Using the iPad & iPhone 4?

Hi there,
I am currently using an iPhone 4 which has pretty much met up to my every expectations except for its small screen size considering that it is mobility advantages. I would like to ask some questions in regards to the iPad so as to decide to get either the wifi only version or the 3G + wifi version.
Q1: If I am to get the wifi only version, will I be able to use my iPhone 4's internet tethering to provide 3G connectivity on the iPad?
Q2: This question is for all who uses BOTH the iPad and iPhone (either 3GS or 4)... Do you use both the iPad and iPhone whenever you travel about? Other than a bigger screen and UI, the iPad pretty much functions like the iPhone. Why do you have both? Is it because you would use the iPad namely for reading, internet browsing, video & gaming (maybe because it is bigger)?
Yup, thank you for taking the time to respond to these questions. I will be considering getting the iPad, just that I may wait for the next generation one as I think it may feature 'Face time'?

Oh gosh, what a bummer...I was searching through the forums and I guess the 1st question has been asked and answered repeatedly. You are not able to tether the iPhone to the iPad, which means I will need to get an additional data plan just for it. Kinda dumb on a consumer level but I guess those are some of the restrictions the telcos have placed. (am I right? lol)

What OS did the Mac come pre-installed with, or have you upgraded it to Lion or Mountain Lion? You should be able to re-install using Internet Recovery, if you were on either of those OS's.
Restart holding down Command + Alt (Option) + r
You'll probably prompted for your Apple ID and you'll need to have the Mac connected to the internet - ideally via ethernet cable, although wifi should be OK if you have a reliable connection.

If you're on an earlier OS you'll need to use the grey restore disk that came with the Mac. Post back if you need more info.

Will it mess up the iPhone 4 use the iPad charger

I have just added to my apple products by getting and iPad. But I also have an iPhone 4 and just found out its better for my iPad to use my iPad charger but I wanted to know if it would mess up my iPhone to use my iPad charger.

Perfectly fine to use the iPad charger with the iPhone.

IPad 3.2.1 update will no longer let me use the apple iphone VGA adaptor?

Has anyone else have this problem. I was using the apple iphone VGA adaptor I purchased from apple for $49 on my iPad, but since the update I can no longer use it? I dont know if anyone else is having this problem, I don't know if Apple purposely put an update to force you to purchase the "iPad VGA Connector", but if they did thats just plain messed up.

Can you try the modem plugged directly into the master socket without any ADSL filters. You will lose your broadband connection during the test, but it will eliminate any problem with the BT Home hub, or the microfilter.
ADSL does not start until 30kHz, which is well above the range that an analogue modem works at.

How can i turn off Find My iPad without using the iPad?

My swipe screen has stopped working completely on my iPad. Very disappointing as it is only 18 months old and has been well looked after! I have tried holding down the off/on button and menu button to reboot but this doesn't work. I have now logged the fault with Apple and have an appointment to see someone in the support team this Monday. However, I wanted to try one more thing. I want to restore to factory settings as I've read that this could resolve the problem. When I plug it in to iTunes and try to restore iPad i get a warning message telling me I need to go to iCloud settings on my iPad and turn off Find My iPad before restoring. As I cannot use the iPad I cant do it from there. Is there another way? Please help me, I want to weep!

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE (this will disable Find My iPhone)
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

Organizing Albums in iPhoto on the iPad/iPhone

I have an iPad Air and an iPhone 5, and prefer to have my photos arranged by Albums, Not "events" But in iPhoto on these, when I look at the album view it arranges the albums alphabetically, whereas I want to have them arranged by topic - the topic organization I choose.
I edit and create the albums in iPhoto on my Mac, and have them organized the way I want there. Why doesn't it keep that arrangement of the albums? I can't find out any way to rearrange them the way I want them.
Why can't we organize things the way we want?
By the way, it is much easier to edit and organize o nthe mac, with its bigger screen and extra screens.
Also, is there a way to have Photos, or iPhoto (on the iPad & iPhone) access the keywords and titles I have given them in iPhoto on the Mac?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run Option #4 to rebuild the database

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I've backed up, download 7.0.4, and restored my iPad 2, but it is "stuck" in "setup" mode. How do I move on to using the iPad?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

Sorry, missed that fact. My memory is good, but short.
Try moving the "Calendar Cache" file to your Desktop. Quit iCal, and find the "Calendar Cache" file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars. Move that file to your Desktop. After that, (I remember that I recommended this before), as long as you are moving files to the Desktop, repeat the plist removal procedure once again, log out/in or restart.
You should also consider removing the "To Do's" from Mail before restarting iCal. When you open iCal turn off "Show Birthdays calendar" in iCal>Preferences...>General.
Are you syncing any data? If so, what method(s) are you using?

Ah, I understand the problem, and YES , that is a problem with the iPad, since there is no true File System within the iPad, there's no way to do what you're trying (at least that I know). I've had my iPad since May 2010, and have never been able to get past that.
This is one of the areas where and iPad (or any tablet) falls short of a true laptop or other computer.
Sorry to be the one to let you know that.
Unless someone can correct me, I think you're stuck with using another system to get your files uploaded.

Using the iPad as a signature pad

We would like to use an iPad as a signature pad for a document on as desktop computer. I've researched several apps but they all seem to want the document on the iPad but we will need to have the document on the desktop computer. We would like to be able to connect the iPad through its cable and use the iPad as a signature pad for the document(s) that require a signature.
These are work computer computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.

You could crank up a screen sharing app on the pc which the ipad could access. Use can then sign document.
I'm drawing a blank. What were the names of those tablets you could use to draw on as input devices to computers? Could look for such an app in the app store.

Can I use the iPad to create video of notetaking with audio?

I'm looking to use iBook Author to create some units of study for my students. I want to create a video that is just of my notes (not of my hand writing the notes) and an audio of me explaining what I'm doing while I'm writing the notes. Is there a way to use the iPad for this, or is there a program or an app that I could use for this? I also have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone in addition to my iPad.
Edited to add: What I'm thinking of is somewhat like the Khan Academy uses to teach students in their videos. It's just their writing with audio, but it's not a video of them writing, which makes me think that there's some app or software they're using to show the notetaking that records audio and turns it into a video.

Screenchomp is a good app that we use at a school for this - its owned by Techsmith, the same company that owns Jing and Camtasia, two leaders in the market. Two other options to look at (which I preferred to Screenchomp) are ShowMe and Educreations.
