Using the 'Missing Sync' program on Mac Air OSX 10.8.2 & BB Bold

After reading about the impossibility of syncing Mac Calendars to my BB Bold, I came across the software called Missing Sync.
Before I spent $29.95, does anyone on the board here have any experience of this program?
Thanks
Tess

Nor did the white corrosive agent present exist at the point of sale.

  • Missing Sync or Pocket Mac

I currently have a Motorola v3i but I am returning it as I do not like the phone's address book/calendar functionality. I am considering replacing it with the XDA Mini S, which, as it is a Windows Mobile 2005 device, will not work correctly with iSync.
Therefore, I will be looking at The Missing Sync or Pocket Mac (hoping they are updated to work with WM2005 as per their web sites).
I have used Pocket Mac before to synchronise an iPaq with AB/iCal and quite like the way it integrates with iSync.
I have never used The Missing Sync but quite like it's features.
Have any other contributors to this forum used both of these products? Which would you recommend?

I can only speak of PocketMac Pro, (I’m posting a missing sync message today myself), and can say that it is certainly a love/hate relationship. If you have very basic tasks like syncing to only one program, it can work pretty well, but it falls flat many times. Their support, while prompt (within 24h), typically returns canned messages that, in my experience, never answer my problems and I have to deal with them for several more days. They make a lot of claims as to what their software can do, but definitely believe the ymmv rule on this one. They also seem to lag behind in developing with Apple’s progress on the OS. For example, I had things working pretty well before Tiger, but the syncing services just wreaks havoc on PocketMac Pro.

  • The Missing Sync by Mark Space

Does anyone have any experience using the Missing Sync with the iPhone? Does it work with with syncing notes?

jbarrows, I have just helped a friend with Missing Sync for iPhone, and it was a dissapointing experience. Their website does not make it explicitly clear ([see here|http://www.markspace.com/missingsynciphonenotes.php]), but two-way note synchronization is NOT supported. Here's the deal with note synchronization:
(Information valid as of Feb 15, 2008, pre-iPhone SDK release, but presumably valid until further notice from Mark/Space and likely until summer '08 when developers can vend their wares.)
[Missing Sync for iPhone by Mark/Space|http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_iphone.php] does NOT sync notes From Mac TO iPhone, but rather only syncs notes created on the iPhone to your mac, readable on Missing Sync's Notes app or a few other apps.
This was so disappointing to my friend that I negotiated with Missing Sync to refund her the purchase price, which they did do. They are a great company, but the MSiPhone product does not, in my opinion, provide the needed functionality. This is not their fault, however. I believe with the SDK kit out, by summer we'll see full note syncing along with the other basic functionality that should be enabled in a smartphone device of it's caliber--search, to-dos, etc.
If you feel moved, you can make a suggestion to Apple developers about the iPhone note syncing capability [here|http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html]. Employees do monitor these boards, but it's best to use the Feedback mechanism.
There are Web-based applications which can serve as good (temporary?) work-arounds for your problem, however. These WebApps can be found [here|http://www.apple.com/webapps>, most are in the Productivity section [here|http://www.apple.com/webapps/productivity>. All are web-based, meaning you can access them from a WebApp on your iPhone through Safari, and on your desktop via a web browser. You can put this WebApp on your iPhone-homepage to make it convenient to access on the iPhone (it will give you an option to do so when you decide to download the app, and you can move things around on your home page by pressing and holding a homepage item for 3 seconds, at which time all the items will start to jiggle, and you can move things around).
My friend was deciding between three WebApps for her noting needs:
[PogoNotes|http://www.apple.com/webapps/productivity/pogonotes.html]: a clean and simple interface, but does not offer many options. She chose this option.
[Listingly|http://www.apple.com/webapps/productivity/listingly.html]: a more powerful but less intuitive and clean interface--many different kinds of lists and notes.
[Noter|http://www.apple.com/webapps/productivity/noter.html]: a simple but less clean interface in my opinion, doesn't offer many options.
Do post back other questions. ~jeremy

Hello, I use MAC AIR OSX 10.6.8 and have Adobe CS2, that I was using 2 years ago on my older computer. I stopped using it because it would close down in the middle of work. Now I would like to reinstall it on the MacAir but I can not get it working. It tells Adobe doesnT support my System. But I can not update my old version or activate it. What can I do?

The mac you want to install photoshop cs2 on is running mac os x 10.6.8 Snow Leopard?
(photoshop cs2 won't run on intel macs with mac os x newer than snow leopard)
Did you ever have cs2 installed on this particular computer before?
If the problem is that you already installed cs2, but it won't activate, that's because adobe took the activation servers offline for some older adobe products such as cs2.
You'll need to use the non activation version of cs2 from here and the supplied serial number:
Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products

  • The Missing Sync for Palm OS v6.0.4 won't run with my Palm Tungsten E2

Having problems with Palm iSync on My iBook with 10.4.11 I bought The Missing Sync.
I removed Palm Desktop and installed Missing Sync. However sync won't start when I press the HotSync button.
Is my Palm Tungsten E2, running Palm OS Garnet v. 3.1.1 too old?
If so, can I upgrade it?

No, there is nothing published - that I am aware of - other than the Missing Sync User Guide that you received [as portable document format file] when you purchased the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
There is some developer documentation available from Apple, but it has little direct bearing on anything like the issue you are seeing. Your crash logs should have provided an indication of what was going on, and - using them - Mark/Space should have been able to identify your issue pretty easily.
It's very difficult to troubleshoot unusual issues remotely. Common problems - which can be easily identified - are readily corrected just by following the instructions posted by some knowledgable person here in the Apple Discussions forums. Given the unique circumstances you report of total failure following the installation of the Missing Sync, it's very likely that the actual culprit in your configuration is NOT the Palm desktop, iSync, .Mac Sync, the Missing Sync for Palm OS or your Treo 600. Something unique about your configuration is likely responsible. Trying to eliminate the variables, though, is not an easy task.
One relatively easy way to troubleshoot such issues is to create a new user, reinstall the Missing Sync and attempt to synchronize using that new user account. If that process is successful, you'll immediately know that something involving your existing user account is responsible for the issue.

I can not see any other way of showing a side bar view and i can not access any way of controling the sycn service. It seems to be syncing calander but not my contacts. Have I missed something?

  • How can i sync music from mac air to zen creative mp3 player

how can i sync music from mac air to zen creative mp3 player

iTunes will only sync with Apple devices.  You may find when you plug in your player it appears on hte desktop as another drive.  You can drag files from iTunes to that drive.  You may need to then place them in a special folder but all this is something for you to research since players differ.  We use a Sansa Clip and a RCA player with our iTunes library and that how we do it.
Make sure your player can play the format files you have in your collection.  Our slightly older players will not play AAC which is the standard format used by the iTunes Store.  If you find that to be the case you will have to convert formats.

    Hello nicky:
You should run repair disk from your software install DVD before you try anything else. The crash may have damaged some of your directories - and a possible cause of the "missing/not missing" tunes.

  • If I use the new sync-function, I keep losing my bookmarks or at least some of them during syncronisation. Is the new sync just as bad as the old one?

Just like with the old version of Firefox Sync I keep losing at least parts of my bookmarks when I'm using the new Sync version.
Anytime I change any of my bookmarks on one of my computers, I not only miss the change on other computers, but I also loose parts of the original bookmarks as well.
To me it seems that the new Sync is no better than the old one?

When you switched over to the new account, when you set it up the profile was blank and the name was: "uglings Firefox auf home1-ugling". Then on another login for the same computer, the name on the account was the same, so you changed the name.
So when you added bookmarks on the newly named computer account (the restricted account), all of the bookmark folders disappeared.
Summary for clarification, sorry for the repetitiveness.
    STR:
    # unlink account from old sync
    # create new windows account on same computer
    # on new account create sync account that has a blank profile and wait to sync. name is CILBMHVM6DT
    # go to the previous windows account and add the new sync account to the old profile. (i did get a warning that there was an older account that was signed into, but I hit sync anyway) name was WIN-CILBMHVM6DT
    # Wait for it to sync.
    # rename the computer name associated with sync on old profile because it has the same name.(renamed old one to WIN-2)
    # Add bookmarks to new windows account
    # Go back to old windows account and see the new folder, but some previous folders are missing and bookmarks are out of their original folder.
    Expected:
Merged folders to remain same file structure
    Results:
Some bookmarks are not in folders that no longer appear in the bookmarks toolbar folder.
2 accounts on the same computer connected to the same Firefox Sync account had the same name and deleted some bookmark folders.
I filed a bug on this:
However in the meantime we can only recreated the folders that are missing on the accounts that you have set up. If this happens again, I will ask if it has to do with the unique identifier of each device attached to an account (I am assuming that its just the name that we renamed) But please also continue the discussion for this in the bug.
    Thank you!

  • I am told that the start-disc of my Mac Air is full and that I have to delete files. What do I do ?

I am told that the start-disc of my Mac Air is full and that I have to delete files. What do I do ?

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Mark/Space releases version 4 of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile OS

Mark/Space has released the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile version 4, which offers many feature improvements. Among them, likely the most important is support for the Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
A full list of what's new in this release is available here.

I installed the beta version of Missing Sync last night. It seems to be working well (contacts and calendar). Note that only Bluetooth connections are supported and you must read the detailed instructions for getting this to work.
I have yet to try a software installation.
I tried running Activesync 4.2 within Virtual PC 7 but it was hopeless so needed a Mac solution.

  • Unable to sync with 'the missing sync'

i just downloaded an app to sync my pam pre with my palm desktop, but it only lets me sync with outlook.  palm desktop is not even an option.  how can i fix that?  i dont use outlook, i use palm desktop as my primary organizer.

I think you're right. The Missing Sync web site doesn't mention Palm Desktop.
You could investigate some other sync products. Some of these list Palm Desktop as a supported sync destination:
