Using the ibook overseas

Hi,
I'm about to puchase the 12" ibook and am going to be living in France for a few months, and also visiting England. Is there anything I should be aware of regarding adapters, wifi....anyone know of anything I should bring along with the regular hardware?
Also, I will probably be buying the refurbished model to save a couple hundred.
Thanks in advance.

Douglas,
What about the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit?
Hi Brooke,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
I suggest getting a protective case for your iBook, external hard drive, the (Airport Express), and the iSight. I never leave home without them. If you would like to know why specifically I suggest these or would like some suggestions on what to get; please us know.

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.

  • Using the iBook with the cover closed

Can you hook up external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc and use the iBook with the cover closed? I know that usually closing the cover puts it to sleep.

The keyboard is an important component of the cooling of the CPU. Excess heat dissipates through the keyboard. Closing the cover would cause damage to other components from the heat. You can run iTunes with the screen off if that helps. Do that in systems prefs>energy saver and set the screen to go off in three minutes (or one) and the CPU to stay on indefinetly.

  • Being author of an Apple-approved iBook am I allowed to promote my book via email or website, without using the iBooks Badge?

Being author of an Apple-approved iBook, am I allowed to promote my book via email and wbsite without using the iBooks Badge?

Yes  you can use email and if you a website/FB etc,.  you can  use the iBooks badge.
Use this link to Apples link  maker     https://linkmaker.itunes.apple.com/us/?urlDesc=
Then find your book(s) and create one of three link option for use on websites.
For  emails I would suggest use the  "text only" option  but  test the  other logo options also.

  • HT4528 I receive a 4s after been use for 2 years in the verizon network and the customer upgrade to a 5.I will like to use the phone overseas but I do not use Verizon.

I receive a 4s after been use for 2 years in the verizon network and the customer upgrade to a 5. I will like to use the phone overseas but I do not use Verizon, how I can get this phone legally unlocked without having to add service because I'm with Sprint under a contract?
I can get the prior  owner of the phone info if you nedd to contac her to verify, just let me know thank you.
If the phone was used in the Verizon network for 2 years, is that not enough time to get the phone unlocked?

I have sprint phone and service without simcard, Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. But if I can get the Verizon iPhone 4S unlocked, I can use it let's said in the caribean, canada, europe etc.,  with a local simcard from the service provider and country that I visit . No to be use here in USA with Sprint or Verizon, only to be use with GSM-Simcard when I travel out of USA.

Check your trash can on the desktop. The old version is automatically moved to the trashcan. You should be able to move it from the trashcan back to the Apps folder within the iTunes folder. The update that was pushed out was for iBooks to work with iOS 7 not iPhone 5. iOS 7 was released today.

  • How can I share an ibook that is 250 megs with others without using the ibook store

    Hello
I'm using ibook author and the book I have created is 250 megs. I'm having trouble sharing it and getting on my new ibook air. Does anyone know if there is a good way to share the file with others without publishing it or using iTunes?
I'd ideally like to use something like Dropbox or my website but every time I try to download the file using one of these sites safari/apple says file not readable.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you both for the help and sorry about not replying earlier. I've tried both drop box as well making the ibook downloadable from a website. I've triend to create a step by step list below that better illustrates what is happening.
    1) export ibook author file as an xxxxxx.ibooks
    2) upload xxxxx.ibooks to dropbox and then send my self a test link
    3) using safari i download the xxxxx.ibooks file
    4) while still in safari a page opens up with an icon for the xxxx.ibooks file and it has two buttons underneath it- one that says "open with..." and another that says "open in ibooks"
THIS IS WHERE THE IBOOK PROBLEM STARTS
    5) I tap on the "open in ibooks" button - nothing happens
    6) I tap on the "open with..." button and an icon for the ibook app pops up
    7) I tap on the ibook app icon and nothing happens
    8) I tap and hold the "open in ibooks" button for 2 plus minutes (the time for holding the button down fluctuates from 45 seconds to 5 minutes)
    9) the xxxxxx.Ibooks file opens in the ibook app.
I am very happy that I was able to get the xxxxx.ibooks file to open on my ipad. However, this is not a smooth or intuitive process. I need to share the xxxxxx.ibooks file with many people and I want to find a process for getting them the book that is very easy.
    any advice is appreciated
Do you think the problem could be the size of the file?
    Thank you

I have hooked up and ibook to my powerbook via firewire and I am doing that to transfer a large file from the ibook to the powerbook. I understand that there is a keyboard command that i need to use when I start up the ibook to make it a slave to the powerbook. Can anyone help?

  • Using the iBook in France

Other than a power adapter, are there any special considerations?
How about internet screening for kids? (We currently use Bumpercar heere in the states.)
    Thanks!!!

The AC adapter that comes with the iBook is world-ready. All you need is a plug adapter.
I've never used a program like Bumpercar, but is there a reason it wouldn't work in France? The Internet is the Internet, it's not different in Europe. I suppose, if it's looking for key words, it may not know the French words to avoid...

  • HT4059 We are unable to download a book for purchase from the iBook store because it says you are not authorized to use the iBooks United States site and must use the Canadian site. How do we do this?

We have always been able to purchase books from iBooks no problem but all of a sudden it says you cannot purchase this book as you aren't authorized to use the US store and must connect to the Canadian store. We cannot figure out how to do this. Help!

Sign out and back into the device so you switch back to the Can account.

  • Shouldn't you be able to use the IBook while its plugged in charging?

I went to use my Ibook, which needed charging, It boots up but then just stays blue with the arrow there, is this normal? Does it have to be charged even though its plugged into the wall?

    A couple questions:
Have you fully charged your iBook before?
Did you calibrate your battery when you first got your iBook?
Do you get to the username/password screen?

I am unable to access my iBooks library from my iPad through the iBooks App. Recent changes to the app says I require IOS 5.0 which I don't have because I have the original IOS that came with my iPad (the original released version) I have an extensive library that I cannot access. Why do you think you cannot upgrade to iOS 5?  That should work fine.  iOS 6 is not possible for iPad 1.

  • How does a publisher provide updates for  books to use the ibooks 3 update feature?

Are updates provided only by publishing through the iBookstore, or will iBooks 3 pick  up changes from books purchased elsewhere?

Have you tried updating them through iTunes on your computer, or, updating the books in iBooks on your computer (if using Mavericks).

  • Using the mini overseas

Hi - my family is military and we are moving to Singapore for a few years. We bought our mac mini in the US and love it. I know that the voltages are different there (although from what I have found here, the mini should automatically adjust for the voltage without using a stepup adapter) but I want to know if there is anything else I need to know to make sure that it works right. For instance the TVs here have one signal and over there they have PAL signal, so even with the right voltage, our TV won't read their signal. Is there an equivalent with the computer? Any info will help, thanks.

There is nothing that you need to consider relating to the mini itself. The power brick for it works with 110-220 volts, 50-60Hz, so it's universal. You will need an adapter to allow the US-type 3-pin AC plug to fit whatever local power outlet there is, but for the mini, that's it. In reality, you will likely have to find a new display to use with the system, though any DVI or VGA compatible units that are locally sourced in Singapore will work, and with the right adapter, so would local TV sets - the only caveat being the same as applies in the US, that some displays are more compatible than others!
Also, bear in mind that the warranty on Mac mini's is global, so if you are still under the warranty, it will continue to be valid in Singapore.
