USING TWO AIRPORT EXTREMES (802.11N) INTERNET IS VERY SLOW

I live in a 5000sq ranch in arizona and have our internet set up in one end of the house. We have an airport extreme 802.11n and it wasnt putting out a good signal to the other end of the house so we got another airport extreme and airport express to expand out network. By the way both are 802.11n and the internet is still not even usable because it is so slow. The only computer that has some sort of speed is the mac tower that is hardwired to the airport. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could ethernet the two Extreme N routers(try to place the second further into the house) and set the second in bridge mode and set to create its own wireless networrk. Use the manual configuration. The third can join the second, signal should reach and be strong. This must be in bridge mode also.
there are many different ways to set the configuration for wireless but the bridge mode is a must do.

I am assuming that you are referring to the AirPort's wireless security password and not its base station Administrator's password ... correct?

The answer depends on what you need the TC to accomplish. If all you need it to do is perform Time Machine backups, simply have it join your existing network in client mode. It would be if it were to connect to your existing router (presumably your Extreme), not through an "extended" wireless network (presumably your Express).
If you need the TC to "extend" your network so as to serve additional wireless clients, you can do that also. Configure it to "extend" the network created by your Extreme.
As you can see it's quite versatile.

Airport Extreme 802.11n with Nortel VPN client

Hello,
Has anyone had any experience using the Airport Extreme 802.11n) with a PC (sorry, I have both a PC and a Mac)running the Nortel VPN client?
The new router works perfectly with the Mac but I also need to use the VPN on the PC for certain functions in my work. On my previous router (Dlink DIR625), I had to set a dedicated virtual tunnel to port 9550 to solve this issue. I think this might still be true for the Airport Extreme but I don't see how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac 4 use with Touch?

I have a 2nd Gen Touch with the latest updated software. I use Airport to connect to the internet on my new iMac 24". Will the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler software now offered in the Apple store($1.99) for Mac improve communications between the Touch and my iMac?

Nope. Your touch is still limited to b/g mode wireless. In fact, if you have an all n network, your touch won't even know that it exists.
Most of your Mac to iPod communication is via the USB cable unless you are using Remote or other applications that can move files on and off.
BTW, that software is to enable early intel Macs to use N wireless. If your Mac is relatively new, you won't need it.

Unable to connect to an airport extreme 802.11n wifi using airport utility

I have an Airport Extreme 802.11N Wi-Fi, i connect it to my cable router and i can access the internet using the default setting on the WIFI.
However the status light is blinking yellow.
I try to use the Airport utility to connect to the Airport Extreme however i am unable to connect.
The error message as follows" An error occur while trying to access the apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again"
I know that i am connect to the Airport Extreme Wi-Fi, i can browse the internet but i need to access the device to change the security and SSID name etc.
Can anyone help.

AirPort Extreme (802.11n) - Which draft version of 802.11n does it use?

When the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n was announced, Apple didn't specifically state which version of the 802.11n draft it was using.
At the time of the announcement, version 2 of the 802.11n draft had not been submitted yet for approval.
So my question is what version of the Draft-N spec is it using?
1.0?
2.0?

As I understand it, the big change was going from a single 40 MHz channel to dual 20 MHz channels because some b/g base stations would get confused by 40 MHz channels, causing problems on their networks.

How do I know if my airport Extreme 802.11n needs updated firmware based on heart bleed issue using Mavericks?

I have Mavericks on oour laptops. I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n WI-FI not sure when I bought it. THe article by Tim Cook and Heartbleed issue is very technical and only mentions Leopard operating system. So do not know if I need to upgrade firmware or not. Not sure I undertand "Back to my Mac" or what to do? Also have an airport express.

Not able to see disk connected to AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I just installed my AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Base station. Wireless internet works like a charm, however, I cannot see my external hard disk when it is connected to the base station (amber light blinking and when checking the problem, I am told that "Disk needs repair"). When connecting the hard disk directly to the PC, I have no problem seeing the data. Any tips or tricks out there... ?
AirPort Extreme 802.11n Windows XP

I finally got my 500 GB Western Digital MyBook USB drive to work by reformatting it to HFS+ format.
Of course, before I could do that, I had to copy all my files onto another hard drive. That job took a day to accomplish.
I work with Poser, and have a lot of content installed... We're talking thousands of files.
Once the drive was reformatted to HFS+ format, I copied everything back over. That took another day. Then I connected to the AEBS.
The USB drive was immediately recognized. It was incredibly easy to access the USB drive on my PCs. It required no effort on my part, except to supply the password.
In the end, I've decided this effort is a failure.
The drive is way too slow for my needs. Also, one of my vital Poser utilities (CorrectReference Pro) will not work properly with the USB drive on the AEBS.
I am currently in the process of copying all those files over to two external USB hard drives attached to my other PC.
Then I plan to unmount my 500 GB MyBook drive, and reformat it back to NTFS. I'll let the Notebook PC have it on a direct connection again.
I have a couple "junk" External Hard drives that are 160 GB. Maybe I'll use one of those as an Airport disk...
But I won't be using the Airport disk for anything important. It's too slow.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n as a wireless router and local network switch?

I'm curious if its possible to have the APE in wireless network mode and connect systems via hard line as well?
I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11n set to "Create a Wireless Network" mode that is attached directly to a cable modem for internet connectevity. My issue is that while all wireless devices (several iPods, two iPhones and three laptop computers) connect to the APE without issue (and have internet access), when I try to plug in a Windows 7 desktop computer via one of the ethernet jacks, Windows is unable to connect and shows the network as "unidentified," spitting back a private IP address as opposed to a local LAN (this behavior repeats for an Ubuntu Linux box as well).
Not sure if the APE is misconfigured, this is a Windows 7 issue or if its improper use on my part (though this also precludes me from connecting a gigabit switch to the APE).

Properly configured, the AirPort should provide both wired and wireless network client with Internet access.
At this point, I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi not working

I just purchased Apples Airport Extreme 802.11n with the idea of getting just a bit more range than my old airport. This is/was hard to tell since I could not get the unit to function properly.
My internet service requires two address but this A/P Extreme only allowed one. This A/P Extreme 802.11n totally shut down my internet service. It did not allow wireless connection with other computers. The range seemed to be less than my older Airport Extreme 802.11 a/b/g.
I had to re-install my Airport Extreme a/b/g to get things working again.
I went to Apples Products and Service page to find out about the Express registration. Apples registration system did not recognize my serial number. Apparently their specification page recognized some parts of the serial number since the web page did display specification for the Airport Extreme.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REASON FOR ALL OF THIS TO HAPPEN?

You said you went to the "Express" page and tried to register above. It may be because you tried to register an Extreme as an Express. I had some difficulty over two months ago registering my Extreme. It let me register it without all the data because it would not recognize the serial number. Called Apple Care and they made sure it was registered.
Also, unless you have an all 802.11n system, you may get a little more range out of the Extreme, but I don't think any more than if you would have used an Airport Express 802.11g. Range and speed are geared toward all n systems.

New Airport Extreme (802.11n): : Port Mapping... ***???

There are two different programs I was formerly using, whereby (after following instructions) I was able to create a static IP address for every machine on my network, plus open ports 8000 and 9990-9998 respectively. But ever since upgrading to the new Airport Extreme (802.11n), it completely stopped working. To boot, I've upgraded to Leopard on one of two of the machines (the other is still using 10.3.9).
I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me, how to configure it. It's no longer as obvious where and what information to put in. All guides that would remotely help are designed for the older Airport unit, which has completely different menus in the Airport Utility.
Is there anyone out there who has experience with Dot-Tunes and/or Nicecast or similar port mapping, who has the patience to describe, in layman's terms, what steps to take to get this set up correctly again, starting with how to reassign static IPs for my machines. I will not ask a lot of questions and take up too much more of your time. I'm just frustrated after a whole day of trying to figure this out and fruitless Google and forum searches.

I'm not familiar with either Dot-Tunes or Nicecast, but the following would be the general port mapping procedure with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) using the AirPort Utility. Note in this procedure you will not need to assign a static IP address for each of your host devices. Instead you will be taking advantage of the AEBSn's DHCP reservations feature.
To setup port mapping on an AEBSn, either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
o Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
o Click "Continue"

WMM for AirPort Extreme (802.11n) - UMA T-Mobile not working...

Is there any chance we'll see WMM (WiFi Multi-Media) in a firmware upgrade anytime soon? I noticed that according to the WiFi Alliance's website, when the AirPort Extreme was certified, it supported WMM!

As an early adopter, I just got a BlackBerry 8320 from T-Mobile, which does UMA, so you can use the phone over WiFi. Works awesome with wireless routers that do WMM, basically doesn't work with my AirPort Extreme... As you might imagine, this is quite frustrating, as I have particular desire to have two APs, for basically no reason!

anyway... here goes:
i am a die-hard apple user- heck, even a long-time stockholder- and recently
bought an airport extreme (802.11n) router for my house. it worked
flawlessly and i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread... well,
until i picked up a UMA phone from T-Mobile.
UMA is a service that routes your calls over WiFi. for some reason the UMA
service worked everywhere except over my Airport Extreme base station. as a
surprise, it even worked over my neighbour's older Airport Extreme (802.11g)
connection.
i swapped base stations (ie, brought his base station to my house, connected
it to my network) and it worked. so, it is an issue that is clearly
isolated to the new 802.11n base stations.
thinking it was only me with this issue, i dug around the internet and found
this discussion:

obviously there's no resolution and people are getting quite peeved that a
state-of-the-art base station can't do something than an older base station
