Using the WRT54Gv6 as a Switch

First, I have read as much as I can stomach over the last week or so on this issue, and that is a lot. I learned a ton about these and many more issues but I am still not 'with it,' so I must post.
We have a BEFSR41 non-wireless router behind a bonded T1 that is simply configured, 192.168.1.1, DHCP 2 to 50. All of the computers on that network can browse to and see other computers/shares/printers on the network via Windows Explorer.
The addition of the WRT54Gv6 wireless router (all I wanted was a simple wireless switch) was to allow new users to access the LAN (and vice-versa) via a wireless connection as that portion of the building is not yet wired. This new router is cable-connected to a switch on the back end of the primary wired router.
Things had to move quickly so I was forced to go with a default routed setup: 192.168.2.1, DHCP 2 to 50. Regardless of NetBIOS enabled over TCP/IP they cannot see the original wired LAN. The ridiculous part is that since the 192.168.2.1 network *can* see the original LAN via IP I built a quick little HOSTS solution to at least allow the wireless users to get to shares and printers. They cannot browse across this new routed point using good old computer names in Windows Explorer.
SO - do I have to completely change out the router OS (firmware) with DD-WRT or something of the like to make this work? It seems crazy to me at this point that they cannot build a simple wireless access point with WEP/WPA built into it.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

I wondered if access point was the term I was looking for; it seemed logical. I have tried what you mention as I have seen that process mentioned before; I am going to try resetting to defaults, flashing with 1.01.1 and try it again. I am not sure if this will resolve the problem with this model yet.
I disabled DHCP, but in that same area the router configuration page is hard-coded to start with 192.168.*2.* I am not sure if this is even relevant as what I have seen in the past could have been for a previous hardware release (v.5 or otherwise). I won't get to play with it again until after the holidays, but I intend to find out if I can leave this area blank. It spat me a conflicting error in the past when I tried to give that area 192.168.1.100 for example (I had read that some people were able to configure both LAN and WLAN ports with IPs from the same subnet...not so with this model so far). I had the primary configuration area set to 192.168.1.101 with 255.255.255.0, the DNS servers and the like.
Plugging the actual cable into anything other than the Internet port doesn't work (I know this is wrong, it should be in one of the 4 switch ports on the back but I get no response from the 192.168.1.0 network when I set it like that).
I didn't actually purchase this unit and I fear it is too late to take it back. I am of the opinion so far that we may well have been better served by a WAP54G, yes? ;o)

How to use the WRT54G2 as a switch...not a router?

I've got one linksys wirless router that's providing DHCP addresses, doing MAC filtering, and allowing access to the internet (it's hooked up to our DSL modem). The wireless signal doesn't reach to our other building (lots of brick and steel in the walls), so I've run a hardwire from the main building into that 2nd building.
We've got all wireless devices in the 2nd building. I want to use the linksys in the main building to hand out DHCP and do MAC filtering for the devices in building 2, if possible (don't want to have to maintain 2 MAC lists, and would like wireless devices to be able to go between buildings).
How do I setup the WRT54G2 in building 2 for this scenerio? Do I goto "Advanced Routing" and set the operation to "router" rather than "gateway"? Do I then use RIP? Or...do I do something else?
Any help would be great...thank you!!

Anyone use the Sun Datacenter Infiniband Switch 36? (part of Exadata 2)

Hi all,
As part of looking more closely at Exadata 2 I'm trying to figure out how to monitor the beast, and the [Switch 36|http://www.sun.com/products/networking/datacenter/ds36/] seems to be part of it. The docs [mention firmware 1.1.2 and how to get it|http://docs.sun.com/source/835-0784-03/z40005751839041.html#scrolltoc] on the A-Z download page... which doesn't exist :)
If anyone has used this switch: is it easy to configure? How does it compare to other Infiniband switches from other vendors with the same number or ports (or is it a rebranding of another model)? Do you monitor it with SNMP? IPMI? Web access?
Or do you know where I can get the latest firmware?

How can I use the YouView remote to switch HDMI in...

I have the latest style YouView remote with the large YouView and BT Vision buttons.
It's programmed to my control my Sony TV, with channel up/down, volume up/down and power on/off working fine. But there's no button that switches between HDMI inputs on my TV (per my old Sky remote) meaning I still need to retain the use of the TV's own remote for this.
Any ideas?

How do I use the NI 9481 to switch a load on for 30s and off for 30s?

I am attempting to turn a load on and monitor voltages using Signal Express and a cDAQ. I have a NI 9481 Relay module but I am having a problem figuring out how to set it up. I need to have the relay close for 30 seconds and open for 30 seconds.

Setting up a home network using the new USB551L modem

I have recently switched from the 3G USB760 modem to the new 4G LTE USB511L modem. Since I live in a very rural area, it is one of the few internet options that I have and I am forced to use it for my home. I previously set up a wireless network using the previous modem by connecting a wireless router to my computer by ethernet cord. I then went under the properties of the connection in order to allow other computers/devices to use the connection. Since switching to the new USB modem, the network does not appear under the list of options when using the Windows 7 network connections icon in the lower right corner of the screen. I am trying to set up a similar wireless network for my house but I am having difficulty. It seems that everything will connect to the wireless router but the router is lacking internet connection. Any advice is appreciated.

Why can't I use command+alt+arrows to switch between tabs correctly anymore?

I used to be able to use the method of command+alt+left or right arrows to switch between tabs. For example: I could be playing an online game, and be clicking things inside of the box on the screen that the game was on, use the method, and easily switch to another tab. Now, however, it doesn't let me switch between tabs unless i click outside of the game area.

Don't forget that there are many "pieces" to internet access that must all be set to make manual IP selection work, namely:
1) Your IP address
2) The addresses of your DNS servers
3) The default route via which packets leave your network ("router" in Network->TCP/IP)
4) Your subnet mask
As mentioned above you also need to assign an address from outside the DHCP pool that is on the same subnet, as at least some routers will refuse to route traffic that seems to originate from IP addresses that fall within the DHCP pool over which it has control if it did not yet assign that IP address to a client.

Is there a hotkey to break the handles of points while you're using the pen tool?

When you use the pen tool, it smooths the points as you add them, but sometimes I don't want that, So far, the only way I've been able to combat this is by using the pen tool, pressing V to switch to the selection tool, clicking elsewhere to deselect the path, then pressing P to use the pen tool again, and then selecting the end point again.
This process is becoming very annoying over the course of long projects, and I'm hoping that someone will be able to solve it for my.
(I specifically want the hotkey for Mac, but it would be good if you could give the PC hotkey too for other people looking at this.)

Can I publish my RoboHelp project directly to a web server using the Generate Primary Layout (WebHelp) function?

I am hoping to improve my method of publishing my company

Currently, I generate the RoboHelp layout to a folder on my
local computer and then manually upload the project output files to
our sever via SmartFTP. My question is how do I publish directly to
the server? Is this possible?
On the first page of the Generate Primary Layout "wizard", I
have entered the path to a local folder on my computer. Three
screens later in the Servers box of the "wizard", I have entered a
server and path, and checked its box. When I generated the output,
I expected it to be published to both locations: the local folder
and the web server folder. But it only publishes to the local
folder, not the web server.
How do I get it publish to the server also?

I had been using the HTTP setting, so switched to FTP and
filled in server info. This time the Publish function began
working! However, the process has since hit a snafu.
Certain files are causing errors and I'm getting a message
such as this one:
Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file: image

When I click OK to the first error message, I then get this
one:

After clicking OK to the 2nd error msg, the Publish fails and
I get this:

Issue:
Cisco firewalls require only one level of password i.e. the domain username and password are used for both logging in as well as reaching global configuration mode.
Background:
We have multiple Cisco network devices set up which authenticate to our Windows domain controller using NPS (Windows 2008 R2). The switches we have set up all function exactly as we would hope as they require your domain username and password to login to the device. They then require a separate password when you use the enable command, this is stored in Active Directory:

Cisco ASA works that way by design. You could remove "aaa authentication enable" and then you could use the "enable password" command to set your enable password.
But if you do that, then ASA would change your username to "enable_15". That would break Authorization and Accounting if you're using them. Let me clarify with an example

How do i connect my mac mini to a kvm switch using the hdmi to dvi adapter?

I want to connect my Mac Mini using the HDMI to DVI adapter to a KVM switch cable. I have an Iogear KVM switch. The cable from the KVM switch has a male VGA end connection. I have been trying to determine the right adapter to connect the female DVI connection to the male VGA connector. I will be using the Mac mini and a PC running through the KVM switch. This is doable as the iogear switch is compatible with both a PC and a Mac. Any ideas out there? Thank you.

You would need to get HDMI or DVI to VGA CONVERTER, not a simple adopter. The converter requires USP connection for power. HDMI is only digital while VGA is analogue.
