Using Trillian, Stylus in Logic Express

Hello,
Logic newbie here. How do I find Trillian and Stylus in Logic. I see all the Logic and Garageband sounds in the "library", but no Spectrasonics. I can use both Trillian and Stylus RMX in Garageband with no issues, so I assume my plugins are where they're supposed to be on my Mac. Any help will be appreciated.

If the plugins are loaded and verified in AU Manager then they will definitely be available in Logic as long as in the AU Manager the plugins checkbox is ticked.
I need to check again if we are looking at the same way to choose an Instrument in Logic. If you already do it this way sorry for repeating myself.
Close the Library and Media tab.
Click and hold on the Software Instrument channel strips Input slot. A drop down list appears.
Below the "Garagebnd Instruments" is -
AU Generators
AU Instruments
AU Midi control effects
In Au Instruments there is where Specraonsics : Stylus RMX and Trilian will be.

The Use Of SPDIF In Logic Express 7?

Hey all,does anyone know if the use of spdif in logic express 7 is possible? i have a motu 2408II and it has spdif in-out but im not sure if lofig supports it or not.i dont see it in the channel input area.

I understand your reply. I think it is strange it is possible to get most presets already enabled when you use that Channel Strip 'insert' on the left, but not the "bus" settings. These bus settings do make the difference.
It is ok for me to do it manually. But I'm still curious wheter it is possible to do this automatically or not. It depens on some sounds, but a very good comparision is the Orchestra Fugue Organ from the Symphonic Orchestra Jampack. This sounds far better on Garageband compared to the default settings in Logic Express. I think most people will agree with me here.
Knows someone a trick to get 100% the same settings like in GB just by choosing this sound? Or do I indeed have to set up that manually (or is there another trick to make this an automatic process)
Another solution would still be starting my arrangment in GB...

Actually I have found a way for at least the instrument plug ins to be accessed.
I was able to set up an instance of Sculpture in MS2 and record it in LE using Soundflower.
Route the audio from MainStage to Logic and record onto an audio track in Logic as follows:
If not already installed, get SoundFlower. After installing it.
A) Setup the sound you want in MS2 and audio output to Soundflower (remember to Apply Changes or it does not hold).
B) In Logic Express set the audio input to Soundflower and create a new audio track for recording. Important: set Soundflower's audio output to however you listen to your audio or you won't hear anything.
C) Press RECORD and start playing, LE captures Mainstage's sound.
I have not tried to wire LE's output to MS2 to take advantage of Space Designer. but since this functions, I'm not sure why that couldn't work as well. It is still flipping though a few screens though...might just be easier to get Logic Pro from the App store....

Can I use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6

Is it possible to use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6.? Are there any limitations to not having Logic Pro 9. I'm very happy with LE9.1.6. as it meets all my needs (perhaps with the exception of not having Space Designer) but if I need to upgrade to get the most out of MainStage 2 then I will.

Using LP9 new to Logic Express diff's please?

Hi all.
I'm using logic pro 9, my brother in laws son is picking up logic express with his new lap top. Would any one know the differences (or limitations) between express and pro 9?

Hi,
the main differences are that LP9 has surround sound and some extra plugins like the the e-piano and SpaceDesigner. Apart from that, they are very similar.

Using isight microphone with logic express 7.0? Can this be done?

Hey I'm not new to Logic, but I AM new to using this macbook pro. I can't seem to use coreaudio as my input, and choose the built-in mic as my input source. I have gone to system preferences > sound > input > built in mic and it is selected. Coreaudio is selected as my driver in Logic. Please help, or just tell me "you can't do that."

Try making a aggregate device that contains your isight in "Audio MIDI setup" and go from there. I did this briefly a few weeks ago just to see if it could be done and it worked.

Using Midi Mic in logic express

I recently bought a midi microphone and when I go to record, I cannot hear the instrumentals through the headphone. it is only letting me use one device at a time. When I choose to hear the music, I cannot record and the other way around. Someone please give me a solution. thankyou

You have to create an aggregate device:
1. launch Audio Midi Setup;
2. select the Audio pane and under the menu Audio choose Create Aggregate Device;
3. in the new window type a name for your device;
4. add (with the + button) the USB mic and activate Input;
5. add internal audio and activate Input and Output;
6. open Logic and, in the Audio preferences, choose the new created device;
7. choose the right inputs and outputs.

Please help with Logic Express 7 and using DFH plugin!

Hey guys, I'm really in a tight spot here as I have no idea how to get my setup working properly. I recently bought an entirely new Imac, Logic Express 7, and a drum plugin called Drumkit From **** Superior (VSTi I believe is the type of plugin they call it). It is supposed to be compatable but I see no way to get it to show up as a plugin. I tried some other programs and it shows up as a plugin and I'm able to get into the interface, but I can't in LE7.
It is supposed to be compatable as a "rewire" plugin or something like that, but I'm not too sure how to approach that differently, both manuals are very vague.
Basically, I'm wondering:
1. How would I go about getting Drumkit From **** Superior to show up as a "plugin" (and what it would be under) if I have to use it a "rewire"?
2. If I could get it running as a plugin, how would I go about programming a drum part using that "drumkit" in Logic Express?

It's a tough one man, I'm actually wanting to go for EZdrummer which I think comes under the same umbrealla as DFH, the patch will come to let you upgrade to intel hopefully by September so hold onto that plug in as I think it'll be worth it in the long run. In the mean time do you have any other options to make beats?
I use Reason 3.0, I sequence my beats using Reason Drum Kits 2.0 and export them as WAV or AIFF files into Logic, do you have anything similar that you can do? write you beats else where and import into Logic?

Anyone using a Behringer BCF2000 w/ Logic Express??

I'd sure like to get my hands on a decent control unit and the Behringer BCF2000 fits the bill and the budget. I was curious if anyone here is using this unit and could tell me how easy it is to setup in Logic.

I use the BCF2000 with Logic Express, and it works perfectly. Fortunately, since the firmware update (available on the Behringer homepage), the BCF2000 supports emulation of Logic Control, meaning you get to save yourself a lot of hassle assigning the individual knobs. Personally, I'd recommend it, since it seems to be the only control surface that offers nice features for reasonable pricing. My only problem is that the faders aren't touch-sensitive, meaning you sometimes have to fight with them if you've got automation data. Apart from that, great piece of equipment to have.

How to do multi-instrument with EXS instrument in Logic Express

Hello Logic Express Users,
I wonder if someone can help me. I can set up multi-instruments with Battery 2, and Kontakt 2, but I am battling to set up a multi-instrument when I am using the EXS with Logic Express. How do I assign the outputs to different outputs so that I can hear different instruments through different aux channels.
Or is it only possible with the EXS editor that comes with Logic Pro? Because if it is then it is weird why they make the EXS with Logic express a multi-instrument.

If you want to save an instrument patch together with plugins and so on, you should save it as a channel strip.
Use the channel strip menu at the top of the channel object. There is a defined directory for user channel strips, but you can create folders within it and organise your channel strip settings as you like.
These settings will show up in the channel strip menu, and the media browser too.

Logic Express and Presonus Firepod

I am trying to record live sound through a condenser mic running into Presonus Firepod. I am trying to use this successfully with Logic Express, but have thus far been frustrated. I have followed the suggested steps of adjusting Logic's preferences so that it recognizes and uses the Firepod, so that is not the issue. I simply cannot seem to connect any tracks to the Firepod. I know the mic and Firepod are working, because I can hear sound through my headphones, which are running through the Firepod.
Any help offered would be appreciated. If I remember correctly from other programs, I need to do something involving assigning a 'bus' to the track.

First of all check into Audio MIDI Setup (it's in the Applications/Utilities folder) if the Presonus is there and if all the channels are "visible".
After that delete Logic preferences (YourHomeDir/Library/Preferences/Logic) and launch Logic again.
Open the Audio Preferences and check if the Presonus is selected otherwise do it.
Create and audio track and in the channel strip (the first at the left) choose the input channel.
That's all.

Wrong logical expression

The following code is wrong and I want to know if it's possible to correct it without using another variable:
IF var1 < ( sy-datum + 15 ).
var2 = 1.
ELSEIF var1 > ( sy-datum + 15 ) AND var1 < ( sy-datum + 30 ).
var2 = 2.
ENDIF.
The ABAP syntax checking doesn't allow the logical expression with the "+"... Is not possible or simply I don't know how to do that?
I know that I can do something like that:
var3 = sy-datum + 15.
But I don't want that solution if it's possible

You have to store Sy-datum + 15 in a different variable.
and then use it in the logical expression.
For older version of SAP this is the only option. I thing the newest version of netweaver allows you to do what you want to do

Is Logic Express worth it???

I am building a quality (humble) recording studio off of an iMac G5; I will be using the M-Audio FireWire 1814 as my audio interface and Pro Tools M-Powered as my main recording application; however, I have learned that there can be some advantages to having more than 1 audio/midi sequencer on a machine.
I am about to order the iMac G5 and my question is:
-- is it worth it to pay the extra $200-300 to have logic express installed when I will be using ProTools?
-- are Logic Express's MIDI capabilities strong enough to use over Pro Tools?
-- what are the main differences between logic express and logic pro (other than $700, or should I wait to invest in that also)?
-- in practice, when would Logic Express be helpful when working with ProTools?
I am new to recording with a MAC; Logic Express seems like it could be helpful, but I'm just worried that I'd be spending $300 on something I'd already have with ProTools.

Hi Nicholas,
The general consensus is that logic is far easier to use than PT when you have any decent amount of midi to deal with.
If you are going to use plenty of virtual instruments, then I think it will be worthwhile for you to have logic.
As for the pro version, you get a whole bunch of virtual instruments bundled with it, plus the ability to use more than 12 inputs, and a bunch of extra editing options and plugins etc. etc.
If you goto www.apple.com/logicexpress you should find a link to a comparison list between express and pro.
Having said all that, PT is a great programme (even though i prefer logic) and you may find that the best course of action is to get used to working with what you have before lashing out on more software.

Region Flex problems Logic Express 9

Hello
I have a really annoying problem using Flex Time in Logic Express 9.
Whenever I try to extend a region the length automatically jumps by an entire bar longer. I have switched Snap to Ticks so it's not that (once it has leapt a whole bar it resizes fine).
It is infuriating! I only want to stretch the audio a couple of ticks as I am trying to match an acapella to a beat.
Please help before I throw my laptop out of a window!!

I know that Express ships with fewer plugins and presets and channel strips, etc than Pro does. But many of the plugins are available in STP. Is there any way to access them in Logic or are they hidden to prevent their being used with other programs?

Unfortunately, you can't use STP plugins in Logic Express.
