Using the Glossary interaction in Captivate 6

I am trying to create a glossary that is available on all slides by adding it once and using the "rest of project" setting for the object timing. HOWEVER, for this object, the "Place object on top" is disabled. The result is on all slides (except the slide it is on), the glossary appears behind the current slide's objects. The "Place object on top" is needed so the glossary rises to the surface. How can I get action to occur? FYI, the glossary is not visible until a glossary button is clicked. Then I use Advanced Actions programming to make the glossary visible.

That is a known bug, already reported it. Hope it will be fixed soon.

Unable to see/use the play bar in Captivate

Hello,
I'm happy to join you on this forum, as I have tried to find
(and did :)) answers for some of the problems I have experienced
when learning how to use the Adobe tools.
The latest issue I've encountered was when trying to view a
Captivate presentation.
It was already published on the Connect server and it could
be perfectly viewed on my computer.
However, an user I have sent the URL to tells me that he
could see and use no play bar (!!!)
Therefore, the actions like pause, go back and forth etc.
were no longer available for him.
What do you think?
Is there something missing from the PC system that could not
allow the good "reading" of my Captivate movie or....?

Hi Oana
This would seem to indicate that possibly the link provided
to your other person was perhaps pointing to the main movie .SWF
file and not the HTML file. Can you check to ensure where the link
was pointing?
With Captivate 2, at the basic level of output, you should
see four files:
* One is a .SWF containing your main movie. Perhaps named
MainMovie.SWF
* One is a .SWF containing the playback controls for the
skin. Perhaps named MainMovie_skin.SWF
* One is a JavaScript file named standard.js
* One is an HTML file that you should point your user to.
Perhaps named MainMovie.HTM
Those typical four files (and sometimes more) should all
exist on the server where everyone links to watch the movie. The
fact the main part of the movie is being viewed by your user
indicates that everything they need is installed and working
properly on their PC. It seems to indicate there are possible files
missing from the server. Not from the aspect of server
functionality, but from the aspect of what you need to make sure
ends up there so the Captivate movie can play and find all the
components.

Trouble using the Reviewer feature on Captivate 4

I'm using the trial of Captivate 4 (contemplating the upgrade from CS3) and the only problem I have encounterd is with the Reviewer feature. I published a review to email, sent it to half dozen co-workers, checked the boxes to attach the AIR & CREV files. When I opened the email myself, the Reviewer loaded & the CREV played fine, however all of my co-workers got an error message (error #3003) telling them that installation failed and they should try again. I checked, and these folks have AIR installed on their PC's and the Captivate Reviewer shows up afterwards on their desktop. But they can't open the CREV file. Any body know why that's happening?

Using the mic jack in Captivate?

Any suggestions on how I turn on the mic jack in Captivate 2?
I’m using the 30 day free trial” any chance the mic
record option has been turned off in this version?
The mic and the jack work fine in other programs.

Hi Joe, and welcome to the Captivate User community!
Nothing is disabled in the trial versions. The inability of
Captivate to recognize some mics has been a problem forever, and
all I can suggest is that you run a search (here) to see how others
handled the problem. Wish I could tell you just to "turn it on" but
it's just not that simple.
You will have to use trial and error with various microphones
or follow the suggestions of others herein, to solve the problem.
Try searching for the string "Audio AND mic". Search at least the
"General", the "Editing", and the "Recording" forums for that
string (hold down CTRL while selecting (clicking) multiple fourms).
That will yield several pages of "hits" on your problem.

Has anyone used the IC Interactive scripting editor for the Webclient ?

We originally received the 'Loading %0' message when loading the editor via the IC_MANAGER business role. This was overcome by updating Java (See note 717921).
However, the editor now seesm to working, I can see two examples as standard, but when I click on them I do not see anything. I've ifnored this issue and have started to create my own question and answers in preparation for a script.
However, I have hit a few quirky things while using editor. Am I alone in this, or is this just the way it is.
I'm using the latest version of CRM 7.
If anyone's used this script editor I would dearly like to hear from you, especially in avoiding any upcoming nasties that I may hit.
A perfect example of this kind of problem is in how you create 'Answers'. If I highlight the answer section and click on the 'Create' button I have the options to create the following: Field, Objective script, Question, Action, Button and script, of which none of these are what I want. I can however create a question with an answer section, but of course when it comes to dragging a answer in to the answer box I can't do this as I can't create any answers. Am I missing something?.

Using Flash Learning Interactions in Captivate

Hi there,
I am developing a short practice quiz in Captivate, but for
one of the questions I want to use a Flash CS3 learning interaction
(the "Hot Spots" one). I get the Flash file built, import it into
Cpativate, and everything works.
Now for the big question - how do I get Captivate to track
the successful/unsuccessful action from this question in a quiz? I
want to present users with a results page at the end of the
practice quiz, but since this question is not built with a
Captivate question slide (like m/c, t/f, etc.), how can I track the
result and include it on the results slide at the end?

Hi J and welcome to our community
There is no way (back door or otherwise) that I'm aware of to
do this. Unless, of course, you mean to use Flash 8 and export the
Flash in a version 6 format.
Hopefully we will see Flash 8 files working just dandy in
Captivate version 2.

Maximum tabs in tab interaction in Captivate 7

I am using the tab interaction in Captivate 7. I wanted to add seven tabs. But the interaction is allowing only five tabs. Can we increase this?

When I try to open my accordion interaction in iPad ios 6, I face the following issues. I created the accordion interaction using Captivate 7 version.
1. Audio is not playing
2. When opening one accordion, the already opened one doesn't close automatically. As a result, the accordion open one below the other and the third, fourth, and fifth accordion is not visible.
Is there a work around for the second issue. Please let me know

Glossary interaction xml import not working

If I use the glossary interaction xml import, the resulting window is mis-sized (scrunched up to the top) even if I use Adobe's sample xml file (glossary.xml). Has anyone been able to get this to work correctly? Even if I add manually, it still cuts off the bottom of the interaction.

I'm having the exact same problem, also using v8. Did you find a way around it?

Undefined is not an object error when using the Output Generator with Glossary Restyling script to create WebHelp

When I use the Glossary Hotspot Wizard to create links within my topics to the terms, I then generate the project using the script (because I want to use popups instead of having the text display in-line). I did not edit this script before running it - do I need to? If so, where does the script reside? Any suggestions would be appreciated so that I can get this working as intended :-).

The error occurs during the WebHelp generation. If I generate the project
without using this script, there is no error.

Settings for Glossary interaction - can I link to correct word?

Hi there
I am trying to add the Glossary Interaction to my project and i've filled in the Term and Definition but I was wondering, can I have a link from the Search term straight to the definition in the Glossary?
For example, the word eLearning is used in my project. Can the user click on the word 'eLearning' and be taken to the Glossary page and straight to the definition for 'eLearning' or can I just go to the Glossary page?
Oh and I'm using Captivate 6.

Hi Julie
You can take the user to the Glossary page, but not to the exact word.
To do that, select the word, go to Format accordion, click the hyperlink icon, select Slide from the drop down list, and select the slide on which you have the Glossary.
Now, after this, you should also provide a button on the Glossary page so that the learners go back to the slide from which came from. For that, add a button on the Glossary page and assign the action Go to the Last Visited Slide.

Images in Glossary Interaction?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is there any way to add images to the term definitions in the Glossary interaction?

In Captivate 6 the Glossary has an "add image" feature. I am having difficulty with this:
I am rebuilding a text into a visual, interactive presentation with several "chapters" (for the Deaf). Using the add image feature is paramount in this endeavour. The first chapter glossary worked well, with no issues surrounding the images inserted. Now with the second chapter, I find the images are not all displayed, and show up almost randomly throughout the glossary. All pix are listed in the library, but most indicate they are being used 0 times. What can I do to rectify this problem? Am I overloading the library somehow? I've spend days loading and reloading the glossary with text and images and am at my wit's end. Help!

Calling a function in the HTML window the course sits inside - Captivate 8

Hi,
I've scoured the forums for an answer to this but as yet have come up blank.
Our LMS launches a course in a popup window and inside of this the .htm Captivate output file sits.
Currently this pop up window has a button in it which executes a function. The problem is this button is rather unsightly sitting above the course in the HTML window and I'd like to be able to call this function from inside the Captivate course itself.
The function is called closeSCOContent() and it closes the course window but crucially forwards the user to a feedback page.
So essentially is it possible to call this function using the Javascript function in Captivate 8?

No, it has to be between two and five buttons. Each interaction has its limits like that. I have a table that explains all the interactions, maybe I'll once publish it on my blog.

Anyone had the trial version of Captivate 4 expire in 4 days?

I'm using the trial version of Captivate 4 which I downloaded
four days ago. It's now telling me I have to enter a serial number
with no option to continue the trial.
I've seen problems have occurred in the past but haven't
heard about this one.
Anyone direct me to a fix? I'm putting together a project to
convince the powers that be to upgrade.

Welcome to our community
At any point after installing did you play with your system
clock and monkey with the date? I find that trials are often super
sensitive that way. ANY change to the date can automatically
trigger a "Trial is over" response as the software is programmed
not to allow date changes. If it were to allow date changes, you
could theoretically run a trial indefinitely.
Other than that, perhaps try calling support. And good luck.

RH8 deletes the glossary file (.GLO)

Simple issue: I converted an RH7 WebHelp project to RH8. The glossary file became a zero-byte door stop.
I close RH8, copy over a backup GLO file, open the project in RH8, make changes to the Glossary and can edit at will, close and open the project and the Glossary is still there...but, when I complile/publish the project, RH8 wipes out the GLO file.
This also occurs if I use the Glossary Hotspot Wizard: I end up with a zero-byte file.
(An ancillary issue is that the Glossary "Toolbar Button" does not show as an option in the WebHelp layout Properties page, and it is properly defined in the skin I am using).
Any hints/help would be thoroughly appreciated...
Here's something else I just discovered: any action that results in saving the GLO file zero-bytes the thing.

Bear with me on this: I refined the issue to anything that causes RH8 to explicitly save the .GLO file.
If a populated Glossary is available in the RH8 interface and no changes are made to the Glossary in RH8, then everything compiles and works fine. Any change to the Glossary in the RH8 interface, however, results in a zero-byte file when RH8 saves the change. I discovered I could use an external editor (e.g., UltraEdit) to make and save changes without getting RH8 all fluttered.
Issue resolved, but there's an underlying problem -- likely a bug.
