Using Time Capsule with 2nd wireless router

Hi,
I have been trying to extend my time capsule and have had limited luck.
I have my time capsule in my office which is a separate building behind my house. The cable internet service runs to this location. I purchased an airport express and put that in the house so we would have wireless access in the house. I have tried every location available in the house and it is still really slow. (I get a transmit rate of 270 in the office. In the house it ranges from 7 to 20).
So, I was thinking maybe I could run a 30ft or so ethernet cable from the time capsule to another wireless n router in the house. So when out in the office I would connect to the TC and in the house to the Linksys (or whatever I buy). My question: would this even work? Can I have 2 wireless routers and would the Linksys work if it was connected via ethernet to the timecapsule vs. being connected directly to the cable modem?
Alternatively, can you connect 2 cable modems to one incoming cable line if I could find another cable modem somewhere?

Temporarily, move the Express close to your computer and connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express for the configuration.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Select your AirPort Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode...set to Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name...Exact same name as your Time Capsule network
Radio Mode....802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) would be a good choice
Wireless Channel...Automatic
Wireless Security....Exact same setting as your Time Capsule network
Wireless Password....Exact same setting as your Time Capsule network
Wireless
Click the Internet icon
Look for the setting for Connection Sharing at the bottom of the page and set this to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update at the lower right of the window and close AirPort Utility immediately and disconnect the ethernet cable as soon as you see the message that your settings have been stored.
You can now move the Express to the location you need and connect the ethernet cable and power it up.

I am thinking about getting a TC, but I wanted to know if the following configuration would work:
DSL modem to existing wireless B router. Then have the TC recieve internet from the existing wireless router.
Basically I want to put the old router in the basement where the only wiring is, but put the TC upstairs on my desk so I can connect the printer to it.

Although, you can join an existing network using a Time Capsule as a wireless client, it’s recommended that the existing network is an 802.11n network.

Can I use Time Capsule with Broadband wireless router that also feeds a PC?

There is no vpn built into the native firmware of N16 so I presume you are going to use third party.
Just plug in the TC and bridge it.. ie go to Internet tab of airport utility and select connection sharing off.

In a PC network make sure you use the TC with a new name.. no spaces no special characters.. same with wireless. TC also restrict wireless on 2.4ghz to only 20mhz.. if you have the N16 set to 40mhz you will have to be extra careful with channels.. 40mhz will use up two channels and only one remains.. so your household will have filled the 2.4ghz.
Someone suggested you can turn off 2.4ghz in the TC by not naming it.. When I try that it kicks up an error that it has to be named. So perhaps someone else has a suggestion of how to turn off 2.4ghz.
You can turn off 5ghz by unchecking it. Seems mighty strange that you cannot turn off 2.4ghz but you can turn off 5ghz.

Using Time Capsule as a 'wireless' router and backup using Time Machine

I have a question about backup speed on my 1 TB Time Capsule. I purchased a Time Capsule about a year ago and have an imacg5 and two Mac laptops that I setup to use the wireless router capability and as the backup drive for all three computers.
I was experiencing a problem in that the backups from the imacg5 were never completing even though the Time Machine window said it was only backing up several MBs. In order to 'fix' the problem I finally 'erased' all of the backup files on the Time Capsule using Airport Utility. I had also run Disk Utility on all of the drives to verify and fix any problems.
When I initialized the wireless connections and initiated backups I connected to the imacg5 to the Time Capsule with an ethernet connection as well as via Airport and began 'backing up' my laptops, then started by backing up individually, various disks on my imacg5.
The laptops have rather small disks and backed up rather quickly. The imacg5 has hundreds of GB of data spread across several disks. I had decided to 'backup' the disks individually in case that had been the cause of my original problem.
My systems disk, Macintosh HD, backed up about 110 GB at the rate of 8 GBs per hour. I was encouraged.
My next 'data' disk, LaCie 320 #1, backed up about 209 GB at the rate of 2 GBs per hour. I was confused. This 'backup' took several days to complete. Once it completed, Time Machine has run about every hour as expected and completes the backup in about 3 minutes.
I still have two more disks on the imacg5 to backup. Does anyone have any idea what rate I should expect or should I just add the drives and let it take its course?

When connected via ethernet I turn off the airport connection on the computer. I found that frequently my mom's macbook pro would choose the wireless connection to her Time Capsule rather than the ehternet connection to do the back up. This was slower than via the ethernet.

Setting up time capsule with existing wireless router and another time capsule

I just bought my first mac (MBP) and a time capsule. We already have a wireless router, and my brother has an imac and his time capsule connected to it. The apple support people said that i couldn't use my new time capsule as a backup for my files because it would have to be in bridge mode and that would cause all sorts of problems and the backup would probably fail. That I would have to use my brother's time capsule to back up my files.
Is this true?? I find it hard to believe this issue hasn;t come up before.

Would I need to connect my time capsule directly to the router for first time set up?
If so, would I have to keep it connected to the router all the time after the first time set up, or can I keep it in another room?
Our wireless network was created back when we were a Windows household, so we still control it using Network Magic on an old laptop.
I unlocked the network (using Network Magic) when I tried to set up the Time Capsule (wirelessly, and before calling Apple), and after entering the network password my macbook recognized the TC and I got the good little green light on the TC. As soon as I locked up the network, I got the flashing amber light on the TC and airport utility couldn't find it anymore (using Airport utility version 6.1)... I unlocked the network again, the light turned green. I locked it back up, the light started flashing amber again...

Time capsule with Belkin wireless router

I have recently bought a Time Capsule (1TB) and have it set up with my existing Belkin router. This is a F5D9630-4 model which is only G+ MIMO so I've disabled the wireless capability on that and use the TC for wireless. At the moment the TC is in bridge mode allowing the Belkin to handle the DCHP stuff. Everything seems to work fine - I have a PC laptop and iPhone as well as the Mac and all communicate and connect to the internet with no problems.
However, I've just signed up for a MobileMe trial and hoped to try Back to My Mac. Unfortunately, I get a message saying it won't work because "Back to My Mac requires a router that supports NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) in order to share services." What's strange is that both are enabled on my Belkin. Should I disable them and set up NAT on the TC or am I missing something else? Should it be the Belkin that is in bridge mode and the TC that handles the DCHP?
Anyone got any other ideas? I find it all very confusing having the two devices - if only apple did a TC with built in modem!

I have a similar set up and it works fine. Make sure your router is up to date and reboot it after enabling the UPNP option. I do get the green light at home with the similar setup.
At work, with the same exact setup, I don't get the green light, only the yellow one like you do. It does work anyway... so have you actually tried it from outside your network?

Using Time Capsule with Rogers Wireless Rocket Hub

Hello, I've moved to a rural area where the only internet service available is a high speed wireless (I'm using a Rogers Rocket hub). Previously I used my Time capsule for router/back ups but I now must use the router funtionality of the hub. Is there a way to still use the TC for daily backups (by wireless or Ethernet cable if necessary)? If it can be done, does backup traffic locally count towards my monthly bandwidth limit?

Does the rocket hub have ethernet port.. if it does then life is easy.. ?? If it doesn't then life just became very hard. The TC is really designed around using internet by ethernet connection.. and nothing else.
Just so you do know, it is possible to join a TC to a wireless network.. and still do backups to it.. but the speed will be super slow.. and will overload your wireless network for as long as backups are going.

Backup traffic is still local LAN and does not count to your ISP usage.
The best way to do this is with ethernet to the client computer, if you cannot use ethernet to the main router.
Are you using a desktop or a laptop? Desktop is no problem.. but I would also have to add, that backups can be done to a USB drive that is faster and more reliable than using TC.
If you want to use laptop.. you have some nasty choices.
Slow backup with the TC connected by wireless to the main router.
Do backups and do internet as separate tasks.. swap over each night say to do a backup.
Or buy a USB wireless stick for your laptop.. these can be very small an unobtrusive now.. with a second wireless client in the computer you can do both internet and backup at the same time over different networks. If you go for this idea, tell me and I can give more instructions for the setup.

How do I use my Time Capsule as a router?
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your modem/router to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
Open AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup to configure the Time Capsule to "create a wireless network". Select the "Bridge Mode" option when it appears during the setup. (AirPort Utility will normally do this for you)

We prefer not to guess at things, but since we do not know the make and model number of your modem/router, and this is an Apple support area, we have little choice.
In general, you would enter the default IP address of the device into your browser to bring up the configuration pages (check your documentatio on the modem/router for this information, or it may be on the back or bottom of the device. An example of a default IP address is something like 192.168.1.254
There will be a wireless settings page that will allow you turn off the wireless function of the device.
If you acquired the modem/router from your service provider, they should be able to tell you how to do this as well, or if you check the manufacturer's website, they will likely have a support area for questions like this.

You will need to log on to the Time Capsule wireless network from each device and enter the password to connect. Most computers will "remember" the setting so that you do not have to enter the password each time that you connect.

I am trying to set up my TC with a Verizon Wiresless Router. I wish to use the TC's wiresless signal and shut off the Verizon signal (can do). I plugged the TC via ethernet, into port 2 on the verizon router and in the WAN connection on the TC. I am getting a blinking amber light. No idea where to go, I cannot access the TC via my iMac and the ethernet port on the iMac doesn't work (broken since new!) Help much appreciated. Bridge the TC..
I am assuming this is cable internet.. not wireless.
Just leave the Verizon doing what it is doing.. with the TC bridged you just plug it into the modem with ethernet.
To bridge the TC go to dhcp and NAT page for v6 utility.. or Internet tab for v5 utility and pick the connection sharing off bridge mode.

Just want to use Time Capsule as a wireless hard drive?

I thought I was computer savvy until now.
I just want to use Time Capsule as a wireless hard drive. I do not want to connect my Internet to it whatsoever. I realize this would involve disconnecting from Time Capsule and reconnecting to my Internet every time.
The settings for Time Capsule are just mind-boggling.
Is there any easy way to set it up as a password-protected wireless hard drive?
I am so lost with all the settings.

First, you don't need to use Time Capsule with Time Machine. It can be used as a manual file storage or file exchange drive.
Where do you have the Ethernet cable placed on the Time Capsule. Is it the WAN port or one of the network ports?
If you are attempting to set-up the Time Capsule as your wireless router, it will need to be connected to the wired modem from your service provider through the WAN port for configuration. The Time capsule should then appear as a configurable Airport device.
To start, turn off your cable or DSL modem and the Time Capsule. Turn them both back on with the Time capsule connected to the wired modem via of the WAN port so the modem can grab the TC's MAC address.

Problems using time capsule to extend wireless network

For some months I had to move to Germany for work (I'm from Italy, sorry for my English).
I am sharing internet with some other people, the wi-fi router is in their apartment, so basically I don't have access.
As the signal is strong enough only in one room I would like to use my time capsule to extend it also in the other rooms.
But when I try to extend it, my macbook pro connects to the network I would like to extend and the time capsule is not seen anymore.
To see the time capsule again in the airport utility i have to reset it to factory default.
Do you have any idea?
The wireless network is WPA2 protected, the provider is the German "Unity Media".

Apple's "extend" feature will only work if the Time Capsule is "extending" the wireless signal from another Apple wireless router. In other words, the "extend" feature is not compatible with wireless routers from other manufacturers.
You will need to connect the Time Capsule to the wireless router using a wired Ethernet connection. Connect from one of the LAN <-> ports on the wireless router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule. Then, you can configure the Time Capsule to provide a separate wireless network for your use.
