Using the text search tool

Question

I usually supply my clients a link to a selection of photos to chose from. When they are happy, the email me a list of photos. _MG_1234, 1345,1456 etc etc.
So I make a coffee and click the Text Tool and if I accidently forget to select Filename Contains from Contains all when I start entering the list of numbers....
umbrella of pain just sits and spins.
It usually spins for 15 to 20 seconds per 4 digit filename I enter.
I now just make a long list in textmate 1234, 1345, 1456 and paste them in hit enter and go for a coffee.
This seach is not just depressingly slow its an utterly appalling search.
Yes I get the right images, but at searching is so so slow.
I've only got 74,000 file on a server, obviously the database on my mac's hard drive.
The catalogue is optimised every 2 weeks or so. I'm not running photoshop, Indesign nor any processor intensive software, infact usually 25% of 2 cores is max what I use lightroom so the poor old thing has a chance.

I've tried lightroom as 64 bit as well as 64 bit and its does not seem to make a bit of difference
Any thoughts on how to speed this up apart from buying a G5 with a rocket.
I wondered whether this was a feature request asking for speed, but this would join a queue for a damn better dam.
This is really not acceptable. I love lightroom and it saves me 100's or hours a week, unless I search for a list of photos, then it just crawls like a mouse swimming through cold treacle.
This is also not just a rant, though it has every right to be. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
