Using thunderbolt port disables wifi in Boot Camp

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an early 2012 Macbook Pro. When I plug in my new LaCie Rugged 1TB external drive to the thunderbolt port, my wifi is disabled.
The drive shows up and works correctly, but no wifi. If I reboot in Mac OS, the wifi is works fine. I only use Windows however and this drive is for Lightroom storage, and I need wifi. I have seen many posts where users have found an external display connected to the thunderbolt port (using Mac OS) disables wifi and the solution was to change the wireless channel in the wifi utility. I have tried every channel on my Airport Extreme with no success. Very strange that I can get wifi with external drive connected using Mac OS but not in Boot Camp. I need this drive connected to the thunderbolt port to free up the USB ports for my card readers and other drives. The wifi is fine as long as I don't use the thunderbolt port, so this issue is isolated to the thunderbolt port and Boot Camp. Any suggestions, please?

Unfortunately no. I'm learning slowly that nothing much gets done by Apple for issues that require Apple's intervention, i.e. this would appear that the solution would require Apple updating the Thunderbolt Drivers for Bootcamp within an updated Bootcamp drivers update (I have Bootcamp version 5 which I dowloaded from Apples download section and appears still to be the most current).
I have reported this a few times on the Apple feedback page, but that has never ever eventually returned a solution either (just falls on deaf ears), maybe that rout has returned results for some lucky users but never ever set the ball rolling for a solution to many issues I have put forward on the feedback system.
I must admit that Windows support had surprised me recently; I have an attached device to my MacBook Pro that when booting in Windows Bootcamp appeared to lose some of it's functionality when I logged into my usual Windows account (within Bootcamp), yet if I logged into Windows as the 'root/super user' the functionality was all there. Upon posting this on the Microsoft forums I was taken aback that not only did a Microsoft professional answer by query (no charge involved) but they gave me a procedure that corrected the problem. On the basis of this I believe Apple really need to see the bigger picture and at the very, very least analyze and read the stuff posted in their forums, maybe occasionally replying but if not so then to at least read up on the issues and secretly act on them. I'm fast going of Apple having joined their band wagon ten years ago (from PC).
On the other hand Apple probably think it's fun for me to tiresomely and relentlessly have to keep changing picture mode settings every single time I boot up between OS X and Bootcamp, which can be many times a day - trust me it is not fun but extremely frustrating.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

Can I use my macbook pro mid 2012 as an external display using thunderbolt port

I want to use my macbook pro (mid 2012) screen as an external display for a raspberry pi using a HDMI to Thunderbolt cable, via the thunderbolt port on the macbook pro. Would this be possible? Can the macbook pro's thunder bolt port act as an input and is any additional software required?

You are referring to Target Display mode. Target Display mode can only be used in 27-inch iMacs and iMacs with Thunderbolt, not MacBooks Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Unfortunately, you can't use the MacBook Pro as a display. It doesn't support the monitor mode

today I use a 15" MacBookPro and have attached 1TB LaCie with FW800 (for time machine) and DVI-Display using Mini-port.
Need to add more external disk space and look for Lacie 2 TB with thunderbolt connection (for storing mass of pictures in Raid1 version)
Is it possible to connect the new disk, the other disk with an Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter and the DVI-Display to one thunderbolt port?

No, or at least not without additional hardware. You have too many end-points for one Thunderbolt chain.
You also have the problem that the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter is not yet for sale.
If the new disk you get has two Thunderbolt ports (which not all do), you could daisy-chain the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter behind it, but that adapter has to be at the end of the chain. The Mini-port->DVI adapter likewise needs to be at the end of a chain.
So, you can probably get all three connected at one time by connecting the "1TB LaCie with FW800 (for time machine)" to your FW800 port, while connecting the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter (when available) to the second port of the new disk. I say "probably" because nobody has the TB-FW adapter yet to try it.
As for doing it on one Thunderbolt port with additional hardware, you might look into third-party docking stations being released in the next few months. The announced prices are in the low-to-middle hundreds. I won't mention brand names, as this is an Apple forum, but they aren't too hard to find by web search.
The highest-priced solution would be the Apple Thunderbolt Display, which gives you a FW800 port for your 1TB drive, a pass-thru Thunderbolt port for your new disk, and of course a 2560x1440 display (plus ethernet and usb2 ports you may not need). It's available now, in the uppermost hundreds. There are some refurbs in the online Apple Store at the moment at 15% off.

Question: I am using a mac , wired Keyboard, on a windows 8.1 platform ( this is because I have boot camped my hard drive) Unfortunately when I change over from my mac set up into the windows 8.1 the key board does not behave like it does when I am using as a mac. The numbers , on the right of the keyboard , no longer function and I have to use the numbers at the top of the keyboard, very annoying. Can anybody let me know how I unlock the numbers on the right of my keyboard?

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

I have Windows 7 key through download purchase without the CD. I am trying to get Boot Camp to let me install with USB but something is not up to date. I don't even have the same sceen everyone else shows on the internet.
Question: How do I update my Boot Camp on my Mac. Every download on Apple is a .exe file, none are for Boot Camp update. I also pressed the software update option on my Mac 70 times and nothing to update.

You would need to update your Operating System to OS X Lion 10.7 or OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 to update Boot Camp to version 4 or 5. You can update your Operating System through the Mac App Store.

Why can I only use 2.48 GB RAM in Boot Camp (Win 8.1 Pro, 64-bit)?

Hello, I am fairly new to the iMac and I have to use some programs in Windows that are not available for Mac so I set up Boot Camp and installed Windows 8.1.
My iMac is a I7-2600 CPU @ 3.4GHz with 16 GB RAM, system type-bit. Under system in Windows it shows Installed memory (RAM) 16 GB (2.48 GB usable).
I read about this problem and most answers are related to people using 32-bit. So what is wrong in my case, where is the problem?

What is the year/model of your iMac (my guess is a 2011 iMac)? Can you post the output of the highlighted command from OS X Terminal?

Mac pro stopped charging after used old OS X dvd during boot camp partitioning

Macbook Pro, 15", Mid 2010, 2.4GHz i5, OS 10.6.8.
Need to split hard drive and install (via boot camp) Win 7 as want to run windows only CAD software.
During partitioning, boot camp asked me to insert original install discs. Couldn't find discs (don't recall ever seeing them)... so borrowed "15" Mac Book Pro Mac OS X Install DVD" disc from neighbour... inserted that (fingers crossed)... and completed partitioning.
But then found Mac switched off when I accidentally knocked power cable out of the Mac. Also note clock/caldendar needs resetting on each power up now, mac doesnt charge anymore (according to icon/batt status) running when on mains power only ...
Have just upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 (as wanted new features and hoped that might sort problem) but no improvement. Guess I've screwed up some of the low levels drivers....!?!
Too late to use time machine or time capsule as only just learnt about them!

You cannot use discs from another Mac unless they are exactly the same OS build as yours, for the exact same model as yours. The discs contain only the drivers for the hardware on that Mac, and there are other variants in software.
It's a minor miracle you can still boot at all.
Your own original discs will probably still be in the box, in a small box labeled 'everything else' (or something similar) which also contains the warranty booklet and a welcome to OS X guide.
You'll need to find those and start from scratch with a re-install to repair the damaged power management software, then do the Lion upgrade again.
Unfortunately, it may not work as simply as that, as getting back to SL from Lion isn't straightforward; just check the forums for the multiple threads on the issue.

Can I use a NVIDIA card only for Boot Camp in MacPro5,1

I bought an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and then found out that 3D (primarily for gaming) won't work with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card that I have in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot. I assume the easiest fix would be to put a NVIDIA card in one of the remaining PCI Express 2.0 x4 slots. A post from 2008 said that 2 cards should work if only one is plugged into the monitor at a time - one for MacOSX and the other for Boot Camp. I wanted to confirm if that still is the case for Boot Camp where I'm running Windows 7. What would be a reasonable NVIDIA card that would not exceed power of 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots (no other PCI cards currently); primarily for gaming with 3D option.
This would be for a Mac Pro bought in Nov 2010. Other relevant info:

300W is without using two 6-pin aux power video card cables, 75W per slot.
So as long as the 5870 is present you need to look into a 450W PSU to rig together to add 6/8-pin aux power to an additional card.
My understanding though is that a PC card under OS X needs support, the fan can run constantly.... not my forte as to how and what to expect.

How do I disable my trackpad on bootcamp? My trackpad (clicker?) is pressed in, so sometimes it goes crazy and hightlights stuff or clicks stuff randomly.. I just want to disable it. I know you can do it on the osx, but I have no idea how to do it on boot camp.. it would definitely help out if I can disable it.. because it just makes typing and doing things on windows very difficult. You could always just change your fstab file to denote that you don't want that particular mount to be checked...although that wouldn't fit in with your "after a certain number of times" idea.
If you don't mind my asking, why are you looking to do this? Since fsck checks the integrity of the filesystem it's trying to mount, and it usually doesn't take too long, why would you want to check it sometimes, and not others...I think it's extremely beneficial for unexpected filesystem problems caused by things like power-outtages, etc. Especially if you don't reboot too often, I guess I don't see the advantage...

Anybody using Apple RAID card in a Boot Camp system?

I can guess windows would not see/be able to use any disks/volumes controlled by the array, but I wondered if somebody had a system with :
1 - Mac Pro w/ 4 HDDs
2 - 1st drive with SL and Boot Camp 64 bit Windows (Vista or 7)
3 - Apple Mac Pro RAID card
4 - other 3 HDDs in a RAID 5 or 0
Is this possible? Is this just crazy (I do need Windows for some stuff).
If any experience can you also tell me what happens to the array when you went from 10.5 to 10.6 or Vista to Win 7?

Even though it's not the answer I wanted thanks for finalizing it for me. I think I'll give SoftRAID my 1st shot because they say it will let me do separate dual-boot disk.
Contrary to public opinion, not everything is possible with computers. They to have their limits.
One thing I hate about Apple's website is when I do not feel I got the definitive answer with a responder's first answer and then their next shot solves it for me, but I cannot seem to give them a solved credit.
You should have the possibilities to 'mark as helpful' and 'mark as solved' and also to mark the whole thread as 'solved'.

Can I use VMware as a solution to Boot Camp not working?

OK so here's the deal:
I've been trying to install WIndows XP SP2 via Boot Camp so that I can use my 80 GB zune with my new black macbook. Unfortunatley I've been running into problems. I didn't format my windows during set up and now when I try to run windows during boot camp a black screen with a white cursor in the left corner of the screen appears. I'm willing to buy VMware Fusion. Will VMware work if I'm having trouble with Boot Camp?

The simple answer is this. When you partition using the Boot Camp Assistant, it doesn't format anything, so it's all using the Mac Journaling File System. In order for Windows to work, it has to be on a FAT32 or NTFS file system, Windows itself can't read the Macs file system. And that friend... is why you had problems
