Using TOAD from hom PC
I know I can download TOAD for free and access my work intranet from home. I was told that I need SQL*Net desktop and can't seem to figure out how to download it from the Oracle website. I am not a technical person, but use TOAD at work all the time to verify data in the Oracle eBusiness apps. I would like to do this from home as well. Can someone tell me how to get whatever I need on my home PC (Windows XP) in order to be able to use TOAD? Thank you.
Kamal: Thank you very much, again! When I installed the first time I did not do a complete install, thinking I would not need everything. I could not find the "Net Configuration Assistant", so I uninstalled and did a reinstall of all the features. I now have the Net Configuration Assistant!
But, of course, I haven't a clue how to use it. It gives me 4 options: Listener Config, Naming Methods Config, Local Net Service Name Config, and Directory Usage Config. I am going to assume that "Local Net Service Name Config" is what to use. Is that correct?
My list of TNSNames is huge, and with entries like this: xxxdemo =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxxxxx)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = xxxxxx))
How do I get all of these entries in? Or, do I just pick the ones I want (I can recognize my test database--the only one I really care about for now)? Or, is there some way to add the whole list at once?

I don't know if your original request can be done but if it could you would be reliant on a wi-fi connection.

Remote connection to a database using TOAD, but without Oracle db on PC
I want to connect to a remote database using TOAD from my PC but without having to install Oracle database on my PC.
Is it possible?
If yes, where do I enter the database IP address & port number?
I am using TOAD Freeware version 8.5.0.50g
(I want to achieve the exact thing with TOAD as it can be done with "OraCmd" program.)How did you create your tns entry? Manually or via netca?
If netca is not used, I would recommend to delete the old tns entry from tnsnames.ora file manually and add the same entry back via netca utility.
PartA.
1) Make sure listener is up (for example on the server 192.168.0.33 you are trying to connect) before you start netca. Most probably it is on 1521 port unless you changed it.
Assuming your server on *NIX:
$ ps -ef |grep lsnr
the above command will give you all the listeners which are up and running.
If listener is not up, bring it up.
$ lsnrctl start listener
the above command will start listener called "LISTENER" on default port 1521. Ignore this if the listener is already up.
PartB
Assuming your client machine is on Windows,
1) start --> run --> cmd --> netca
2) You will see "Oracle Net Configuaration Assistant: Welcome" window. --> next
3) Pick the 3rd radio button "Local Net Service Name Configuartion" --> next
4) Pick the "ADD" button. --> next
5) Provide the service name. (It is usually database name). Assuming my database name is FCMAT, I will give FCMAT --> next
6) Pick "TCP" --> next
6) Instead of the hostname, add the ip address of the host (for example 192.168.0.33 and
"Use the standard port of 1521"--> next
7) "Yes, perform a test" (this is why you have to have the listener up to test it) -->next
8) It will fail as it doesn't have any password. Click on "Change Login" and provide the SYSTEM password and click "OK". If listener is up on the server and password is right and there are no connectivity issues going on, test will SUCCEED. --> next
9) Here you will provide Net Service Name. You can give whatever you like to give here but usually giving instance name will help. AGain, I will give FCMAT. -->
10) Click "NO" to configure another net service name. --> next
11) click "Finish"
The above steps will create a tnsnames.ora entry similar to this.

Part3
1) start your sqlplus utility
2) provide username system
3) provide password
4) provide FCMAT in host string.
and you should be able to connect via sqlplus and TOAD.
If you are still getting the error, please provide us the exact error.

Can only send e-mail from home wi-fi
I have three e-mail addresses that I use on the iPhone however for one of them I can only send e-mail when I am at home using my wi-fi. If I am anywhere else using wi-fi or 3G I get a sender address was invalid message.
Any suggestions?Many ISPs only allow access to their smtp servers (the server that sends mail, which is different that the one for receiving mail) over their own network. Others require different settings when connecting from outside (which you're doing when you're on 3G/EDGE). Another option is to use AT&T's outgoing mail server to send. You can enable that in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > tap account > Outgoing Mail Server/SMTP > set AT&T SMTP server to ON. That way, the AT&T server will be used away from home (as long as you're connected to 3G/EDGE/GPRS - if you're connected to another Wi-Fi network it won't work) and your ISPs server will be used at home.

I've just started using server from home. It works fine at the office. It works fine at home too except that I cannot analyse. When I attempt to do so the drop down box freezes and the program is unresponsive - even if working on just a single clip. I cannot force quit and always have to hard reboot.
Are you doing it from list view of the assets? Don't Do That.
Only analyze from the icon view or the info window. -

If you're trying to connect to a Bonjour server on the remote network, that won't work over a layer 3 VPN. Use something like Hamachi or one of the SSH-tunnelling Bonjour proxy apps for that. -
Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all. Is the setting I need to change in Outlook or on the iPhone or is it somewhere else? I used to have this setting but transferring Outlook to a new laptop somehow turned it off.
No. You really can't do that. Not easily at any rate. You would have to set them both up to use POP3, but even then there is no way to guarantee that the phone won't poll the server prior to your computer doing so, pulling down the message from the server.

Can I use iTunes Match while I'm away from Home, and my family still use Home Sharing via Apple TV?
I would like to be able to use my iTunes Match account as I am frequently away from home.
However, my family would also like to be able to use Home Sharing to listen to music, watch movies stored on the family iMac, using the Apple TV.
At the moment, iTunes Match & Apple Store uses a different Apple ID to Home Sharing. I don't want the kids to be able to download movies etc on the Apple TV.
Is there a way that I can achieve both at the same time?Yes, iTunes Match alleviates this situation. As long as iTunes on both of your computers is using the same Apple ID, you can add songs to either one, and once they have uploaded to iCloud, they will be available on any of your iDevices AND in iTunes on the other computer.

Can I use iCloud away from home on my iPhone5s?
I thought that it worked that way, but I seem to be mistaken. I can use it when on the same block as my home, but not otherwise. When I am near home, it only allows me to play a few songs from a couple of artists. Is it supposed to work that way and if not, how do I correct it? I don't know if it affects anything, but I have Verizon and the standard 5GB cloud plan (but am willing to upgrade if it will help my listening coverage). I've checked several similar questions but have yet to find anything that works. This is a big annoyance for me because I wanted to listen to my songs away from home, but my 16GB phone won't hold all 1400 songs (which I'm told is another problem all it's own, but that's another question entirely).
I've made calls from areas where I can't listen. Is there some kind of setting I've effed up?

I just purchased the airport Express to use in hotels while traveling to create a wireless network from the hotels wired dsl. A friend said to set up the network from home prior to traveling. How do I set this up? Thanks.
In addition to RyanJC's comments, the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can store up to five different http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108081 configuration profiles. You will need to use the AirPort Utility to create & save these profiles.
To create a new profile:
Open AirPort Utility, select your AX from the list, and then, click "Manual Setup."
From the AirPort Utility menu, select "Base Station," and then "Manage Profiles."
Click "+" to create a new profile; give it a name, and then, click OK.
Set options, such as network name, passwords, Internet connection method, etc.
When done setting the options, click Update.
To switch profiles:
Open the AirPort Utility, select your AX from the list, and then, click "Manual Setup."
From the AirPort Utility menu, select "Base Station," and then "Manage Profiles."
Click on the desired profile, and then, click OK to apply the new profile and restart the AX.
Just remember to switch to the desired configuration profile before removing power from the AX. -
Java has updated again today,
i use a java plug in to run my virtual software to access my work from home,
today i have an error message saying that security will not allow access to my website
i use to log in to work from, this is a JREdetection error,
my system runs off java and citrix, i tried chrome,firefox and safari - same issue, if my system cannot detect java it wont run, it runs on plug ins.

Ive just tried to install iOS 6 using wirless. Once completed it asks me to plug it into itunes.
I'm away from home at the moment so i dont have access to itunes. is there anything i can do ? the phone will not do anything !!
is there a way to get passed this or revert back ?I have the same problem and we can't simply just restore from the backup. It says that I have to set up my iPad through restoring. So I tried restoring it in iTunes but it won't restore until I have to turn off this **** "Find My iPad" crap but I couldn't because the set up's not complete and it won't let me go to my settings unless I set it up. So basically it's asking me to go to my settings but before I could go to it I have to restore, and in order to restore I have to go to settings. Get where I'm at?
