Using TV as display
I have a Mac Mini connected to my television and using it as a media centre. I am running Windows 7 via Boot Camp. In Windows I am able to use a screen resolution of 1080p but enlarge everything 150%. This enables me to view my blu-ray rips in their full 1080p glory but still allow me to read menus, web pages etc. from my sofa.
Does such a facility exist in OSX? At the moment I having to use a screen resolution of 720p as a compromise.
I have this same problem. I'm amazed it hasn't (apparently) occurred to anyone at Apple that people who are using their Minis for the center of a media center tend to sit further than 4 feet away from their 32+ inch flat screens.
I've made everything larger that can be made larger, but menus and web pages are a huge problem (or maybe a small problem?). Zooming is not an answer either. I was also floored that plain old "enlargement" is not allowed through the "accessibility" settings.
As far as I'm concerned, the second you choose "1080p" as your screen resolution everything should be enlarged 150% by default. Barring that, the choice to do it one's self should be present in the OS.
I obviously have no answer but figured that the same question asked again by another person might trigger some kind of response from somebody.

Try connecting the Minidvi to the VGA and connect it all together, first try turning ing on the MBP, then connecting dvi to the the projector. Make sure your projector input is set for VGA. If noo joy invert the affored mentioned proceedure. You should see your image if not, try going to system preferences>displays, click display. Try readjusting the resolutions in display. reboot monitor.

How can I use an external display with my MBP lid closed and disconnected to power?
I know that I can use an external display when my MBP lid is closed and it is connected to power. I was wondering why it does not work when the power cable is removed.
I only use an external display when I am at home so my MBP acts like a Mac Pro or Mac Mini in that way, but it is not good to leave the battery charging constantly on a MBP so I want to disconnect the power and use external display and have the lid closed. Is this possible or do I have to leave my lid open when running on battery power?I'm plugged into my wall socket at least 90% of the time - probably more. I always make sure that I take my MBP off mains about once every two weeks and let it run down to about 30-40% and then plug it back up. This keeps the ions flowing and the battery healthy. My MBP will be one year old on March 20, 2013, and my battery health is still at 99%. I run in clamshell mode most of the time now - since I bought a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. Only occasionally am I off mains - and then because I'm exercising my battery, usually.
Don't worry about running of mains most of the time - just be sure and unplug about once every two weeks (or twice a month) and let your battery dip to the 30-40% mark and you'll be fine.

It sounds like you have your display fields in a container view, and
that container view is inside of a view bean. I haven't tested whether
the fireChildDisplayEvents has a "deep" effect on its container view
children. Meaning that you may have to set fireChildDisplayEvents="true"
for the <jato:containerView> tag instead. If all else fails and you need
to just get it working, you can set the fireDisplayEvents="true" for
each display field tag separately.

Oops. Sorry about that, Craig. I didn't realize I might leave that impression.
I'm sure the tiled
views work since you have so many examples of these and it's a relatively
simple concept, isn't it?
Not to mention a necessary one. I didn't have time to debug my code and find
out what I was doing
wrong where the tiled views are concerned. I decide to just try to implement
tiled views later and
just stick with one of everything for now and get that working.
Yes, I have reviewed your comments and am taking them into consideration. I am
able to save and
retrieve values with my model at this point.

He may also be binding the models, howerver, he needs to change the way
the value appears before it is displayed which is why you would use the
display events.
Your null value issue is a completely different issue and has nothing to
do with it being a tiled view. I don't want anyone getting the idea
that the tiledView binding is broken. It does work. You issue should
have something to do with the inconsistent way in which you are getting
your model. At least from what I could tell in your source code that you
sent me.
Have you reviewed my comments I sent to you in your source code?

Help using a mini display port to HDMI cable with MacBook Air and TV
Hi, Apple gurus. I need help setting up my MacBook Air to my Vizio TV using a mini display port to HDMI cable that I just purchased on Amazon.
And here's info about my MacBook Air:
In the Amazon reviews, someone posted the following how-tos, which aren't working for me:
1. Plug in both ends, mini display port on your macbook and the HDMI on any available port on your LCD.
2. Go to upper left Apple menu and scroll down to system preference. Or use your FINDER from the dock, go to applications, then system preference.
3. Click on Displays
4. Click on DETECT DISPLAY
5. A similar screen pops up with name of your LCD, mine says SONY LCD, click on ARRANGEMENT
6. Click the box that says MIRROR DISPLAYS.
7. Go back into system preferences and go to SOUNDS which is located under HARDWARE.
8. Click on OUTPUT, then select HDMI, which should be listed next to your LCD name.
I ran into trouble at step #4. My MacBook Air doesn't list the option of "detecting display." I do, however, have the box mentioned in step #6, "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."
Regarding step #8, HDMI didn't appear in the list — I only see "internal speakers."
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, did I buy the wrong cable?

When I connect my Macbook Air to my TV via the thunderbolt outlet and using a Mini Display Port/HDMl adaptor, the only image that appears on the TV screen is that of my Air background. There is obviously a signal getting through to the TV, but it is not sending images of anything else, and am unable to watch video through my Air. Any advise/suggestions?
This is called "extended desktop mode". It's an extension of the desktop off to the right (by default) of your MBair screen. Grab an app and drag it off the right side of your MBair screen and it will appear on the TV.
To mirror your MBair screen on the TV you can press Command F1. This will toogle between mirror and extended desktop.
You can find all the settings in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.

Question when using the Mini Display Port.

I just got my 27" Imac, and I was wondering what is the hotkey to switch between the mini display port and the normal desktop?
Am using a Mini Display to DVI adapter and I can't figure out how to switch between the video sources. Am trying to run my Ps3 off from my mac, any help on what the hotkey is would be wonderful.
I read some place that command+F2 is the hotkey used to switch between the port, but maybe you have to assign the hotkeys?

You can only run your PS3 on the iMac's display if you have an adapter that turns the PS3's video signal into DisplayPort signaling. A mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter is the wrong adapter to use. That adapter works in only one direction, from a device with m-DP output to a device with DVI input.
If your PS3 has DVI output then you need an adapter to convert the DVI to HDMI. Then you need a converter to convert the HDMI to m-DP. They run US$149.00. The best resolution that you can expect is 720p.

The MacBook Air 11 inch late-2010 model does support 2560 x 1600 resolution on an external display. See this specifications article for reference -

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port. -
I'm trying to hook up my Macbook Pro to my TV. I'm using the 'mini-display port to female HDMI" adapter. all i can see is my desktop background. no folders or icons and when i play a movie it goes blank.
Drag applications from your main desktop off the right side of the screen and they will appear on the TV. This is the extended desktop mode.

im having trouble connecting my macbookpro to the tv. im using a mini display port to hdmi adapter, when i switch tv/video to hdmi on the tv nothing pops up, and i dont have the arrangement tap on the display settings, please help!
I've found that the order of operations, so-to-speak, can be important when hooking up mini display port to HDMI. I have the most success with the following operations in this order:
1) Plug HDMI cable into mini displayport adapter (the cable should not be plugged into either the TV or the computer at this point)
2) Plug the mini displayport end of your new super-cable to the computer.
3) Plug the HDMI end into your TV.
4) Switch inputs on your TV to the proper input.
5) If still nothing on the TV, try a different HDMI port on your TV.
