Using the Help Function of MacBook Pro

How do I access the Help menue on a MacBook Pro? When the Help icon (top menu bar) is clicked a while box appears with an areas to type a search topic but no way is shown to activate the search.

Can you verify you're really running Mac OS X 10.4.7 by selecting "About This Mac" from the Apple menu? If you're not running Mac OS X 10.4.7 or earlier then no one here can help you.
Or are you possibly mistaking the Help menu with the blue Spotlight menu in the upper right corner of your screen?

Yes.  You can use one of a higher wattage, just not a lower wattage.

    Klapschaats,
Unfortunately, the installation media that comes with your Mac will only work with that particular machine. These installation discs are not the same as a retail copy of Leopard. The retail installation disc can be installed on any supported machine. The installation media that came with your Macbook Pro for example has data on it meant only for that machine. Think of it also as something like an "OEM" disc for Windows when you purchase a machine from Dell. That particular installation disc is licensed only for that machine and contains files specifically for that machine.

  • Installing Windows 7 Without Using The Boot Camp Installer (MacBook Pro)

I don't know if anyone knows this or not, but I was able to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro just using the Windows 7 install disk.
I restarted with the windows CD in, and when the screen said press any key to boot from CD, I pressed the space bar. When it got to the part to select the installation drive, I went into advanced and removed all the partitions and formatted the whole thing. There was a small system partition the cannot be deleted (probably reserved for the system). I was able to install Windows 7 and use the whole drive for it.
After running Windows 7, I was still able to install the Boot Camp Control Panel to set the keyboard, track pad, sound, and all the other funtions. If I tell it to reboot to the Apple OS, it just reboots to Window 7 with no problems.
Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool and might be helpful for people who want to run only Widows 7 on their MacBook Pro.
CAUTION... DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

People have been using Mac as Windows-only.
On Mac Pro, with 4 internal drives, it is normal to not use anything other than the Windows DVD and install onto a dedicated drive, same as you did, only change it from GPT to MBR first.
    There is no risk.
(Well, some feel that someone might 'need' OS X to do something like a firmware update I guess.)

  • How do I use the App store with macbook pro and mac pro

I currently use the app store with the mac book, but want to buy (share?) apps and music with the mac pro.
I can't find anything that specifically outlines how this works.
I use SplashID with the macbook and an iPhone, and want to use it (and sync it) on the mac pro as well.
If you buy apps for a macbook, can you use them on a second machine, or do you need to buy it a second time?

Your license from the MAS allows you to download and install the apps on as many Macs as you own or have under your control (institutional or employer supplied Macs.) The Mac should to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion. Open the MAS app on the Mac Pro and sign into your account to have access to download all of your previous purchases in the Purchased pane.
Simple apps can also be dragged & dropped over a network connection from the MacBook to the Mac Pro.

Yes it is possible, as long as the wattage is the same.

  • HT1338 I am taking online classes. Can I use the camera on my macbook pro on blackboard collaborate?

I am taking online classes. We use Blackboard. We are going to use Blackboard Collaborate this week. Can I use the camera
on my computer to view myself and the others in my class?  The camera is connected to FaceTime, so I was not sure how that
    worked.

Blackboard Collaborate claims it is compatible with Safari 5.1 or later and Mountain Lion, or latest Firefox. When I went to their support page, it borked and said my operating system was not compatible. It also then checked and reported that I had Java Webstart 1.6 installed.
Looks like a real pain of proprietary stuff. Probably wants to use Java to take over the camera.

  • I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I upgraded to lion. I tried to buy an audio book and download it to my nano like I have done at least 50 times before. Now the dialog box states that I need an ipod touch for the same function. MacBook Pro 2008 w/ m.trac

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?

I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?
I truly appreciate any help I can get!
    Thanks again...

  • Can you use the "Restore" function in Disk Utility to clone MacBook Pro HDD and make a bootable copy?

I'm cloning my MacBook Pro's HDD to a SSD and didn't really want to install another app (SuperDuper, CCC), can I just use the Restore function in Disk Utility app to clone it and make a bootable copy on my SSD?
    Thank you for the help!

    Yes.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • How do I find out what year my MacBook Pro is?  I want to know if I can use the mirroring function with my Apple TV if I download Mountain Lion.

I'm trying to find out if I can use the mirror function to look at large construction drawings using my Apple TV.  It says that my MacBook Pro has to be early 2011 or newer and I can't remember what it is.

  • Hello, I need help with my macbook pro. It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, use the migration assistant or click the lock to make changes, it simply does not react.

Hello, I need help with my macbook pro.
It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, I simply get stuck during the installation type process. I put in my password, it does accept it, but it does not go any further.
I tried to reset the password, put no password, repair the permissions, the disk but nothing will do. I nearly got stuck with the log in screen but finally succeeded in disabling it.
So I thought I might try to create a new account but I cannot click the lock to make changes. It simply refuses to react.
I am now thinking about using the migration assistant to save all my settings, data and so fourth, but again I get stuck when I have to type in my password. It accepts it but nothing happens...
I guess it has something to do with the authorization process, but can't find anything on the internet about it... Can you help me out?
    I am running Lion 10.7.3.
    Regards,
    Nicolas.
(I apologize if any grammatical/structural mistakes were to be found, english is not my mother-tongue. )

You probably won't like this suggestion, but I suggest you reinstall Lion.
First, backup your system. Next, reboot your system, press/hold the COMMAND-R keys to boot into the Recovery HD. Select 'Reinstall Mac OS X'. If you purchased Lion as an upgrade to Snow Leopard, the reinstall process will install Lion 10.7.3. If your system came preinstalled with Lion, you might still get Lion 10.7.2. Both installs are a total install of the OS. None of your apps or data will be impacted. Just the OS.

  • I can not use CanoScan N670U with my Macbook pro. I download canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon website. It keep saying "the scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

I can not use CanaScan N670U with my Macbook Pro. I download Canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon websit. It still keep saying "The scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

There is a solution (I'm running Snow Leopard on a Core2Duo iMac, but this problem arose when I was running Leopard on a G4 PowerBook too).
    Problem:
You download the OS X driver for the scanner from Canon's site. I already had the CanoScan Toolbox (4.1) stored on an external drive.
You unzip the driver and run the VISE installer. After a search it finds your copy of Photoshop (and maybe even the CanoScan Toolbox), and you click to install on that/those location(s).
You get a couple of error messages, which you click through.
You restart your computer and try to run the scanner but you get an error that the driver is wrong or missing and the process will abort.
    Solution:
BEFORE you restart, and with the installer package still open -
    1. Copy the Into_CFMSupport_Login & Into_CMPrefs folders to
    Applications : Canon Utilities
    Applications : Canoscan Toolbox
and remove the prefix Into_ from each folder
    2. Check whether the installer placed N067U_Library.shlb into the top level (not User level)
    Library : CFMSupport
and if it didn't, move it there yourself
THEN restart, and try again. It worked for me (via Photoshop), but whether it will work for everyone, I don't know.

The problem is that Time Machine seem to be ejected, I checked this both in Finder and Disk Utility.

    Try the following:
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try another backup
