Using the "history" sidebar

It seems that there are problems with the "history" sidebar (invoked by Ctrl-H).
I use the sidebar to manage the history. The default view is "By Date and Site", such that the sites appear as nodes. Usually I navigate up and down with the arrow keys, and delete entries (or consecutive entries selected by holding the shift key) by pressing the "Del" key. These functionalities were working well in Firefox 2.x, but not the current release.
* Deleting "page" entries works as before.
* After deleting a "site" node, the cursor always jump to the topmost ("Today") node, regardless what the container "date" node is.
* In deleting consecutive "site" nodes, only the first one is deleted, and the cursor jumps to the list top afterwards.
I'd like to ask if it is possible to restore its original behaviour ?

  • A question about using the history tool after using the extraction tool in photoshop cs3..

    For example:
    http://www.layersmagazine.com/photoshop-...
When I use the history tool, it erases the image instead. Whats up with that?

    G'day Chris
I can't tell from the link exactly which tutorial you mean!
If the original layer is a white background and the snapshot is set to this then the history tool will paint back white even if you then paste or drag an image onto the layer above this.
You would have to take a seperate snapshot of your image layer and set this layer as the snapshot you want the history tool to use before you start working on it.
One neat thing you can do is if you paint back some detail with the history brush you can immediately go to Edit > Fade and fine tune how much of the effect you want to apply.
    Hope this helps.

  • The history sidebar does not automatically come up when I start Firefox.

I always had the history sidebar set to appear when Firefox booted. Now I have to manually open it each time. Why?

Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf<br />
(caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)<br />
    <br />
    Note:<br />
Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.<br />
You can rename "localstore.rdf" to "localstore.rdf.sav" to test if that solves it.<br />
Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.<br />

  • Annoying 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state' message

Does anyone know if it is possible to get rid of the message 'Could not use the history eraser because the current canvas size does not match that of the history state'?. It comes up if I hit the alt/option key while I have the eraser selected. Something I do by accident all the time.

The way you've described it, one gets the distinct impression you do not have a clue as to what the history brush does and how to use it.
You need to read up on it.  Read the Help files and google for tutorials.
First you need to create an image (with actual pixels in it), edit it as desired, then make a snapshot of the edited image, then target the snapshot with the history brush tool, then go back in the History panel to the step before your edits and selectively paint your edits in with the History Brush.

    zedzed,
    Here's another thought.
Navigate to HD > Users > Library > Safari: Make a duplicate of History.plist.
To duplicate the file, click once to highlight it. Press the Command + D keys.
Drag the History, plist copy file to the Desktop.
Highlight it. Press the Command + I keys, to get info.
    Change Open With to TextEdit.
When you open the file in TextEdit, it will be difficult to read, but you will be able to pick out some sites.

I cannot get the Ebay sidebar to work on my desktop computer with Firefox 5.0; yet it works perfectly on my laptop also with Firefox 5.0. Any suggestions

Can't help with the error, but you don't need discs to install CS5, you can just download the trial and use your serial number to activate.

  • Simple Timer using the History Component

I spent ages trying to do this, but there's a simple and elegant solution, so I thought I'd better share it.
    1. in cell A1 put the formula "=sum(A2+1)"
    2. add a new history component, with data cell A1, insertion cell A2, and timer interval to 1 second
    3. add a label to the dashboard pointing at cell A1, and you have a timer!

The red and white audio slots for "DVI"
The red and white slots for "AV In" (Typical yellow white red slots.)
The red and white slots in the SCART adaptor for "RGB"

  • What is the use of History Brush Tool?

What is the use of History Brush Tool?

"The History Brush takes the power of the History panel and lets you focus it on
specific parts of an image. So instead of sending the entire image back in time, you
can use this brush to paint edits away selectively, revealing the previous state of
your choosing. For example, you could darken a portrait with the Burn tool
and then use the History Brush to undo some of the darkening if you went too
    far."
Which is precisely what I said, in only 9 words

  • How do I open multiple locations from the History after selecting them with Ctrl+click?

Let's say I want to read some of the Mother Jones and Alternet articles I'd linked to from e-mails over the past in two months. I open my Firefox history. I do a search of the history libary to get a list of all the relevant locations. Then I use Control+click to select the few articles I want to read. I'd think Ctrl+O would open all those selected, but it doesn't. There must be a more efficient way than what I'm doing now, which is to open a new tab in the browser window, go to history, double click one line, wait for the page to load; open a new tab, go back to the history search results, click on a new location, wait as it loads, repeat.

Where are you viewing your History? <br />
    Have you tried the History Sidebar? {Ctrl + H} <br />
You can {Ctrl + Click} the pages you want to open in new Tabs, one at a time. <br />
Also, if you have your Options > Tabs pref deselected for '''When I open a new tab, switch to it immediately''', it might be less distracting with all those pages opening in the background.

  • Unable to delete "(no title)" Folder Entry in history sidebar

Hello. Recently I got a strange issue in my history sidebar on Firefox Ver. 35 beta.
Today I noticed I have a "(no title)" folder on the history sidebar when I set the sort view to date and site. I tried to delete it by clicking on delete and on forget about this site but it doesn't gets removed.
I noticed I had this entry in 4 different dates which are in today's history, in last 7 days history, in this month history and on November's history. The rest of the days/months doesn't have such entry.
I know it has to do with the places.sqlite file since I removed it (previous backup of my profile folder). Obviously the history all of it disappeared (my bookmarks and bookmarks toolbar weren't affected) and the empty history only showed the homepage I have set for Firefox to open when I run the browser.
I really don't know what triggers this behavior. Other than that everything is working normally. No crashes, no slowdowns, no nothing. Just the "(no title)" issue.
As you can see on the screenshot, that entry only has the copy, delete and forget about this site options available, the rest are grayed out, as in not available.
I thought in ask because I was unable to remove that entry. And I don't want to lose my whole history because I have a lot of sites I visit there.
Maybe adding a way for this kind of entries to be removed would be a nice solution.
    Thank you in advance :)

If you click on the no title history entry, does it take you to a webpage? And if so, if you looke at the head of the html is there an entry
    <title>HTML Reference</title>
In the past when an entry like this could not be deleted it was mentioned it may have to do with sync, do you use sync, and if you do a "sync now" does this entry go away?
Also this was seen with migration of bookmarks, but was resolved. If you have the url of the no title page this may narrow down a reason, but not a work around.

*CTRL+H opens or closes the History Sidebar (it says "History" at the top)
*CTRL+B opens or closes the Bookmarks Sidebar (it says "Bookmarks" at the top)
*For either Sidebar, clicking the small "x" to the right of "Histtory"/"Bookmarks" will close the Sidebar
*If the Sidebar is open when you close/exit Firefox, it will be there when you open/re-start Firefox.

  • History Sidebar started showing up today. I cannot eliminate it

Today, whenever I bring up Firefox as my home page, the history sidebar shows up. I can uncheck it, but the next time I load the home page it shows up. My privacy setting is to never retain the history. How can I keep from having to use the "x" or uncheck it to close it? As I said, this just started this afternoon.

If you are running Firefox in automatic private browsing mode, it's possible that Firefox is not remembering the change of closing the sidebar.
Since opening the sidebar is not the default behavior, perhaps you could eliminate the problem by removing a settings file which stores window positions and other user interface data. If you want to try that, here's how you do it:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''xulstore.json''' to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.
Start Firefox back up again. Does the sidebar stay closed?

  • How do i access the history pane

upgraded today and cannot find how to access the history pane either directly or through a button on the navigation bar.
need to know how to access it and how to add a button for it please.
    thank you

You can display and hide the history sidebar using Ctrl+h
To add a button to the toolbar, right-click next to the "+" (new tab) button or in a blank space after the address box, and choose Customize. Drag the button from the button palette to the desired location, then click Done.
    Any luck?

  • The Safari Sidebar

How do you use the Safari Sidebar? When I go to View and Show Sidebar, it opens to the left but is empty. Clicking the plus symbol opens the Sidebar folder. I guess I just want to know what I need to place in the folder to make the Sidebar useful.
Is there a way I can view bookmarks and history from it or maybe webpage thumbnails?
If not, then what is its purpose?

The "Sidebar" you see may be one of the features offered by the 3rd party Safari add-on SAFT. Added to the Sidebar are RSS feeds; installation being explained in the "read me" file accompanying the Installer. SAFT is installed in either your main or user library>InputManagers folder.
This sidebar is not designed to hold history or bookmarks.
3rd party Safari add-on SafariStand offers a sidebar, specific for tabs - showing a small (size can be adjusted) image of each tab opened in the Tab bar.
