Using TV monitor

I have a MacBook, and I want to watch something on my computer up on my HDTV. What cables will I need? Thank you!

Hello, I have been following this exchange with interest.
I live six months of the year in Canada and six in Europe.
I want to watch my DVDs (purchased in Canada, hence Zone 1) when I am in Europe.
I was hoping to run the DVDs on my MacPro and view them on my European bought TV set (HDTV Samsung).
Do I need two cables as explained below (dvi to dvi, and dvi to HDMI) or can I use a minidisplay port to HDMI cable? Will there be a compatibility problem (running Zone 1 DVDs on a European (i.e. PAL system) TV?)
thank you!

  • Issues with using 3 monitors on 2 external gpu

    Hi,
I have some issues with configuring Xorg to use 3 monitors. I have 2 external graphic cards (same model, no SLI). Monitors connected to the first gpu are recognized ok but I can't configure my 3rd monitor conencted to the second gpu via HDMI nor DVI.
1st is recognized as DVI-I-1, 2nd is DP-1 in first card, 3rd monitor is in second card (bus 22:00.0) as DP-1-2 (also tried connecting as DVI-I-2). I can see them in Xorg log but I can't configure my 3rd monitor via kscreen nor xrandr. :-/

I have  a similar issue except with two ATI cards and four monitors.
I have a working xorg.conf that uses Xinerama and all 4 work but have been trying to get xrandr to work since xinerama is deprecated supposedly.
I would like to switch to xrandr but there is some kind of magic voodoo I have with my current xorg.conf that doesn't even work on an exact same machine and cards that I tried to setup for a co-worker.

  • Using 3 monitors on the HP 700-327c

    greetings,
We need to use 3 monitors on our HP 700-327c with Win 7,64 bit OS.  What do i need to do to make this happen.
    Thanks in advance,
    LCF

    From the specs:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04291966&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
    you have an integrated graphic.
Have you already tried to use both slots you have?
If you don't have high requirements for monitor settings you can try one of these for a third monitor:
    http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/100-U2-UV19-TR.pdf
    http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Universal-Multi-Display-Adapter-Black/dp/B002F9NSMQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1
They will use your current graphics device.
Else you can search for an additional graphics card which supports 3 monitors and doesn't need more than a 300W psu.
The integrated graphic will be disabled then, so you need three ports!

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • How can i use two monitors in my application?

    Hello,
    Background
I have a dual monitor card and two monitors which I want to use in my LabView application. The application gathers data from a complex sensor and calculates a number of results which need to be displayed graphically, this happens every 10 seconds or so. There is an awful lot of graphs which may be needed to be seen at some time but not routinely. The idea is that one monitor will display all the standard routinely displayed things and will not have any user input whilst the second monitor will display a tab control which has all the other graphs pickable.
    Question
What I want to know is how I can programmatically tell labVIEW to put one vi up in one monitor and another vi in the other. I would then have them both maximised (which I know how to do). I would rather have the monitors set up as individual and that way I could keep the windows control bar on one monitor only. Thus one monitor would be a true user interface and the other simply a display.
Basically how do I tell LabVIEW to use one monitor for a specific vi and not the other.
The card I have is a matrox p650. Any comments would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Kevin

    Hallo,
with new version of LV its more easy, but it also hasn't any troubles with LabVIEW 6.x or 7.x.
Especially with Matrox P650 you will get no any problems (we using
exactly this card together with G550 and our application supported
three monitors at the same time.).
I recommend to you following sequence:
    - After installing driver turn on option for supporting different
resoluton on different monitors. As result you will get two absolutely
    separate monitors.
    - In Windows define which one is primary and which one is secondary.
(On primary monitor located taskbar and all messages dialog boxes will
    appear.).
    - Arrange secondary monitor in display properties - where he located (left from primary, or right)
    - In your VI (which must appear on second monitor) use
FrontPanel.PanelBounds Property Node for positioning. You must set four
values for two corners. Easiest way to found right values is following:
read this property node in while loop and put indicator on front panel.
Then run VI, drag front panel onto second monitor and resize if
necessary, and then you will see right values for PanelBounds. You can
write this property node programmatically in run-time too.
    hope it help,
    good luck.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

    Hi,
Here is a good blog talking about using multiple monitors in Windows 7 ultimate and Windows Server 2008 R2,  please take a look if there are any restrict policy settings regarding the monitor numbers like: "Limit maximum number of monitors per session"

  • Installed Windows 8.1 with Bootcamp but cant use my monitor through VGA-MiniDisplayPort

I used Bootcamp to install Windows 8.1, but when I tried to use my monitor, that worked on the Windows 8.1 preview, no longer works. It's a VGA-MiniDisplayPort. I'm not willing to spend extra money until I need to.

Solved: I figured out the issue was I was using UEFI for the Windows 8.1. Now all I'm doing is attempting to install it normally and so far the monitor issue is fixed.

  • Can I add a second monitor to my MacBook Air notebook and use both monitors simultaneously?

Can I add a second monitor to my MacBook Air notebook and use both monitors simultaneously?  For example, have a spreadsheet open on the notebook monitor while the second monitor is displaying an architectural drawing?

MiniDisplay-to-? adapters ... ? replaced by VGA or DVI or HDMI
Best to use only 1 adapter to match the intended cable since mutliple-adapter setup (buy a VGA, then add VGA-DVI adapter) tendsto lose signal strength.
Also graphics chips run hotter driving external display, and since the graphics chip in Air is part of the CPU the CPU may throttle itself as the integrated graphics chip heats up.
    Two modes of operation:
Mirror ... same image both displays
Extended ... the other screen is "extra screen space"

    Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), see if you can set a good resolution.

  • VGA/DVI cable - wanting to use two monitors.

I got a VGA/DVI cable to connect the VGA port on my LCD TV to the DVI port on my desktop computer. I'm trying to use 2 monitors on my computer which has both a VGA and DVI port. My regular monitor was already on, and the computer detected the TV as a monitor but the TV wouldn't detect a signal. I had the TV on the VGA/PC setting. The cable was a return item so it might be defective. I was wondering if there's anything else I could try to get it to work?

My computer's DVI port doesn't allow for the contacts above and below the flat blade like the DVI-I and DVI-A connectors in the picture. The cable that I got does have those contacts.
Ooooooh.  So your computer may be one of the rare animals that doesn't have a DVI-I output, only DVI-D.
Since your TV has HDMI inputs, this is the way to go.  Get a DVI-to-HDMI cable.  It will provide higher quality than VGA and is USUALLY easier to use, I've never had video timing/resolution support issues with HDMI.  (However, every computer I own has an Nvidia graphics card - the story may be different for ATI or Intel graphics!)

P.S. Example. I run Ableton Live and have 6200 RPM working on external monitor (awfully loud!). CPU 90% idle. When I switch off external monitor and use internal one, RPM drops down to 4500 with the same Ableton work session. By the way, I don't need cool graphic card. Apple, let our work days be quiet.

I did that and it didn't help. It's common problem with an external monitor. Here are some links:
