Using The Dock

Hi,
I have a T430s and the older Lenovo dock with USB 2.0. Is it possible to use my computer while it is closed with an external mouse, keyboard and monitor? I would be using a wireless keyboard and mouse and a DVI monitor. How do I do this? Thanks!!!

Hi jppregulman,
You should be able to set up the external monitor in the docking station as normal and then afterwards set your lid to "do nothing" when its closed.
Go to "start", type "power options" and click it when it comes up, click "change plan settings", click change advanced power settings, select "power buttons and lid", select "lid close action", select "do nothing" for both "on battery" and "plugged in" options, then apply and ok.
You should now be able to use your external monitor while the lid is closed.

  • Can't connect 30gb to tv using the dock and a s-video cable need help

i have the universal dock and a 30gb ipod with videos from itunes on it. i use the dock and a s-video cable but nothing comes up. i have the ipod tv settting on but nothing happens

Those videos play fine on your ipod? If yes, check to see if you select the correct input channel on your TV. Also check to see if your S-calbe has a broken pin.

  • Using the dock to charge my iPad

Perhaps I don't understand how to charge my iPad using the dock, but I've found that the iPad will only charge when it is in the dock if it (the iPad) is actually turned off. Is this normal? I'd like to be able to leave the iPad on when it docked, but the battery slowly drains.t And, yes, the dock is plugged in to a power source!

  • Weird Battery Usage Using the Dock's Line-Out

I have noticed something particularly weird about using my iPod w/the dock's line-out. (I have the original 60GB photo).
When I use the dock's line-out to connect to my home stereo via an RCA cable, I get roughly 3 hours of continuous play on a full charge before the battery meter changes decreases.
But when I use the dock's line-out to connect to my PC computer speakers via an RCA cable (at work), I get roughly 2 hours of continuous play on a full charge before the battery meter changes decreases.
Anyone have any ideas what may be causing the shorter battery life while listening via PC speakers?
    Lisa

Hi Carl - thanks for the reply. I consistently get 15 hours of continuous play from my battery. Yep, the battery & meter are properly calibrated (in fact, I'm pretty anal about that!) I'm not sure I'm getting less battery life, per se, I just find it interesting that I get 2 different readings from using the line-out in 2 different configurations. I'm assuming that maybe the PC speakers are using more power? I'm not electrically-inclined, and maybe I'm just going on a wild goose chase!

  • Can I tranasfer photos FROM my iPhone4s to my iMac using the dock connector?

Can I tranasfer photos FROM my iPhone4s to my iMac using the dock connector? Not WiFi or the cloud.
The manual is no help. Neither is FAQ's.
    Thank you.

Yes, if you're talking about the photos in the camera roll.
Plug it in and open iPhoto. It should appear like any other digital camera.

  • Loud Hum from Stereo when using the Dock

I have the iPod dock connected to a rca Aux.input on my stereo using the mini to RCa audio cable that comes with the Airport Express stereo connection kit
It produces a very loud hum thru the stereo speakers even if iPod not in the doc, unplugged the cable from the dock and the hum stops.
Had the same result with a put together cable.
Is this a problem with the dock, had no problem using el'cheapo puter spakers

You should try and see if there is any way that you can push the jack into the Dock any more. This is especially the case if you can see any of the metal part of the jack, this means it is not inserted all the way. The hum is usually a result of not inserting the jack far enough. You can do this with the cheap computer speakers if they were not inserted all the way. Just try pushing it in a little farther or wiggling/twisting it all the way in to see if that does anything.

  • There is a hum when I hook up my IPod touch with the stereo system.  If I do not use the docking station there is no hum.  Is there a solution other than buying a new docking station.  The on I own is 5 years old and is an apple product.

I have an Ipod touch with a genuine Apple docking station.  Lately when I connect my system to my home stereo, there is a hum that I never noticed before.  When I connect the system directly to my stereo, there is no hum.  Is there a solution, other than buying a new docking station?

This makes sense to me. I think the issue is your misunderstanding. If you purchased an item, your Apple ID becomes tied to that permanently. So when you try to update that app, you need the password to the ID that 'OWNS' that application.
Also, I suspect you have a different ID signed into the device, which is why you can't buy with your own. That article listed shows how to change the signed in account.

  • Using the Apple Universal Dock with an old amplifier?

    Hi,
Yesterday, I bought the universal dock to hear the music I have on my iPhone on my home stereo, an old amplifier (NAD C320), connecting them with an 3.5mm <-> 2 RCA cable. I hear a little noise every 10 seconds, but there's no music.
I did the same thing with a more recent compact hi-fi (a Sonoro Cubo, with 3 years, that reads cd's with mp3 files), connecting the iPhone using a 3.5mm <-> 3.5mm, and I get the same noise.
What's my mistake? Thanks in advance.
    Best regards, Miguel Caldeira Proenca

    Hi, Thanks for your help.
I still couldn't find the time to go to the shop and test if there are any problems with the dock, but I already found an interesting answer:
    - if I connect the jack coming from the amp directly to the earphone plug (without using the dock), it all works fine; this means that the problem is either related with the dock or the phone plug that connects to the dock (the one that's used to charge the battery); this narrows the problem to two options, so I only need to go to the shop and test another dock.
Thanks a lot for your help, in the beginning I was wondering if I was doing something, your comment was helpful to understand that the problem wasn't me,
    Best regards, Miguel

  • Anyone used the Blue Tooth iPhone combo dock yet..Questions Charging!

I like to charge my phone from the AC/USB adapter every night with the phone turned off. The combo dock (and the travel cord) has a wierd issue when you want to use it to charge both the headset and the phone. If you turn the phone off in the dock (not sleep) the headset won't charge. If you take the phone out of the dock it will charge. If you put only the headset in the dock it will charge. The only way I can charge both at once with the phone off the way i prefer is to use the dock or travel cable for for the headset and another AC/USB adapter to charge the phone when it's off, defeating the whole purpose of the dock if you want a completely full charge, plus you don't get the days usage because the phone is never off.
With the phone in sleep mode in the dock, not off, I did not get a full charge on the green battery icon , but the plug icon indicated full charge. Charging the phone when it's off on the AC/USB adapter before I got my BT headset, I always got the full green battery and the glow, and based upon today's usage, I shut it off early this morning and turned it back on to get this, thus far (5 hrs 13 mins usage, 7 hours 10 minutes standby BT on,lot's of email, ipod and calls and I have a little over half battery left), battery life (somewhat subjective), didn't appear to be as good as it was charging from the wall when it's off.
Apple tech support said that this was "probably" normal behavior.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

i charge my iPhone with it on all the time. when i charge it overnight i always cycle it in the morning. the "green glow" is a user interface glitch(which has been discussed ALLOT here) as long as the plug shows it is fully charged. if my iPhone doesn't show the the "green glow" i cycle it in the morning and that usually does it for me. my iPhone went for almost 48 hours on a charge before asking me to please charge it; this is with moderate to medium calling, internet and ipod. another thing is that when you use your iphone with you headset and the bluetooth is on it is using extra battery because they only have an on and off function and they don't have where you can set it to be discoverable so it is constantly searching and searching for bluetooth devices. which will i have not noticed to be a real drain on the battery but for someone that is say subjected to allot of bluetooth devices in an office building perhaps that might play a role in sucking down more power. for me i notice that it is like 5-10 min of talk time less that with bluetooth on. but as i charge overnight i didn't notice it being much if any lower at night with average use. i don't have the bluetooth combo dock but he battery should fully charge in 4 hours and the average person sleeps more than 8 i would imagine that you are trying to charge 2 things off the same charger but the headset is 1 hour to charge if i remember so what at the most of like 6 hours for both to full charge? i don't know if this helps just some useful information. we have 3 iPhone's in the house and they all have around the same battery life BTW.

  • How do I make an app running in the background appear in the dock?

I've tried searching the rest of the web, but all I can find is how to pin an app to the dock. I already know how to do that.
What I want to do is make an app that doesn't appear even when it's running (my specific case is SugarSync) appear as an icon in the dock. I know I can get to it by either clicking or right-clicking on the mini icon on the right side of the menu bar, but I want to be able to switch to it using the dock or open-apple+tab, like I can with everything else.

It depends on the data path from the tower you're using, through NATs and many routers, all the way back to the server. Which depends on your current location and sheer luck.
For some users, the data path stays alive for 30-45 minutes at a time... thus the phone only has to ping the server that often for push to work. Their push doesn't use much battery.
Other users have the misfortune of being connected via pathways that only keep a connection alive for 5-10 minutes. Their iPhones eat battery like crazy, and they usually end up switching to a 15-30 minute timed fetch instead.

  • What case works with the dock

Hey, I'm looknig for a case that will work with the dock. Are there any out there? I really like using the dock to sync my phone and I'm not happy loosing that feature in order to use a case.
I'm already aware that the iSee case will not work with the dock http://www.contourcase.com/isee/iseeiphone/ . What about the other cases out there?

This looks like it might do the trick:

  • How to move the dock up a little on OS X Mountain Lion?

I just downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and noticed the dock is at the very bottom of my screen. So when the little ball of light appears under an application I am using, I can barely see it. Is there any way to move it up a little bit?

No ball of light now just a small lit up shelf edge under the app when the dock is on the bottom of the screen
If too difficult to see try using the dock on the right or left side of the screen.. the ball is still there.
    Best.
