Using the optical input/ output on Audigy 2 zs: cable doesn't

So I've searched and can't find an answer on this forum
The optical cable that I have that fits into the back of my Playstation 2 does not fit into the mic in (which I thought is optical in as well)
So is it possible to have an optical cable go from a ps2 to the audigy 2 zs? Do I need a special optical cable?
Thanks, this may be a stupid question, but I am lost cause on the card it does say "optical in" but the optical cable doesn't fit it.
Thanks
DD

DD,
There isn't any optical I/O jack on the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard at all so you won't be able to use your optical cable with the soundcard unless you have the I/O dri've bay like those from the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or Platinum Pro. Do you have those I/O dri've bay instead of just the soundcard?

  • Question on the optical digital output.

Can anyone with a new iMac give me some clue as to what the optical digital output looks like?
As I understand it, its combined with a headphones port, this is where I am confused.
Does it look like a standard Phono type input (Coaxial) or does it have a little red light shining out?
I need to know before I order as I want to output to dac.
    Cheers

The optical Jack is just like the normal mini-jack you use for the headphones.
You have to look for a "mini-toslink" cable or adapter. Since most receiver have Toslink digital input, you should buy a toslink-toslink cable and a mini-toslink adapter.
you put the mini-toslink in the headphone output port and the mac automatically switches to digital output.
If you want to watch to a movie in DVD player, insert the DVD, press play, press stop, go to DVDplayer>preferences>sound output>digital output.
I have to choose it every time I watch to a DVD...

  • External Drive Disk Erase Failed with the Error Input/Output Error

I have 2 hard drives in an external FW800 enclosure that I am unable to format. When I go to initialize the drives in Disk Utility, I get the following error message: "Disk Erase failed with the error: Input/output error."
The drives show up in Disk Utility, but I can't repair them (that option is grayed out). Disk Utility correctly ID's the manufacturer of the drives (Maxtor), their size (200gb each), so it's obviously seeing that the drives are there. But it won't let me format them.
The drives are new, by the way; they don't have any data/files on them. I have Disk Warrior, but the drives don't show up there to be repaired -- probably because they aren't formatted yet.
After looking at other posts, I tried switching the jumper settings around on the drives -- from Master/Slave to cable select and back again, but it didn't help. I also tried doing a zero erase (even though the drives are new), zapping the PRAM -- again, no help.
One question I had is whether this could be a bad FW800 cable? The cable is new -- it came with the enclosure, which is an OWC Dual FW 800 enclosure. Other than that, does anyone have any other thoughts about what's causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    SOLUTION!!!!
I had the exact same problem. I have the original 20 GB hard drive that came in my Powerbook G4 550MHz and a couple of years ago I traded up for a 60 GB drive and bought a FW/USB enclosure for my original drive to use it to backup my important files. I hadn't backed up in over a year (shame on me!) and I decided maybe I should erase the drive and start from scratch. It was connected via USB.
At that point DiskUtility gave me the exact same Input/Output error. I tried partitioning the drive into 1 or more partitions but came up with the same error. I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I decided to startup in OS 9.2.2, I did that and let it start up, then plugged in the hard drive and it gave me the standard "This disk is unrecognizable, do you want to eject or erase?" so I clicked Initalize. It worked!
Just make sure you choose the MacOS Extended option when initializing out of OS 9 (instead of the MacOS Standard option) so it can be read and viewed in OS X.
If your computer is too new to be able to boot from an OS 9 folder on your drive or an OS 9 CD, then see if a friend or a local library has older computers that are running OS 9 or can boot from it. If not let me know and you can send me your drive and I'll reformat it.
Kind of crazy...I haven't used the OS 9 partition on my HD in YEARS...was even thinking about erasing it since I don't use any Classic applications anymore...good thing I didn't!

  • Using the optical drive of a MacBook Pro from new iMac for iTunes

Can I connect my macbook pro to my new iMac (no optical drive) with ethernet cable and use the optical drive of the macbook pro to upload CDs to iTunes on the new iMac?

On my 17" MacBook Pro I use the eSata port for Black X Duet Hard Drive Docking station where I put 2 1TB Hitachi internal drives. They are swappable and are about $80.00US. I use the USB port for my system backup and a G-force 500 MB bus powered portable drive on the FW800 port just for the heck of it. It works out really well for me.

  • Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal.

  • How to use the Optical in on 002r with Logic Studio?

    Hi there
i'm trying to figure out a problem that i really can't find a solution,i'm using Logic studio 8 whith Digi 002rack and 7.4 core audio version,my question is how to select in logic the optical IN of the 002r that in my case is connected to my triton rack synth?
i can use the spdif in of the 002 but i can't find a way to use the optical in.
    thanks all

I dont know if you will be able to connect other device like PS3 or Wii.
As far as I know only the Xbox 360 could be connected to a Qosmio and could be used with the Windows MCE.
I presume this is possible due to connection of Microsoft products; MCE and Xbox360
To be honest; why you dont take a look into the user manual if this notebook is new to you?
All details are mentioned in the user manual which is already preinstalled on the notebook.

    Hi experts,
I got warning while creating travel expense from existing travel request.

I don't want user to enter detail of address trip destination.
    how to avoid this?

    Hi,
If you are using ESS and you get the warning message when you enter details for a particular expense type. Please follow the config and hide the location details. Then you will not get this error message.
SAP Customizing Implementation Guide > Financial Accounting (New) > Travel Management > Travel Expenses > Dialog and Travel Expenses Control > Dialog Control > Field Control for Additional Receipt Information.
Enter your trip provision variant, select the expense type for which you dont want to enter the location details and then select details. Search for the variable location, select hide radio button and save.
Please let me know if you have further clarifications.

  • Do I have to use the same Audio Output and Input source???

In logic express 7.2.3 I can get everything to work fine except when I want to set my sound output to be different than the input device.
I want the Audio Input to be : "Roland USB device"
I want the Audio Output to be "Built in Output"
This works perfectly in Garage Band but not in LogicExpress 7.
As far as I can tell core audio in Logic only gives you the option to use the same device for input and ouput. This makes it impossible for me to record guitar or bass parts in Logic because in order to hear anything in Logic I have to set my systems sounds prefs to use my USB device for both Audio In and Out. This means the guitar is playing through my speakers regardless if LE7 is running or not... and when it is running I hear the guitar at speaker level which means I can't hear it at mix level or any of the effects that may be applied to it.
    Help please!
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thanks... I did that but and it works (sort of ) but now there is a HUGE amount of latency. The audio also starts to crackle after a while. I know this input device is a few years old and the latency could be better but it works completely fine with Garage Band so I'm not sure what to do.

  • When using the analog inputs and analog outputs of the PCI-7344, what is the conversion between the voltage entering the card to counts? Similarly, what is the conversion between counts to voltage at the output of the card?

I am using the PCI-7344 to control my system. The analog inputs are connected to the output of my system while the analog outputs serve as feedback to the system. The system is a servo. I want to know what is the conversion between the voltage read at the input, to card counts, and finally to the voltage output to the system.

    Carole,
If you are trying to do analog feedback with a servo motor, Chapter 14 of the manual talks about how to set up the torque feedback. Also linked below is a LabVIEW example of analog feedback.

  • Is there a way to digitize audio using the headphone input on the 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input.  I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching.  I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio.  But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone.  Am I missing something?  Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?

Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

  • Using Counters as Input & Output simultaneously

    Hello All,
I am using PCI 6221 (68 pin), I am using one of the counters as inputting pulses to a servo, can I use the other counter "Counter 2" for counting thoses pulses which I am generating from "Counter 1", also I want to make it synchronized.
As soon as I generate pulses my reading counter should start, anyone help me with some example.
    Using LV 8.0
    Thanks

    Hello James,
If you are outputting a continuous pulse train then you should be able to use the second counter to read them back in.  If you're doing a finite generation to the servo motor then that task is actually using both counters (one counter gates the other:  How Many Counters Does Each Type of Counter Input or Output Task Take?).  Assuming that you do have an available counter then you can run any of the single counter input tasks listed in the above KnowledgeBase article.  There are a number of counter input task examples in the LabVIEW Example Finder that you can access by opening LabVIEW and going to Help» Find Examples...  Then navigate to Hardware Input and Output» DAQmx» Counter Measurements.  From there you'll need to find the example for whatever type of measurement you want to do.
Synchronization is a different issue.  In general synchronization requires that two tasks start at the same time and share a timebase.  In this case, you can start the counter input task first since it will be waiting on the counter output to start measurements.  Then, if you do a buffered counter input measurement (see example finder--you'll need to set up an implicit sample clock), you'll get exactly one counter input measurement for each period of the counter output.  This happens because for frequency/period/pulse width the counter latches one value on each rising or falling edge so the measurements are automatically synced.
I hope this helps, and have a great day!

  • Wscompile stubbornly uses SOAPElement as input/output to/from operation.

Hello. I am trying to create a web service client to consume our own web service using JWSDP 1.6. I have modified webserviceclient.xml to add "features=searchschema" in the wscompile element.
That correctly creates proxy classes for all the complexTypes in our web service's schema. However, our operation called runTransaction() should be accepting an object of type RequestMessage and returning an object of type ResponseMessage. The code generated by wscompile accepts and returns SOAPElement instead.
I have blindly tried all sorts of combinations of features (e.g. unwrap, explicitcontext) when calling wscompile but to no avail.
Am I missing something? When and why would wscompile not use the correct classes as input/output for any given operation? When and why would it choose SOAPElement instead?
In its current state, the generated code would let me populate the RequestMessage object with data but I do not see how I can eventually pass this RequestMessage object to the runTransaction() method (unless maybe I use serialization or something but that seems unnecessarily complicated). So, the generated proxy classes seem useless at this point.
Thanks. I'd really appreciate any help/direction.

Hello. I went ahead and added resolver.jar file to my classpath. Then, it looked for XMLStreamException, which I found in sjsxp/lib/jsr173_api.jar (which I have yet to find out what it's for). I went ahead and added that too. And now, I'm getting the stack trace below.
    1. Why is it looking for a class from BEA?
    2. How do I make it not to?
Please note that I do not have any configuration file or anything. Is there some client-side deployment file that I need to have and configure?
    Thanks again,

  • How do I use the analog input (ADC) to drive a motion profile in MAX

We are trying to use an anolog input signal from a DAQ card to control the motion contol axis.  For now, we want the motor speed to follow a sinusoidal voltage waveform, and later on, we will be using a more complex velocity profile.
In order to accomplish this task, we have searched the user forum, and found information suggesting to operate the servo motor in 'slave' mode under the 'gearing' option.  Therefore, we have set the Gear Master to 'ADC Channel-1', Mode set to 'absolute', Gear ratio 1:1, and provided the sinusoidal voltage (+/- 5V, 3 Hz) to the AIN1 connector on the MID-7654 controller.  When using the 1-D Interacitve 'single axis' control panel, the motor runs at constant speed in one direction only.  It does not react to the sinusoidal speed profile request as we expected.
How do we 'turn on' the 'slave' mode in MAX?  Please talk us through the necessary steps and settings?  Thanks.
    Staffan

    Staffan,
you can configure and enablethe Gearing mode in MAX and it should be activated after saving the settings and initializing the board. In 1D-Interactive you can't use Gearing. For better flexibility I recommend not using MAX for configuring and enbling Gearing. You better should do this in your application.
In fact there is a perfect LabVIEW-example that ships with the NI-Motion driver (Master Analog Input - Slave Axis Gearing.vi)
    I hope this helps,
