Select RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin.
Click on Disable.
Click Restart Now to start Firefox with the extension disabled. My add-on manager says the add-on is disabled.

Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

No longer able to use the scan function on Photosmart c4780

Previously when I opened my HP Photosmart C4780 Printer Scanner I would get a dialogue box which allowed me to choose whether to print or scan. This dialogue box no longer starts and I no longer get the option to select scan and can only choose to print. I have been around the circuit of Print and Scan and Doctor and have downloaded and reinstalled the appropriate software several times all to no avail. I can no longer find the software CD that came with the device. What do I have to do to be able to access the dialogue box which gave the opportunity to choose scan and specify the actions required?
Furthermore using Windows Fax and Scan will not work either, I simply get the message “Could not complete scan”.
The scanner does work as I can use the copy function perfectly well.

From your descriptions, it sounds to me like the issue stems from the software. Let's perform a comprehensive uninstall, clean things up and ensure updates are complete, then reinstall. Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome;
Hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted
Download the software and choose to save as, save to desktop > HP Photosmart C4700 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver
After the software downloads and extracts, open the temp folder again, use the instructions from step 1.
Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
Open folder Util
Open folder CCC
If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have anon-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.

How to use the CMS functionality in Sun Portal Server 7.2

How to use the CMS functionality using the ccd.war(Portlet) which is available in the library as i could add it to my channel but not able to show the functionality as it is showing the error msg "You are currently not logged in. Please login." should I create userid and there respective roles inorder to use the CMS functionality.
Has any one used this as I could this in glass fish server.
Any Input is appreciated.

Alternatively,
1. ccd.war has 3 portlets in it:
(a) custom content definition portlet
(b) custom content portlet
(c) workflow portlet
2. Inorder to work with these portlets, user needs to be in anyone of the below roles:
(a)Consumer (b) Editor (c) Approver (d) Administrator (e) Submitter (f) Contributor (g) Publisher
3. By default ccd.war gets deployed using a default roles file (/var/opt/SUNWportal/tmp/ccd.roles.properties)
Note: In windows, you may not find this file
4. Access the portlets as a user in any of the role mentioned in the ccd.roles.properties
(OR)
you can use a new roles file which has mapping to your custom roles. For this , undeploy existing ccd.war and deploy again with a new roles.properties file

How to use the pps function from JCOP?

I'm trying to use the pps function from JCTerminal (JCOP API: [url http://www.cs.ru.nl/~woj/jcopapi/com/ibm/jc/JCTerminal.html#pps(int, int)]pps function ) to connect my client to a virtual card with a specific protocol (T=0).
But I always got the error: "Protocol and parameter selection not supported by this terminal!"
I've tried to make an ATR that support both protocol : [url http://smartcard-atr.appspot.com/parse?ATR=3b909580811fc7dc]3B 90 95 80 81 1F C7 DC.
I really don't know what value to put in the second parameter (baud rate), I've tried with 150000, which is in the range of the ATR but I'm not sure this is correct. And I could't find any example of it.
I'm also not sure where to put the pps command, the specification say directly after a reset, so I tried this implementation:

I'm using a virtual terminal (windows driver), and I don't see how I could turn off the Auto-pps. I've also tried with a real reader and a card and I have the same error.

I go to LinkedIn and type in a name in the search box, for instance "Peter" and hit enter.
Normally, this will return with a list of people with the first name "Peter", listed according to degrees connectivity.
Instead the web site never loads the next page. It appears that it keeps loading the page over and over again, but with no result.
In the end I have to press back or use another browser (Safari) to load the page and use the search function.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server. Any difference? If not...
2. Clear Firefox's Cache Completely
Edit > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
3. If needed, remove your linkedin.com cookies
While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Remove each cookie then try reloading the page. You probably will need to log in again. Does that help?

Can you use the search function in a shared photo stream? When I try to search in the shared photo stream it goes to search in my photos.

I'm not sure there is a solution to your question, other than to not keep so many photos on your devices. If you delete a photo from photo stream, it will delete it from all your devices. To keep them, first save them to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. However, given the number of photos you have, a much more practical solution would be to transfer them to your computer using an app like PhotoSync, which will select them all at once and transfer them over wifi.
I'm not sure why you're seeing such a discrepancy in the amount of space taken up by your photos. It's possible that something is corrupt given the large number of photos on your device.

Since the managed data file format has changed dramatically in Site Studio 10gR4, how do I still use ssIncludeXml to extract a particular element?
For example, a data file in Site Studio 10gR3 looks similar to this:

To extract the "PageBody" element I would use the ssIncludeXml function like this:

Using the search function in PP CC

Using the search function in PP, can the newest software create a new bin with ALL clips the search finds, instead of just one-by-one? I know PP isn’t FCP7, but FCP has a simple function when searching... put in the search parameters, it searches, finds clips, and asks if you want to create a new bin with those clips. Click “yes” and all found clips appear in the new bin. Wonderful! So can the new PP now do this? I can’t seem to find out, so I’m asking the community. Thanks in advance for advice.
