Using tv for monitor with Mac mini

Using my 46 inche sharp as my screen for Mac mini. But sitting on couch it is hard to see things on the screen. Is there a setting to change the size view?

Change to a different progressive (p) resolution on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.  The higher the (p) value the smaller the text.  Use the zoom functions on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access if you want to maintain the resolution and temporarily zoom on items to make them readable.

  • I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini

I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini, I am using a HDMI to VGA cable to connect them. But no signal on my Philips monitor.
My Mac mini is in a good condition, it can connect with my HDTV, the BENQ monitor at my office, but I can't make it connect with my Philips monitor.
    I dun know what happen.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

  • Posterized colors on two different monitors with Mac Mini, late 2014 model

Sometimes when I leave my Mac for a while (like an hour or more), I come back to a black monitor, then click the trackpad to wake it up (I assume it is "sleeping" but I don't see a way to make the monitor sleep), I am faced with posterization of the colors and crumbly text, like this:
I can "fix" it by going into System Preferences > Display and change the rotation to 90 or 180 or something. The screen clears up right away. Then I revert to the normal rotation. This is an ok workaround but it is not convenient. I never had this problem with my MacBook.
I first saw this issue with my late 2014 Mac Mini that I got a couple months ago, and it has happened with both monitors I have tried: an old Benq monitor attached with DVI (DVI to Thunderbolt adapter) and a new Thunderbolt Display. The Benq was connected using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I no longer have this monitor. The Thunderbolt Display is attached directly to the Mini using the Y cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mini.
Yosemite version is 10.10.2. It doesn't happen if I wake the Mac while it's showing the screen saver.
The only things I have checked under Energy saver is "Wake for network access" and "Enable Power Nap". I don't have anything Scheduled, as I don't have a specific time of day I want it to turn on and off, but I would like the Mac to wake up right way and display correctly if I have to leave the Mac for a while during the day.
I've seen other similar threads, but so far all the suggestions I've seen talking about upgrading to 10.10.2 (which I have) or some sort of workaround involving sleep settings (which I can't quite understand). I'm going to call the Mac Store where I bought the Mini next week, or when I have some time, but I have a feeling they aren't going to be able to help me much. It seems like this is such a common problem with the new Mini's I might be stuck with it, unless someone has a better solution or workaround.

  • Using my old speakers with Mac Mini

I just bought a new Mac Mini less than a week ago because my HP finally kicked the bucket. I've wanted to try a Mac and chose the Mini because I could still use my other stuff (monitor, speakers, keyboard, etc.) that still work just fine.
The only problem I'm having is with my speakers. I plugged them in and noticed the sound seemed muffled. I checked the Audio app and realized my speakers were being recognized as headphones. When I unplugged those and put in the headphones it sounded great, but ever since I unplugged my headphones, I can't get the Audio app to recognize anything for what it is (except the Internal Speakers.) Now, when I plug in the headphones I either get Digital Out or nothing at all. When I plug in the speakers, I get either Headphones or nothing. I tried to follow the instructions for setting up my speakers using the Help feature but I just can't get it to work.
Am I missing something? Do I need to buy Apple speakers??
Please help! I miss my music!! ):

    Welcome to  Discussions!
    Are your speakers powered?
If they are not, they probably won't work very well with the mini.
To change the type of output from your mini, you need to open an application called Audio Midi Setup which can be found in Applications > Utilities. You can also use Spotlight to find it quickly, which is the search tool you see on the menu bar on the far right, represented by the magnifying glass. Click on that symbol and start typing 'audio midi setup' in the search field that opens up, and it should show the application near or at the top of the results.
Audio Midi Setup is fairly intuitive and self-explanatory.

  • Can't use my apple displays with Mac mini

    Hey everyone,
I've got a pretty strange problem, and I'm hoping you guys know of a solution to this.
Thing is, I can't use any apple displays with my Mac mini box. Whenever I try to do so I can see that the monitors are turned on, but the screen is completely black (doesn't flicker or anything like that). I know for a fact that both of the apple monitors I tried work.
However, monitors from other manufacturers work just fine! This has got me baffled, what is it about apple monitors that's got my Mac so confused ?

It's possible the analog VGA is working on your mini whereas the DVI digital output is broken. They are two completely different interfaces that just happen to share a common connector on the mini.
Can you possibly get your hands on another, non-Apple monitor that has a DVI input? I would say if all three are not working (two Apple monitors and a third-party one), then definitely something is up with the mini's DVI output.

  • Does HP W2207h monitor with Mac mini 2011?

You can use HDMI cable with HP w2207h directly,No need for other cable. but please follow these step.
1.Find LCD tv to set up first step.
2.Connect HDMI cable to LCD TV(i use Samsung) and adjust to HDMI source.
    3.Open Mac mini.
    4.Open system preference.
5.Click "display"  you will see that the primary setting is :1680*1050  that  HP monitor did not support.
6.Unplug HDMI cable from LCDtv (no need to shut down) and plug into HP w2207h.
7.the screen still blinking, it is ok.
8.On HP monitor,  Push down button  "Select" and "+"  and the same time and hold it.
9.Use mouse or down button on keyboard to choose screen resolution to be "1600*900"
    10. Then the screen will not blinking and you can use your lovely HP w2207h
if you want a high resolution on screen.
1.Buy new LED monitor that support 1680*1050  resolution.
2.Buy Mini displayport to DVI for digital signal   Mini>DVI>HDMI.

  • Sony monitor with mac mini 1.25 - no video signaal

This is really strange. I have an old 15 inch flat panel Sony Monitor SDM-M51D
    that I know works. I have a 1.25 Mac Mini that I know works, I have a
dvi -Vga adapter that came with the mac mini. It works.
But the sony says "no signal" on this computer only.
    Ideas???
    Jim

Some of the old PPC minis had issues with some old monitors. Something to do with not enough voltage on the output, if I recall correctly. I don't know if there is any cheap fix, other than using a different monitor. You might try searching this forum and googling for your monitor model. There are several lists of monitors reported to work (or not) with the mini.
You might do better with the Digital input on this monitor, especially if you can borrow a DVI cable, or buy from a store with a good return policy.
Here is one example of a monitor list for the Mini -- DVI-connected:

  • Dual Samsung 2343bwx Monitors with Mac Mini

I am looking to purchase the new Mac Mini Server for my lab, but have a question. I currently have dual Samsung 2343bwx monitors attached to a Windows 2008 server (please no snickers, I am replacing it with a Mac!) using UltraMon to span the desktop across both monitors. My question is can the Mini support both monitors at 2048 x 1152, and give me the same functionality I have now?
If it does support it can you tell me what connectors your are using?

Should work ok. The 2048x1152 16:9 aspect ratio on the 2343BWX is only slightly more pixels than 1920x1200.
    See this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9855163&#9855163
And spanning shouldn't be a problem, either.

  • Resolution of Samsung T220 monitor with Mac Mini (or any Mac)

I'm looking at a Samsung T220 or T220HD paired with a Mac Mini, or more probably new Mac Mini to be announced in Jan, 2009. The maximum resolution for the T220 is 1680 x 1050. The Samsung manual states that the T220 usually supports all Macs, but to check the "Preset Timing Modes" to ensure Mac is supporte for this model.
When checking the T220 user manual, the "Preset Timing Modes" section indicates only the following resolutions when connecting to a Mac:
    MAC, 640 x 480
    MAC, 832 x 624
    MAC, 1152 x 870
Does this mean Mac owners can never get the maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution out of this and similar Samsung monitors, only 1152 x 870? If so, what's the point of investing in a good quality monitor that gives Macs only mediocre resolutions?
Any Mac owners getting 1680 x 1050 out of their Samsung T220 or T220HD?

    Hi there
I just got a new Mac Mini and a 32 inch Samsung LCD 450 series. I am not sure of max resolution but I know it's a 720p set. I have been impressed with the plug and play set up via a VGA cable. But, I can not seem to figure out how to get the max resolution set up either.
The Mac display preferences only give me choices for standard monitor sizes that are not proportional to the Samsung screen, I have tired both 800 x 600 and the 1024 x 768 I have mixed and matched this with changing the picture proportions on the TV (16:9 vs 4:3). Things either seem stretched or overly square.
Am I missing something here, Is there somewhere else I should be looking for settings to tweak?
Any help or steering toward other resources would be most welcome.
    Thanks, Josh

  • One monitor with mac mini and pc

i have a new mini and i want to use my dell flat panel with it. I assume all i need is a vga splitter. Does anyone have advice on this, such as one that works well? Any advice is appreciated.

I am using a Dell flat screen at work as well and it allows digital as well as analog input. In case your model is similar you might just connect the Mac with the digital in (providing a better image as well) and continue using the analog for your PC. Switching between the input devices works pretty easy as well with the "-" button on the panel...
unless Mac and PC have to share as well keyboard and mouse, then you need a KVM-Switch (Keyboard, Video, Mouse).

  • Using a refurbished iSight with Mac Mini - possible?

    Hello.
I just got my girlfriend a Mac Mini and, after seeing all the posts with the web cam incompatibilities with the Mac Mini, I wanted to see if purchasing an old refurbished iSight would work instead of buying an off-the-shelf Logitech web cam.
The main purpose to be using this web cam is to do video conferencing using iChat.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi.
The USB Video Class cameras have built-in support since 10.4.9.
Have a look at the Creative Live! Cam Optia AF, which works right-out-of-the box with iChat and Skype.
The Creative Live! Cam Optia Pro is a little less pricey, and should work as good as the AF.
There's another (cheaper) model, the Live! Cam Optia, but it hasn't got a built-in mic.
    Good Luck.

  • Anyone using this DVI  monitor with the mini  ViewEra V174SD-B Black 17" 8m

I contact Viewera support to ask if they had any information on whether this LCD is compatible with a first generation Mac Mini 1.42GHz computer. They said they only had information on users of Windows PC.
I really like this LCD but I don't want to go through the hassle of purchasing it only to have to ship it back.

  • Using a VGA monitor with Mac Pro: DVI to VGA adaptor cord & X1900 card

I will be purchasing the MacPro with the ATI Radeon X1900 XT. However, I want to continue using my dual Viewsonic CRT screens till the end of the year until I make the leap to a new LCD display. I know Apple sells a DVI to VGA connector and in fact I believe it to be included as an accessory.
    Here is my question:
The graphics card I am buying (the X1900) is designated as a DUAL LINK DVI. The Apple DVI to VGA adaptor cord has a DVI -I SINGLE LINK male connector. Will this DVI-I single link connector properly mate to the female dual link connector on the X1900 graphics card? If it will, I'm probably in business. If it won't, does anyone have an idea for a workaround?
    Many thanks, John

  • What software do I need to use an HP monitor with Mac comuter?

Hp monitor connected to Mac computer gives very poor display.  Does it need special software/driver?

    Ken, welcome to the forum.
You should have received a disc with the monitor.  On the disc there should be the driver for the Mac.  If not, check here for the driver.  Enter the model number of the monitor in the box where it asks for it.
